Lois A. Miller
Lois A. Miller, 78, formerly of Two Harbors, died Monday, Dec. 31 in Glenwood, Iowa.

She was born Au. 13, 1934 to Ernst and Marjorie Pontow in Hastings, Iowa. She moved to Two Harbors with her family when she was 14, graduated from Two Harbors High School in 1952 and married Robert D. Miller June 12, 1954. Lois was employed by Lake Superior School District for 28 years working as a school secretary at the John A. Johnson Elementary, Minnehaha Middle School and North Shore Elementary. She later worked at Irresistible Ink in Two Harbors. She was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church of Two Harbors, its Naomi Circle and the social concerns committee.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Robert in 1995; a son Bradley in 1977; aunt Vivian Priest; sister Betty Nicholson in 1995; and nieces Kathy Skoog Larson, Nancy Skoog and Jana Wick.

Lois is survived by her son Mitch (Robin) Miller of Malvern, Iowa; grandsons Brad and Matt of Malvern; a great-grandson, Christian James Miller; a sister Jane (Donald) Wick of Castle Danger; AFS son Kazuki (Eriko) Mori of Kyoto, Japan; and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan.5 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Two Harbors. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery at a later date.

Annie Christina Bergman
Annie Christina Bergman passed away peacefully on Jan. 7 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Duluth, Minn.

Annie was born to Paul and Christina (Lang) Ganser on May 19, 1926, in Ockstadt, Germany. As a young girl, Annie, along with her older sister and two younger brothers, spent many happy days playing in the Ockstadt castle courtyard and around the city tower. Annie attended German college, becoming a licensed beautician at age 16 and then, working and managing various salons until age 21 when she came to the United States. Although her entire teen years were during the war, it was World War II which brought Annie and Dean together. Engaged for two years, Dean and Annie were married in Two Harbors on Flag Day, June 14, 1947, and had, until Dean's death in 2001, 54 good years together.

Annie was a lifelong member of the VFW Auxiliary Post 4454 and a past member of the Women of the Moose, the Knife River Valley Club (Felix) and the Knife River Valley Friendship Club.

Annie was proud of completing naturalization courses at Central High School, graduating and becoming a U.S. citizen in 1950. She took very seriously her responsibility of being a good citizen and tried to do good for others. Annie was an excellent cook, enjoyed polka, big band and classical music, dancing, and both indoor and outdoor gardening. Above all else, Annie loved her children, and with greatest pride, loved her grandchildren.

Annie was preceded in death by her parents, husband Dean, brothers Otmar and Franz, a young sister and baby brother.

Annie is survived by her children Jo-Ann (David) Rossetter, Richard Bergman, Paul Bergman and Clyde (Carolyn) Bergman; grandchildren, Matthew (Laura) and Christina Rossetter, Reed, Jim, Sara and Jessica Bergman; sister Emilie Brum of Hosbach, Germany; nieces and nephews, Edwin (Ursula and Andrea) Brum, Sylvia, Christine, Roswitha, Regina, Otmar, Jr., Mike, Roger, Gary and Kevin Ganser; and several great and great-great nieces and nephews.

There will be a gathering of family and friends from 9 a.m. until the 10 a.m. memorial service, Saturday, Jan. 12, at the Cremation Society of Minnesota, 4100 Grand Avenue, Duluth. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.

Eric (Boomhauer) Andrew Nelson
Eric (Boomhauer) Andrew Nelson, 45, of Two Harbors sadly left us on Thursday, March 7. Eric was born on Oct. 3, 1967.

He graduated from Two Harbors High School. He was employed by friends Neil and Lori at Service Master and the laundromat.

Eric loved his land, whether he was with friends or hunting on it with friends, such as Mark. He was the kind of guy that would go out of his way to help any way he could. He was a loyal friend.

Eric was preceded in death by his mother, Betty (Waldron) Nelson.

He is survived by his beloved father Robert (Bob) Nelson of Two Harbors, his sister Lisa (Dave) Thompson of Brookston, Minn., many aunts, uncles, cousins; sweetheart, Deb Hoiland, and best friend and roommate Kevin and Melisa and their four- legged friends.

A celebration of life will be held at the American Legion Post 109 on Saturday, March 23 at 3 p.m.

Wallace "Wally" Tikkanen
Wallace W. Tikkanen, 74, of Finland, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 27, at his home.

He was born on January 18, 1938, to Wayne and Arlene (Nikolai) Tikkanen in Two Harbors.

Wally was an entrepreneur starting in his younger years having a riding stable, gravel hauling, logging, and trapping businesses. He worked 30 years for Erie Mining Co., sold snowmobiles, ran campgrounds, and operated the Four Season Supper Club for over 26 years.

Wally loved his family unconditionally and would do anything for them. His heart broke when he lost Jamie, but was double blessed with her son Sully. He saw untold words in other's eyes, especially in the expressive eyes of Sully and Hunter. His spirit was strong and will always be an active part of our lives.

Wally is preceded in death by his parents, Wayne and Arlene Tikkanen; brother, Kenneth Tikkanen; sister, Shirley Beck; his beloved granddaughter Jamie Tikkanen; brother-in-law, Clair Nelson; sister-in-law Judy Moody; nephew Jeff Weeks; and mother and father-in-law, Carol and Dale Banks.

Constance Margaret Wilson
Constance Margaret Wilson, 92, of Silver Bay, died Tuesday, June 4, in Lake View Memorial Hospital.

She was born November 10, 1920, to Walter and Margaret (Kowalski) Gralewski in Duluth, and lived on the family homesteaded in Cramer, where she grew up. Connie attended schools in Two Harbors, Cramer, and Finland. She married William Wilson on January 12, 1952, and they lived in Two Harbors until moving to Silver Bay in 1955. Connie was a homemaker through the years and was a member of St Mary’s Catholic Church and was a past President of the American Legion Auxiliary.

She and her dear friends, Earldyne and Donna, “The Three Stooges of Silverpointe Apartments,” later joined by JoAnn, spent many evenings watching The Waltons, Little House on the Prairie, Minnesota Twins, Vikings, and Wild games on Earldyne’s sofa. Her family was her greatest joy. Her gentle ways and guiding spirit will be with us always.

Connie was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband, William Wilson in 1996, brothers, John and Jim Gralewski, and great-granddaughters, Angela and Emma.

She will be sadly missed by her son, Bill (Deb) Wilson of Two Harbors; daughters, Mary (Tom) Ferguson of Cottage Grove, Virginia (Arne) Keifenheim of St. Francis, Connie (Bob) Neborak of Waconia, and Sharon (Dave) Bishop of Owatonna; grandchildren, Kristin, Eric, Katie, Brad, Brian, Andy, Julie, Troy, Billy, Janie, Brandon, Mandy, Codie, and Samantha ; great-grandchildren, Matthew, Daniel, Ryan, Graham, Charlie, Miah, and Dominic.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, June 7, at St Mary’s Catholic Church in Silver Bay. Burial will be in Sawtooth Mountain Cemetery.

Todd A. Davis
Todd A. Davis, age 44 of Cloquet, passed away June 18, 2013.

He was born August 3, 1968 in Duluth to Anthony and JoAnn (Wycoff) Davis.

Todd enjoyed fishing, hunting, pow wows and loved being outdoors.

When in high school he played football, basketball and hockey. When he was younger, Todd spent many winters working the ski hills of Lutsen Mountain.

He also ventured into the life of casino worker and worked as a security officer, vault cashier and blackjack dealer. He had many different jobs, all of which he enjoyed. Todd is an enrolled member of the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe.

Todd was well-liked, easy to get along with and his friends refer to him as "the most amazing man", "polite", and "having a gentle soul".

Todd died as a result of his long battle with alcoholism. He will be sadly missed by all his family and all those who ever knew him.

Todd is survived by his parents, Cliff and JoAnn Struve of Silver Bay and Anthony J. Davis of Onamia, Minn.; three sons, Tyler Davis of Andover, Minn., Trevor Spry of Sand stone, Minn., and Rylan Davis of Silver Bay; siblings, Gina Benson of Detroit Lakes, Minn., Mike Struve (Teresa) of Largo, Fla., Pam (John) Feldt of Silver Bay, Paula (Mark) Goutermont of Silver Bay and Matthew (Leanne) Struve of Ramsey, Minn.; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Visitation was Monday, June 24, 2013 from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. memorial service at Nelson Funeral Care in Cloquet. Memorials are referred to the Outreach Center in Cloquet.

James G. Baxter
James G. Baxter, 72, SERVICES: A memorial celebration of Jim’s life will be held Friday at Washington Auditorium in Ely, at 6 p.m. for visiting, with services at 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to be sent to the family. James G. Baxter Jr., 72, of Ely, went to be with Jesus on Monday, Feb. 27, 2006.

Jim was born in the Twin Cities on Nov. 6, 1933, to the Rev. James and Helen Baxter. He graduated from St. Cloud State University in the 1950s. In 1992 Jim retired from his teaching career, but continued coaching high school hockey through 2006 for more than 50 years of coaching. He was a part of young people’s lives at Minnehaha Academy, West, Washburn and Southwest High Schools in Minneapolis and Ely High School. He moved to Ely in 1995 fulltime and loved his log cabin on the lake which he built in the late 1960s. Jim touched many lives everywhere, loved people and went the extra mile to help those who needed him. His greatest desire was to have everyone spend eternity with him and his savior, Jesus Christ.

Survivors include his wife, Diane; three daughters, Barb (Tim) Cooper of Isabella, Sherri (Terry) Miller of Faribault and Laurie (Joe) Juranitch of St. Louis Park; four grandchildren, April and Stephanie Cooper and Michelle and Noah Miller; brother, Richard (Carolee) of Minneaplis; sister, Joan (Ben) Larson of Ely; and many nephews, nieces and cousins.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. James and Helen, and two sisters, Eva Mae and Grace Ann.

Owen Fenske
Owen Fenske, 87, SERVICES: Memorial services at 11 a.m. Friday, March 3, at Kerntz Brothers Funeral Chapel in Ely. The Rev. Bill Fossum will officiate. Owen Fenske, 87, of Ely passed away Sunday, Feb. 26, 2006, at the Ely Bloomenson Community Nursing Home.

He was born on March 29, 1918, the son of Fred W.A. and Hilia (Laager) Fenske in McAllen, Texas. Owen served with the U.S. Army Infantry in World War II and was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2717. He worked many odd jobs in the Ely area, including road construction. Owen lived with his significant other, Mabel Thompson, for 40 years until her passing on May 18, 1992.

He is survived by Mabel’s children, Nellie Robich of Ely and Charles “Chuck” (Mary) Thompson of Elko, Nev.; sister-in-law, Fannie Fenske of Ely; and several nieces and nephews.

Owen was preceded in death by his parents, brother Howard, sister Lola Burns Hager and Mabel’s daughter, Alice Hoover.

Jack Edward Frahm
Jack Edward Frahm, 62, SERVICES: Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Chisholm, with Rev. Jack Harris of Wesley United Methodist Church of Hibbing officiating. Visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. until the time of the service. Private family inurnment will be at a later date at Lakeview Cemetery in Buhl. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Minnesota Deer Hunters Association, Sturgeon River Youth Chapter, or to the donor’s choice. Jack Edward Frahm, 62, of Side Lake and formerly of Buhl, died Saturday, Feb. 25, 2006, in Itasca County from injuries sustained in a tragic snowmobile accident.

He was born May 28, 1943 in Pontiac, Mich., to Ralph E. and Bernice L. (Whipple) Frahm. He was a 1961 graduate of Frazee High School in Frazee, Minn., and received his associate in arts degree from Mesabi Junior College in Virginia. He had been a longtime Buhl resident, prior to moving to Side Lake in 1996. He was a U.S. Navy veteran.

Jack was united in marriage on June 8, 1968, in Buhl to Delores M. Johnson. He worked as an electrician for the DM &IR Railroad from 1968 until 1978 when he started JF Realty Frahm & Associates in Hibbing. He was a member of the former Bennett-Bukovich American Legion Post 246 of Buhl, the former Buhl Moose Lodge, Hibbing Rotary Club, the Eagles Lodge of Hibbing, the Algonquin Club of Hibbing, Hematite Lodge 274, AF & AM, of Chisholm, the York Rite Commandery 77 of Duluth, the AAD Temple of the Shrine of Duluth, the Range Shrine Cycle Patrol and was a life member of the National Rifle Association and the Minnesota Deer Hunters Association. He served as a city councilman and as mayor of Buhl and was a founding member of the Buhl Water Co. Jack was an avid outdoorsman and loved riding his Harley. Jack was known for his generosity and his love of family and friends. He will be forever missed.

Survivors include his wife, DeeDee; children, Mark (Randa Mattila) and Stacey (Brian Keyes) Frahm, both of Buhl; grandchildren, Alexis Frahm-Centers of Fargo, N.D., Christopher, Jessi and Casey Mattila; great-grandson, Isaiah Mattila; brother, Robert (Betty Lou) Frahm of Minneapolis; sister, Arlene (Arnie) Valentin of Park Rapids, Minn.; several nieces and nephews; his hunting companions, Tanner and Sadie.

He was preceded in death by his parents and infant brother, Harold.

Robert Irwin
Robert Irwin, 76, SERVICES: Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Thursday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Mountain Iron. The Rev. John Doyle will be celebrant. Visitation from 10 a.m. to the time of service. Spring burial in Argo Cemetery in Babbitt. Arrangements by Range Funeral Home in Virginia.

Robert Irwin, 76, of Virginia, formerly of Babbitt, died Monday, Feb. 27, 2006, at the Virginia Convalescent Center.

He was born Jan. 23, 1930, to James and Mary (Carpon) Irwin in Virginia, where he grew up and attended high school. He was united in marriage to Louise Mary DeYoung on Sept. 2, 1950, in Virginia. They resided in Hibbing, Minneapolis and Babbitt until returning to Virginia, where they currently resided. Robert was a Korean War veteran, serving in the U.S. Army. He was employed by Unisys Corp. in Minneapolis for 23 years until his retirement.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Louise Mary of Virginia; three sons, Russell (Leslie) Irwin of State Line, Nev., Roger (Linda) Irwin of Virginia and Dale (Lisa) Irwin of Minneapolis; seven grandchildren, Danielle, Roger Jr., Troy, Ashlee, Haylee, Jake and Tanya; and a great-granddaughter, Ruby Kay.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Kay Marie Schaefer; brother, Bruno Ballintini; and sister, Germaine Greenwald.

Nancy J. Marsh
Nancy J. Marsh, 74, SERVICES: Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Friday at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Virginia, with the Rev. John O’Donnell as celebrant. Visitation for one hour before the service. Burial in Calvary Cemetery in Virginia. Arrangements by Landmark Funeral Home in Virginia.

Nancy J. Marsh, 74, of Virginia, died Sunday, Feb. 26, 2006, at the Virginia Convalescent Center.

She was born Aug. 22, 1931, in Hibbing to Andrew and Bessie (Perpich) Tomasich and grew up there. She had been a Virginia resident since 1952. Nancy was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Virginia and was a homemaker.

She is survived by one daughter, Karen Marsh of Phoenix, Ariz.; two sons, Michael (Sandra) Marsh of Grand Rapids and Randy (Dawn) Marsh of St. Michael, Minn.; six grandchildren, Dustin Thayer, Jennifer Thayer, Andrew Marsh, Dylan Marsh, Jason (Katie) Marsh and Jeremy (Brea) Marsh; and two great-grandchildren, Dallas Durst and Brady Marsh.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Gary Marsh; and one brother, Andrew Tomasich Jr.
