Jean Ann Guimont
Jean Ann Guimont, 81, of Duluth passed away July 29, 2011, at her home.

She was born March 29, 1930, to Jack and Angeline Trenberth in Hibbing.

She is preceded in death by her parents and adoptive parents, Anna and Louis Perhai; husband, Donald Guimont; and brother, John Trenberth.

She is survived by children Jim (Mary Ann), Ron (Shari) and Bonnie Jean (Michael) Straight; grandchildren, Michael, Jason, Lisa, Nicola, and Elise; great-grandchildren, Kristen, Ruby, and Sebastian.

A memorial service will begin at 11 a.m. Aug. 20 at the Lennox community room in Duluth, 701 W. Superior St. Visitation is an hour prior.

Randy Hills
Randy Hills, 53, formerly of Two Harbors, passed away Tuesday, July 26, 2011, at Trinity Hospital in Rock Island, Ill.

He had lived in Davenport, Iowa, for many years and raised his family there.

He was preceded in death by this father, Ira Hills.

He is survived by his mother, Virginia Hills of Webster, Wis.; his children, Krista of Alborn, Seth of Monticello, Iowa, and Kimberly and Caitlyn of Davenport; grandchildren, Anthony, Desirae, Cole, Alex and Tristen; sister, Cynthia (Kent) Starkey of Two Harbors; brother, Ronald of Douglas, Ariz.; and nephew, Rob (Elisa) Svee of Isanti.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church Wednesday with interment in St. John’s Cemetery in Webster.

Walter ‘Bud’ Gunnarson
Walter ‘Bud’ Gunnarson, 83, SERVICES: Memorial Mass 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, 2003, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Moutain Iron, with the Rev. John Doyle as celebrant. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred. Services entrusted to the Cremation Society of Minnesota.

Walter “Bud’’ Gunnarson, 83, of Mountain Iron died Thursday, Oct. 2, 2003, at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Duluth in the arms of his loving family.

He was born Sept. 18, 1920, in Duluth to Leon and Elsie (Pietz) Gunnarson. Bud graduated from Denfeld High School in Duluth in 1938. He served in the U.S. Marines during World War II as a machinist. He married Mae Simney on May 20, 1944, in San Diego, Calif. Bud was the owner/operator of the W. Gunnarson Company, serving the home improvement industry of the Iron Range community. He was a member of the Yoki-Bergman American Legion Post 220 in Mountain Iron. He was an avid fisherman, loved hunting, woodworking and watching sports. His main love was his family and he was affectionately known to his grandchildren as “Papa Bud.’’ Bud had a great smile and a wonderful sense of humor that carried him to his final day.

Bud’s family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the staff of the Virginia, Miller Dwan and St. Mary’s medical centers. A special thanks to Dr. Michael Maddy and his entire nephrology department and the Dialysis Center in Eveleth for their kind and loving care.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Mae; sons, Gary (Sandy) of Redwood City, Calif., Bob (Sandy) of Duluth, Jim (Beth) of Hermantown, Jack (Jaci) of Winona and Dave (Judy) of Minneapolis; daughters, Sandi (Ron) Ulberg of Shoreview and Mary Beth (Chip) Edstrom of Elk River; 16 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and three stepgrandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Milt.

Norman E. Christopherson
Norman E. Christopherson, 83, SERVICES: The family will receive friends 5-7 p.m. Monday in Northland Funeral Home, 801 14th St. in Cloquet. Visitation will continue anhour to the 11 a.m. Tuesday celebration of Norman's life Tuesday in St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Esko. Norman E. Christopherson, 83, of Hermantown, formerly of Esko and Virginia, died Thursday, Oct. 2, 2003, in St. Mary's Medical Center in Duluth.

Faith Anne Sorokie
Faith Anne Sorokie, SERVICES: Graveside service was held Sept. 27, 2003, at Eastlawn Cemetery, Snyder Township. Arrangements were by Derman Funeral Home Inc. of Tyrone.

Faith Anne Sorokie, infant daughter of Jon W. Sorokie and Anna F. Steinbeiser of Tyrone, died at birth Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2003.

Surviving are her parents; a brother, Jon W. Sorokie II; a sister, Kaylee Sorokie; her paternal grandparents, Myron and Judith Haupt of Biwabik, and maternal grandparents, Kenneth and Linda Steinbeiser of Altoona; also aunts and uncles.

She was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, George Sorokie.

Robert D. 'Bob' Ethier
Robert D. 'Bob' Ethier, 74, SERVICES: Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Chisholm, with the Rev. Frank Perkovich celebrating. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, with a combined Knights of Columbus and parish prayer service at 7 p.m., at Rupp Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Chisholm. Visitation will continue from 9 a.m. until 9:45 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m. at Hoyt Lakes Memorial Cemetery.

Robert D. “Bob” Ethier, 74, of Chisholm, died Friday, Oct. 3, 2003, at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Duluth.

He was born Feb. 9, 1929, in Chisholm to Joseph and Blenda (Schultz) Ethier. He was a 1947 graduate of Chisholm High School and attended St. Thomas College, where he also played football. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War. Bob was united in marriage to Mary Ricci on Sept. 4, 1954. He was a general foreman with Erie Mining Co. in Hibbing and in 1958 transferred to Hoyt Lakes, where he resided until 2000, at which time he became a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Chisholm. He was untied in marriage to Jacqueline Lyngdal on Jan. 5, 2000. He was a member of Timothy Robinson VFW Post No. 8144 of Hoyt Lakes, Press-Lloyd American Legion Post No. 247 of Chisholm, and the Knights of Columbus in Hoyt Lakes, where he was a past Grand Knight. He enjoyed his cabin at Perch Lake, was an avid fisherman and hunter. He enjoyed spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife, Jacqueline “Jackie;” children, John (Linda) of Plymouth, Minn., David (Melinda) of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Lisa (Chris) Stankey of Lakeville, Minn.; grandchildren, Michael J., Sarah, Eric, Ben, Maggi, Matt, and Mike P.

He was preceded in death by his parents; by his first wife, Mary in 1999.

Jenny M. Mattila
Jenny M. Mattila, 85, SERVICES: Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Range Funeral Home in Hibbing. The Rev. Jean McGorden will officiate. Visitation will be from noon until 1 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Nashwauk Cemetery.

Jenny M. Mattila, 85, of Cloverdale, died Thursday, Oct. 2, 2003, at Evergreen Terrace in Grand Rapids.

She was born May 5, 1918, to Salomon and Sophia (Haapala) Koski in Stevenson Location. She grew up and attended school in Cloverdale. She was very good-hearted, loved to bake, have friends over for coffee, and to help at church. She loved her animals and had 40 cats, which were her life. She wrote a column for the Eastern Itasca News. She was a former member of the Nashwauk Lutheran Church, the Cloverdale Birthday Club, and the Pengilly-Swan Lake Golden Agers.

Surviving are a sister-in-law, Gladys Koski of Mountain Iron; two nieces, Wendy (Larry) Johnson of Irvine, Calif., Carolyn (Steve) Merrisette of Mountain Iron; three nephews, Randy (Carolyn) Koski of Summerset, Calif., Roger (Betty) Vaudrin of Lake Vermilion-Tower, and Jerry Vaudrin of Keewatin; nine grandnieces and grandnephews; a great-grandniece and a great-grandnephew; special friends, Jeanette and Ken Stish of Bovey.

She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Oliver Alto; second husband, Henry Mattila; brother, Arne Koski; a brother in Finland; a nephew, Lt. Richard Koski.

Harvey LeRoy 'Sonny' Terrio
Harvey LeRoy 'Sonny' Terrio, 85, SERVICES: Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Messiah Lutheran Church in Mountain Iron. The Rev. Kristin M. Foster will officiate. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Range Funeral Home, and continue from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the church. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Virginia.

Harvey LeRoy “Sonny” Terrio, 85, formerly of Mountain Iron, died Thursday, Oct. 2, 2003, at the Edgewood Vista in Virginia.

He was born June 15, 1918, to Harvey and Lena (Anderson) Terrio in Mountain Iron. He grew up and attended school in Mountain Iron, graduating from Mountain Iron High School. On Sept. 30, 1938, he married Vivian “Toots” Stauty in Virginia. They made their home in Mountain Iron. Harvey was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy. He had worked in the Civilian Conservation Corps camps, and following World War II, he worked for Anderson Chevrolet in Mountain Iron as a mechanic, service manager, and parts manager. He was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church and the Mountain Iron Volunteer Fire Department.

Survivors include four children, Gary (Jean) Terrio of Blue Earth, Minn., Jack (Joan) Terrio of Minneapolis, Diane Foucault of Fort Worth, Texas, Mark (Karen) Terrio of Eveleth; 10 grandchildren, Paul (Tracey) Terrio, Dan (Bonnie) Terrio, Cari (Kyle) Terrio-Johnson, Lynn (Steven) Lutz, Susan Terrio, Christine Foucault (fiancé James Kern Jr.), Michelle (Levi) Schmidt, Beth, Erin and Amy Terrio; six great-grandchildren; brother, John (Vi) Terrio of Sand Lake; sister, Hazel Hendrickson of Virginia; sister-in-law, Lola Heikkila; numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Vivian; parents; brother, William; sister, Alice; and son-in-law, Jon Foucault.

Robert B. Mattson
Robert B. Mattson, 70, Robert B. Mattson, 70, of Durango, Colo., formerly of Aurora, died Monday, Sept. 29, 2003.

Survivors are his wife, Nancy; daughter, Ann Mattson; son, Peter (Julianne); grandson, Aidan; sister, Kathleen (Donald) Langie of Aurora; two nephews, aunts, uncles and many cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ben and Florence, and a niece, Elizabeth Langie.

Mary Barbara 'Maize' Gerzina
Mary Barbara 'Maize' Gerzina, 87, SERVICES: Funeral Mass 11 a.m. Tuesday in St. John’s Catholic Church in Biwabik, with the Rev. John O’Donnell as celebrant. Visitation one hour prior to service. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery in Biwabik. Arrangements are by Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home of Gilbert.

Mary Barbara “Maize’’ Gerzina, 87, of Biwabik died Saturday, Oct. 4, 2003, in the Virginia Convalescent Care Center.

She was born April 30, 1916, in Gilbert to Nicholas and Barbara (Jugovich) Vukelich. She attended school in Gilbert and later moved to Chicago with her family. There she was employed by several manufacturing companies. She married Matt Gerzina on Nov. 9, 1957, in Chicago. Following their marriage they returned to Biwabik, where she was a homemaker and an active member of St. John’s Church and its altar guild. She also was a member of the Slovenian Women’s Union and the Peterson-Lofquist-Bronczk American Legion Auxiliary. Maize enjoyed gardening and especially spending time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by her sons, John (Susan) Gerzina of Hibbing and Joseph (Sheri) Gerzina of Inver Grove Heights; sisters, Ann (Henry) Bombich of Cedar Lake, Ind., Louise Tancibok of London, England, and Catherine (Vincent) Fuoss of Brooksville, Fla.; grandchildren, Kristen, Katherine, Andrew, Matthew and Rebecca; sister-in-law, Ann Gerzina, of Biwabik; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Matt; and brothers, Mike and John.

Gerald ‘Crow’ Koroshec
Gerald ‘Crow’ Koroshec, 62, SERVICES: Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Wednesday in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Gilbert. The Rev. David Forsman will be celebrant. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today in Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Gilbert and will continue for one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. Burial will be in the Gilbert Cemetery.

Gerald “Crow” Koroshec, 62, of Gilbert, died Sunday, Oct. 5, 2003, in the Skilled Nursing Facility of the White Community Hospital in Aurora surrounded by family and close friends following a courageous 18 month battle with cancer.

He was born Aug. 12, 1941, in Gilbert to Alvin and Rose (Gregorich) Koroshec. He was a graduate of Gilbert High School and later worked as a millwright for Erie Mining Company, beginning in 1965. He retired from LTV Mining Co. in 2001.

He was a member of the Gilbert Volunteer Fire Department, the Gilbert Curling Club, the Steelworkers Union No. 4108, and served on the Gilbert Police Commission. Crow was a wonderful husband and father. He was an avid fisherman and hunter who loved spending time at the Greaney Shack. He enjoyed curling, hockey, softball, baseball and football. He was a friend who will be greatly missed and always enjoyed telling a good story. He especially had good times with his dog, Jake.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara of Brainerd; son, Michael Koroshec of Gilbert; daughters, Jill Koroshec of Pasadena, Calif., and Jeri (Ben) Swanson of St. Louis Park; mother, Rose Koroshec of Aurora; step-sons, Michael Walls of Homer, Alaska, and Christopher Walls of Hoyt Lakes; step-daughters, Sheryl (Rick) Turk of Big Lake, Lori (Eric) Remmick of Brainerd and Lisa (Chad) Laugen of Biwabik; brothers, Alvin (Renee) Koroshec of Aurora and Kevin Koroshec of California; sister, MaryAnn (Norman) Setnicker of Mahtomedi, Minn.; grandchildren, Holley, Brittaney, Jazmine, Morgan, Maria and Kade; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his father, Alvin; and first wife, Shirley Thompson.

Richard ‘Dick’ Kimball
Richard ‘Dick’ Kimball, 69, SERVICES: A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Bauman-Cron Funeral Home in Virginia. The visitation will continue on Friday from noon until the 1 p.m. funeral service at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Palo. The Rev. Brian Birk will officiate at the service. A further visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hill City. Interment will follow at Hill Lake Cemetery in Hill City. Richard “Dick” Kimball, 69, of Makinen, died Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2003, in his home. He was born Dec. 6, 1933, in South St. Paul, the son of Frank and Sophie (Tietz) Kimball. Dick graduated from high school in South St. Paul and went on to attend Utah State University for four years, where he attained his business degree. For over 27 years, he worked as a salesman for Nott Company in Minneapolis. Dick later moved to Hill City, where he resided for 32 years. While there, he was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and belonged on the church board. He was also on the Hill City School Board and actively participated in the DFL, being a former Aitkin County DFL Chair and Executive Committee member, a Sergeant at Arms at many county, district, and state DFL conventions, and a member of various committees at district and state levels. For the past 14 years, Dick has lived in Makinen and was a member and on the church board at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Palo. Dick loved being outdoors and enjoyed hunting, especially ducks and grouse.

He is survived by his children, Kathy (Jack) Hunt of Virginia, Lisa (Fred) Ward of Eveleth, Thomas (Lori) Kimball of Snoqualmie, Wash., and their mother, Mary Lou Kimball of Mountain Iron; six grandchildren, Melissa Hunt, Bryan Hunt, Lynsy Ward, Scott Ward, Keagan Waddell, and Caden Kimball; two brothers, Jack (Shirley) Kimball of Glendale, Ariz., and twin Robert (Susan) Kimball of Anoka, Minn.; special friend, Mary Lian; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Scott in 1984; and second wife, Jacqueline in 1994.

Tynne K. Lunder
Tynne K. Lunder, 87, SERVICES: A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Bauman-Cron Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Chuck Barnes will officiate at the service. Tynne K. Lunder, 87, of Parkville and formerly of Babbitt, died Sunday, Oct. 5, 2003, in the Eveleth Arrowhead Senior Living Community. She was born Oct. 11, 1915 in Kinney, the daughter of Gust and Hilma Alto. Tynne was an active member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Tynne liked cooking and sewing, and she loved her home. She also took pleasure in spending time at her cabin on Lake Vermilion, where she enjoyed fishing.

She is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Howard; her daughter, Lois (Don) Heikkila of Chisholm; grandchildren, Von, Jeremy, and Miranda Laine, Carie (Michael) Baumann, and Mindy (Ryan) McFarren; great-grandchildren; and one sister, Sylvia (Raynold) Carlson of Hibbing.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and three brothers, Arnie, Eric and Leslie Alto.
