David W. Warner
David William Warner, 80, of St. James, died Thursday, August 15, 2002, at V.A. Hospital in Minneapolis.
A funeral service was held at the St. James Catholic Church on Tuesday, August 20 at 9 a.m. with Fr. Andy Olsem officiating, the organist was Ardyce Zender and the soloist was Donna Schmidt. Interment was at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis. Visitation was held Monday August 19 from 4-7 p.m. with a Christian Mother's Rosary at 4 p.m. and a Parish prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation continued Tuesday August 20 from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m.
Dave Warner, the son of Timothy and Elizabeth (Getzmeyer) Warner was born on July 25, 1922, in Montevideo. He graduated from Montevideo High School in 1940. Dave enlisted in the Army Air Force and was a decorated pilot, flying B 17 bombers in Europe for the 8th Air Force, 390th Bomber Group. On September 5, 1944, Dave was united in marriage, in Lincoln, NE, to Virginia Maher of Salina, KS, a First LT in the Army Air Force. Dave retired from Tony Downs Foods Company of St. James, where he served as Executive Vice President. He enjoyed being a husband, father and grandfather, playing golf and bridge, and reading and crossword puzzles. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, VFW, American Legion, Watonwan Country Club, and 390th Bomber Group Veterans Association.
Dave is survived by his wife of 58 years, Virginia Warner of St. James; daughter Barbara Madson and husband Robert from Lander, WY and their children Craig, Bozeman, MT, Tara, Lander, WY; Kevin, Lander, WY, Jeremy and his wife Kate and their children Leonard, Helen and Simon; son Dave and his wife Barb from Edina and their children Leslie of St. Louis Park, Liz of Burnsville, and Maggie of Edina; son Tim and his wife Rikki and their son Christopher and daughter Cassie and her husband Jeff Spriggs, all of Mankato; son Bob and his wife Linda of Monticello and their daughter Tina Carstens and her husband Chad of Brooklyn Park, and son David Warner of Monticello, son Mark and his wife Lin and their children Chris and his daughter Malia, Brady of Honolulu, HI and Jon and Lindsay of Minneapolis; son Pat and his wife Peggy and their children Jared and Elaine all of Rosemount; son Rick and his wife Julie and their children Aaron and Adam all of Prior Lake; daughter Margaret Thompson and husband Curt of Rosemount, and their children Mike of Columbus, OH, Jon of Bloomington, and Ben and his wife Michelle and their children Lauren, Trevor, Collin and Alexi all of Eagan; daughter Kathy Lepasepp and her husband Arvo and their children Nate and Megan of Savage; two sisters, Mary Kapp and Betty Passage both of Phoenix, AZ.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Timothy Gayle Warner.
Casketbearers were Bob Warner, Rick Warner, Tim Warner, Mark Warner, Pat Warner and Dave Warner.

Margaret A. McDonough
Margaret A. McDonough, 92 of Minneapolis died Monday, October 7, 2002.
A funeral service will be Friday, October 11 at 1 p.m. at St. Timothy's Catholic Church 707 89th Ave. N.E. Blaine. Visitation is one hour prior to the mass at the church. Burial in St. Gabriel's Cemetery, Fulda.
Beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Preceded in death by her husband, J. Harry; she is survived by her daughters Kathleen Fritz (Robert) of Spring Lake Park, Cecelia Kulseth (John) of St. James. Eight grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; many loving relatives and friends.

Evelyn Dorothy Bowers
Evelyn Bowers, 78, of Madelia, died Sunday, March 9, 2003 at the Madelia Community Hospital.
A service will be held on Friday, March 14, 2003, 10:30 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Madelia. Visitation is Thursday, March 13, 2003 from 5-8 p.m. at the Pilgrim Funeral Home in Madelia and one hour prior to the service at the church.
Evelyn was born on July 3, 1924 to Homer and Linda (Kitzerow) Bursell in Truman. She graduated from Truman High School in 1942. She married Ray J. Bowers on September 15, 1943.
She and Ray farmed in Martin and Watonwan counties until their retirement in 1982, when they moved to Madelia and became members of First Presbyterian Church.
She raised her children with a strong sense of family. She was a nurturing wife, mother, and grandmother. She established traditions in her family with holidays, meals, and activities which included all ages.
She also had a fun loving sense of humor and she was a past member of the Lewisville Kitchen Band.
Evelyn enjoyed fishing, gardening, traveling, golf, croquet and dancing with her husband, Ray. She was creative and used her talents to make wonderful gifts for her family and her home. She mastered many crafts and was especially gifted with hardanger.
Evelyn's legacy is her family. She will live on in their daily lives and thoughts. There is a huge void without her and she will be greatly missed. Those who knew her will always have the example of her life imprinted on theirs.
Survivors include her husband Ray, their five children and their spouses: Jerry and Debbie Bowers of Minneapolis; Chuck and Peggy Bowers, of Madelia; Jim and Trish Bowers of Lonsdale; Darlene and Ron Splinter of North Mankato; and Dale and Beverly Bowers of Owatonna; 13 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, one sister, Flowrein Cramer of Truman and one brother, Homer Bursell of Chicago.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and one sister.
Memorials are preferred to Melanoma Research of the Mayo Clinic or to Madelia Home Health Care.

Helen Olson
Helen Olson, 82, of Minneapolis and formerly of St. James, died Tuesday, August 12, at Redeemer Residence, in Minneapolis.
Funeral arrangements are pending with the Pease Funeral Home in St. James.

Maxine Sowers
Maxine Sowers, 77, of St. James died Tuesday, November 18, 2003 at the Pleasant View Nursing Home in St. James.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2004 at 2 p.m. at the Assembly of God Church in Mountain Lake. Pease Funeral Home in St. James is in charge of arrangements.
Maxine was born April 21, 1926 in Pine County to Ivan and Alice (Ables) Krouch.
Maxine is survived by two sons, Charles Todd and his wife, Linda of Sun City, AZ and Kevin Todd and his wife, Janet of Madelia; daughter, Sharon Diekmann and her husband, Gene of Welcome; brother, Gil Krouch and his wife, Alice of Minneapolis; four sisters, Dot Schubert and her husband, Jim of Gilbert, Ruth Anderson of Duluth, Barb Toyamo of Yuma, AZ, and Vivian Swanson and her husband, Arne of Sandstone; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; and distant family in the New Ulm, Madelia, Truman, and Fairmont areas.
Maxine was preceded in death by her husbands, Jack Todd and Michael Sowers.

Erwin H. Rettke
Erwin "Butch" H. Rettke, 84, of St. James, formerly of Odin, died Tuesday, February 10, 2004 at St. James Health Services in St. James.
A service will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, February 14, 2004 at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church with Pastor Martin Lopahs officiating.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m., Friday at Sturm Funeral Home in St. James and continuing for one hour prior to the service at the church.
Further arrangements are pending at Sturm Funeral Home.

Janice M. Devens
Janice M. Devens, age 57, of Maplewood, died on April 9, 2001.
Funeral service at 4 p.m. Wednesday at First Covenant Church in St. Paul, and at 2 p.m. Thursday at Long Lake Lutheran Church, rural St. James.
Interment at the church cemetery will follow the service.
Janice graduated from the University of Minnesota with an M.S.W. degree. She worked in a variety of human service positions, including supervisor, in Mille Lacs and Wright counties, and the Department of Human Service, State of Minnesota.
She is survived by her mother, Dorothy Devens of St. James; children, Amber and Elizabeth "Libby"; sister, Gail Diane of Eden Prairie; brother, Don and wife, Gail Marie, of Houston, Texas; nephew, Chad and wife, Nichole Devens, of Dallas, Texas; niece, Emily, of College Station, Texas.
Memorials will be dedicated to the adoption service of India.
Arrangements handled by Anderson Funeral Home, St. Paul, (651) 776-2761.

Clifford W. Call
Clifford W. Call, 82, of Edina, passed away on Jan. 8, 2002.
A service was held on Saturday, Jan. 12 at 2 p.m. at Normandale Lutheran Church in Edina.
Visitation was held one hour prior to the service at the church.
There was a private burial at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
Clifford grew up in St. James. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He graduated from the University of Minnesota. Clifford retired as an executive in 1985 after 36 years with McGarvey Coffee, Inc. Past president of both the Optimist Club of Minneapolis and the Minneapolis Breakfast Club. He was an active member of Normandale Lutheran Church for 49 years and enjoyed retirement winters in Sun Lakes, Ariz.
Clifford is survived by his wife of 55 years, Fern (Lesch); sons, Christopher (John Thomas) and Curtis (Susan Wilson); grandchildren, Tanner & Riley; sister, Harriet Hager of Golden Valley and brother, Leslie (Eunice) of Minnetonka.
Memorials preferred to Normandale Lutheran Church Foundation.

Beverly Lenning
Beverly Gail Lenning, of Prior Lake, 66, died June 10, 2002, at her home.
Services will be Saturday, June 15, at 11 a.m. at the Sturm Funeral Home in St. James with Norma Berquist officiating, Gloria Lewis playing the organ and Paula Smithson as the soloist.
Burial will be at the Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Odin.
Beverly was born to Richard Ivan and Mildred (Metteer) Bean in Comfrey on October 23, 1935. She was baptized and confirmed in the Presbyterian Faith in Blue Earth. Beverly graduated from the Butterfield High School in 1953.
She was married to Duane Lenning on October 16, 1954 at the first Lutheran Church Parsonage of Butterfield. She was employed at Mt. Lake Public School as a bookkeeper.
Beverly and her family moved to Prior Lake in 1974 and later she went to work for FabCon as an accountant in Savage until her retirement. The enjoyment of her life were her grandchildren and vacationing in Hawaii. She lived in Hawaii for three years until her daughter's death in 2000 when she moved back to Minnesota.
Beverly is survived by her two daughters, Peggy Franz of Prior Lake, Therese Van Cleve Scherer of Shakopee; a son, Curtis and his wife Bev Lenning of Butterfield; four grandchildren, Joshua Franz, Lisa Franz, Kelly Van Cleve, Mercedes Lenning; one great grandchild, Julian Franz; one brother, Terrance "Lee" Bean of Butterfield; one sister, Joyce and her husband Gene Lenning of Butterfield and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Mildred Bean; a daughter, Loray Anne Lenning; and infant daughter; a son-in-law, Ronald R. Scherer; and a sister, Rena Freese.
