Lila E. Conklin
Lila E. Conklin, 89, SERVICES: Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at United in Christ Lutheran Church in Eveleth with Rev. Daniel L. Johns officiating. Inurnment will be in Eveleth Cemetery. Arrangements are by Cron-Sheehy Funeral Home in Eveleth.

Lila E. Conklin, 89, of Eveleth died Friday, Oct. 15, 2004, at St. Raphael’s Health & Rehabilitation Center in Eveleth.

She was born June 18, 1915, in Pennington, Minn., to Thorvald and Sena (Lone) Hanson. After graduating from Bemidji High School, she went to work in Minneapolis. Lila was married to Albert S. Conklin. During World War II, they lived in Ft. Wayne, Ind. After the war years, they farmed in Gonvick, Minn., and raised their family. Upon retiring from farming, they moved to Breckenridge, Minn., where they owned and operated a motel. Later due to Albert’s illness, they moved to Eveleth to be closer to their daughters. Lila was a member of United in Christ Lutheran Church and while living in Breckenridge became a life member of both the Eagle’s Auxiliary and the VFW Auxiliary. She also enjoyed sewing and crafting.

Survivors include her daughters, Nita Elaine (Phillip) Carter of Huntsville, Ala., and Dixie Dingman of Eveleth; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a brother, Roy (Maxine) Hanson of Breckenridge, Minn.; two sisters, Dolores (Art) Johnson of Starbuck, Minn., and Florence (Bud) Greenquist of Brandon, Minn.; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert; a daughter, Janice Wilcox; a great-granddaughter, Caytlyn Sherman; two brothers; siblings in infancy; and her parents.

Lucille M. Lutkevich
Lucille M. Lutkevich, 84, SERVICES: Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Friday at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Virginia with the Rev. Fr. John O’Donnell as celebrant. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Virginia. Arrangements are by the Landmark Funeral Home of Virginia.

Lucille M. Lutkevich, 84, of Virginia died Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2004, at the Cornerstone Villa in Buhl.

She was born Sept. 13, 1920, in Thief River Falls, Minn., to Ralph and Clara (Johnson) Longair. She had been a Virginia resident since 1922. Lucille was a graduate of the Virginia High School and Virginia Junior College. She married Charles A. Lutkevich in 1941. She worked as a nurse’s aide at the Virginia Municipal Hospital for 20 years. She was a former member of St. John the Baptist Church in Virginia and its Rosary Society.

Survivors include two daughters, Bonnie Bulver of Virginia and Mary Lou (John) Koivu of Eveleth; one son, Charles (Sharon) Lutkevich of Duluth; six grandchildren, Dr. Connie (Mike Scherer) Lutkevich of Duluth, Jill (Ed Kilby) Lutkevich of Duluth, Robert (Tina) Simmonsen of Muskogee, Okla., Craig Simmonsen of St. Cloud, Minn., Scott Simmonsen of Hibbing and Todd Simmonsen of Duluth; 10 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, McLaren (Mickey) Lostrom of Virginia and LaVerne Fulton of Glendale, Ariz.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charles in 1996; one son, Stephen “Lucky’’ Lutkevich in 2003; and one brother, Stephen Longair.

Delbert Lee Milton Sr.
Delbert Lee Milton Sr., 55, SERVICES: Private memorial services were held.

Delbert Lee Milton Sr., 55, of Buhl died Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2004, at his residence.

He was born Oct. 29, 1948, in Renton, Wash., to James H. Sr. and Edna M. (Rodlund) Milton. He attended Buhl schools. He grew up in Kinney and also lived in Texas, Iowa and Eveleth, prior to returning to Buhl in 2003. He was a Navy veteran of Vietnam.

He married Debra A. Walter on June 15, 2002, in Eveleth. He worked as a truck driver for Three Rivers Trucking Co. of Hibbing. He was a 25-year member of the International Brotherhood of the Teamsters. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Survivors include his wife, Debra A.; children, Lisa Milton of Chisholm, Delbert Jr. (Darla) of Buhl and Natalie Tuttle of Victor, Iowa; stepchildren, Brian Barker of Buhl and Jennifer Barker of Palo, Iowa; 15 grandchildren; one great-grandson; brothers, Joseph (Emilie) of Eveleth, Robert (Gail) of Chisholm, Earl (JoAnne) of Eveleth and Roger of Kinney; sisters, Lois (Frank) Hadrava and Lila (Ivan) Himmelright, both of Bemidji, Jean (Russell) Voss of San Antonio, Texas, and Joann (Raymond) Juntennen of Buhl; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, James Jr.; a stepson, Robert Barker; and an infant daughter.

Carol J. (Putzel) Niemi
Carol J. (Putzel) Niemi, 68, SERVICES: Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Cron-Sheehy Funeral Home in Eveleth. The Rev. Eric Lemonholm will officiate. A gathering for family and friends will begin at 1 p.m. Inurnment will be in the Eveleth Cemetery.

Carol J. (Putzel) Niemi, 68, of Eveleth died Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2004, at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Duluth.

She was married on Jan. 3, 1979, in Virginia to Fred G. Niemi. They made their home in Eveleth. Carol worked for several businesses in the area. Her last job before retiring was with the Eveleth Chamber of Commerce. She was a member of the Auxiliary to Mesaba Range Post 1172, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Heritage Committee. She loved baking, knitting, quilting and had been active in scouting with her sons.

She is survived by her sons, Ed (Michelle) Putzel and Ron Putzel, both of Eveleth; grandchildren, Jennifer (Mike) Rouleau of St. Paul, Angela Putzel (Eian Foote) of Eagan, Minn., Kellie (Jason) Tavolacci of Michigan, Casey Adamic of Eveleth; great-grandchildren, Madison Rouleau, Gavin Foote and Morgan Skinner; a brother, David Orehek of Arizona; and numerous nephews, nieces and extended family.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Ed Putzel; her second husband, Fred Niemi; a sister, Darlene Nikunen; and her parents, Tony and Bernice (LaMere) Orehek.

Josephine A. Rosati
Josephine A. Rosati, 83, SERVICES: Mass of Christian Burial at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Resurrection Catholic Church in Eveleth. The Rev. Joel Hastings will be celebrant. Visitation will be for one hour before the service at the church. Interment will be in the Eveleth Cemetery. Arrangements are by Cron-Sheehy Funeral Home in Eveleth.

Josephine A. Rosati, 83, of New Hope, Minn., formerly of Eveleth, died Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2004, at St. Therese Home in New Hope.

She was born on Feb. 25, 1921, in Eveleth and was married to Albert C. Rosati on Sept. 5, 1942, in Philadelphia, Pa.

Josephine is survived by a son, Albert Jr. (Joyce) Rosati of Bothell, Wash.; a daughter, Joanne (Ron) Weum of Maple Grove, Minn.; 1o0 grandchildren; and a sister, Sister Hermina of Duluth.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert, and a daughter, Susan.

Ryan R. Ranisate
Ryan R. Ranisate, 22, SERVICES: Visitation with no reviewal was from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. services Friday, Oct. 23, in Bauman-Cron Funeral Home Chapel in Virginia. The Rev. Darin Elvemo will officiate. Interment will be in the Greenwood Cemetery in Virginia. Family services are provided by Bauman-Cron, a Bauman Family Funeral Home, in Virginia. Ryan R. “Rigby’’ Ranisate, 22, of Eveleth and formerly of Virginia, passed away Monday, Oct. 18, 2004, in his home.

He was born June 9, 1982, the son of Robert and Debbie (Sipola) Ranisate. He attended school in Virginia and worked as a logger with his father. Ryan loved to go hunting and fishing. His family and friends were very important to him, and he enjoyed spending time with them.

Survivors include his father, Robert (Gale) Ranisate of Virginia; his mother, Debbie (William) Killoran of Parrottsville, Tenn.; his sister, Amanda (Scott) Lackner of Parrottsville; his stepbrother, Jeremy Heem of Springfield, Minn.; his stepsister, Krystallee (Joe) Husemoller of Virginia; his maternal grandparents, Jim (Helvi) Sipola of Tower; his paternal grandfather, Mac (Janet) Ranisate of Tower; his paternal grandmother, Beverly Ranisate of Aurora; three nephews; and numerous uncles, aunts, cousins and friends.

Alfred M. Fosvick
Alfred M. Fosvick, 92, SERVICES: Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Calvary Lutheran Church in Orr. Rev. Arthur Dale will be the officiant. Interment with services will be held in Hinckley. Local arrangements are with the Mlaker Funeral Home in Cook.

Alfred M. Fosvick, 92, of Orr, died Saturday, Oct. 16, 2004, at the Cook Nursing Home.

He was born at Sioux City, Iowa, on June 16, 1912. His family moved to Hinckley in 1918, where he grew up and farmed. He moved to Orr in the mid 1950’s where he has since resided. He worked in the woods, and was employed for many years with the former Echo Timber on the Echo Trail, where he operated a peeler machine. He was a longtime, faithful member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Orr, and earlier was a member of the Buyck Snowmobile Club. He has lived in the Orr Housing Unit since 1979.

He is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

August Charles Phillipich Sr.
August Charles Phillipich Sr., 88, SERVICES: Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Virginia, with the Rev. John O’Donnell officiating. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, with Rosary recitation at 7 p.m., at Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Gilbert, and will continue one hour prior to the services Tuesday at the church. Burial with military honors provided by George and Mark Klobuchar VFW Post No. 4456 of Gilbert will be in Calvary Cemetery in Virginia.

August Charles Phillipich Sr., 88, of Virginia, died Thursday, Oct. 21, 2004, at his home.

He was born in Elcor, Minn., to John Sr. and Johanna (Zagar) Phillipich and was raised there and was a graduate of Gilbert High School. Following school, he was employed with the Civilian Conservation Corps. He married Mary Ann Milinkovich in 1941. Following discharge, he settled in Virginia, where he was employed by Oliver Mining Co., and later U.S. Steel, retiring as a carpenter. In his retirement, he enjoyed attending auction sales, fishing, deer hunting, gardening, canning produce, and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Virginia and Iron Workers Local No. 1938.

He is survived by sons, Michael (Ann) of Cedaredge, Colo., and August Jr. “Gus” (Sandra) of Virginia; daughters, Elizabeth Peliska of Anoka, Minn., and Mary Jo (Ray) Kivi of Reno, Nev.; a sister, Cecilia Crandall of Scottsdale, Ariz.; brothers, Anthony (Mary) of Lansing, Mich., and Leonard of Gilbert; a sister-in-law, Eleanore Phillipich of Eshquaguma; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary Ann; sisters, Anne Chandler, Johanna Thibault, Mary Phillipich, Kathernine Jones, and Helen Blessner; brothers, Nick Phillips, John Phillipich Jr., and Albert Phillipich.

Gertrude V. Klobuchar
Gertrude V. Klobuchar, 78, SERVICES: A gathering of family and friends will be at 4:30 p.m. Monday at the United Methodist Church in Ely, with the Rev. William Fossum officiating. Arrangements are by the Landmark Funeral Home of Virginia.

Gertrude V. Klobuchar, 78, of Ely, died Thursday, Oct. 21, 2004, at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Duluth.

She was born Dec. 26, 1925, in Section 30 near Ely, to John and Susan (Wiitala) Kaatiala, and grew up there. She was a graduate of the Ely High School. Gertrude married Jake Klobuchar on Sept. 28, 1946, in Ely. She worked for JC Penny in Ely for 17 years and did volunteer work at the Ely hospital and nursing home. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Ely, and the VFW Auxiliary of Ely.

She is survived by her husband, Jake; one daughter, Roxanne (Jerry) Sidio of Providence, R.I.; two sons, Rick Klobuchar of Virginia, and Brian (Susan) Klobuchar of Superior, Wis.; five grandchildren, Bradley Sidio, Erik Sidio, Jeremy Klobuchar, Nicole Klobuchar, and Kyle Klobuchar; one sister, Rhoda Deyak of Rockwell, Md.; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother; and one sister.

Edna A. Gabrielson
Edna A. Gabrielson, 86, SERVICES: Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Calvary Lutheran Church in Orr. The Rev. Arthur Dale will be the officiant. Inurnment will be in Bethlehem Lutheran Cemetery, in Askov, Minn. Arrangements are with the Mlaker Funeral Home, Cook.

Edna A. Gabrielson, 86, of Orr, died Friday, Oct. 22, 2004, at the Cook Nursing Home.

She was born on Oct. 20, 1918, at Bruno, Minn., the daughter of William and Ingeloff (Hoganson) LePeer. She grew up in Bruno and was united in marriage to Albert Christensen in Partridge Township, Pine County, in May 1939. They dairy farmed in Pine County and moved to Orr in 1947, where he took up logging. In the 1950s, Edna began working at Patten’s Café, where she was a cook and baker, retiring in 1973. Albert died on Dec. 8, 1964, and she married Edward Gabrielson in December 1965. Edward owned and operated a well-known house moving business. She was a longtime member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Orr, and belonged to the Orr American Legion Auxiliary. Edna enjoyed gardening and took great pride in her flowers. Her yard was full of color in the summer. She enjoyed handwork, especially crocheting and knitting, and had made numerous items for family and church bazaars.

She is survived by one son, Arvid (Jacqueline “Jackie”) Christensen of Orr; a sister, Ruth Webster of Ormond Beach, Fla.; two granddaughters, Vicky (John) Schwersinske, and Sherry (Gary) Livernash; and three great-grandchildren, Matthew, Katie, and Mariah.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Albert Christensen on Dec. 8, 1964, and Edward Gabrielson on Oct. 1, 1980; and by two brothers, Leonard and Harvey LePeer.

Rebecca Joyce Ferguson
Rebecca Joyce Ferguson, SERVICES: Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Good Shepherd Free Lutheran Church in Virginia. A private burial will be held at a later date. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the March of Dimes, 130 W. Superior St., Suite 100, Lower Level 2, Duluth, MN 55802.

Rebecca Joyce Ferguson was born Saturday, Oct. 16, 2004, and went straight into the loving arms of the Lord.

She is loved and missed by her parents, Kenneth and Jena Ferguson of Camp Pendleton, Calif.; grandparents, Joyce Ferguson of Babbitt, James Ferguson of Villa Park, Ill., and Bill and Jill Schmitke of Virginia; aunt, Lisa Schmitke of St. Michael, Minn.; uncles, Brian Ferguson of San Jose, Calif., and Chris Ferguson of Addison, Ill.; and many other loving family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her great-grandparents, Joseph and Ann Frost, and James Ferguson; and her uncle, Thomas Ferguson.

Dean B. Lamppa
Dean B. Lamppa, 49, SERVICES: Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Virginia, with the Rev. Robert Simensen officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. The family prefers memorials to Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. Arrangements are by the Landmark Funeral Home of Virginia.

Dean B. Lamppa, 49, of Virginia, died Thursday, Oct. 21, 2004, at his home.

He was born Oct. 14, 1955, in Virginia, to Irving and Arlene (Crayne) Lamppa. He graduated from the Aurora-Hoyt Lakes High School and worked in the construction field until being injured. Dean enjoyed fishing in the Boundary Waters and hunting with friends.

Survivors include his son, Aaron Lamppa of Daytona, Fla.; former wife, Mary Lamppa of Daytona, Fla.; his parents, Irving and Arlene Lamppa of Virginia; two brothers, Dale (Midge) Lamppa of Chanhassen, Minn., and Dan (Nancy) Lamppa of Eveleth; and many aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces and cousins.
