Dorothy A. LeClair, 87, of Virginia died Sunday, March 6, 2005, at the Virginia Convalescent Center.

She was born May 11, 1917, in Soudan, the daughter of George and Ethel (Prout) Wasson. Dorothy graduated from Virginia High School in 1935 and later graduated from the Virginia Junior College. On Jan. 23, 1943, she married Lawrence LeClair. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Virginia and loved fishing, sewing, ceramics and crafts. Dorothy’s greatest joy in life was spending time with her family.

She is survived by her children, Kathryn (Frank) Barboni of Virginia, Susan (Joe) Heaney of Corvallis, Ore., David (Donna) LeClair of Circle Pines, Minn., Roberta (Duane) Nelson of Virginia and Mary (Frank) Oaks of Aitkin, Minn.; grandchildren, Peter (Tammy) Barboni, Paula (Rick) Trunzo, Bonnie Oaks, Luke Oaks, Ryan Parks, Amanda (Josh) Wilson and Maia LeClair; great-grandchildren, Michael Barboni and Lydia Oaks-Anderson; sisters, Margaret Wasson and Norma Grulke, both of Virginia; and nephews, Paul (Patti) Grulke, Jerry LeClair and Alan (Shelby) LeClair.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband, Lawrence; an infant son, Richard John; and grandsons, Anthony John and Charles Anthony Barboni.

Molio C. Pazzelli
Molio C. Pazzelli, 92, SERVICES: Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home, 1000 S. Union Ave., Alliance, Ohio, 44601. The Rev. Michael Seifert of Regina Coeli Catholic Church will officiate. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial, with military honors provided by the Alliance American Legion Post 166 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1036, will follow at Highland Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to VFW Post 1036, 1036 E. State St. or to American Legion Post 166, 141 W. Main St., both in Alliance, Ohio.

Molio C. Pazzelli, 92, of Alliance, died on Monday, March 7, 2005, at Alliance Community Hospital.

He was born Feb. 20, 1913, in Virginia, Minn., and had lived in Alliance most of his life. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Marine Corps and was a member of the VFW 1036, and a 50-year member of the American Legion 166.

He retired from Transue & Williams Metal Stamping Plant where he was a die setter and was a member of the International Brotherhood of Blacksmiths, Drop Forgers and Helpers. He was also a member of the Christopher Columbus Society.

He is survived by a daughter, Pamela (Bob) Richardson of New Franklin; two sons, David (Trudy) Pazzelli of Barto, Pa., and Jeffery (Diana) Pazzelli of Alliance; grandchildren, Scott, Todd and Kent Richardson, Matthew, Derek and Jeffery Jr. Pazzelli, Michele Steed, and Jason and Eric Wentzel; great-grandchildren, Joseph, Brandie, Cruz and Mallory Richardson and Victoria, Megan, Kristina and Logan Pazzelli; four sisters, Virginia Rouleau of Virginia, Amelia Zaitz of Chisholm, Rose Hanson of Minneapolis, Minn., and Isabelle Stoia of Alliance; a brother, Bruno Pazzelli of Virginia; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Arlene D. (Stanfield) Pazzelli, on June 10, 2003, (they were married on July 27, 1940); his parents, Pasquale and Maria (Rossi) Pazzelli; two sisters, Jess Edwards and Dena Workman; and a brother, Victor Pazzelli.

Marjorie E. Wilkinson
Marjorie E. Wilkinson, 96, SERVICES: Family graveside services will be held at a later date at the Cook Community Cemetery. Arrangements are with the Mlaker Funeral Home in Cook.

Marjorie E. Wilkinson, 96, of Cook, died Saturday, March 5, 2005, at the Cook Community Nursing Home

She was born Aug. 23, 1908, at Cook, to Joseph and Edna (Ellsworth) Wilkinson. She grew up in Cook, where she lived most of her life. She graduated from the Virginia High School and the Business School of Duluth, and had been employed for the Minnesota Highway Department for several years. She owned and operated North American Evergreen Company of Cook from 1942 until it was destroyed by fire in 1995. She had enjoyed flowers and yard work, which was shown through her always orderly and lovely yard. She had been residing at the Cook Nursing Home since early 2003.

She is survived by one sister, Geraldine “Geri” Wilkinson of Cook ; one niece, Muriel (David) Wamstad of Roseville, Minn.; along with numerous grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Ray Wilkinson, and a sister, Veva Johnson.

Kathryn A. Aldrich
Kathryn A. Aldrich, 82, SERVICES: Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in Resurrection Catholic Church in Eveleth. The Rev. Joel Hastings will officiate. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday with a 7 p.m. prayer service at Cron-Sheehy Funeral Home in Eveleth, and will continue one hour prior to the service Thursday at the church. Burial will be in Oneota Cemetery in Duluth. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.

Kathryn A. Aldrich, 82, of Eveleth, died Sunday, March 6, 2005, at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Duluth.

She was born March 29, 1922, in Duluth, to Mike (Mile) and Lucille (Lusa) Majerovic Rukavina. She graduated from Morgan Park High School. Kathryn was married to William E. Aldrich on July 12, 1947, at St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Church in Duluth. They made their home in Duluth for many years and moved to Eveleth in 1972. Kathryn was a homemaker, a member of Resurrection Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters of the America’s Court St. Margaret 1888 and the Slovenian Women’s Union. She enjoyed baking, sewing and spending time with her family and grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband, William E.; son, Bill (Marilyn) of Tulsa, Okla.; daughters, Jane (Michael) Killian of Eveleth, Mary Ann (Dell) Bernard and Nancy Aldrich (fiancé, Scott Peterson), both of Duluth; six grandchildren; two sisters, Dolly (Jim) Foucault of Duluth, and Lucy (Roy) Nordenstam of California; two brothers, Robert (Jackie) Rukavina of Duluth, and Steve (Caroline) Rukavina of Florida; and numerous nephews and nieces.

She was preceded in death by two sisters; a brother; and her parents.

Helen E. Rasmussen
Helen E. Rasmussen, 88, SERVICES: Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in Cron-Sheehy Funeral Home in Eveleth. Funeral services will be held Friday in Brookings, S.D.

Helen E. (Tonsager) Rasmussen, 88, of Eveleth, died Sunday, March 6, 2005, at the Virginia Convalescent Center.

She was born Jan. 18, 1917, in White, S.D., to Walter and Alva (Cyule) Green. Helen was married to Adolph Tonsager on Sept. 16, 1943, in Brookings, S.D. They made their home in Brookings, where Helen was a homemaker. They moved to Arlington, S.D., in 1967 and Helen went to work as a baker at the City Cafe for 27 years. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and Edgar L. Herrick Auxiliary Post 42, both in Arlington.

She is survived by an adopted son, Stanley Tonsager of Mt. Joy, Pa.; a daughter, Stella (Joe) Kotnik of Eveleth; grandchildren, Jason, Danica, Shane and Kristina Kotnik and Andrew Tonsager; a sister, Clara Norris of Arlington, S.D.; numerous nephews, nieces, extended family and many friends at Willow Wood Assisted Living Residence and the Virginia Convalescent Center.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Adolph, in 1977; her second husband, Art Thorsheim, in 1981; her third husband, Jay Rasmussen, in 1992; an infant son, Edward; a grandson, Stanley Tonsager Jr.; brothers, George, Martin, Fremont, Irvin, William and Herman Green; sisters, Beulah Betts, Adelaide Prussman, and Violet Bossingham; and her parents.

Alma K. Maack
Alma K. Maack, 81, SERVICES: Funeral 2 p.m. Saturday at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Babbitt. The Rev. Charles Barnes will officiate. Visitation 12:45 p.m. until service. Spring burial will be at Argo Cemetery, Babbitt. Memorials are preferred to the Babbitt Evangelical Lutheran Church Building Fund. Alma K. Maack, 81, of Babbitt was called home to her Lord on Wednesday, March 2, 2005, while vacationing in Yuma, Ariz.

She was born Oct. 3, 1923, in Fergus Falls, Minn., to Charles and Bertha (Lekve) Landberg. She attended Fergus Falls High School, graduating in 1942. She married Harold Maack on June 7, 1944, in Fergus Falls. They farmed near in Elizabeth, Minn., before moving to Babbitt in 1956.

Alma was a homemaker who loved to cook and bake, supplying her family with holiday lefse. After raising her three daughters she provided daycare and light housekeeping for several area families. Alma was a charter member of Babbitt Evangelical Lutheran Church, where she was involved with ladies aid, was a sexton and taught Sunday school. She most recently attended Gloria De Cristo Lutheran Church in Yuma, Ariz. Her hospitality and care touched many lives. She volunteered at Ely-Bloomenson Hospital and Nursing Home, was a member of the Babbitt Senior Center, delivered Meals on Wheels, served as an election judge, was active in the AEOA program and willingly helped the community, neighbors and friends.

Alma often entertained family and friends, especially enjoying the grandchildren for overnight camping weekends. She spent many hours walleye fishing on Birch Lake with Harold. Her knitting skills kept many supplied with afghans, scarves, mittens, hats and slippers. Upon retirement she and Harold became Arizona snowbirds, enjoying the warm weather and spending time with old and new friends, playing cards and planning potlucks.

She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Harold; her children, Karen (Tim) Younggren of Duluth, Pam Johnson of Embarrass and Susan (Brian) Maki of Ely; six grandchildren, Kelly (Brett) Larson, Richard (Jolene) Johnson, Scott (Danya) Johnson, Stephanie Johnson, Anna (Colin) Yahnke and Christine Maki; seven great-grandsons, Trevor, Josh, Austin, Brandon, Jesse, Tristan and Tucker; her sister, Irene Siems, of Fergus Falls; several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Alma was preceded in death by her parents; an infant son; and three brothers, Carl, Charles and John “Sonny.”

Olga Zastrow
Olga Zastrow, 95, SERVICES: Funeral 1 p.m. Monday at Grace Lutheran Church in Ely. Visitation one hour prior to service. In lieu of lfowers, memorials are preferred to Grace Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Superior, Wis. Arrangements by Thompson-Hegstrom Funeral Home of Superior.

Olga Zastrow, 95, of Ely died Monday, March 7, 2005, in the Ely Bloomenson Hospital.

She was born in Borea, Wis., on Aug. 1, 1909, to Henry and Lena Brevik. She had lived in Superior until 1951, moving to Hibbing, staying there until moving to Duluth in 1960. She then moved to Babbitt in 1979, residing there until moving to Ely in 2004. Olga had worked at the First Lutheran Church in Duluth, and at the coffee shop in St. Luke’s Hospital until retiring in 1976. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Ely.

She is survived by a sister, Mildred Earhart, of New Brighton, Minn.; a son-in-law, Robert Olsen, of Babbitt; five grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; daughters, Jean Hunter and Corrine Olsen; and sisters, Signe, Helga and Caroline Brevik.

Roy Arthur Koski
Roy Arthur Koski, 77, SERVICES: Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at the Range Funeral Home in Hibbing. Captain Terry Selvage will officiate. Visitation will be from noon until the services Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery.

Roy Arthur Koski, 77, of Hibbing (Janet Lake) died Thursday, March 10, 2005, at Fairview University Medical Center-Mesabi in Hibbing.

He was born March 17, 1927, to Arthur and Hilma (Haikio) Koski in Chicago. The family moved to the Iron Range shortly after the Great Depression began. Roy became deaf as a young child, but his disability never prevented him from enjoying a variety of activities. He attended the Fairbault School for the Deaf, and he learned his trade as a carpenter, working with his father and brother on residential and commercial projects for several years. His hobbies included hunting and fishing with his cousins, Arvo and Reino Huhta of Embarrass; photography, and flying small aircraft. His quick smile and unquenchable spirit of fun will be greatly missed.

Surviving are his three sisters, Beatrice Helstrom of Huntington Beach, Calif., Shirley Sinnott of Chisholm, and Charlotte Koski of Minneapolis; brother, Raymond Koski of Hibbing (Janet Lake); several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Arthur in 1980; and his mother, Hilma in 1990.

Lewis R. ‘Lewie’ Lohn
Lewis R. ‘Lewie’ Lohn, 64, SERVICES: Funeral 2 p.m. Friday at Calvary Lutheran Church in Orr. The Rev. Arthur Dale will be the officiant. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Mlaker Funeral Home in Cook. Military honors will be accorded by the combined Honor Guards of the Cook VFW Post 1757 and the Orr American Legion Post 480. Spring interment will be in the Willow Valley Township Cemetery.

Lewis R. Lohn, 64, of Gheen, died unexpectedly Tuesday, March 15, 2005, while timber cruising for the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, a job he loved, near the Orr area.

He was born July 2, 1940, at Fosston, Minn., the son of Lewis E. and Sophie (Bjella) Lohn. He grew up in Fosston, and served a tour of duty with the Army. After his honorable discharge, he graduated from the University of Minnesota, and started working for the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources in 1968. He was positioned at Warroad and Aitkin, before being transferred to Orr in 1976. He was united in marriage to Mary L. Christensen on April 3, 1981, and they moved to Gheen in 1982, where they since have resided. Lewie was a member of Calvary Lutheran of Orr, the Orr American Legion Post 480 and its Honor Guard, past member of the Willow Valley Town Board, Lifetime member of the NRA, and belonged to the Minnesota Trapper Association.

He loved his job as a forester with DNR, and was an avid outdoorsman. He had enjoyed hunting, trapping, guns and gun collecting, deer hunting, and yellow lab dogs, including his good dog Peaches. He liked his Friday nights out with the crew at Boisjolie’s in Gheen.

He is survived by his wife, Mary; three daughters, Amy (Jason) Soma of Dilworth, Minn., Rachael (Bob) Johnson of Orr and Sarah Lohn of Orr; a sister, Jeanine (Larry) Suss, of Lincolnwood, Ill., four grandchildren, Joshua, Isaiah, and Zachary Soma and Savannah Johnson, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Sophie in 2003, and his father, Lewis E., in 1998.

Mary Ann Boitz
Mary Ann Boitz, 82, SERVICES: A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Kerntz Brothers Funeral Chapel. Deacon Greg Hutar will officiate. Mary Ann Boitz, 82, of Ely died Tuesday, March 15, 2005, at the Clayridge Assisted Living Facility in Biwabik.

She was born July 10, 1922, in Ely to Anton and Justina (Rutar) Struna. Mary Ann was a member of the Ely Bloomenson Hospital Auxiliary, St. Anthony’s Catholic Church and the Church Circle. She enjoyed gardening, baking, sewing, traveling, and most of all time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Mary Ann is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, William; her children, Bill (Diane) of South St. Paul, Nancy (Lyle) Alexson of Ely and James of Biwabik; grandchildren, Tammy (Jason) Bouchard, Marie (Jim) Rude, Michele (Bruce) Haag, Nichole Boitz, Melissa (Scott) Magnuson; great-grandchildren, Payton, Dylan, Justyne, Logan, Hannah, Noah, Emma, Olivia, Sophia and Lydia; brother, Joe (Lois) Struna of Ely; sisters, Molly Lohse of Alexandria and Tina (George) Bahem of New York; many nieces, nephews, friends and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings: Anton, twin sister Christine and Ann.

Ralph Axelsen
Ralph Axelsen, SERVICES: A service to celebrate the life of Ralph DuWayne Axelsen, 80, of Hoyt Lakes, will be 10:30 a.m. Friday in Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Aurora. The Rev. Elton Brown will officiate. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Military honors are accorded by the Aurora/Hoyt Lakes Color Guard. Memorials are preferred to the American Cancer Society or the White Community Hospital Eden Fund.

Ralph DuWayne Axelsen died Monday, March 14, 2005, in the White Community Hospital in Aurora.

He was born on Sept. 22, 1924, in the small Danish community of Withee, Wis., to Henry and Othelia (Matson) Axelsen.

He graduated from Central High School in Superior, Wis., in 1942.

He attended Superior Vocational Trade School until he entered the Army Air Corps. He received a second lieutenant commission, was promoted to first lieutenant and served at various B-17 bases in the United States and the Philippines. He attended Yale University as part of the Army Air Force’s Technical Training Command. He was stationed in Japan with the 8th Fighter Squadron, 49th Fighter Group supervising maintenance of aircraft armament bombsights, rockets and autopilots. Following his discharge in 1946 he remained in the Air Force Reserve, retiring with the rank of captain in 1964.

He married Marjorie Diviney in 1945. They lived in Superior and Hoyt Lakes. He worked as an electrician and retired from Erie Mining Co. in 1986. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Longshoremen and United Steelworkers Local #4108. He was a lifetime member of Timothy Robinson VFW Post #8144.

He led a very active life and enjoyed a variety of hobbies. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, gardener, carpenter, woodworker and cook. He enjoyed all outdoor activities especially picking berries and walking with his dog. His life revolved around his family and he delighted in his grandson, Hunter.

Survivors include his son, James Axelsen of Hoyt Lakes; daughters, Patricia Axelsen of Aurora and Cheryl (Dale Hinsz) Jones of Remer; grandson, Hunter Axelsen of Hoyt Lakes; sister, Petranella (Carl) Bergstrom of Fon duLac, Wis.; several nieces and nephews; his faithful companion, Shania.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Othelia.
