Margaret Folkedahl
Margaret Folkedahl, 79, SERVICES: Funeral services will be 1 p.m. on Saturday at the Range Funeral Home in Virginia. The Rev. Lance E. Isaacson will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services. Burial will be in the Forbes Cemetery.

Margaret Folkedahl, 79, of Cook died Friday, Sept. 29, 2000, at the Cook Community Hospital.

She was born on May 25, 1921, to Otto and Vera (O’Dell) Johannesohn in Hibbing. She grew up in Grygla, Minn. She attended nursing school and received her associate’s degree to become a registered nurse. On Jan. 24, 1938, she was united in marriage to Nels Hover Folkedahl in Goodridge, Minn. She worked for the Virginia Regional Medical Center for 20 years, until her retirement.

Survivors include four daughters, Karen (Jerry) Mayry of Cherry, Sandra (Bob) Slotness of Duluth, Donna (Frank) Parzyck of Angora and Dale (Dennis) Hurst of Duluth; four sons, David (Deb) Folkedahl of Naperville, Ill., Richard Folkedahl of Myrtle Creek, Ore., Vern (Laurie) Folkedahl of Grundy Center, Iowa, and Neil (Shelly) Folkedahl of West Fargo, N.D.; 16 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; one sister, Kate Jelle, of Springfield, Mo.; one brother, Arthur (Barbara) Johannesohn, of Babbitt; two special friends, Otto Goerdt of Iron and Darlene Fugate of Roseburg, Ore.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Nels; two grandsons, Warren and Stephen Mayry; one brother, Harry Johannesohn; and her parents.

PATRICIA LUCILLE COOPER
On June 23, 1955 she married Albert Cooper in Grand Haven, Mich. She lived most of her life in Grand Haven and Sparta, Mich. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Albert; sister, Claudia Cooper; brother, Gordon "Tony" Anderson; and step-father, Joseph Parent.
Patricia Lucille Cooper, died at her home Friday, May 29, 2009 in Sparta, Mich.

She was born in Two Harbors to Albin and Elsie (Lusk) Anderson on Feb. 22, 1930.

On June 23, 1955 she married Albert Cooper in Grand Haven, Mich. She lived most of her life in Grand Haven and Sparta, Mich.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Albert; sister, Claudia Cooper; brother, Gordon "Tony" Anderson; and step-father, Joseph Parent.

She is survived by her children, Kelly (Arthur Rath) Cooper, Sparta, Mich., Craig (Lisa) Cooper of Panama City, Fla.; grandchildren, Brandon and Mason Cooper of Florida and Stuart Rath of Michigan; and brother, Tom (Virginia) Anderson of Bella Vista, Ark. She is also survived by Aunt Dorothy Peterson, Knife River; Uncle Bruce Lusk, Two Harbors; and sister-in-law Marilyn (Tony) Anderson.

MEMORIAL SERVICE is scheduled for Oct. in Two Harbors.

SHARON JEAN NOPOLA
She was born August 20, 1943 to Solvay and Howard Koski and parented by Solvay and Kermit Mattson. She grew up in Silver Bay where she graduated from William Kelly High school. Following graduation, Sharon married and started a family. After returning to Silver Bay, she started a hobby farm and later worked at the Sunrise Nursing Home.
Sharon Jean Nopola, 65, Silver Bay, died Sunday July 19, 2009 at her home, surrounded by her family, after a courageous fight with cancer.

She was born August 20, 1943 to Solvay and Howard Koski and parented by Solvay and Kermit Mattson. She grew up in Silver Bay where she graduated from William Kelly High school. Following graduation, Sharon married and started a family. After returning to Silver Bay, she started a hobby farm and later worked at the Sunrise Nursing Home. She owned and operated her own antique store and worked at her sister’s flea market. Sharon loved horses, antiques, flowers and gardening, but most of all her family. She was known for her love and knowledge of animals. She was tenacious, stubborn, out- spoken, a hard worker, known for her words of wisdom and courage. She was above all else the backbone of the family. She was a member of Sychar Lutheran Church.

Sharon was preceded in death by her parents, Kermit and Solvay Mattson and Howard Koski, son Kris Hanson, sister Kathy Collins and husband Bob Kofstad.

She is survived by her husband, Howard, children Tonya Hanson (Greg), Ron Kofstad (Kim) and Steven (Amy) Nopola, sisters Sonja Appling, Kirstin (Pat) Murray, Margy (Tom) Porter, brothers Edward (Jenny) Mattson and Martin (Diane) Mattson, 15 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Visitation: one hour before the 3PM memorial service, Wednesday, July 22, 2009 at Sychar Lutheran Church in Silver Bay. Burial will be in Sawtooth Mountain Cemetery at a later date. Arrangements by Cavallin Funeral Home.

BILL VANHOUSE
He was born February 17, 1930 to Halmond and Lucille (Giaque) in Bemidji, where he grew up and graduated from high school. Bill married Shirley Hannah on February 1, 1951 in Bemidji, and they moved to Silver Bay in 1953. Bill worked construction for Hunkin, Arundel, and Dixon, and was superintendent for Bay Construction.
Bill VanHouse 79, of Silver Bay, died Wednesday July 22, 2009 at his home.

He later worked for VanHouse Construction until retiring in 2007. Bill was a member and a past Master of the Taconite Masonic Lodge in Silver Bay, member of the AAD Temple of the Shrine, and past Patron of the Eastern Star. He also worked with Job’s Daughters for 12 years. Bill was an avid gun trader, and enjoyed spending time at his hunting shack. Most of all, he enjoyed his multiple daily visits with his grandsons. Bill was loved very much and will be missed dearly.

He is preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Dale Benjamin “Buck”.

He is survived by his son, Steve (Michelle) VanHouse of Silver Bay, daughter, Trudy VanHouse of Blaine; grandsons, Derek (Jennifer), and Deven, both of Silver Bay; brother, Dan (Nancy) of Brainerd; sisters, Lynn VanHouse and LaVonne Traylor; former wife and close friend, Shirley VanHouse; and many nieces and nephews.

Upon Bill’s request, a private memorial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements by Cavallin Funeral Home.

DANNY STEPHEN BUCKWALTER
He was born August 11, 1953 to Daniel and Christine (Powell) Buckwalter in Rock Island, Illinois. Danny grew up in New Boston, and Milan, Illinois and graduated from Sherrard High School in 1972. In 1976, he married Patti Goette in Milan, Illinois and they were married for 28 years. Danny worked for John Deere in East Moline for a number of years.
Danny S. Buckwalter 56, of Two Harbors, Minnesota, died Thursday, October 15, 2009 at his home.

He was born August 11, 1953 to Daniel and Christine (Powell) Buckwalter in Rock Island, Illinois. Danny grew up in New Boston, and Milan, Illinois and graduated from Sherrard High School in 1972. In 1976, he married Patti Goette in Milan, Illinois and they were married for 28 years. Danny worked for John Deere in East Moline for a number of years. He moved to Finland, Minnesota in 1978, and later lived in Silver Bay while working for Reserve Mining. Danny then worked for North Star Steel in the Twin Cities, while living in Ellsworth, Wisconsin. He moved to Two Harbors in 1987, and worked construction for Local Laborer’s Union #1019. Danny was a member of the American Motorcycle Association, and raced motocross. He was an Iowa State Motocross Champion for two years running. Danny enjoyed hunting, fishing, smoking fish, camping, and spending time with his family.

He is preceded in death by his father, Daniel.

Danny is survived by his daughters, Hilary of Duluth, and Rhiannon of Two Harbors; son, Beau of Two Harbors; mother Christine of Milan, Illinois; brothers, Gary (Patty), Greg, and Larry, all of Rock Island, Illinois; sister, Jill Miller of Tuscon, Arizona; ex-wife, Patti Goette of Two Harbors; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Memorial Visitation will be held from 1-4 PM on Wednesday, October 21, 2009 at Cavallin Funeral Home, in Two Harbors, Minnesota. A Memorial Service is pending for Saturday, October 24, at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home in Milan, Illinois. In lieu of flowers memorials preferred to donor’s choice.

Bob Payment
Bob Payment, 83, Two Harbors, died Monday, Feb. 1, at St Luke’s Hospital. He was born Jan. 24, 1927, to George and Mae (Jones) Payment in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich., where he grew up and attended school.

He worked on the ferry between Sault Ste. Marie and Sugar Island. He served in the U.S. Army occupation forces in Germany.

Bob married JoAnn on Jan. 10, 1959. He was employed by U.S. Steel Great Lakes Fleet for 30 years. He was the best neighbor anyone could have as he helped others in countless ways. Bob enjoyed working hard and was a member of the American Legion.

He is preceded in death by his parents; sister Virginia Pittman and brothers William and Ronald. Bob is survived by his loving wife JoAnn; sons Dwayne (Pat) Payment of New York, George Jansen of Crystal, and Conrad Jansen of Austin, Texas; daughter Joette (Roy) Hanson of Two Harbors; grandchildren Danielle (Tom) Vold of Raleigh, N.C., Christine (Randy) LeMay, Lennon Hanson, Nathan Hanson, all of Two Harbors; great-grandchildren Kara and Logan Vold and Lane LeMay; and many nieces and nephews.

There was a visitation Thursday evening and a service at 2 p.m. today at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Two Harbors. Burial will be at Lakeview Cemetery. Memorials preferred to St. Luke’s Hospice.

Orel A. Dahle
Orel A. Dahle, Babbitt, SERVICES: A memorial service celebrating his life will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday at the Grace Lutheran Church in Sebeka, Minn. Arrangements are with the Beilema Funeral Home in Wadena, Minn.

Orel A. Dahle, a longtime educator in Sebeka, Minn., and resident of Babbitt, was called home by our Lord on Sunday, Sept. 24, 2000, at the Guardian Care Center in Auburn, Calif.

He was a loving husband and a devoted father. He was so very proud of his children. He, as a husband, father, grandfather and friend, was greatly loved and is greatly missed.

Survivors include his wife, Mary; sons, Eric of Babbitt, Timothy of The Dalles, Ore., Thorvald of Moorhead, Minn., and Ted of Brentwood, Calif.; daughters, Leanore Wiemer of Bowie, Md., Rebecca Glauvitz of Hustiford, Wis., and Susan Fuller of Auburn, Calif.; 17 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Emil A. Kuha
Emil A. Kuha, 83, SERVICES: Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday in the Dougherty Funeral Home of Hibbing. The Rev. Erik Holleque will officiate. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. today in the Dougherty Funeral Home, and for one hour prior to the service on Wednesday. Pallbearers will be his grandchildren, Kent Biondich, Kelly Biondich, Chad Kuha, Jeffrey Kuha, Jason Kuha, Shawn Kuha and Jaymi Kovakovich. Burial will be at 1 p.m. Thursday in the Meadow Township Cemetery near Menahga, Minn.

Emil A. Kuha, 83, of Hibbing died Monday, Oct. 2, 2000, in a Duluth nursing home.

He was born in Menahga, Minn., on Dec. 28, 1916, to Charles and Katie (Ranua) Kuha. He married Lorraine Peterson on April 21, 1945, and they moved to Hibbing in 1951. He had worked as a truck driver for 30 years at National Steel Pellet Company, retiring in 1981. He was a member of the United Steelworkers of America, Local 2660, and was a lifelong member of the Meadow Apostolic Lutheran Church. He was the last surviving member of his family.

Survivors include his wife, Lorraine, of Hibbing; a daughter, Alice (Gary) Maki, of Hibbing; two sons, Gaylen (Susan) Kuha of Side Lake and Randy (Cindy) Kuha of Hibbing; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law and one brother-in-law.

He was preceded in death by his parents; eight brothers; two sisters; a son, Glenn Kuha, in 1949; and a granddaughter, Shayna Kovakovich, in 1989.

Evelyn M. Niemi
Evelyn M. Niemi, 74, SERVICES: Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the 10 a.m. funeral services Wednesday in Bauman’s Vermilion Funeral Home in Tower. The Rev. LeRoy Holmes and the Rev. Brenda Pfeifly will co-officiate. Burial will be in the Vermilion Lake Cemetery. Family services are provided by Bauman-Vermilion, a Bauman Family Funeral Home in Tower.

Evelyn M. Niemi, 74, of Soudan, died Monday, Oct. 2, 2000, in the Virginia Regional Medical Center.

She was born on Oct. 21, 1925, in Soudan, the daughter of Arnold and Elvira (Holoppa) Pulkinen. She married Henry W. Niemi on March 10, 1945, and was a lifelong resident of Soudan. She was a homemaker and centered her life around her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed bowling and fishing.

Survivors include three daughters, Kathy (Jerry) Yernatich of Tower, Elaine (Orv Nystrom) Niemi of Virginia and Karen (Bill) Majerle of Duluth; three sons, Bob (Sandi) Niemi of Ishpeming, Mich., Bill (Cheryl) Niemi of Eveleth and Ted (Sharon) Niemi of Embarrass; grandchildren, Rob and T.J. Yernatich, Travis and Amber Palkovich, Matt and Megan Majerle, Mike (Lisa) Michaud, Lara (Mike) Clisch, Bobby and Ryan Niemi, Corey Niemi and Kristina (Shawn) Johnson; great-grandchildren, Carly Michaud, Amy, Keri and Toni Clisch and Zachary and Noah Johnson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Henry, in 1998; her brother, Ted, in 1999; and a grandson, Bradley Yernatich.

Charles W. Furry
Charles W. Furry, 84, SERVICES: Funeral Mass will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Hoyt Lakes. The Rev. Joseph Sirba will be the celebrant. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. today at Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Aurora, with parish prayers starting at 6 p.m., and will continue for one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial, with full military honors accorded by the Hoyt Lakes Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8144, will be in the Hoyt Lakes Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Miller Dwan Dialysis Unit in Eveleth.

Charles W. Furry, 84, of Hoyt Lakes, died peacefully on Sunday, Oct. 1, 2000, at his residence.

He was born on Feb. 22, 1916, in Northfield, Minn., to Charles and Ruth (Anderson) Furry. He attended high school in Minneapolis. After high school, he worked for the Civilian Conservation Corps camps along the North Shore. He served our country in World War II with the Army in the Pacific Theater. He was married to Lorraine Culley on June 22, 1946, in Minneapolis. They moved to Hoyt Lakes in 1957, where he began working for Erie Mining. He retired from Erie in 1978. He enjoyed woodworking and playing cards.

Survivors include his wife, Lorraine; sons, Randy of Minneapolis, Bill (Barb) of Lino Lakes, Daniel (Heidi) of Aurora and Doug (Karin) of Ham Lake, Minn.; daughters, Christine (Jim) Demarais of Red Lake Falls, Minn., and Ellen (Todd) Gordenier of Maple Grove, Minn.; brothers, Richard and Donald; sisters, Lillian, June and Marlene; 16 grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.

Anthony “Tony” Joseph Popesh
Anthony “Tony” Joseph Popesh, 79, SERVICES: Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Friday in St. Anthony’s Catholic Church. Monsignor Bernard Popesh will be celebrant. Burial will follow in the Ely Cemetery. Arrangements are by Kerntz Funeral Home in Ely.

Anthony “Tony” Joseph Popesh, 79, a lifelong resident of Ely, died Monday, Oct. 2, 2000, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born July 31, 1921, in Ely, to Michael and Margaret (Sever) Popesh. He attended the Ely schools and Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis. He worked at the Zenith Mine in Ely and Reserve Mining Co., in Babbitt. He was a decorated veteran of World War II, serving overseas with the 82nd Airborne, European Theater. He was a lifelong member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Ely. “Grandpa Tony” will be missed so very much by his family and friends, yet the good times will so fondly be remembered; of his love for spending time with his family and the many wonderful years at his shack on White Iron Lake.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Dorothy; sons, Anthony Jr. of Eveleth, Michael (Penny) of Ely; daughters, Patricia (Larry) Wellvang of Ely, Dorothy “DeDe” Ruhnke off Esko; 10 grandchildren, Michael, Mark, Ron, Jill, Shana, Angel, Caria, Kevin, Stefanie, Michael IV; and two very special great-grandchildren, Ashley and Jonathon; sisters, Margaret Ryan, Sophie (Victor) Paicher; brother, Monsignor Bernard Popesh; all of Ely; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, the Rev. Michael, Frank, John, and Joseph Popesh; sisters, Jennie Kolvisto, Mary Mesojedec, infant Angela Popesh.

Dr. Edward O. Jorgensen
Dr. Edward O. Jorgensen, 72, SERVICES: A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Monday at First Baptist Church in Rochester, Minn. The Rev. C. John Steer will officiate. Private burial will precede the service. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Ranfranz Funeral Home in Rochester. Memorials are suggested to First Baptist Church Missions Fund or the Virginia Salvation Army.

Dr. Edward O. Jorgensen, 72, of Rochester, a retired Mayo Clinic senior consultant in obstetrics and gynecology, died Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2000, while visiting Grand Marais, Minn.

He was born May 4, 1928, in Chicago. He graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1950 with a bachelor or arts degree and received his medical degree from the University of Minnesota in 1954. He interned at St. Luke’s Hospital in Duluth from 1954 to 1955, and then served as a flight surgeon in the Air Force. After his discharge in 1957, he was in general practice with Dr. James Trautmann in Duluth until 1963. From 1963 to 1967, he was in residency training in obstetrics and gynecology at the Mayo Graduate School of Medicine, and then practiced in Fergus Falls until 1969, when he returned to the Mayo Clinic in the department of obstetrics and gynecology. He retired as senior consultant in the department in 1993. On Aug. 9, 1952, he married Genevieve Swanson in St. Paul. Following his retirement, they lived in Sand Lake in Britt from 1993 until this year, when they moved back to Rochester. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Rochester.

He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Jane (Walter) Cook of Rochester; three sons, Paul (Sharon) and Steven (Martha), both of Rochester, and David (Marla) of Little Falls, Minn.; 16 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister.
