Dorothy Kinnunen
Dorothy Kinnunen, 77, SERVICES: Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday at St. Benedict Church. Visitation will be the night prior at the Johnson-Crawford Funeral Chapel from 5 to 7:30 p.m. with a prayer service and a recitation of the rosary at 7:30 p.m. The family requests that memorials be sent to the Superior Life Care Center, (218) 727-3399. Johnson-Crawford Funeral and Cremation Service is assisting the family with arrangements.

Dorothy Kinnunen, 77, of Duluth passed away Friday, Dec. 10, 2004, at her residence.

She was born in Proctor on Dec. 18, 1927, to John and Beatrice Engebritson. Dorothy lived an extraordinary life, though she tended to downplay her talents and accomplishments. She will be remembered as a talented violinist (she played in the Duluth Symphony as a young woman), a gifted seamstress and quilter, a gourmet cook, a registered nurse, dear friend, and deeply beloved mother. She possessed an unusual sense of adventure. Dorothy traveled the world including China, Australia, the Far East, and multiple trips to Europe. She volunteered at St. Luke’s Hospital and belonged to St. Benedict’s Church. Dorothy will be missed as a guiding force in the Kinnunen family, a rare matriarch.

Dorothy is survived by her children, Kristine (Larry) Saverslak, Jane Kinnunen, Nancy (Michael) Kinnunen-Maxim, Mary Beth (Brandon) Curto, William (Nadya) Kinnunen, Susan (Gary) Soya; 18 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, William A Kinnunen; her parents; her stepfather, Samual Brown; and one brother, Douglas J. Engebritson.

Gary Richard Dubbin
Gary Richard Dubbin, 46, SERVICES: Private family services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Spinal Cord Society, Wendell Road, Fergus Falls, Minn., 56537. Family services provided by Kerntz Brothers, a Bauman Family Funeral Home in Ely. Gary Richard Dubbin, 46, died Friday, Dec. 10, 2004, at his home in Winton.

He was born on Aug. 6, 1958, in Winton to Floyd and Adrienne (Huneke) Dubbin. Gary attended school in Ely and then truck driving school in Sun Prairie, Wis. He was a lifelong resident of Winton. He enjoyed working on his hotrods, spending time with friends and watching wildlife from his home on the river. Gary’s determination and courage was an inspiration to all who knew him.

Gary is survived by his parents, Floyd and Adrienne of Winton; a sister, Debbie (Bill) Erzar of Ely; two brothers, Jeff of Duluth and Ron (Lori) of Ely; two nephews, Eddie and Chris Erzar of Ely; his dog, Windsor; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents.

Evelyn J. Maki
Evelyn J. Maki, 89, SERVICES: Private family graveside services were held at the Lakeside Cemetery in Biwabik. Arrangements were with the Range Funeral Home in Virginia.

Evelyn J. (Saari) Maki, 89, of Biwabik died Wednesday, Dec. 8, 2004, at St. Raphael’s Health & Rehabilitation Center in Eveleth.

She was born June 16, 1915, to John and Liisa (Jousila) Saari in Biwabik where she grew up and attended schools. Evelyn worked at the shirt factory in Gilbert for many years. After years of making her home in Biwabik and Makinen, she moved to Virginia.

Survivors include her daughter, June (Ronald) Askegaard of Foxboro, Wis.; son, Donald (Jane) Johnson of Lake Vermilion, Tower; five grandchildren, Joy (Philip) Bodine of Isanti, Minn., Boyd (Jodi) Johnson of Mounds View, Minn., Todd Askegaard of Nashville, Tenn., Pamela (John) Ericson of Richfield, Minn., and Duane Askegaard of Foxboro, Wis.; five great-grandchildren, Travis and Alycia Blomquist, Nona Ericson, and Rylie and Ryan Johnson; sister, Ina Knauff of Fort Francis, Ontario; numerous nieces and nephews; and former husband, Eero Maki of Makinen.

She was preceded in death by her parents; former husband, William Johnson; granddaughter, Dawn Marie Johnson; three sisters, Lilly Anderson, Mae Nelson and Helen Basista; three brothers, John, George and Eino Saari; and her special friend of many years, Art Hujanen.

Janice B. Taylor
Janice B. Taylor, 65, SERVICES: Memorial service 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Community United Church of Christ in Biwabik, with the Rev. Rebecca Wentworth officiating. Arrangements by Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Gilbert.

Janice B. Taylor, 65, of rural Gilbert died Friday, Dec. 10, 2004, in the Virginia Regional Medical Center.

She was born Feb. 14, 1939, in Fosston, Minn., to Alfonso and Henrietta (Ostgarden) Thoreson. She attended school in Trail, Minn., and later was united in marriage to Everett Leppanen for nearly 20 years. She worked for the Cluett Peabody Shirt Factory in Eveleth and in 1974 began working for Erie Mining Co. in Hoyt Lakes. She married Grover Taylor on Dec. 31, 1977. Janice worked as a laborer in the concentrator and retired from LTV Mining Co. in 1999.

Following retirement she worked at the Biwabik Lodge and enjoyed traveling, playing bingo and making ceramics. She was a member of the Community Church of Christ and the Steelworkers Union Local 4108.

Survivors include her children, Randy Leppanen of St. Louis Park, Vicky (Howard) Lahti of Aurora and Keith Leppanen of Pine River; a brother, Lyle Thoreson, of Golden, Mo.; a grandson, Jason Lahti, of Aurora; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Grover; and four brothers, Wally, Gordon, Lloyd and Clayton.

Robert S. Hecimovich
Robert S. Hecimovich, 65, SERVICES: Funeral services will be at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Hibbing. The Rev. Peter Muhich will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Dougherty Funeral Home, with wake prayers at 7 p.m. Arrangements are with the Dougherty Funeral Home of Hibbing.

Robert S. Hecimovich, 65, lifelong resident of Hibbing, died Friday, Dec. 10, 2004, in the Heritage Manor Health Care Center in Chisholm, after a very long and courageous fight with Alzheimer’s Disease.

He was born Sept. 18, 1939, in Hibbing, to Peter and Mary Hecimovich. He worked as a foreman for Davey McKee Engineers and Constructors for more than 20 years. He was a member of Local No. 1097, where he held multiple positions and worked many various jobs after the closing of Davey McKee. He was a member of the Elks Club and Blessed Sacrament Church. He spent much of his free time in the outdoors doing the things he enjoyed the most — hunting, trapping and fishing. He also enjoyed watching his Sunday Vikings football games and his favorite NASCAR driver, Bill Elliott. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and especially cherished the time he spent with his grandchildren. His loving smile and kind heart will be deeply missed and never forgotten by his family.

He is survived by his wife, Jacqueline; his sons, Mike of Hibbing, Paul of Hibbing; his daughter, Christine (Jim) LaFavor; grandchildren, Keith, Kevin, and Hannah of Hibbing; two brothers, Tony (Martha) of Hibbing, Martin (Bobbi Jo) of Minnesota; two sisters, Eva (Stanley) Miller of Hibbing, and Rosemary Born of Colorado.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary and Peter Sr.; brothers, Joe, Eli, John, and Peter Jr.; and his sister, Catherine.

Goldie F. Esler
Goldie F. Esler, 97, SERVICES: Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. today at the Range Funeral Home in Virginia. Lyle Hietala will officiate. Visitation will be from noon until the service. Burial will be in Rauha Cemetery, Palo.

Goldie F. Esler, 97, of Palo, died Saturday, Dec. 11, 2004, at the White Community Hospital Skilled Nursing Facility in Aurora.

She was born Oct. 23, 1907, to Frank and Eva (Pettis) Mellen in Lewisville, Minn. She grew up and attended school in Lewisville. Goldie was united in marriage to Harold Esler on Sept. 16, 1926, in Bethel, Minn. Following marriage, the couple lived in various places until moving to Palo in 1948. She was a member of the Jehovah Witness.

Surviving are her two daughters, Peggy Compton of Circle Pines, Minn., Vivian (Keith) Trout of Meadowlands; two sons, David Esler of Rockford, Minn., and Dennis (Marlene) Esler of Palo; 26 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Anoma (Sam) Samlasky of Medelia, Minn.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harold; daughter, Elaine Radtke; son, Duane Esler; granddaughter, Linda Wandrus; grandson, Larry Compton; three sisters; three brothers.

Laverne Katheryn Chelesnik

Laverne Katheryn Chelesnik, 84, of Ely, died Sunday, Dec. 12, 2004, at the Ely Bloomenson Nursing Home.

She was born Jan. 23, 1920, in Ely, to Steven and Jennie (Antella) Moravitz. Laverne was a lifelong resident of Ely. She graduated from Ely Memorial High School in the class of 1938. Laverne married John Chelesnik on July 14, 1938, at St. Anthony’s Church in Ely. She enjoyed spending time on the lake and outdoors in Ely. Laverne was a homemaker, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

She is survived by her two sons, David (Laura), and John (Sandra), both of Ely; four grandchildren, Steven (Tamara) of Eden Prairie, Heather (Brad) Hren of Hermantown, Heidi (Sergio) Altimirano of Minneapolis, and Holly (Tim) Augustin of Blane; six great-grandchildren, Alexandra of Eden Prairie, Chase, Kiana and Kylee Hren of Hermantown, Sergio Altimirano of Minneapolis, and Sidney Augustin of Blane; two brothers, James (Violet) Moravitz of Ely and Gene (Sue) Morrow of Orinda, Calif.; sister, Nan Kantola of Conneaut, Ohio; sisters-in-law, Alice Moravitz and Lillian Sayovitz; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John, in 1981; her grandson, David Jr., in 1984; and three brothers, Lawrance, Bernard, and Robert Moravitz.

Debra Jo Burrell
Debra Jo Burrell, 48, SERVICES: Memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Rupp Funeral Home & Cremation Service Chapel in Chisholm, with the Rev. Robert Ierien of Faith Lutheran Church in Chisholm officiating. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service on Thursday. Inurnment will be in Canby Cemetery in Canby, Minn.

Debra Jo Burrell, 48, of Chisholm, died Sunday, Dec. 12, 2004, at her residence.

She was born March 10, 1956, in Ft. Leonard Wood, Mo., to Joseph E. and Dorothy E. (Rhea) Burrell. She was a 1974 graduate of Canby High School. She had been a Chisholm resident for more than 20 years.

Survivors include her brother, Scott (Cindy) Burrell of West Fargo, N.D.; sister, Kimberly (Kim) Jergenson of Marshall, Minn.; four nephews; one niece; numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Virginia B. Stenerson
Virginia B. Stenerson, 84, SERVICES: Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the Bauman-Cron Funeral Home Chapel in Virginia. Visitation will continue from noon until the 1 p.m. funeral services Friday at the First Covenant Church in Virginia. The Rev. Roger Johnson will officiate. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. Memorials are preferred. Family services provided by Bauman-Cron, a Bauman Family Funeral Home in Virginia. Virginia B. Stenerson, 84, lifelong resident of Virginia, passed into the gates of heaven on Dec. 13, 2004, at St. Mary’s Hospital, Duluth. She was born April 13, 1920, in Virginia to Charlie and Helga (Hoilien) Krusell. She was a Virginia High School graduate and married Aldon T. Stenerson on May 4, 1946, in Virginia. She was a homemaker, and worked at the Hegland Agency in Virginia in the 1970’s, until 1980 when she retired. She was an active member of First Covenant Church and Covenant Women Ministries. She loved time spent with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and friends, and will be missed a lot by all of them. Virginia was most known for her wool braided rugs and wonderful lefse.

She is survived by her children, Shirley (Dennis) Koski of Britt, Luann (Jerry) Rahnasto of Virginia, and Ron (Deb) Stenerson of Mountain Iron; eight grandchildren, Lynette, Brian, Danny, Scott, Missy, Chris, Keith and Jen; 10 great-grandchildren; a sister, Ruth Anderson of Champaign, Ill.; a brother, Charles (Virginia) Krusell of Edina, Minn.; and several nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband in 1977.

Adrian Martin Boldt
Adrian Martin Boldt, 86, SERVICES: Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Grace Lutheran Church, Hibbing. The Rev. Mark Palmer will officiate. Visitation will be in the Dougherty Funeral Home, from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 10 a.m. until service time in the church on Thursday. Military honors will be accorded by the V.F.W. Post 8510, with burial in the Maple Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers are his grandsons Gerald Pratt Jr., George Pratt, Joshuah Ricke, Adrian Smock, Jason Boldt and John O’Neil.

Adrian Martin Boldt, 86, Hibbing, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, Dec. 12, 2004, after losing his long battle with an extended illness.

Adrian Martin Boldt was born July 14, 1918 in Lake Itasca, Minn. He was a one of a kind husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. As a child, his family moved to Hibbing where he lived his entire life. He met his wife Eveline while working for her father’s business in Hibbing. He was drafted into the Army in May 1942 and honorably served his country during WW II. He married Eveline Eva Lubina on March 9, 1946. Adrian loved to hunt, fish, bowl and play cards. He was an avid country music fan who loved attending his daughter’s country music shows as well as going to bingo with his wife and children. Adrian became known as “the Buzzerman” for his enthusiastic pressing of the bell when anyone yelled Bingo.

His life was centered around loving, molding and teaching his children the importance of family unity. He loved to bounce his babies on his knee. He was a dedicated husband who always worked hard to take care of his wife and family. A strong man with a will to live, that kept himself and his family going throughout his extended illness. He loved and was loved by his family and friends and will forever be held close in the hearts of everyone who knew him.

He is survived by his wife Eveline Eva, a son Ben Boldt of Hibbing; four daughters, Bonnie (Gerald) Pratt and Gail (Terry) Ricke both of Hibbing, Alice E. (Donald) Infelise of Sumter, S.C., and Jane (Mike) Smock of Keewatin; grandchildren Jason (Samantha) Boldt, Tara Boldt, Heather (Mike Christianson) Frider, Gerald (Cheryl) Pratt, George (Stacy) Pratt, Christina (Jimmy Taylor) Infelise, Josh (Sue Carpenter) Ricke, Jessica (John) O’Neil and Adrian and Ariel Smock; great-grandchildren, Jamie, Amanda, Shad, Tamika, Taylor, Emily, Danielle, Jenny, Nicole, Justin, Jasmine, Travis and Ryan; brothers Wayne Boldt and Claire Boldt; sisters, Freda Sanders, Lois (Dale) Skramstad, Faith (Louie) Sigourney; as well as man other relatives and friends.

Preceding him in death were his parents; four brothers; a sister; and four great-grandchildren.

Stella Lewandowski
Stella Lewandowski, 82, SERVICES: Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday at the Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Virginia. The Rev. John O’Donnell will be the celebrant. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery in Virginia. Arrangements are with the Range Funeral Home in Virginia.

Stella Lewandowski, 82, of Virginia, died Sunday, Dec. 12, 2004, at her home.

Stella was born on May 8, 1922, to Walter and Clementine Scewczeck in Poland where she grew up. Stella was united in marriage to John Lewandowski on Nov. 23, 1947, in Germany. They immigrated to the United States in 1951. Stella was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Virginia. She enjoyed visits from her family. Her family was blessed by the love she gave them.

Survivors include two sons, Chester (Joan) Lewandowski of Mountain Iron and Ted Lewandowski of Virginia; three daughters, Theresa (Steve) Hammer of Blaine, Minn., Mary (Kermit) Nelson of Duluth, Minn., and Chris (Doug) Ziegler of Champlain, Minn.; grandchildren, Terry Jr., Melissa, Trevor, Nathan, Stefanie, Natalie, Brittany, Philip, Andrew, Hannah and Kathy; four great-grandchildren, Spencer, Zachary, Elijah, and Lanae; along with relatives in Poland.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John in 1997; and her parents.

William ‘Bill’ Yadlosky
William ‘Bill’ Yadlosky, 74, SERVICES: A Mass of Christian Burial for Bill will be held on at 11 a.m. Friday, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Ely. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. The Rev. James Scheuer will be presiding. Burial will follow in Ely Cemetery. William “Bill” Yadlosky, 74, of Ely, died peacefully with his family by his side, on Sunday Dec. 12, 2004 at Ely Bloomenson Hospital.

Bill was born on June 27, 1930 in Ely to Paul and Antonia (Mayerle) Yadlosky. He was a graduate of Ely Memorial High School in the class of 1948. In 1954 he and Jane Zeleznikar were united in marriage in Ely. Bill was a lifelong resident of Ely where he worked for 34 years at Reserve Mining as a diesel mechanic until his retirement. Bill was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, AARP, Ely Senior Citizens, and Vice President of The Croation Fraternal Union Lodge No. 355.

He is survived by his wife Jane; daughters: Valerie (George) Osaben of Ely, Sandra (Dennis) Tesch of Renton, Wash., and Mary Jane (Timothy) Ciriacy of Cloquet; two sisters: Ruth Zaverl of Ely and Barb (Ed) Buck of Babbitt; three brothers: Paul (Shirley) of Desert Hot Springs, Calif., Larry (Janet) of Duluth, and John (Sharon) of Ely; six grandchildren: Aimee Osaben, Brian, Laura, and Carmen Tesch, Michael and David Ciriacy; and an aunt, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.
