William Bruflat
William Bruflat Jr., 72, died Monday, Dec. 3, 2001 at the Clarkfield Care Center. His funeral was held Wednesday, Dec. 5, at the Clarkfield Lutheran Church with Pastor Terry Brandt officiating. Organist was Hunter Fennell, and soloist, Ross Riecke.

Kenneth Lee
Kenneth Lee, 70, of Maynard, died at his residence on Monday, Feb. 11, 2002. His funeral will be held on Friday, Feb. 15, at 1 p.m. at Wang Lutheran Church with Pastor Mary Hovland officiating. Burial will be held in the church cemetery.

Cleo Dyer
Cleo Dyer, 76, of Browns Valley, died Monday, May 1, 2000, at the Browns Valley Health Center after a long battle with cancer. His funeral was held Friday, May 5, at Siloah Lutheran Church, rural Graceville with Rev. John Fagan officiating. Organist was Tamra Ragan. Honorary pallbearers were Cleo's grandchildren and Wm. Krensing American Legion Post #58. Active pallbearers were Kevin and Keith Dyer, Forest Allen, Roger Toso, Jerome Jordan and Dale Stomberg. Interment was in the church cemetery.
Cleo Nolan Dyer was born April 13, 1924 at O'Neill, NE to Charles and Harriet Dyer. They moved to Minnesota when Cleo was about two. Baptized and confirmed as a young adult, Cleo attended school in the Morris area, graduating from west Central School of Agriculture in Morris in 1942. He served in the U.S. Army and was in Korea during World War II. On May 11, 1947 he married Hildur Stomberg. The couple farmed from 1947-1968 in Traverse County. In 1966 he became an independent insurance agent with an office in Browns Valley, selling the business in 1994. He had been a director and president of Tara Mutual Insurance Co. of Wheaton, director of the Browns Valley Creamery from 1951-1968, and a member of the Legion, the VFW and the Browns Valley Area Town and Country and also helped with the Browns Valley food shelf for many years.
He is survived by his wife Hildur of Graceville; two daughters, Elaine (Tom) Schach of Fair Play, MO and Maureen (Horace) Ross of Mickelton, NJ; two sons, Douglas (Carol) Dyer of Granite Falls and Nolan (Sharon) Dyer of Independence, MO; four grandchildren, Allison and Bethany Dyer of Fargo, ND: Brian Schach of Fair Play, MO; and Stuart Ross of Mickelton, MO; one sister, two brothers, two sisters-in-law and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister and two brothers.
The Larson Funeral Home of Browns Valley handled arrangements.

Viola Marcella Benson
Viola Marcella Benson, 85, of Granite Falls, died Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2001 at the Granite Falls Municipal Hospital. Her funeral was held Saturday, Feb. 17, at St. Paul Lutheran Church of Granite Falls with Pastor Randall Moritz officiating. Organist was Joan Lundell and special music was provided by the Dale Streblow family and the Micah Jenson family. Memories of the grandchildren was given by Tom Benson.
Honorary pallbearers were Mar-cella's grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Active pallbearers were Greg Benson, Mark Schafer, Jay Feiner, Todd Lecy, Tarryl Olson, Tom Benson and John Benson. Interment was in the church cemetery.
Viola Marcella Benson was born on June 21, 1915 in Crate Township, Chippewa County, to John and Christine (Johnson) Uttermark. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She attended country school and later received an honorary high school diploma from the Granite Falls high school on May 7, 2000.
Marcella married Archie Benson on June 21, 1933. They farmed in Chip-pewa and Yellow Medicine counties. In 1947 they purchased a farm east of Granite Falls where the family resided until 1969 when Marcella moved to her residence in Granite Falls where she resided until 1998.
Marcella was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. For the past two and one-half years, she had been a resident of the Granite Falls Manor.
She is survived by her children, Archie Benson of Granite Falls, Bar-bara (and Dan) Schafer of Rochester, Dr. Robert (and Barb) Benson of Duluth; Ruth Ann (and Bob) Lecy, Paul (and Barb) Benson, Joe (and Judy) Benson, Margie (and Bruce) Bottge, and Deborah (and David) Lidstrom, all of Granite Falls; two sisters, Hazel Harguth of Clara City and Inez Quigley of Sunburg; 17 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1962, an infant son Bradley in 1947, one grandson, Jon Lecy in 1980; two brothers, Fred and Harold Uttermark and two sisters, Vera Hanen and Ruth Hansen.

Margret Nelson
Margret Jennie Nelson, 84, died Monday, March 26, 2001, at Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo. Her funeral was held Friday, March 30, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Montevideo with Pastor Lois Knutson officiating. Organist was Lois Baker. Soloist was Tracy Reynolds.
Pallbearers were Dr. Tom Birkey, Ingmar Molde, Darwin Tebeest, Luthard Molde, Donald Lofthus and Stephen Torvik. Interment was in Sunset Memorial Cemetery in Montevideo.
Margret Jennie Nelson was born on March 28, 1916 in Sauk Rapids to James and Serene Lund. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and grew up in the Sauk Rapids area. She graduated from Sauk Rapids High School and worked for a time at the Foley courthouse. She then attended St. Cloud Business College.
Margret worked for the War Department in Washington, D.C. and Philadelphia and on Nov. 1, 1947, she married John P. Nelson. They made their home in Montevideo where John practiced law with his partner, Sig Oyen.
Margret was active in church and civic organizations, serving on the Montevideo Board of Education and teaching Sunday School. She was a member of the Ruth Circle, and held several offices in the ALCW at Our Savior's. She also volunteered time with the Girl Scouts and was a member of the 300 Club.
She is survived by her daughters, Janice Nelson; Elizabeth (and David) Gilbertson; her sister, Florence Lund; grandchildren, Britt and Erik Gilbertson, Anna and Kara Nelson, all of Montevideo.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1997, one brother and four sisters.

Eleanor Hewitt
Eleanor R. Hewitt, 81, died Thursday, June 28, 2001. Her funeral service was held Tuesday, July 3, at St. John's Lutheran Church of Wood Lake with Pastor Dale Schliewe officiating. Organist was Rick Grieger.
Pallbearers were Steve Vaught, Steve Hewitt, Marc Hewitt, Paul Ratz, Andrew Hewitt, Charles Hewitt and David Haugly. Interment was in the church cemetery.
Eleanor Ruth Hewitt was born June 20, 1920 on the family farm in Lincoln County to Ferdinand and Clara Mueller. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She graduated from Verdi High School.
She married Neal Hewitt on June 15, 1938. She was a homemaker and helped her husband farm. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and of the Women's Society. She spent winters in Alamo, TX.
She is survived by two sons, Gordon (& Loretta) and Rick (& Colleen) of Granite Falls; daughter-in-law Marge of Wood Lake; seven grandchildren: Laurie (& Steve) Vaught of Germantown, TN, Sheri (& Rev. David) Haugly of Fond du Lac, WI, Steve (& Jill) Hewitt of Mankato, Stacy (& Paul) Ratz of Fergus Falls, Marc (& Lisa) Hewitt of Brooklyn Park, Charles and Andrew Hewitt of Granite Falls; nine great-grandchildren: Kristy and Ashley Vaught, Michael, Sarah, Daniel and Rachel Haugly, Emily and Ryan Ratz and Jenna Hewitt; two sisters, Emma (& Walt) Albu of Tyler, Gladys (& Tom) Davis of Lake Benton, brothers-in-law Bob Elving and Arnie Jasperson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, son Gary, grandson Craig Hewitt and three sisters, Esther John-son, Alma Jasperson and Ada Elving.

John Ockwig
John Ockwig, 89, died Nov. 28, 2001 at Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo. His funeral was held Saturday, Dec. 1, at Trinity Lutheran Church of Montevideo with Pastor Michael Briggs officiating. Organist was Mary Grey with vocal music by Beth Hampton. Burial was in the Sunset Memorial Cemetery.

Willis Borning
Willis Borning, 93, died Feb. 4, 2002 at Weiner Memorial Nursing Home in Marshall. His funeral was held Feb. 9 at Good Shepherd Lutheran in Marshall with burial in St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery in Granite Falls.

Michael Duis
Michael Duis, 43, of Granite Falls, died July 28, 2002 in Rapid City, SD at the Rapid City Regional Hospital. Mass of the Resurrection was held Aug. 2 at St. Andrew Catholic Church of Granite Falls with Fr. Jim Devorak officiating. Song leader was Sharon Rupp and accompanist Joan Lundell.

Arnold Leppke
Arnold Leppke, 83, of Montevideo, died at his home on Friday, Oct. 4, 2002. His funeral was held on Oct. 10, at St. John's Lutheran Church of Omro Township with Pastor Allen Lonnquist officiating. Organist was Karen Mamer. Soloist was Mark Fenske.

S. Elaine Ripley
S. Elaine (Mrs. Wayne) Ripley, 63, of Maynard, died at her home on Sunday, Dec. 15, 2002. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 19, at the Wing-Bain Funeral Home Chapel in Montevideo with the Rev. Sue Wilhem officiating. Visitation, with no reviewal, will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, starting at 12 noon.

Clarence Hemsing
Clarence Hemsing, 79, of Sartell and formerly of St. Cloud, died Feb. 4, 2003. Graveside services were held Feb. 7 at Maynard Lutheran Cemetery in Maynard with Lindsay Glade officiating.

Viola Bruss
Viola Bruss Viola Bruss age 92 of rural Echo, died Friday, March 21, 2003 in Parkview Home in Belview. The Sunset Burial Association of Echo handled the arrangements.

Terry Dolen
Terry K. Dolen, 45, of Montevideo, died Sunday evening near Barnsville, the result of injuries received in an automobile accident. Funeral services were held on Friday, March 21, at 10:30 AM at Salem Lutheran Church in Montevideo with Pastor Wayne D. Kopitzke officiating. Burial was in LaBolt City Cemetery, LaBolt SD.

Jonard Slettedahl
Jonard Slettedahl, age 90 of Granite Manor in Granite Falls, formerly of Echo, died Monday in Granite Manor. Services will be held at 2:00 P. M. Thursday, March 27, 2003 in Grace Lutheran Church in Echo with burial in the Echo Cemetery. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 4 until 7:00 p.m. in Sunset Funeral Home in Echo and continue Thursday one hour prior to services in Grace Lutheran Church in Echo. Military rites will be conducted by the Echo American Legion Post. The Sunset Burial Association of Echo is handling the arrangements.
