Charles R. Hoffrogge
Charles Richard Hoffrogge, age 51, of St. James, died Tuesday, August 13, 2002, at Immanuel-St. Joseph Hospital in Mankato.
A funeral service was held Friday, August 16, at 11 a.m. at the First Lutheran Church with Rev. K. Christian Johnson and Rev. Martin Overson officiating. Visitation was Thursday, August 15, from 4 to 8 p.m. and 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. at the Sturm Funeral Home in St. James, and one hour prior to the service at the church.
Charles "Chuck" Richard Hoffrogge, the son of Siebo William and Gladys Annastacia (Harold) Hoffrogge was born on October 17, 1950, in Springfield, MN. He graduated from Walnut Grove High School and received his accounting training at Jackson and Willmar Technical Colleges. Chuck was baptized at the Revere Lutheran Church of Revere, and he was confirmed in Christian faith at the English Lutheran Church of Walnut Grove. On June 5, 1971, Chuck was united in marriage to Bonita "Bonni" Jean Coleman at the St. James Methodist Church in St. James. They made their home in Willmar, Marshall and Walnut Grove before returning to St. James as manager of Hardee's, to be near his grandchildren. He was currently working as a pressman at Brown Printing in Waseca. Chuck enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping and stock car races, was a handyman in everything he did, and loved being with his children and grandchildren.
Chuck is survived by his wife, Bonni Hoffrogge of St. James, two daughters, Kristi Anne and husband, Terry Rust of St. James, and Kari Elaine and husband, Jason Wensauer of Mountain Lake; 5 grandchildren, James Faulkner, Paige and Addam Rust, and Brittaney and Kaytlyn Wensauer; 2 sisters, Darlene and husband, Stuart Therkelsen of Jeffers, and Monica and husband, Gary Geihl of Hanley Falls; nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister.
Casketbearers were Kim Christianson, Brent Coleman, Chistopher Curry, Michael Geihl, Curt Baarson, and Shannon Sanchez. Honorary casketbearers were Brittaney Wensauer, James Faulkner, Kaytlyn Wensauer, Paige Rust, and Addam Rust.

Lyle Williams
Lyle Williams passed away Tuesday, October 8, 2002 at the St. Cloud Community Hospital.
A funeral service will be Friday, October 11, at 11 a.m. at Vinje Lutheran Church in Willmar. Visitation is Thursday, October 10, from 5-8 p.m. at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home and will continue one hour prior to the service.
Memorials can be sent to 249 Cambridge Lane, Willmar, MN 56201.

John "Jack" Berdell
John (Jack) Kingsley Berdell, 70, of Sarasota, Fl, formerly of Odin, died December 27, 2002.
John (Jack) was born to Frank and Laura Berdell, on October 2, 1932 in Odin. John (Jack) graduated from St. James high school in 1951, and moved to Sarasota, FL 30 years ago from Minneapolis. John (Jack) retired in 1994 as owner of Berdells Auto Body in Sarasota. He was an Air Force veteran of the Korean War, a Lutheran, and a member of the American Legion Post 266 in Sarasota.
John is survived by his wife of 45 years, Marie M. Stendund; daughters Mary Murphy and Rita McClain, both of Sarasota; a son, Ron, of Sarasota; a sister, Anna Mae Krueger, of Cross Lake; and three grandchildren, Matt and Lauren McClain, and Jillian Murphy.
John was preceded in death by his parents.

Warren H. Haglund
Warren Harding Haglund, 82, of Butterfield, died on Thursday, April 17, 2003, at the Good Samaritan Village in Mountain Lake.
A service was held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, April 21, 2003, at Lakeview Gospel Church in Mountain Lake, with Reverend Mark Thimell, Reverend Mylo Rowcliffe, and Reverend Ben Doughty officiating.
The vocalists were Michael Espenson, Yvonne Rozeboom, and Steve Smith. The accompanists were Lillian Klaassen and Cami Maneotis.
Burial was at Butterfield Cemetery in Butterfield.
Visitation was from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday and 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. Monday at Bjerum Funeral Home in Mountain Lake and one hour prior to the service on Monday in the church.
Warren was born November 3, 1920, in Jackson County to Oscar George and Lulu (Chevalier) Haglund. He received his education at a country school near his home. Warren was a member of the National Guard in the 1940's.
On April 11, 1943, Warren was united in marriage to Pearl Frances Rettke at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in St. James. This year marked their 60th anniversary. They made their home and farmed together in the Butterfield area, where Warren also managed and operated the Butterfield Shipping Association for 20 years. He was a livestock buyer for Armour and had his own buying station at his farm. He loved farming, working the soil, and picking corn until his 80th birthday.
Warren served on the township board and was a member of Lakeview Gospel Church, where he also served as a trustee. On July 6, 2001, he entered the Good Samaritan Village in Mountain Lake.
Warren's hobbies included fishing, hunting, and snowmobiling. He expecially instilled the love of deer hunting in his family.
Warren is survived by his wife, Pearl of Mountain Lake; seven children, Lanny and his wife, Johnelle of Butterfield, Julene and her husband, Howard Hockel of Odin, Roxanne and her husband, Steve Smith of Loveland, CO, Renee and her husband, Steve Tierney of Eden Prairie, Debra and her husband, Dave Korton of Coon Rapids, Richard and his wife, Dee of Butterfield, and Yvonne and her husband, Harlin Rozeboom of Hills; 19 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; a sister, Esther Ihnken of Willmar; and many other relatives and friends.
Warren was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Scharlene Moulton; and two brothers-in-law, Adolph Ihnken and Merton Moulton.
The casketbearers were Lanny Haglund, Richard Haglund, Mark Hockel, Matt Haglund, Trent Smith, Ethan Rozeboom, Amanda Haglund, Taylor Tierney, Mikkala Korton. The honorary casketbearers were Wendy Briggs, Heidi Hockel, Charlotte Cruse, Kim Brooks, Karissa Haglund, Danylle Espenson, Christie Jensen, Connie Falk, Cami Maneotis, Lynsey Haglund, Mariel Korton, and Brittney Rozeboom.

Sharyl R. Zender
Sharyl R. Zender, 62, of Butterfield, passed away Tuesday, June 24, 2003, at Our House-Hospice of Murray County in Slayton.
A service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, June 27, 2003, at First Lutheran Church in Butterfield.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m., Thursday at Pease Funeral Home in St. James and one hour prior to the service at the church.
Sharyl was born during the Armistice Day blizzard on November 10, 1940 in Tracy to Irving and Clara (Knutson) Peterson. She grew up and attended school in Tracy and worked at various jobs in Tracy, Mountain Lake, and Butterfield.
Sharyl was married to E. Lynn Rohwer from 1960 until his death in 1971. She married Robert Zender in 1972 at St. James Catholic Church. Bob and Sharyl farmed in the Butterfield area until 1990 and owned a crop insurance business in St. James until 2002.
Sharyl was a member of the Order of Eastern Star where she was a former Worthy Matron. She was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Butterfield and was active in church activities.
Sharyl enjoyed traveling, attending sporting events, and summers at their lake home on Lake Shetek. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family and friends.
Sharyl is survived by her husband, Bob; three daughters, Julie and her husband, Greg Thymian of Morris, Deanna and her husband, Mike Strenge of Sioux Falls, SD, and Jennifer and her husband, Chris Carlson of Omaha, NE; son, Bryan Rohwer and his wife, Brenda of Chandler, AZ; six grandchildren, Jason and Jackie Thymian, Alex, Adam, and Amanda Strenge, and Anna Carlson; sister, Char Olson and her husband, Don of Minneapolis; four sisters-in-law, Delores Peterson of Las Vegas, NV, Colleen Hammer and her husband, Quinten of Jordan, Marion Smith of St. James, and Sally Jonson and her husband, Vern of Morris; three brothers-in-law, Stu Grev and his wife, Ruth of Portsmouth, RI, Andrew Zender Jr. and his wife, Kathleen of St. James, and John Zender and his wife, Ardyce of Butterfield; and nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Sharyl was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband; son, Mark Zender; brother, Maynard Peterson; sister, Janie Swenhaugen; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

Caleb J. Roufs
Caleb John Lambert Roufs, 22, of Cosmos, died Tuesday, August 5, 2003, at his home.
A service was held Saturday, August 9, 2003, at Peace Lutheran Church in Cosmos, with Pastor Fred Rengstorf officiating.
The organist was Charles Lietzau.
Burial was held at the Atwater Union Cemetery with Military Honors by the Beack-Thompson American Legion Post 135, Cosmos.
Caleb was born January 12, 1981, in Clarksville, Tennessee to Michael Roufs and Shirley (Jackson) Reinert. He was baptized on February 15, 1981 at the Peace Lutheran Church in Cosmos and was confirmed there April 14, 1996.
Caleb attended elementary school in Tennessee. When the family moved to Cosmos, he resumed elementary school there, and graduated with the ACGC class of 1999.
Caleb served in the United States Army. Upon discharge, he returned to Cosmos and worked at the Blomkest Fertilizer Plant. Caleb had recently moved to St. James and was employed as a truck mechanic with Runge Trucking.
Caleb was a member of the Cosmos American Legion Post 126. He enjoyed art, music, and his family.
Caleb is survived by his father, Michael L. Roufs of Blomkest; mother, Shirley J. Reinert and her husband, Tom of Cosmos; brother, Dolan M. R. Roufs of Cosmos; special friend, Tonia; grandmother, Kathryn Jackson and her husband, Dale of Cosmos; great-grandfather, Carl L. Anderson of Litchfield; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
Caleb was preceded in death by his grandfather, Lloyd Jackson; grandparents, Sylvester and Dora Roufs; great-grandmother, Emelie Anderson; and uncle, Lyle Jackson.

Dean C. Ziebarth
Dean Curtis Ziebarth, 74, of St. James, died Sunday, November 23, 2003 at S. James Health Services Hospital in St. James.
A service was held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, November 26, 2003 at St. James Catholic Church with Father Jim Berning and Sister Lucille Hass officiating.
Burial was held at Calvary Cemetery in St. James.
Dean was born April 25, 1929 to Wilbur and Elsie (Claussen) in Flandreau, SD. He attended and graduated from Flandreau High School. He was united is marriage to Janet (Rayman) June 9, 1951 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Salem, SD.
Dean worked for Murphy Motors from 1950-1961. Then as owner of Ziebarth Transfer he was an agent of Murphy Motors from 1961-1991. Upon retirement from Murphy Motors Dean was employed by Watonwan Farm Service from 1991-2003.
Dean was a volunteer for the fire department for 22 years. He was a member of St. James Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.
Dean enjoyed golf, sports, fishing, and hunting, and especially spending time with his family and grandchildren.
Dean is survived by his wife, Janet; son Jeffrey and his wife, Cara of Minnetrista; two daughters, Deanette Schmidt of Oakdale and Mary and her husband, Doug Sams of Orono; nine grandchildren, Krista, Ryan and Amanda Schmidt, Jordan, Addie, Callie and Kendra Ziebarth, and Maggie and Jack Sams; brother-in-law, James Rayman of Salem, SD; sister-in-law, Joan Eickman and her husband, Bill of Salem, SD; and nieces and nephews.
Dean was preceded in death by his parents and one sister-in-law, Donna Rayman.
Honorary guards were provided by the Fire Department and the Knights of Columbus.
The family prefers memorials to the American Cancer Society and the Arthritis Foundation.
