Clarice T. Peterson
Clarice Thelma Peterson passed away at Sogge Good Samaritan Home in Windom on Wednesday morning, April 11, 2001, at the age of 79 years, five months and 24 days.
Memorial service was held at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, April 13, at the American Lutheran Church in Windom, with Revs. Stephen Norby and Gregory Hall officiating. Burial followed at Lakeview Cemetery in Windom. The organist was Carol Vought; Teri Tunheim was the vocalist.
Visitation was held for one hour prior to the services at the American Lutheran Church.
Arrangements handled by Anderson-Schmidt Funeral Home in Windom.
Clarice was born on Oct. 17, 1921, in Canby to Edward and Mable (Rein) Miller. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith in Canby, and graduated from Canby High School in the class of 1940.
For several years, Clarice was a homemaker, raising seven children, until entering into retailing and then apartment management.
In February of 2000, she was diagnosed with cancer, and on February 13 of this year, she entered Sogge Good Samaritan Home.
Clarice was a member of the American Lutheran Church in Windom and loved the company of others, especially her family.
She is survived by seven children, Sharon Moody of Butterfield, Junior Peterson and his wife, Kay, of Mt. Lake, Wayne Peterson and his wife, Sharon, of Rochester, Connie Lubben of Windom, Pamela Johnson and her husband, Jan, of Windom, Mark Peterson and his wife, Jan, of Windom, Vicki Wiens and her husband, Mike, of Windom.
She is also survived by one sister-in-law, Florence Miller of Granite Falls; one aunt, Evelyn Emston of Granite Falls; 16 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Her parents; brother, Percy; grandson, Travis Nelson; and son-in-law, Charles Moody, preceded her in death.
Honorary casketbearers were all of Clarice's grandchildren, Stacy Moody, Kelly Zodlmar, Kim Hanson, Joshua Lubben, Naomi Peterson, Amy Moody, Chad Peterson, Tanya Peterson, Troy Peterson, Nick Peterson, Shane Nelson, Kristy Moody, Chris Peterson, Justin Lubben, Tera Wiens and Jared Peterson.

Fern E. Olson
Fern Eloise Olson, 86, of Trimont and formerly of Jackson and St. James, died on Wednesday morning, April 11, 2001, at Trimont Health Care Center in Trimont.
Service of remembrance was at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 14, 2001, at Kramer Family Funeral Home Chapel in Trimont, with Pastor Sarah Oelberg officiating. The organist was Nila Gene Olson, the soloist was Luke Olson.
Visitation with the family was one hour prior to the services on Saturday at Kramer Family Funeral Home in Trimont.
Fern was born March 13, 1915, in rural Ormsby, to William and Agnes (Petersen) Wilson. She attended three different rural schools in Martin County in grades one through eight, two years in Triumph High School, and later two years at Jackson High School, and one year at Jackson Teachers Training and then to Mankato State College.
Fern taught for five years in neighboring rural schools.
On Oct. 10, 1939, she eloped with David Olson and they were married at Estherville, Iowa. After their marriage, they lived on the family farm in Kimball Township, Jackson County, along with a bachelor brother-in-law and a hired man.
In August of 1940, she was injured in an accident with a gravel truck and was hospitalized in a coma for 30 days.
They spent winters in Texas until Dave's death in 1977. She then continued to winter in McAllen, Texas.
Fern moved from the farm to a home in St. James, and then to Homestead Apartments. She then moved to the Jackson Pines Assisted Living Home. Since January of 2000, she has been a resident of Trimont Health Care Center.
Both Fern and Dave were involved in the Nora Unitarian Universalist Church in Hanska. They were very busy in their married life, raising two children and instilling in them a love of books, music, games, photography, drawing and cooking.
Fern and Dave were very involved in the DFL and Farmers Union. Most of their social life centered around those interests.
Fern greatly enjoyed crocheting and reading. She was a devoted Minnesota Twins baseball fan. She was extremely proud of her grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughter, Carmen Jass, and special friend Stan Heinitz of rural Odin; her children, Lanny Jass and his wife, Karen, of Chanhassen, Brady Jass and his wife, Barbara, of Jackson, and their children, Derek and Payton; Brent Jass and his wife, Debby, of rural Odin; Michelle Maland and her husband, Pete of Dublin, Ohio, and their children, Ashley, Alex and Andrew; Darrin Jass and his wife, Krista, of North Mankato.
She is also survived by a foster granddaughter, Diane D'Allesandro and her husband, George of South Haven; and a son, Dale Olson and his wife, Ann (Balm), of Cedar Falls, Iowa; their children, Jeff Olson of Colorado and Sara Olson of Cedar Falls; step-grandchildren, Joan, Dustin, Derek and Daniel Balm of Cedar Falls.
Also, a sister, Carol Olson of St. James; sisters-in-law, Irene Wilson of El Cerrito, Calif., and Bernadine Wilson of Fairmont; special friends, Leonard and Marie Tumbleson of Trimont; and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, David Olson; a sister, Golda; and six brothers, Floyd, Russel, Lee, Ulmer, Harold and Donald Wilson; and other relatives.

Robert H. Kading
Robert Kading, 78, of Montgomery, died Thursday, March 13, 2003 at Fairview Southdale Hospital in Edina.
A service was held 10:30 Monday, March 17, 2003 at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Montgomery with Father Clarence Vavra officiating.
Burial was at Calvary Cemetery in Montgomery with military honors provided by Montgomery Area Veteran's Honor Guard.
Visitation was from 4 to 8 p.m. at Schoenbauer Funeral Home in Montgomery and one hour prior to the service at the church.
Robert was born April 18, 1924 in St. James to Erhardt and Clara (Landwer) Kading. He graduated from St. James High School and then received his masters degree in music from Mankato State University.
Robert served in the United States Army during World War II.
Robert was united in marriage to Isabelle Rathman on October 13, 1946 in St. James.
Robert was a band teacher/director in Nicollet, Janesville, and then in Montgomery. He was also the choir director in Montgomery schools for several years.
Robert was a member of the VFW, the American Legion, the Knights of Columbus, and the MEA.
He collected model railroads/trains and radio controlled model airplanes. He enjoyed woodworking, rose gardening, RVing, and music. Robert was also a HAM radio operator and a tool and die maker.
Robert is survived by his wife, Isabelle Kading of Montgomery; his three daughters, Christine and husband Todd Dahlgren of Maple Lake, Kathleen and husband Jeff Blue of Janesville, Stephanie and husband Bruce Ponath of Belle Plain; and nine grandchildren.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Brian; his daughter, Mary; his three brothers, Arnold, William, and Earl in childhood; and his sister, Freda Beck.

Ella Larson
Ella Larson, 98, of St. James, died Tuesday, December 9, 2003 at the Pleasant View Nursing Home in St. James.
A service was held at 1 p.m., Friday, December 12, 2003 at the Long Lake Lutheran Church in rural St. James with Pastor Lowell Asplund officiating.
The organist was Viola Sandberg and the vocalist was Dennis Hustad.
The burial was held at Long Lake Lutheran Cemetery.
Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.
Pease Funeral Home in St. James is in charge of arrangements.
Ella was born August 1, 1905 to Louis and Sophie (Bjorkman) Larson in Long Lake Township. She was a life long resident of Watonwan County. She attended rural school.
Ella lived on the family farm and cared for her parents until their deaths. She continued to live on the farm until a couple of years ago when she became a resident of the Pleasant View Nursing Home in St. James.
Ella was a member of the Long Lake Lutheran Church. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, and handwork.
Ella is survived by four nieces, Elaine Krueger and her husband, Jim of Waukesha, WI, Marilyn Sheffield and her husband, Terry of Westlake Village, CA, Bonnie Kuslich of White Bear Lake, and Marlene Kamleiter of St. James; nephew, Todd Larson of St. James; and sister-in-law, Ruth Larson of St. James.
Ella was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Ann Hovdet; five brothers, Carl, Ludvig, Otto, Emil, and Sam; and niece, Sandra Larson Johnson.
The pallbearers were Jim Krueger, Todd Larson, Dennis Hunstad, Kenneth Bratland, Kermit Carlson, and Walter Thate.

Ludvig O. Wolner
Ludvig (Lucky Lud) Orlando Wolner, 88, of North Mankato, died on Wednesday, April 23, 2003, at his home in North Mankato.
A service was held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, April 25, 2003, at the Pease Funeral Home in St. James with Pastor Ted Kunze officiating.
The organist was Cecelia Kulseth.
Burial with Military Honors was in Mt. Hope Cemetery in St. James.
Visitation was from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Pease Funeral Home and Friday from 8 a.m. until the service at 1:30.
Lud was born on June 24, 1914, near Ormsby to George and Minnie (Setsvold) Wolner. He was raised in rural St. James and was baptized and confirmed at Long Lake Lutheran Church in St. James. Lud attended District 12 rural school in Watonwan County. He also attended St. Paul Vocational Technical School where he learned to become a certified welder.
Lud served in the 340th Army Engineers during World War II and was stationed in Alaska, Canada and the South Pacific. He received four bronze star decorations.
Lud married Mercedes Bloom on December 15, 1946 in St. James. He was a life long resident of the St. James area and worked as a welder, farmer, and salesman.
Lud was a member of the Augustana Lutheran Church in St. James and had served as head usher for many years. He was also a member of the Watonwan Game and Fish Club.
Lud enjoyed being with his family, going out for coffee, fishing, trap shooting, golfing, camping, and attending the Butterfield Threshing Bee. In February of 2002, Lud and Mercedes moved to North Mankato.
Lud is survived by his wife, Mercedes; his two daughters, Donna and her husband Don Sprowl of Alexandria, Louisiana, and Shirley and her husband David Hegdahl of White Bear Lake; his son, Raymond and his wife, Linda of St. James; six grandchildren, Jonathan and Jennifer Sprowl, Adam and Michael Wolner, Wendy Riphenburg and her husband, Scott, and Jodi Mullen and her husband Chris; his great grandchild, Alyssa; and two nephews, Clinton and Ellsworth Grev.
Lud was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Thomas; his sisters, Evelyn Grev and Lillian Anderson; and his brother, Alden.
The pallbearers were the grandchildren and their spouses, Adam and Michael Wolner, Jennifer and Jonathan Sprowl, Wendy and Scott Riphenburg, and Jodi and Chris Mullin. Alyssa Riphenburg was an honorary pallbearer.
