Allison B. Anscomb
Bev Walstrom of Proctor and Nancy Platzer of Twig are mourning the death of their mother Allison B. Anscomb of Superior. She died Sat., Nov. 9, 2002, in St. Mary's Medical Center, Duluth. She was 86.

Allison was born in Oshkosh, Wis. She lived in Silver Bay and Duluth prior to moving to Superior. She worked at St. Mary's Hospital in Duluth, Nopeming Nursing Home, and retired as a private duty nurse from St. Mary's Hospital. Allison was a member of St. Alban the Martyr Episcopal Church in Superior and was a former member of the Eastern Star in Silver Bay and the White Shrine of Jerusalem in Duluth.

Other survivors include her son Ronald (Karen Haugen) Edblad of Duluth, daughters Helen (Jerry) Holmquist of Duluth and Elaine Larson of Montevideo, Minn., two stepsons, two stepdaughters, a sister, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and several great-great-grandchildren.

Inurnment was at Sunrise Memorial Cemetery.

Beverly Rae Tozier
Lori Kershaw of Proctor is mourning the death of her mother, Beverly Rae Tozier, formerly of Meadowlands. She died Wed., Nov. 13, 2002, in Golden Oaks, following a brief battle with cancer. She was 70.

Beverly was born in Devils Lake, N.D. She was a homemaker and mother, and was a member of Christian Way Fellowship.

She is also survived by three sons, one sister, four brothers, and two grandchildren.

Burial was in Ft. Snelling National Cemetery.

Arrangements were made by Bell Brothers Funeral and Cremation Services.

Bernette Heegard
Kelly Heegard of Twig is mourning the death of his mother Bernette Heegard of Park Rapids, Minn. She died Mon., Nov. 11, 2002, at her home near Park Rapids. She was 80.

Bernette Jacobson was born at home north of Nevis, Minn. in 1922. She married Harley Heegard in 1941 at rural Park Rapids. In 1957, they moved to the Iron Range at Marble, Minn., where she was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church and active in the Ladies Aid. She worked part-time for the Marble Schools as a cook. In 1980 they moved to a farm in Straight River Township near Park Rapids.

She is also survived by her husband Harley Heegard of Menahga, Minn., another son Michael (Janice) Heegard of Menahga, daughters Jerelyn Heegard of Menahga and RoxAnne (Thomas) Wygant of Grand Marais, a sister Marjorie Fish of Hermantown, seven grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.

Irma E. Lokken
Patricia Carlson of Proctor is mourning the death of her mother, Irma E. Lokken of Mountain Iron. She died Sat., Nov. 16, 2002, in the Virginia Regional Medical Center. She was 75.

She is also survived by three sons, another daughter, a brother, four sisters, 15 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Interment was at the Celina Cemetery in St. Louis County.

Myrtle Maria (Nelson-Skog) Peterson
John Peterson of Saginaw is mourning the death of his stepmother, Myrtle Maria (Nelson-Skog) Peterson. The longtime Duluth resident died peacefully Mon., Nov. 11, 2002. She was 94.

She was born in St. Paul. Her family moved to Windemere Township outside of Moose Lake, Minn., when she was six. In 1924, she married John 'Jack' Skog and they moved to Proctor. Jack passed away in 1956. Myrtle married Lawrence 'Bud' Peterson in 1962. They made their home in Duluth. Bud died in 1975.

She is also survived by three granddaughters, two other stepchildren, many step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Burial was in Oneota Cemetery.

Beulah Elvira Olson
Mark Olson of Proctor is in mourning for his mother, Beulah Elvira Olson. She died Wed., Nov. 13, 2002, in Chris Jensen Health and Rehab Center in Duluth. She was 84.

Beulah was born in Trego, Wis. She grew up in the Lincoln Park area of Duluth and graduated from Denfeld High School in 1935. She attended Business College (now DBU) and took courses at UMD. Beulah worked in various secretarial jobs, including 15 years as a civilian employee with the U.S. Air Force until her retirement when the local base closed. After retirement, she was active as a volunteer income tax consultant and was well-known at the West End Senior's Center. Beulah was an active member of Lincoln Park Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir, taught Sunday school and was church clerk and recording secretary for many years.

She is also survived by a brother, another son, eight grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

William James Butler
William James Butler of Old Howard Road, died Wed., Nov. 27, 2002, in his home after a long illness. He was 75.

He was born in 1917 in Minneapolis and was raised in Hammond, Wis. He came to Duluth and graduated from UMD with an Engineering Degree. He was with the Army during the Korean War, and returned to Duluth, where he operated several businesses. Jim was an avid horseman and was a member of the AQHA, St. Louis County Fair Board, MQHA Board of Directors and 8th District President.

He is survived by his son William Jr. of Duluth, his daughter Jolynn (Steve) Cooper of Williams, Minn., grandchildren Joe and Ryan Cooper of Williams, and Hope Butler of Proctor, two sisters, and his loving companion Roady.

Burial was at Forest Hill cemetery. Military honors were accorded by the Duluth Combined Honor Guard.

Raymond A. Risberg
Proctor business owner Raymond A. Risberg, of Morgan Park, died Sun., Dec. 1, 2002, after a courageous seven-year battle with Hodgkin's Lymphoma. He was 71.

Ray was born in Duluth to Andrew and Marie (Carey) Risberg. He served in the Army during the Korean Conflict. He was owner and operator of Ray Risberg, Inc. and had been in the construction business for more than forty years.

He was a member of St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church in Morgan Park.

He is survived by his wife of forty-five years, Marlene M.; three daughters, Connie (Edward) Starasinich of Duluth, Julie (Brad) Miller of Proctor and Cindy (Jeff) Johnson of Superior; a brother, Robert (Barbara) of Sturgeon Lake; sisters, Irene (Leon) Carnewski of St. Paul, and Janis (Gene) Samuelson of Milton, Wis.; and grandchildren Kirk, Kyle, Karleigh, Christopher, Paige, Corey and Brandon.

Burial was in Oneota Cemetery. Military Honors accorded by the Duluth Combined Honor Guard. Arrangements by Bell Brothers Funeral and Cremation Services.

Louise A. Fossum
Louise A. Fossum, who had lived in Proctor from 1945 to 1995, died Tues., Nov. 26, 2002, in St. Mary's Nursing Center, Detroit Lakes, Minn. She was 94.

Louise was born in St. Paul, Minn. in 1908. She moved to Gonvick, Minn. as a young girl, attended school there, and graduated from Gonvick High School. She then attended Moorhead State Teachers College in Moorhead, Minn., where she earned a teaching certificate. She married Ole Fossum in 1939, in Gonvick. She moved to Detroit Lakes in 1995. She was a longtime member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Proctor.

She was preceded in death by her husband Ole in 1973.

She is survived by her son Orlis Fossum of Moerlbach, Germany, daughters Fay (Will) Johnson of Detroit Lakes, Connie (Ole) Jallo of Sartell, Minn. and Pat (Dave) Latvala of Rogers, Minn., seven grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, a brother, and many nieces and nephews.

Burial was in Sunrise Cemetery, Hermantown.

Clarence R. Bachke
Clarence R. Bachke, died Fri., Nov. 29, 2002, in Bayshore Health Facility. He was 90.

He was born in 1912 in Duluth and graduated from Central High School. He was a WW II veteran serving in the Merchant Marines. He married Audrey E. Nelson in 1943. He started as a fireman for the DM&IR Railway Co., and retired as an engineer in 1975. Clarence was an active member of Wesley United Methodist Church, a member of the Sons of Norway, American Legion, The Trinity Masonic Lodge #282, and the Order of Eastern Star Trinity Chapter #242.

He is survived by sons Jeff W. (Shelley) Bachke and Bruce R. (Dorothy) Bachke and five grandchildren, all of Duluth, niece Betty Musolon, nephew Keith Gay, and relatives Ruth and Shirley Bakke.

Burial was in Park Hill cemetery with military honors by the Duluth Combined Honor Guard.

Rosemary A. Ross
Shari Christensen of Proctor is mourning the death of her mother Rosemary A. Ross of Duluth. She died Thurs., Nov. 28, at St. Mary's Medical Center. She was 75.

Mary was born in 1927 in Eveleth. She married Howard S. Ross in 1947. She lived in Proctor for 53 years before moving to Duluth, and was a former member of St. Rose Catholic Church. She was a Proctor Journal subscriber since 1949. Mary was a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church. She retired from St. Louis County Social Services in 1993. She was an active volunteer for the Retired Senior Volunteer Program.

She was preceded in death by her husband Howard, her parents, a sister and a brother.

Mary is also survived by two other daughters, a son, five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, three sisters, two brothers, and many nieces and nephews.

Sandra King
Sandra King of Saginaw died Sun., Nov. 24, 2002, in Virginia Regional Medical Center. She was 48.

Sandy was born Feb. 28, 1954, in Duluth, the daughter of Edward and Joyce (Maple) Thompson. She was a 1972 graduate of AlBrook School and took secretarial classes after graduation. She married James King in 1986 in Cloquet. She was employed as a data processor at Diamond Brands in Cloquet for the last 12 years.

Sandy was preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by her husband James of Saginaw, daughter Jennifer Renee (Bruce) Johnson of Culver, grandchildren Dakota and Savannah Johnson of Culver, sisters Barb (Frank) Leimer of Mankato, Debbie MacNair (Dave Demenge) of Saginaw, Cheryl Rumpel, and Lori (Bob) Rabbers all of Brookston, brothers Ed (Cheri) Thompson of Saginaw, Bob (Shawna) Thompson of Rush City, and Jerry (Debbie) Thompson of Floodwood, and many nieces, nephews and friends.
