Alma M. Erickson, 83, SERVICES: Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Virginia. The Rev. Cheryl Berg will officiate. Visitation will be Sunday from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. at the Range Funeral Home in Virginia and will resume one hour prior to services at the church Monday. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Virginia.

Alma M. Erickson, 83, of Virginia, died Friday, June 1, 2001, at the Benedictine Health Center in Duluth.

She was born Dec. 3, 1917, in Virginia, to John and Mary (Menoneu) Lonne. She grew up and attended school in Virginia, graduating from Roosevelt High School, class of 1936. On March 15, 1941, she was united in marriage to Carl Oscar Erickson in Virginia. Following marriage the couple made their home in Virginia.

She is survived by three daughters, Geraldine Gradisher of Eveleth, Carol (Mike) Jordahl of Hermantown, Minn. and Jean Ritala of Savage, Minn.; four sons, Carl L. (Linda) Erickson of Rockford, Ill, John “Jack” (Sheryl) Erickson of Scottsdale, Ariz., Kenneth (Betty) Erickson of Virginia, and Glen Erickson of Duluth; 14 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Anne Mandel of Santa Clara, Calif.; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl O. in 1979; two sons, Rodney and William Erickson; two brothers, Aro and John Lonne; and her parents.

Henry W. Bradlich
Henry W. Bradlich, SERVICES: A memorial graveside service will be 10 a.m. Friday at the Eveleth Cemetery. An informal gathering of relatives and friends will be held at the Eveleth Inn following the service.

Henry W. Bradlich of Virginia died March 3, 2001.

Elmer A. Palokangas
Elmer A. Palokangas, 88, SERVICES: Funeral 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Cardini-Behrens Funeral Home in Menahga, Minn., with the Rev. Clyde Allebach officiating. Active casketberears will be Elmer’s family and friends. Burial will be in Menahga City Cemetery.

Elmer A. Palokangas, 88, of Virginia and formerly of the Menahga area, died Saturday, June 2, 2001, at the Virginia Convalescent Center.

He was born on April 15, 1913, in South Range, Mich., to Jacob and Mary (Hannus) Palokangas. He was raised and completed school in South Range. He married Hilma (Betty) Wuollet on Sept. 16, 1939, in Menahga. He worked at Murphy Saw Mill for many years, moving to Gilbert in 1992. He was a member of the Independent Apostolic Lutheran Church.

He is survived by a daughter, Karen (James) Anderson, of Eveleth; a son, Russell Palokangas, of Charlestown, W.Va.; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Betty, in 1998; two sisters; four brothers; and a daughter, Mavis.

Evelyn A. Haecker
Evelyn A. Haecker, 75, SERVICES: At her request, there will be no services. Arrangements are by the Mlaker Funeral Home in Cook.

Evelyn A. Haecker, 75, of Cook, died Saturday, June 2, 2001, at the Cook Hospital.

She is survived by one son, Kort (Bonnie) Haecker of Arlington Heights, Ill.; two daughters, Diane (Jack) Ervin of Cook and Kathryn (Mike) Tupy of Greaney, Minn.; along with nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Adolph on Jan. 19, 1991.

David William Tittman
David William Tittman, SERVICES: Private services will be held in Springfield, Ill.

David William Tittman, of Gold Canyon, Ariz., formerly of Hoyt Lakes and Lake Vermilion, died Wednesday, May 30, 2001, in Mesa, Ariz. Mr. Tittman, a metallurgical engineer was born in Springfield, Ill. He was a World War II United States Marine Corp. veteran and a member of the Masonic Lodge of Biwabik.

He is survived by his wife, Betty; sons, Dane (Nancy) and James (Liz); daughters, Catherine (John) Vomastek and Cynthia (Bruce) Carlson; and 10 grandchildren.

Pamela L. Hennes
Pamela L. Hennes, 42, SERVICES: The family is planning a memorial service to be held at a later date. Family services are provided by Anderson-Daniels, a Bauman Family of Funeral Home in Hibbing. To leave a personal remembrance online see www.baumanfuneral.com.

Pamela L. Hennes, 42, of Virginia, formerly of Hibbing and St. Paul, died Friday, June 1, 2001, in the Virginia Regional Medical Center.

She was born April 20, 1959, in Dodge Center, Minn., the daughter of Harry and Mary (McKenzie) Johnson. She attended school in St. Paul, and was later married to Joseph Hennes.

She is survived by her daughters, Lisa Johnson and Marykate Hennes, both of Hibbing; her father, Harry Johnson, of Bovey; three brothers, “Gar” Johnson of Rochester, Greg Johnson of Bovey and Bob Johnson of Bloomington, Minn.; several nieces and nephews; and special friends, Nancy, Charlene and Joy.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Johnson; and her husband, Joseph Hennes, in 1999.

Robert P. Denny
Robert P. Denny, 58, SERVICES: Funeral 1 p.m. Thursday in the Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Gilbert. Visitation one hour prior to service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Biwabik Township Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded by the Aurora American Legion Post 241.

Robert P. Denny, 58, of Virginia died Saturday, June 2, 2001, at his residence.

He was born March 1, 1943, in Wadena, Minn., to Philip and Florence (Conn) Denny. He was a graduate of Gilbert High School and later enlisted in the Navy in 1964. He served the country as a communications technician for 23 years for the U.S. Naval Security Group and on the USS Josephus Daniels.

He is survived by his sister, Phyllis (Philip) Sherek, of Biwabik Township; brothers, Raymond (Carole) Denny of Babbitt, Gary (Mary) Denny of Lompoc, Calif., and Eugene (Judy) Denny of Biwabik; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and by an infant sister, Dawn.

Shirley Mae LaZella
Shirley Mae LaZella, 56, SERVICES: Memorial Mass 10 a.m. Friday at Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Hoyt Lakes, with the Rev. Joseph Sirba as celebrant. Visitation 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Aurora, with parish prayers at 7:30 p.m. Inurnment will be in Lakeside Cemetery in Biwabik. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.

Shirley Mae LaZella, 56, of Hoyt Lakes died Tuesday, June 5, 2001, in the White Community Hospital in Aurora.

She was born Nov. 7, 1944, in Biwabik to Frank L. and Frances (Sherek) Anzelc. She was a Biwabik High School graduate and later attended Virginia Junior College. She graduated from Bemidji State University with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education. Following her education she taught in the Hibbing and Virginia schools. She married Thomas LaZella on June 15, 1968, in Biwabik. They moved to Hoyt Lakes in 1968, where she taught elementary education in the Mesabi East Schools and was instrumental in establishing the Early Childhood Family Education program. She retired on Jan. 24, 2000. She was a member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church, its Council of Catholic Women and was chairperson of the building committee. She also was a member of the Women’s Golf League at the Eshquaguma Country Club.

She is survived by her husband, Thomas; daughter, Mandy (Matthew Erickson) LaZella, of St. Paul; a son, David (Jeanena) LaZella, of Bemidji; sisters, Patricia (Wayne) Hakala of Biwabik and Margaret Anzelc of New Prague, Minn.; grandson, Alex LaZella; mother-in-law, Mary LaZella, of Biwabik; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and four grandnephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her father-in-law, Albert T. LaZella.

Ione Katherine Morse
Ione Katherine Morse, 63, SERVICES: Mass of Christian Burial 2 p.m. Friday in the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Rosary in Duluth, with visitation an hour before service. Burial will be in Sunrise Memorial Park in Hermantown. Memorials may be made to St. Luke’s Hospice. Arrangements by Dougherty Funeral Home, 600 E. Second St., Duluth.

Ione Katherine Morse, 63, of Duluth died Monday, June 4, 2001, in St. Luke’s Hospital in Duluth after a dignified battle with cancer. She passed away peacefully with her husband, Wally, and her family by her side

She was born Nov. 12, 1937, in Virginia to Maurice and Iona (Kampa) Stickney. In the early 1940s the family moved to Duluth, where Ione attended Sacred Heart-Cathedral High School. After graduation she married Wallace Morse on June 30, 1956, in Duluth. In a few short weeks they would have celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary. She was a member of the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Rosary. She enjoyed collecting, spending time with her family and friends and creating a home where all who entered felt welcome and loved. She was our Angel and will be greatly missed by all who knew her and were touched by her love.

Survivors include her husband, Wally; sons, Jim, Rob (Toni), Brian (Tammy), Mark (Marcia) and Loren (Margo), all of Duluth, Tim (Angie) of Grand Marais and Eric of St. Peter; a daughter, Kathy (Pat) Duffy, of Bloomington; a brother, Bob (Sue) Stickney, of Duluth; a sister, Jackie (Sal) Loiacono, of Coon Rapids; 14 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Edward Stickney; and her sister, Maurine Lindgren.

Lorraine C. Perrault
Lorraine C. Perrault, 62, SERVICES: Memorial services 11 a.m. Friday at Resurrection Catholic Church in Eveleth, with the Rev. Eamonn Boland as celebrant. Visitation 5-8 p.m. Thursday, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, at the Cron-Sheehy Funeral Home in Eveleth, and will continue an hour before service Friday at the church. Inurnment will be in Eveleth Cemetery.

Lorraine C. Perrault, 62, of Eveleth died peacefully on Tuesday, June 5, 2001, at the Virginia Regional Medical Center after a long battle with cancer.

She was born June 15, 1938, in Eveleth to Paul and Virgil (Crouteau) Horoshak. She was married to Gerald A. Perrault on June 29, 1957, in Eveleth. She was a lifelong resident of Eveleth and was a member of Resurrection Catholic Church.

She is survived by her husband, Gerald; son, Keith (Suzanne) Perrault; daughters, Cindy (Jesse) Bardwell and Jodi (Franklin) Cooper, both of Eveleth; mother, Virgil Horoshak, of Eveleth; brothers, Paul Horoshak Jr. and Bill (Sue) Horoshak, both of Eveleth, and Joseph (Sandy) Horoshak of Orr; sisters, Marjorie Hall of Eveleth and Bev Carsten of Plymouth, Minn.; grandchildren, Tanya (Travis) Baker, Michael (Jyll) Stark, Jake and Jared Perrault, Amanda, Jacob and Bobbi Bardwell; great-grandchildren, Emily, Montana and Karly; and numerous nieces and nephews and family.

She was preceded in death by her father, Paul Horoshak Sr.; and brother, Louis Horoshak.

Richard L. “Dick” Chisholm
Richard L. “Dick” Chisholm, 71, SERVICES: Funeral 11 a.m. Friday at Dougherty Funeral Home of Hibbing, with the Rev. Clem Gustin officiating. Visitation 9:30-11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery, Hibbing. Pallbearers will be Louis Hrovat, Robert Gardner, Mike Laurich, Merlin Volker, Terry Trboyevich and Frank Furlan.

Richard L. “Dick” Chisholm, 71, of Kitzville died Monday, June 4, 2001, in the University Medical Center-Mesabi in Hibbing.

He was born March 31, 1930, in Hibbing to Lamar and Alma (Dennis) Chisholm. He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 226 of Chisholm, the Slovenian National Home of Chisholm, American All Slav Association of Minnesota and the American All Slav Club No. 1 of Eveleth-Gilbert. He had volunteered for the Arrowhead Economic Opportunity Agency Meals on Wheels program for many years.

He is survived by his wife, Pat, of Kitzville; two brothers-in-law, Robert (Ruth) Hrovat of Kitzville and Louis (Carol) Hrovat of Hibbing; two sisters-in-law, Marge (Robert) Gardner of Minneapolis and Kathleen (Marvin) Alapetri of Goodland; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents and by a brother, Stuart Chisholm.

Agnes M. Stampke
Agnes M. Stampke, 89, SERVICES: Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Saturday at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Virginia, with the Rev. John O’Donnell as celebrant. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to the time of service at the church. Burial in Calvary Cemetery in Virginia. Arrangements by Landmark Funeral Home in Virginia.

Agnes M. Stampke, 89, of Virginia died Wednesday, June 6, 2001, at the Arrowhead Health Care Center in Virginia.

She was born Oct. 2, 1911, in Virginia to John and Susanna (Kampa) Stampke. She worked as a telephone operator for Northwestern Bell for many years in Virginia. Agnes lived in Superior, Wis., before moving back to Virginia.

She is survived by one nephew, William (Rita) Trottier. of Bloomington, Minn.; three nieces, Rose Tilghman of Dover, N.C., Lucille (Robert) Werner of Nashville, Tenn., and Lucy Roth of Duluth; a special cousin, Elizabeth Jamieson, of Virginia; and many other cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents and six sisters, Rose Trottier, Mary Janesky, Lucy Kieffer, Joanna Stampke, Sophie Graber and Anne Stampke.

Molly J. Debeltz
Molly J. Debeltz, 86, SERVICES: Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Gilbert. The Rev. Frank Perkovich will be celebrant. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday with 6:30 p.m. parish prayers in Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Gilbert. Burial will be in the Gilbert Cemetery.

Molly J. Debeltz, 86, of Gilbert, died Friday, June 1, 2001, in the Virginia Convalescent Care Center. She was born June 20, 1914, in Gilbert, to Jacob and Julia (Proznik) Omersa. She attended Gilbert schools and later married Frank J. Debeltz on May 16, 1942, in Gilbert. She was a homemaker, a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and the American Fraternal Union.

She is survived by her son, Robert (Jeanne) Debeltz of Mountain Iron; sister, Frances Usnik of Mayfield Heights, Ohio; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Ronald; husband, Frank in 1996; sisters, Caroline, Julia, Mae and Sophie; brothers, Jack and Fred.
