Minnie Christensen, 89, died Nov. 28, 2001 at the Chippewa County-Montevideo Hospital. Her funeral was held Dec. 1, at Salem Lutheran Church in Montevideo with Pastor Wayne Kopitzke officiating. Organist was Donna Jo Kopitzke and soloist, Mari Larson.

Lester Grier
Lester L. Grier, 90, died Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2002 in Clarksville, TN. His funeral was held Feb. 2 at Grace Lutheran Church in Clarksville with Rev. Larry A. Peters officiating.

Marjorie Flynn
Marjorie J. Flynn, 84, of LeMars, IA, died Aug. 2, 2002 at the Brentwood Good Samaritan Center in LeMars. Mass of Christian Burial was held Aug. 7 at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Granite Falls.

Elmer Geistfeld
Elmer H. Geistfeld, 86, of Marshall, died Feb. 11, 2003, at Weiner Memorial Medical Center in Marshall. His funeral was held Feb. 14 at Christ Lutheran Church in Marshall with Pastor William Ziebell officiating. Burial was in the Marshall Cemetery.

Julia Laechelt
Julia Laechelt, 92, died Thursday, Jan. 6, 2000 at her home in Clarkfield. Her funeral was held Monday, Jan. 10 at Zion Lutheran Church with Pastor Randy Maland officiating. Organist was Norma Streich.
Casket bearers were Mark Laechelt, Jeffrey Hovlid, William Wiberg, Donald Hinz, Alfred Pierce and Marlan Satre. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Julia Irene Laechelt was born Sept. 24, 1907 near Canby to Louis and Bertha Saltee. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.
Julia married Walter Laechelt on Jan. 27, 1927. Julia and Walter farmed their entire married life. She was a member of Zion Lutheran church and an active member of the LWML. She was a Sunday School superintendent and Vacation Bible School superintendent for 27 years. She was president of the Women's Committee of MN Farm Bureau Federation for 35 years and active with the YMC fair association for 42 years as well as involved in other community organizations. She received the senior citizen outstanding distinguished citizen award for YMC.
She is survived by her children: Phyllis Kockelman and Merlyn Laechelt of Boyd; Alice Laechelt and Bob Johnson; eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Walter in 1970; five sisters and three brothers.
J.H. Lynner Funeral Home of Clarkfield handled arrangements.

Catherine Larson
Catherine Regina "Ree" Larson, 77, of Montevideo died Monday, Feb. 21, 2000 in Tucson, AZ. A memorial funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 29 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Montevideo at 7 p.m. Friends may visit with family members beginning at 6 p.m. that evening at church. A light luncheon will follow the service. Private committal services will be held the following morning at Sunset Memorial Cemetery.
Wing-Bain Funeral Home of Montevideo is in charge of the funeral arrangements. "Ree" Larson was the widow of the late Wilt Larson of Montevideo.

Glenn Brabender
Glenn Brabender, 57, of Monte-video, died Sunday, Feb. 20, 2000 at his home, rural Montevideo. His funeral will be held Friday, Feb. 25, at 1:30 p.m. at Our Savior's Luthran Church in Montevideo with Rev. Larry Olson officiating. Organist is Colleen Hewitt and soloist, Ronald Cole.
Casket bearers will be Palmer Gilsrud, Rod Meyer, Ron Olson, Dick Jorgenson, Jerome Jerve, Bob Tischer, Stan Antolik and Ken Jerve. Honorary casket bearers are all his grandchildren, nieces and nephews and all Fiesta City Speedway race drivers. Interment will be at Immanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery near Montevideo.
Visitation will be held Thursday afternoon and evening at Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo with the family present from 5-8 p.m and a prayer service at 7 p.m.
Glenn Curtis Brabender was born on March 16, 1942 in Montevideo to Donald and Pearl (Cole) Brabender. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He graduated from Wood Lake High School in 1960. In 1961 he moved to Big Bend Township in Chippewa County with his parents and farmed there since. On July 12, 1980 he married Anna Schmitz. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran.
He is survived by his wife, Anna; a step-daughter Cherish Cartie and husband Hilary of Montevideo; grandchildren Kassondra and Dante Cartie; his mother, Pearl Brabender of Montevideo; brothers Lyle Brabender and wife Cheryl of Montevideo and Wayne Brabender of Simancos, Spain; sister Marilynn Augeson and husband Darrell of Montevideo and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father.

Loren Stengel
Loren Stengel, 66, of Granite Falls, died Feb. 18, 2001. His funeral was held Wednesday, Feb. 21, at St. Paul Lutheran Church of Granite Falls with Pastor Leo Dietemeyer officiating. Organist was Sharon Brockman. The St. Paul Lutheran Church's Men's Choir sang.
Honorary pallbearers were Loren's grandchildren and step-grandchildren. Active pallbearers were Steve Brockman, Jon Brockman, Dean Brockman, Donald Okrina, Marvin Okrina and Lynn Okrina. Interment will be in the church cemetery in the spring of 2001.
Loren Dean Stengel was born on Aug. 8, 1934 in Marshall in Lyon County, to Edith and Amiel Stengel. He was baptized in the Christian faith at St. Paul Lutheran. He attended Hanley Falls public school. He married Marie Brockman on Aug. 20, 1955. He farmed his parents' farm from 1950 until retiring and moving to Granite Falls in 1995.
Marie died on May 20, 1988 and on May 27, 1989, Loren married Kathryn Trauger. Loren was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and participated as an elder, an usher and also as vice-chairman of the congregation.
He is survived by his wife Kathryn of Granite Falls; his sons, Gene (and Pam) Stengel of Granite Falls and Allen (and Pat) Stengel of rural Hanley Falls; his daughters, Kathleen (and Gene) Stoel of Lake Wilson, and Julie Randt of Roseville; a step-son, Brent (and Dawn) Trauger of Park Rapids; a step-daughter, Amy (and Ryan) Peterson of Spring Mills, PA; grandchildren, Tim Stengel, Amy and Travis Stoel, Tina and Chad Randt, Theresa, Tara, Kevin and Robert Stengel, David, Katie, Joshua and Matthew Dahl, Alexis and Taylor Trauger; and great-grandsons, Andrew and Zachary Spetzman.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Marie and an infant daughter, Mary Ellen.
Wing-Bain Funeral Home of Granite Falls handled arrangements.

LuVern "Vernie" Gullickson
LuVern "Vernie" Gullickson, 61, of Redwood Falls, died Dec. 1, 2001 in Wabasso at his daughter's home. His funeral was held Wednesday at the Redwood Valley Funeral Home with Rev. Russ Jacobsen officiating.

Joan Macho
Joan Macho, 71, of Granite Falls, died April 13, 2002 at the Chippewa County Montevideo Hospital in Montevideo. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, April 19, at St. Andrew Catholic Church of Granite Falls with Fr. Jim Devorak officiating. Pianist is Joan Lundell with vocal music by Jill Sand. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Vi Thompson
Vi (Pagenkoff) Thompson, wife of Tilden Thompson, formerly of Granite Falls, died Oct. 10, 2002, in Payson, AZ. She is survived by a daughter Betty Kelley (& Smoki) of Overgaard, AZ, and son Tom of Mesa, AZ.

James F. Hollenbeck
James F. Hollenbeck, 75, CW 4 U.S. Army (retired), died Nov. 20, 2002. Mass of Christian Burial was held on Nov. 25 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Colorado Springs, CO. Following mass, military honors were performed at the Shrine of Remembrance Mausoleum.

Arthur Hargrave
Arthur Hargrave, 82, of Boyd, died Feb. 20, 2003 while visiting in McAllen TX. His funeral was held Feb. 15 at Trinity Lutheran Church of Boyd with Pastor Ryan Fischer officiating. Organist was Mavis Hutt and soloist, Leslie Hargrave.

Suella Brennan
Suella Brennan, 89, of Downers Grove, IL, died at the Fairview Baptist Home. Services will be held at St. Michael Lutheran Church at Downers Grove, IL on Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2000. Burial will be at Mt. Emblem cemetery.
Suella I. Brennan was born Dec. 19, 1910 at Hanley Falls. She was the wife of the late James F. Brennan and mother of Rich (Pat) Brennan.

Elane McCarriar
Elane McCarriar, 91, of Castlewood, SD, died Nov. 30, 2001 at the Estelline Nursing & Care Center. Services were held Dec. 4 at the First Presbyterian Church in Castlewood, SD with Rev. Terry Drew officiating. Interment was in the Castlewood Cemetery.

Orville Anderson
Orville B. Anderson, 68, of Hanley Falls, died at his home on Thursday, Feb. 7, 2002. His funeral was held on Monday, Feb. 11, at the Yellow Medicine Lutheran Church of Hanley Falls with Pastor Matt Griggs officiating. Organist was ZeeAnne Reishus with vocal music by Annette Sharkey.

Agnes Plath
Agnes Plath, 80, of Granite Falls, and formerly of the New London area died on Saturday, Jan. 8, 2000, at her home. Mass of Christian burial was held Tuesday, Jan. 11 at Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church in Spicer with Fr. Fred Fink officiating. Interment was in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Chokio.
Agnes Irene Plath was born on May 12, 1919 at Chokio to Emil and Emma Pahl. She grew up in the Chokio area. Agnes married Mathias Ritter and they had five children. Mathias died on Oct. 19, 1954. Agnes then married Orville Plath. She worked at the Glen Oaks Care Center for 22 years retiring in 1987. Orville died on Aug. 2, 1969. In 1995 Agnes moved to Granite Falls.
She was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith and was a member of Our Lady of the Ladies Catholic Church.
She is survived by her children: Paul Ritter, Portage, WI; Josephine (and Roger) Kipp, Graceville; Caroline (and Cletus) Schefers, Buffalo; Marie Anderson, Granite Falls; Mathias Ritter Jr., St. Cloud; David (and Nancy) Plath, Alexandria and Delvin (and Linda) Plath, Sumter, SC; 20 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husbands, Agnes was preceded in death by her parents, 10 brothers and sisters, daughter-in-law Patricia Ritter, granddaughter, Deborah Kipp and great-grandson, Christopher Foye.
