Amy Bondhus

Amy Bondhus, 60, of rural Storden died Feb. 28, 2002, at Tucson Heart Hospital in Tucson, Ariz.
Services will be held today (Wednesday) at Amo Lutheran Church in rural Storden with Rev. Alan Buresh officiating.
Special music will be provided by Robyn Galer, organist; and Margaret and Mark Yackel-Juleen, vocalists.

The eulogy will be given by Rev. Thomas Brennan.
Casketbearers will be Rodney Missling, Gary Spillum, Tom Brennan, Darrel Smith, Kyle Cruit and Merlin Hansen.
Honorary casketbearers will be Amy’s grandchildren, Christina (Bondhus) Hamner, Adam Bondhus, Karissa Kuehl-Solinger, Amanda Solinger and Kayla Kuehl-Solinger.
Interment will follow at Amo Lutheran Cemetery in rural Storden.

Anderson-Schmidt-LaCanne Funeral Home of Windom and Storden is in charge of the funeral arrangements.
Amy Louise Johnson was born Aug. 3, 1941, to William and Doris (Cary) Johnson in Ramsey County Hospital in St. Paul. A year later, Amy moved with her family to Portland, Ore., until moving to South St. Paul in 1946.

As an eighth-grader, she was confirmed in the Methodist faith and later baptized as an adult. She received her education in South St. Paul schools, graduating in 1959.
In 1961, Amy married Wayne Bondhus in South St. Paul. Amy and Wayne farmed in Amo Township of Cottonwood County. In addition to caring for their home and raising two children with Wayne, Amy assisted Wayne with farm operations as well as Wayne’s seed business.

In 1989, Amy and Wayne began spending winters in Tucson, Ariz.
Amy was a member of Amo Lutheran Church for many years. She served as a Bible School teacher, participated in a Bible study, was a member of the circle, the church council, WELCA, the church choir, and president of ALCW.
She also enjoyed fishing.

She was preceded in death by a brother, William; and an infant sister, Barbara.
Survivors include her husband, Wayne Bondhus of Storden; her children, Jon (Alva) Bondhus of Windom; and Jill (Joe) Solinger of Burnsville; five grandchildren; and 10 brothers and sisters: Judy (Tom) Brennan of Shoreview; Betty (Wayne) Demers of Hastings; Tom Johnson of Sarasota, Fla.; Joyce (John) Stadt of North Port, Fla.; Robert Johnson of South St. Paul; Laurie Johnson of Brainerd; David Johnson of Inver Grove Heights; Gary Johnson of Arizona; Janet Johnson and Mary Jo Tharpe, both of Port Charlotte, Fla.

Regina Lange

Regina “Jean” Lange, 70, of Windom died Feb. 23, 2002, at Sunrise Hospital in Las Vegas, Nev., following a 1˝-year battle with cancer.

Services were held Saturday at American Lutheran Church in Windom with Rev. Stephen Norby officiating.
Special music was provided by Karen Wojahn, organist; and her nieces, vocalists.

Casketbearers were Michael Lange, Brannon Lange, Doug Soleta, Rich Majerus, Ivan Carter Jr., and Jeff Maras.
Honorary casketbearers were Iris Knudson, Elmer Deutchmann, Chet and June Richardson, Connie Myers, Connie Meier, Ken Cogley, Richard Seydel, Ed and Edna Kliewer, Mike and Mary Fanning and Reid Oleson.

Interment was at Memory Gardens Cemetery, rural Windom.

Regina “Jean” Ann Messenbrink was born Dec. 9, 1931, to George and Anna (Grunewald) Messenbrink in Windom. She was baptized at an early age and later confirmed at Bethany Lutheran Church in Jeffers. She grew up in Dale Township of Cottonwood County and received her early education in rural Cottonwood County schools. She later attended Windom High School, where she was a member of the class of 1949.

In 1949, Regina married John Lange in Jeffers. The couple farmed in Cottonwood, Murray and Brown counties until moving to Sleepy Eye and then Morton for a short time.
John and Regina moved to Windom in 1969, where Regina was employed by The Toro Company as an inspector before retiring in 1998. Regina also held offices with the local union in Windom.

Regina also had great interest in the Democratic Party in the Windom area and, following her retirement, she and John became sprint car race fans. They followed the World of Outlaws Series, travelling to Las Vegas, Nev., and other locations to watch the races.
Regina was a member of American Lutheran Church in Windom. She enjoyed knitting.

Survivors include her husband, John Lange of Windom; her children, Douglas (Barbara) Lange of St. Paul; Robert (Wanda) Lange and Sherry (David) Bartosh, all of Glenwood; Richard Lange of Las Vegas, Nev.; and Jeff (Shelley) Lange of Windom; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two brothers, Albert Messenbrink of Tracy and Harold (Effie) Messenbrink of Spring, Texas; and one sister, Glaudette (Ivan) Carter of Jeffers.

Greta Kennedy

Greta Kennedy, 69, of Windom died Feb. 25, 2002, at her home in Windom.
Memorial services were held Monday at Bethany Lutheran Church in rural Bergen with Rev. Eugene Peterson officiating.

Special music was provided by Carol Sandve, organist; and Nancy Rogers, pianist.
Inurnment will be at Lakeview Cemetery in Windom at a later date.

Greta Arlene Hoffman was born Sept. 30, 1932, to Clarence and Lena (Tuene) Hoffman in Chicago, Ill. She was baptized at an early age in Chicago. She grew up and received her education there and worked for Motorola for a short time.

In 1954, Greta married Donald Kennedy at Barksdale Air Force Base in Louisiana. The couple lived in Minneapolis where Greta worked for Shaper Toy Manufacturing and also held other various factory positions through the years until retiring in the mid 1980s.

In 1991, Greta and Don moved to Windom.
Greta was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in rural Bergen. She also enjoyed knitting.

Survivors include her husband Donald Kennedy of Windom; her children, William (Nancy) Kennedy of Hopkins, Laura (Jerry) Pitzen of Farmington, Joseph (Beth) Kennedy of Princeton, Arlene (Kern) Storo of Le Roy and Michael (Susan) Kennedy of Hugo; six grandchildren; and one sister, Delores (James) Johnson of Orlando, Fla.

Perry Shaw

Perry Shaw, 70, of Dovray died Feb. 27, 2002, at Hospice Care in Windom.
Services were held Saturday at Immanuel Baptist Church in Westbrook.

Interment was at Westbrook Cemetery in Westbrook.
Westbrook Funeral Home of Westbrook was in charge of the funeral arrangements.
Perry Darwin Shaw was born Oct. 18, 1931, to Walter and Mae (Stivarius) Shaw on their family farm north of Dovray. He attended District 27 country school before graduating from Westbrook High School.

After receiving his formal education, he farmed with his father and worked at the Dovray Creamery.
In 1951, Perry married JoAnn Lohre of Storden at Old Westbrook Church. The couple moved to St. Paul where Perry worked for Swifts until 1954.

They returned to Dovray and took over operations on the family farm before selling the farm in 1958. However, Perry continued raising livestock, while also working as a mechanic. He later started his trucking career, becoming an owner/operator in 1985.

Although semi-retired for the past 10 years, Perry continued to truck and farm part-time.
Perry was diagnosed with colon cancer in 2000. After radiation and chemotherapy his cancer had been in remission until November 2001. During his illness, Perry accepted Christ Jesus as his Savior.

Perry’s enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodcutting, wood burning and mechanics.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Vernon, Melvin “Pat”, and Richard Shaw.

Survivors include his wife, JoAnn of Dovray; two daughters, Deborah (Jeff) Borkenhagen of Hutchinson and Robin (Gene) Paplow of Dundee; three sons, Mike Shaw of Austin, Texas; Randy (Tonya) Shaw of Dovray; and Kent (Jodi Ruppert) Shaw of New Milford, Conn.; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three sisters, Virginia Regneir of Dovray, Polly Cassidy of Minneapolis and Geneieve Oreck of Tuscon, Ariz.; and a brother, Jim Shaw of Dovray.

Marion Kvilhaug

Marion Caswell Kvilhaug, 90, of Westbrook died March 2, 2002, at her Good Samaritan Home in Westbrook.
Services were held Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Westbrook with Rev. William Klavetter officiating.
Special music was provided by Tasha Nelson, organist; and Patty Spielman, soloist.

Casketbearers were Wade Anderson, Tracy Anderson, Mark Caswell, Scott Caswell, Paul Caswell, Curtis Cohrs, Brett Bunting, Tony Bunting, Kent Bunting, Dean Bunting, Jason Vander Ploeg and Joel Vander Ploeg.
Interment was at Westbrook Cemetery in Westbrook.
Almlie Funeral Home of Westbrook was in charge of the funeral arrangements.

Marion Edwards was born Oct. 19, 1911, to Wallace and Emma (Paulson) Edwards in Drayton, N.D. She received her formal education attending country school in North Dakota. She was baptized and confirmed at United Methodist Church in Drayton.

In 1929, she married Ted Caswell in Karlstad. The couple lived in Madelia before moving to Westbrook in 1940.
Ted died in 1970 and in 1974 Marion married Ole Kvilhaug at Trinity Lutheran Church in Westbrook. The couple made their home in Westbrook and enjoyed traveling together, including visiting Norway in 1975.

Early in 1997, Marion, and later Ole, became residents of Good Samaritan Home in Westbrook.
During her lifetime, Marion was employed as a retail clerk in various Westbrook businesses.

In addition to traveling together, Marion and Ole were members of Stavanger Sons of Norway. Marion also was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and enjoyed sewing, quilting and building doll houses.

In addition to her first husband Ted, Marion was preceded in death by her second husband Ole Kvilhaug; a daughter, Janet Cohrs; a grandson; two great-grandsons; a sister, Gladys Chester; and a daughter-in-law, Lynda Caswell.

Survivors include her son, Charles Caswell of Westbrook; three daughters, Shirley (Vandell) Anderson of Aurora, Colo.; Teddy (Bob) Bunting of Westbrook; and Luann (Dennis) Vander Ploeg of Manchester, Mo.; 25 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren; step-children, Orie Kvilhaug, Merlyn Kvilhaug and Betheen Bean; step-grandchildren; and step-great-grandchildren.

Phoebe Flor

Phoebe Flor, 93, of Westbrook died March 3, 2002, at Good Samaritan Home in Westbrook.
Services were held Saturday at Grace Lutheran Church in Westbrook with Rev. Roy Williams officiating.
Special music was provided by Betty Rupp, organist; and Mark Warner, soloist.

Casketbearers were Mike Hass, Curt Anderson, Larry Anderson, Wayne Spielman, Roy Spielman and Ronald Lintner.
Honorary casketbearers were Milford E. Anderson, Bud Kuehl, Clarence Hass, Lloyd Spielman, Harris Lintner, Russell Rupp and Maurice Mitchell.

Interment was at Westbrook Cemetery in Westbrook.
Almlie Funeral Home of Westbrook was in charge of the funeral arrangements.
Phoebe Kulikowski was born May 22, 1908, to Franciser and Francesha Kulikowski in Bialystok, Poland. She came to America as an infant with her widowed mother, five brothers and two sisters and settled in New York.

Phoebe grew up there, attending Preston High School and later, Lowell Ridley School of Business in Binghampton, N.Y. She was employed as office manager for General Cigar Company in New York prior to her marriage.

In 1944, Phoebe was with the USO Club and met Arthur Flor as he was departing for Europe to serve in World War II. When Art was discharged in 1945, he returned home to Minnesota, then went to New York.
Phoebe and Art were married in 1946 in Maryland. Art and Phoebe lived and farmed in Rosehill Township, near Westbrook.

In 1968, the couple moved into their retirement home in Westbrook and later became residents of Westwood Apartments.
Following Art’s death in 1994, Phoebe became a resident at Good Samaritan Home in Westbrook.
Phoebe and Art enjoyed traveling and spent several winters in Las Vegas, Nev. Phoebe also enjoyed following the Minnesota Twins and playing bridge.

She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Westbrook. She was also a member of the Rosehill Extension Club, Rosehill Birthday Club, Neighborly Club, VFW Auxiliary and enjoyed Senior Center activities.

In addition to her husband Art, Phoebe was preceded in death by five brothers and two sisters.
Survivors include her nieces and nephews.

Bonnabel Hanson

Bonnabel Hanson, 81, of Windom died March 10, 2002, at her home in Windom.
Services will be held today (Wednesday) at 1 p.m., at American Lutheran Church in Windom with Rev. Stephen Norby and Rev. Gregory Hall officiating.
Special music will be provided by Ronald and Cheryl Janssen and the Janssen family, vocalists; and Karen Wojahn, organist.

Casketbearers will be Kelly Woizeschke, Steve Clark, Tim Coyle, Terry Otto, Greg Johnson and David Thompson.
Interment will follow at Lakeview Cemetery in Windom.
Visitation will be held today for one hour prior to services at the church.

Bonnabel Mary Fricke was born Oct. 25, 1920, to Edward and Achsah (Warner) Fricke in Bingham Lake. She grew up in the Bingham Lake area and attended Bingham Lake School, graduating from Bingham Lake High School in 1938.

In 1945, Bonnabel married C. Martin Hanson in Windom. The couple farmed east of Windom all their married lives. Bonnabel also worked for the Fingerhut Company in Windom, from its opening to its closing.

Martin died in 1982 and Bonnabel continued living at home in Windom until 1983. For the past four years, Bonnabel had been receiving dialysis, first in Redwood Falls and for the last year in Worthington.

Bonnabel was a member of American Lutheran Church in Windom, where she taught Sunday School. She also served as an adult leader in the 4-H club for many years.
She enjoyed taking part in the Bingham Lake Alumni Association, attending all its reunions. She also enjoyed gardening and was a member of the Bingham Lake Garden Club. Bonnabel participated in Home Council Study groups.

In addition to her husband Martin, Bonnabel was preceded in death by an infant son; an infant granddaughter, Amy Hanson; and a sister, Cleo Grunewald.
Survivors include her son, C. Michael (Susan) Hanson of Bingham Lake; a daughter, Cheryl Hanson of Windom; two grandsons; and sisters.
