Patsy D. ‘Pat’ Dimberio
Patsy D. ‘Pat’ Dimberio, 78, SERVICES: Funeral 11 a.m. Saturday at Range Funeral Home in Virginia, with the Rev. John Doyle officiating. Visitation one hour prior to service. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Virginia. Military rites will be accorded by the Virginia Color Guard.

Patsy D. “Pat” Dimberio, 78, of Virginia died Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2004, at the Virginia Regional Medical Center.

He was born Aug. 4, 1926, to Michael and Armonia (Minelli) Dimberio in Mountain Iron, where he grew up and attended school. He was a World War II veteran serving as a fireman in the Navy in the South Pacific. He married A.M. “Babs’’ Perslin in Virginia. He worked as a fireman for the city of Virginia for 25 years, retiring as a lieutenant in 1983.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Babs; daughters, Susan (Phillip) Medure of Britt and Nancy Dimberio of Menomonie, Wis.; a son, Tedd (Carol) Dimberio, of Braham, Minn.; a grandson, Josh Dimberio; a sister, Virginia (Alfred) Gavoni, of Chicago, Ill.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Leonard; and sisters, Margaret, Albina and Antoinette.

Nancy Susan Skenzich
Nancy Susan Skenzich, 70, SERVICES: Memorial service 10 a.m. Wednesday in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Gilbert, with the Rev. Joel Hastings and the Rev. Frank Perkovich as concelebrants. Visitation 5-7 p.m. Tuesday in the Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Gilbert, and will continue one hour prior to service at the church Wednesday. Inurnment will be in the Gilbert Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Gilbert Public Library.

Nancy Susan Skenzich, 70, of Gilbert died Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2004, at her home.

She was born July 14, 1934, in Superior, Wis., to William and Irga (Salminen) Hoffer. She was a graduate of Gilbert High School and later married Nicholas Skenzich on Feb. 7, 1954, in Chisholm. Along with her husband, Nancy was instrumental in forming the Gilbert Blue Line Club. She was a homemaker and worked for Knotty Pine Liquors in Gilbert. Following her husband’s death, she began working for the city of Gilbert as a librarian and remained working for the public library until the time of her death, with more than 20 years of service.

Nancy was an avid sports fan who enjoyed spending her weekends watching all types of sporting events, especially college basketball. She was also a member of the Ridge Riders and the George and Mark Klobuchar Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and enjoyed playing the organ in her home.

Survivors include her son, Michael (Shelly) Skenzich, of Gilbert; brother, William Hoffer, of Lake Nebagamon, Wis.; three grandchildren, Nicole, Jeremy and Robert Skenzich; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Nicholas; son, David; sister, Marie Kobe; and special companion, Muffin.

Reino A. Junttonen
Reino A. Junttonen, 89, SERVICES: Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Mlaker Funeral Home in Cook. The Rev. Dennis Sundeen will be the officiant. Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral. Interment will be in the Cook Community Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded the by the Cook Veterans of Foreign Wars Honor Guard.

Reino A. Junttonen, 89, of Virginia, formerly of Cook, died Monday, Aug. 2, 2004, at the Virginia Regional Medical Center.

He was born on Feb. 11, 1915, at Virginia, the son of John and Euphemiija (Kangas) Junttonen. At the age of 2, he moved with his family to rural Cook, where they settled the homestead. He attended school in Cook, and had served his country four years in the Army during World War II, in the European Theater of Operations. After his honorable discharge, he completed watchmaker school in Duluth. He was united in marriage to Ailie (Lehto) Nukala on Aug. 4, 1954, in Virginia. Reino worked a year at Valley City, N.D., then was employed for many years for Teske Jewelers in Hibbing. After his retirement from there, he became self employed, repairing watches and clocks — specializing in fixing antique clocks. Reino was proud of his Finnish heritage, and would often converse with friends and relatives in Finnish. He will be rememembered as a kind and gentle man. He attended the Virginia Bible Chapel, and was a member of the Virginia VFW.

Reino was avid collector, especially of antique clocks, and had enjoyed the outdoors, woodworking, spending time at the cabin on Lake Vermilion, and liked gardening with his wife, Ailie.

He is survived by 2 stepdaughters, Doreen (Arlee) Olson of Cook, and Ardythe (Jerry) Diwishek of Britt; 10 grandchildren: Brett and Renee Nukala, Kyle, Greg and Todd Olson, Brenda Tibbetts, Valorie, John, and Tim Diwishek and Michelle Gribbon.; 11 great-grandchildren: Roberta Monte, Suzanne Olson, Nathaniel, Carrie, and Benjamin Tibbetts, Jessica and Luke Olson, Casey Diwishek, Alia Gribbon, and Tate and Nicole Olson.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ailie Junttonen, on Sept. 14, 1997; a son, Marvin Nukala, in 1993; a brother, Wayne Junttonen; 3 sisters, Martha Gannon, Julia Kollari, and Hilda Kelly; and a great-grandson, Joey Tibbetts, in 1983.

Joy Laughlin, 64, SERVICES: Funeral 2 p.m. today at the Sand Lake Chapel in Britt, with the Rev. Robert Simensen officiating. Visitation one hour prior to service. Burial will be in the Sand Lake Chapel Cemetery. Arrangements are by Range Funeral Home in Virginia.

Joy Laughlin, 64, of Mountain Iron died Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2004, at the Virginia Regional Medical Center.

She was born July 23, 1940, to Ernest and Orpha (Haugen) Haavisto in Eveleth. She was raised in Britt and attended school in Embarrass. She enjoyed crocheting, sewing, gardening, cooking and reading. She also loved spending time with her grandchildren.

Survivors include four daughters, Peggy Laughlin of Virginia, Penny (Tim) Vought of Waseca, Minn., Pam Laughlin of Superior, Wis., and Tricia (Harold) Hoffman of Waseca, Minn.; a son, Glenn Laughlin (Michelle), of Virginia; her mother, Orpha Koski, of Virginia; five grandchildren, Shea Laughlin, Emily Vought, Nicole Laughlin, Gage Laughlin and Katrina Hoffman; two sisters, Jeanne (Rollie Poaletti) Janke of Virginia and Onalie King of Virginia; three brothers, Marvin Haavisto, Ralph Koski and Owney Koski, all of Virginia; two aunts, Irma and Judy; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father; stepfather; two sisters, Audrey and Nita; and an infant daughter, Lisa.

Shelbyjean Fish
Shelbyjean Fish, 68, SERVICES: A memorial service will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Babbitt. The Rev. Charles Barnes will officiate. Shelbyjean Fish, 68, of Babbitt died Thursday morning Aug. 5, 2004, at Arrowhead Senior Living Center in Eveleth following a long and courageous battle with cancer with her family by her side.

She was born May 13, 1936, in Warren, Minn., and was raised in rural Fosston, Minn., by her parents Arthur and Christine (Reichenbach) Krueger. Shelbyjean graduated from Fosston High School in 1954. She was united in marriage to Delbert George Fish on Sept. 27, 1954, in Fosston. In 1965 Bud and Shelby moved their family to rural Babbitt and into town two years later. Shelby was the first VFW Auxiliary president for Post 1539 and remained active for many years. She was a charter member for the Babbitt Park and Beautification Board, a member of the Babbitt Red Hats Society, a volunteer for Peter Mitchell Days, she cooked for many community fund raisers and was a leader for the Girl Scouts Brownie through Cadet stages. Shelby’s favorite pastime was working outdoors in her garden and with her plants. She enjoyed sharing her gardening knowledge and techniques, especially with her grandchildren. She also enjoyed gourmet cooking, interior decorating, landscaping, sewing and bargain shopping. Shelby loved her community and church. She had a special love for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband of 50 years, Delbert “Bud;’’ four children, Steve (Janet) of Grand Forks, N.D., Delby (Daniel) Seliga of Ely, Sheryl (Frank) Mathews of Ely and Duane (Jeanette) of Rosemount, Minn.; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Sheldon (Shirley) Krueger of Washington and Gary (Julie) Krueger of Fosston, Minn.; a sister, Elaine Krueger of Young America, Minn.; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her brother, John.

Susan (Schley) Anderson
Susan (Schley) Anderson, 58, SERVICES: Funeral at 10 a.m. today at St. Francis Catholic Church in Carlton, Minn. The Rev. David Tushar will be celebrant. Interment services and luncheon will follow. Visitation was held Friday at Nelson Funeral Care in Cloquet.

Susan L. (Schley) Anderson, 58, of Carlton died Thursday, Aug. 5, 2004, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Duluth.

She was born March 20, 1946, in Virginia to Joseph and Stella Schley. She graduated from Virginia High School, received a degree in word processing from WITC in Superior, Wis., and graduated with an associate degree in sociology from Fond du Lac College in Cloquet. She was married to Ronald Anderson on Aug. 21, 1965, in Virginia. She was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church in Carlton, where she was a member of the Legion of Mary, taught religious classes, served as eucharistic minister, usher and co-chaired the church bazaar. She also served as an ombudsman aide with the U.S. Navy. Susan loved walking, especially the Lake Walk, reading and crocheting baby blankets.

She is survived by her husband, Ronald; one son, David (Shelly) Anderson of Cloquet; three daughters, Mary (John) Fink of Cloquet, Paula (Dan) Baier of Carlton and Rhonda (Bret Haugen) Anderson of Brooklyn Park, Minn.; two brothers, David (Marty) Schley of Cairo, Neb., and James (Margaret) Schley of Biwabik; two sisters, Barb Leinonen of Virginia and Joann (Dario) Scipioni of Sullivan, Mo.; six grandchildren, Joseph Fink, Marisa Fink, Brittany Baier, Keagen Anderson, Sydney Baier and Mason Anderson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, William.

William Arthur Hyde
William Arthur Hyde, 84, SERVICES: Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Prospect Baptist Cemetery in Niangua, Mo., with full military honors provided by Webster County Military Honors Team under the direction of Day Funeral Home in Marshfield, Mo. There will be no formal visitation, but friends may call at their convenience at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Kingsway United Methodist Church in William’s honor and may be left at the funeral home.

William Arthur Hyde, 84, departed this life Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2004, in Springfield Rehab and Health Care in Springfield, Mo.

He was born July 1, 1920, in Niangua, Mo., to Arthur B. and Charlotte (Miller) Hyde. On Nov. 21, 1942, William was united in marriage to Mary (Sally) Day and they shared 61 1/2 years of life together. William graduated from the School of Mines in Rolla and was a pilot in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He had been employed with U.S. Steel as a mechanical engineer and his favorite pastime after retiring was fishing.

Survivors include his wife, Mary (Sally) Hyde of the home; one daughter, Rosalind (Bob) Wallace of Sacramento, Calif.; two sons, Bruce E. (Dory) Hyde, M.D., of St. Paul and William A. (Linda) Hyde of Layton, Utah; and six loving grandchildren.

William’s parents preceded him in death.

Ralph Haugen Koski
Ralph Haugen Koski, 53, SERVICES: Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral service on Monday at the Sand Lake Chapel in Britt. Associate in Ministry Brenda Tibbetts will officiate. Burial will be in the Sand Lake Chapel Cemetery. Arrangements are with the Range Funeral Home in Virginia.

Ralph Haugen Koski, 53, of Britt died Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2004, at the Virginia Regional Medical Center.

Ralph was born on Jan. 10, 1951, to Onni A. and Orpha (Haugen) Koski in Virginia. He grew up in Britt and attended Pike grade school and Embarrass high school. Following graduation, he attended Virginia Junior College for two years, followed by two years at the University of Minnesota, earning a degree in agriculture. Ralph was united in marriage to Sandra Mickelson in June 1972 in Virginia. He was employed with U.S. Steel, Minntac for 18 years. His hobbies included: woodworking, planting flowers. He especially enjoyed reading.

Survivors include three sons, Jason (Jodie) Koski of Rochester, Minn., Brandon Koski of Eveleth and Jeremy Koski of Britt; daughter, Amanda Koski of Britt; mother, Orpha Koski of Virginia; two grandsons, Connor Willis and Dean Koski; two sisters, Jeanne (Rollie Poaletti) Janke of Virginia and Onalie (Terry) King of Virginia; two brothers, Marvin Haavisto of Virginia and Owney (Dawn) Koski of Virginia; two aunts, Irma and Judy; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father; three sisters, Audrey, Nita and Joy; and one granddaughter, Katherine Koski.

Elma Tahti Granros
Elma Tahti Granros, 89, SERVICES: A service of remembrance will be held at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 14, 2004, at the First United Methodist Church of Brevard, N.C. Rev. Fred Jordan, Jr. will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to your local chapter of the American Heart Association. Asheville Mortuary Service of Asheville, N.C., is assisting the Granros Family.

Elma Tahti Granros, 89, who resided at Ivy Hill in Brevard, N.C., died Monday, Aug. 2, 2004. She was a fabulous mother and friend — the best.

She was born on Aug. 13, 1914, in Eveleth. She was a daughter of the late Paul and Minnie Tahti. She was a retired elementary school teacher from Miami, Fla. As a resident of Sebring, Fla., for a number of years, she was a member of the Sebring First United Methodist Church, Sebring Garden Club and Women's Club, and did volunteer work in the Sebring library and public schools. She was a violinist and fluent in Finnish. She was the widow of Clayton Granros who died in 1982, and was preceded in death by a son, Dale Granros in 1997.

Survivors include a son, Fred (Nancy) Granros of Brevard, N.C.; a daughter, Laura (James) Hodges of Tallahassee, Fla.; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Pia V. Marinello
Pia V. Marinello, 92, SERVICES: A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Buhl. The Rev. Jon Wild will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the mass. Burial will follow in the Lakeview Cemetery in Buhl. Arrangements are by Rupp Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Chisholm.

Pia V. Marinello, 92, of Lake Nebagamon, Wis., and formerly of Buhl, died Sunday, Aug. 1, 2004, at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Duluth.

She was born March 20, 1912, in Eveleth, to Stephano and Teresa (Martinelli) Ramponi. Pia was united in marriage on June 26, 1933, in Eveleth, to Rinaldo J. Marinello. She lived in Buhl from 1933 until 1957 and in Silver Bay until 1978, then in New Port Richey, Fla., until moving to Lake Nebagamon in 1990. She was a homemaker and was a former member of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Buhl. She was a loving and caring person who enjoyed helping others.

Pia is survived by her children, Marilyn Mott of New Port Richey, Fla., Kathleen (Gary) Kerola of Aurora, Angelo (Donna) Marinello of Wyoming, Minn., Gail (Randy) Engebretson of Lake Nebagamon, Wis.; 16 grandchildren; numerous great- and great-great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Rinaldo J. “Farmer,” on Sept. 23, 1990; brothers, Ernest, Leo, and Steve Ramponi; and sisters, Katherine Trenti and Olga Lavato.

The family would like to extend a very special thank you to the nursing staff in the hospice unit and on the fourth floor at St. Mary’s and to Dr. Sande for the special care during her final week of life.

Joan ‘Coco’ Yonkovich
Joan ‘Coco’ Yonkovich, 73, SERVICES: Memorial service at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Rupp Funeral Home & Cremation Service Chapel in Chisholm, with the Rev. Frank Perkovich officiating. Visitation for one hour before the service. Inurnment in the Chisholm Cemetery.

Joan “Coco’’ Yonkovich, 73, of Chisholm, died Friday, Aug. 6, 2004, at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Duluth.

She was born March 21, 1931, in Chisholm to Mike and Manda (Bichanich) Sertich. She was a 1949 graduate of Chisholm High School and a lifelong Chisholm resident.

Coco married Vlademir “Dunko’’ Yonkovich on Nov. 28, 1957. She participated in the remodeling of the Chisholm High School gym, was a past choir director at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and worked as a secretary for Sertich Plumbing. She enjoyed baking, fishing, crafts and sewing and loved spending time with her great-nieces and great-nephews.

She is survived by her husband, Vlademir “Dunko’’; one brother, Joe Sertich of Chisholm; four sisters, Kate Ikola, Mary Pothen, Julie Holland and Helen Swanovich, all of Chisholm; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Anne Yonkovich.

Lillian Violet Holmes
Lillian Violet Holmes, 85, SERVICES: Funeral 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Aurora, with the Rev. David Forsman officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to service. Burial will be in the Embarrass Cemetery.

Lillian Violet Holmes, 85, of Aurora died Saturday, Aug. 7, 2004, in the Virginia Regional Medical Center.

She was born Sept. 5, 1918, in Aurora to Steve and Rose (Grudnosky) Koski. She attended school in Aurora and later worked for the Hotel Duluth as a housekeeper. She returned to Aurora where she married Arnold Holmes and was a homemaker.

Survivors include her son, Michael (Wanda) Koski, of Aurora; sisters, Florence Koski of Embarrass and Elizabeth Davey of Babbitt; a grandson, Stewart Jay (Jennifer) Koski, of Rochester, Minn.; and great-grandchildren, Christian and Bergen Koski.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Arnold; grandson, Dean; and brothers, Stan, Ed, Joe, John and Walter.
