Kiara L. Bass
Kiara Lynn Bass, infant daughter of Ryan and Tiffany of St. James, was born Tuesday, August 3, 2004 in Madelia. She died Wednesday, August 4, 2004 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester.
Graveside services were held Monday, August 9, 2004 at 11 a.m. at Mt. Hope Cemetery in St. James with Pastor Carla Reierson officiating.
Kiara is survived by her parents, Ryan and Tiffany; grandmother, Cheryl Reinitz; great-grandmother, Frieda Reinitz; aunt, Trisha Reinitz; grandparents, Ray and Mary Bass; great-grandmother, Donna westman; uncle, Bruce Bass; and great-great-great-aunt, Edith Seal.
Kiara was preceded in death by her great-grandfathers, Kenneth Reinitz and Everett Westman.
Arrangements were with Sturm Funeral Home in St. James.

Lorene J. Manning
Lorene Janet Manning, 84, of St. James, died Monday, August 9, 2004 at the Good Samaritan Village Nursing Home in Mountain Lake.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday, August 12, 2004 at St. James Catholic Church in St. James with Father Jim Berning officiating.
The organist will be Ardyce Zender and the music leader will be Megan Wright.
Burial will be held at Calvary Cemetery in St. James.
Visitation was held from 4 to 7 p.m., Wednesday at Pease Funeral Home in St. James.
Lorene was born June 4, 1920 in Owatonna Township, Steele County to Alphonse G. and Mary Ann (Taylor) Meyman. She grew up near Owatonna and was a 1937 graduate of Owatonna High School. She graduated from Mankato State Teachers College in 1942.
Lorene taught social studies and mathematics in Sauk Centre and Nicollet. She moved to St. James in 1946 where she taught school.
Lorene married William Manning on August 22, 1953 in Owatonna. Following her marriage she taught the homebound.
William died in 1990. Lorene continued to live in her home until August 2001 when she became a resident of the Eventide Home in Mountain Lake. In March of 2004 she entered the Good Samaritan Village Nursing Home in Mountain Lake.
Lorene was an active member of the St. James Catholic Church and it's women's organizations. She was an accomplished pianist. She was also a member of the St. James Business and Professional Women's Club.
Lorene is survived by numerous cousins and friends.
Lorene is preceded in death by her parents; husband, William; and brother, Maurice Meyman.
The pallbearers were Gary Miller, John Hoffman, Larry Landsteiner, Paul Nordstrom, Steve Sunde, and Robert Kline.

Moline "Lena" Ekman
Moline "Lena" Ekman, 89, of St. James, died Monday, August 9, 2004 at Pleasant View Good Samaritan Center in St. James.
A service was held at 11:30 a.m., Thursday, August 12, 2004 at Sturm Funeral Home in St. James with Mr. Craig Winquist and Ms. Shari Stamps officiating.
Burial was held at Mt. Hope Cemetery.
Visitation was held from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., Thusday at Sturm Funeral Home.
Lena was born January 25, 1915 to Reinder and Dena (Hassebrock) Johnson in Lakota, IA. She lived on a farm with her family and following her education she worked in a grocery store in Lakota. Later she ventured to Colorado Springs, CO and worked in retail business where she met her husband, Martin.
On November 10, 1945, Lena was united in marriage to Martin Ekman in Pipestone. They worked in a bakery in Brookings, SD. In 1947 the couple moved to Fairmont where they owned and operated a bakery with Martin's twin brother Milton and his wife, Elva.
In 1951 the couple moved to St. James and opened a new bakery and snack bar. After several years they retired from the bakery business and opened Ekman's Childrens Clothing which they operated for many years. In November of 1992, Martin and Lena moved to Pleasant View Care Center where they lived together until Martin's death on April 4, 1999.
Lena is survived by her sister-in-law, Mabel Johnson of Albert Lea; seven nieces, Esther Meyer, Edith Pruismann, Erma Bockoven, Sharon Lombard, Wanda Espeland, Paula Nicholson, and Carla Christianson; and five nephews, Emel Duawyne Pruismann, Gary Johnson, Ronald Johnson, Wendell Espeland, and James Hutchinson.
Lena was preceded in death by her husband; parents; three brothers, Reiner, George, and Andrew; and four sisters, Etta Pruismann, Jane Espeland, Elizabeth Hutchinson, and Kathryn Johnson.

Emma Rempel
Emma Madeline Rempel, 86, of Mountain Lake, died Monday, October 4, 2004 at Good Samaritan Village in Mountain Lake.
A service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, October 8, 2004 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Darfur with Reverend Mark Fischer officiating.
Burial will be held at Bethlehem Lutheran Cemetery in Darfur.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m., Thursday at Bjerum Funeral Home and continue for one hour prior to the service at the church.
Emma was born December 23, 1917 to John and Margaret (Menssen) Aden in Lincoln County near Pocahontas, IA. She was baptized on January 20, 1918 and on July 10, 1932 she was confirmed at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Darfur.
On January 20, 1946, Emma was united in marriage to Oscar Englin at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in St. James.They made their home and farmed in the Darfur area. Oscar died in 1970.
Emma continued to live in Darfur until 1977, when she moved to Mountain Lake where she worked at the Good Samaritan Village as a nursing assistant for 26 years. On June 23, 1978, she was united in marriage to Frank Rempel at Bethlehem Lutheran Church and they made their home in Mountain Lake. Frank died on September 22, 1999.
Emma was active in her church with Mission Circle, Bible Study and Ladies Aid and was a member of the VFW Auxiliary. She had a personal relationship with her Savior, Jesus Christ, and enjoyed sharing her faith with others. Emma enjoyed crocheting, embroidery, reading her Bible, fishing, bowling, and traveling to visit her family.
Emma is survived by three daughters, Maxine and her husband, Warren Pankonin of Lamberton, Sandra and her husband, Lee McAdams of Dallas, TX, and Merlie and her husband, Dennis Kluver of Spokane, WA; four sons, Robert of Windom, Allan and his wife, Marlys of Windom, Mervin and his wife, Betty of Mountain Lake, and Vareld and his wife, Joyce Englin of Garner, IA; over 100 grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Joan Lauck of Coon Rapids; two brothers, Raymond Aden of Marino Valley, CA and John Aden and his wife, Sandra of St. James; two sisters, Edna Anderson and Wynona Yackel and her husband, Merlin of St. James; sister-in-law, Barbara Aden of St. James; and many other relatives and friends.
Emma was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; son, Marvin Englin; daughter, Elvona, Aden; daughter-in-law, Kathy Rempel; grandson, Sheldon Lee Rempel; three brothers, Gerald, Wallace, and Donald Aden; and two sisters, Gebka Curry and Melinda Aden.

Harry R. Andersen
Harry R. Andersen, 83, of St. James, died Monday, October 4, 2004 at Pleasant View Good Samaritan Center in St. James.
A service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, October 8, 2004 at Sturm Funeral Home in St. James with Reverend K. Christian Johnson and Reverend Susan K. Wright officiating.
A committal service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, October 9, 2004 at Long Lake Lutheran Cemetery.
Visitation was held from 4 to 7 p.m., Thursday and from 10 to 11 a.m., Friday at Sturm Funeral Home.
Harry was born February 14, 1921 to Martin and Mae (Rhode) Andersen in Tyler. He was baptized at the Lake Benton Church.
Harry married Arlyne Boll on May 6, 1946. To this union five children were born, Daniel, Delores, Gary, Kenneth, and Donna. Gary was killed in an accident in Sioux Falls, SD in March of 1975.
Harry served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1945. He was a member of VFW Post #1914 in St. James. On June 30, 1979 he married Estella Stauffer at Augustana Lutheran Church in St. James.
Harry was a tractor mechanic and worked in Tyler, Tracy, St. James, and lastly at Rosenberg Implement in Welcome for 13 years before his retirement. He enjoyed fishing, camping, crafts, model cars, and painting.
Harry is survived by his wife, Estella of St. James; two sons, Daniel and his wife, LeAnn of South Sioux City, NE and Kenneth and his wife, Kathy of Thornton, CO; two daughters, Delores and her husband, Dawes Beynon of Brookings, SD and Donna and her husband, Duane Rankin of St. James; step-son, Stuart Stauffer and his wife, Kathy of Cannon Falls; step-daughter, Suzette Becker and her husband, Robert of Lewisville; two brothers, Walter and his wife, Gladys of Newark, TX and Arthur and his wife, Pat of Bullhead City, AZ; five sisters, Marie Otkin of Pipestone, Annie Boll of Luverne, Hannah Utley of Sioux Falls, SD, Martha Yonker of St. Paul, and Evelyn Carillo and her husband, David Carillo of Barstow, CA; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Harry was preceded in death by his parents and son, Gary Andersen.

David G. Ouren
David Gary Ouren, 60, of Hanska, died Friday, November 26, 2004, at Luther Memorial Home in Madelia, due to complications of Progressive Supranuclear Palsy.
A service was held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, December 1, 2004 at Zion Lutheran Church in Hanska.
Burial with full military honors conducted by the New Ulm Veterans Organizations was held in Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis.
Visitation was held from 3 to 7 p.m., Tuesday at Schmucker Funeral Service in New Ulm and continued for one hour prior to the service at the church.
David was born April 28, 1944 to Milton and Irene (Erdmann) Ouren in New Ulm. After graduating from Hanska High School in 1962, he attended Mankato State College until 1964. David entered the United States Air Force in 1965, serving in Thailand during the Vietnam era.
Following his honorable discharge in 1969, David returned to the area and began work with 3M Company in New Ulm. He was united in marriage to Michelle R. Deutchman August 19, 1972 at Grace Lutheran Church in Mankato. They made their home in Hanska. David held various responsibilities with 3M, retiring with 30 years of service as a master electrician due to complications of his disease.
David was an avid fan of baseball and basketball. He was a past board member of the Hanska Baseball Association, coach of Little League Baseball, and player of the game in his youth and adult life. David was a member of Zion Lutheran Church of Hanska. He loved water sports, camping, golfing, bowling, and card playing with family and friends, or just watching the sun set at the lake.
David is survived by his wife, Michelle (Micki) of Hanska; two sons, Ty David (US Navy) of Oak Harbor, WA and Trae Alan (US Navy) and his wife, Lori of St. Mary's, GA; two daughters, Emily Katrin and her husband, Andrew Borum of Carver and Laura Anne of Hanska; three grandsons, Matthew Ty Ouren, Benjamin Anthony and Maxwell Fredric Borum; two granddaughters, Britney Michelle and Brooklyn Macinzie Ouren; brother, Eugene Ouren and his wife, Deloris of Redwood Falls; three sisters, Dorothy Strom and her husband, Harley of Robinsdale, Beverly Hutton and her husband, Terry of Gettysburg, PA, and Dianna Steinmetz and her husband, Larry of New Ulm; mother-in-law, Marcella Cesar of Mapleton; four brothers-in-law, Boyd Kramer of Eagles Bend, OR, Bruce Kramer and his wife, Carol of Nicollet, Rory Deutchman and his wife, Jan of Lake Crystal, and Mark Deutchman of Mapleton; two sisters-in-law, Delilia Langworthy and her husband, Bernard of Mapleton and Rhonda McVay and her husband, Jim of Nowata, OK; and nieces and nephews.
David was preceded in death by his parents and a sister in infancy.
