Marion Holien, 92, of Granite Falls, died Thursday, March 20, 2003, at the Granite Falls Manor. Funeral services were held on Monday, March 24, 2003, at 1:30 p.m. at Hawk Creek Lutheran Church, rural Sacred Heart. Burial will was held in the church cemetery. Funeral arrangements were with the Wing-Bain Funeral Home of Granite Falls for Mrs. Marion Holien.

Carole Stelter
Carole Stelter, 66, died March 18, 2003 in the Redwood Area Hospital at the age of 66 years. Her funeral was held Saturday, March 22 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Wood Lake. Burial took place in the Vesta Cemetery, with Kulow Funeral Service of Echo made the arrangements. Casket bearers were Lauris Cole, Doug Hagen, Rich Hagen, Jon Thostenson, Scott Hall and Steve Hall. Honorary casket bearers were Gordon and Adris Alexander, Henry and Mary Jo Boots, Phil and Janean McKay, Norm and Marlene Ramey, John and Marianne Waidelich and Elfriede Zamzow.

Harriet Erva Larson-Newcomer
Harriet Erva Larson-Newcomer passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 16, 2003, in Littleton, Colorado, at the home of her daughter, Carol Jeske. Memorial Services will be held Saturday, March 29, 2:00pm at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Montevideo. Funeral arrangements are by Wing-Bain Funeral Home.

Shirley Holt age 72 of Belview, died Sunday, March 23, 2003 in Parkview Home in Belview. Memorials are referred to Our Savior's Lutheran Church or the Parkview Home in Belview. The Sunset Burial Association of Echo is handling the arrangements.

Walter Ellingboe
Walter Ellingboe, age 83, of Granite Falls died Monday morning at the Granite Falls Manor. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at Wang Lutheran Church in rural Maynard with Pastor Mary Hovland officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Olive Rude
Olive Rude, 94, died July 20, 2003. Her funeral will be held on Thursday, July 24, at 11 a.m. at Wing-Bain Funeral Home Chapel in Granite Falls with Pastor Bob Knutson officiating. Eleanor Sandquist is organist. Pallbearers are Verne Anderson, Vernon Hanson, Tom Edman, Bill Wusso, Jerry Growe and Thoralf Benson. Burial will be in Hillcrest cemetery of Granite Falls. Visitation and reviewal is one hour prior to the funeral service. Olive Pauline Rude was born Aug. 29, 1908 in rural Rockham, SD to Frank and Caroline (Greener) Benning. She graduated from Rockham High School in 1929. She married Henry Rude on May 27, 1931. They moved to rural Sacred Heart in 1934 where they farmed until buying their farm eight miles west of Granite Falls in 1940. She was an active member of Hawk Creek Lutheran Church. In 1969 they sold the farm and moved into Granite Falls and joined Granite Falls Lutheran Church. Olive had at one time worked at the Fashion Shop, she did hardanger work and played the piano until age 94. She had lived at Henry Hill Apartments for several years after selling her home in Granite Falls. She moved into the Granite Manor in 2001. Olive is survived by her two children, Odell (Carol) Rude, Granite Falls, and Zelda (Dave) Sund, Fergus Falls; eight grandchildren: Tammy (Tom) Edman, Connie (Bill) Wussow, Brenda (Jerry) Growe, Douglas (Connie) Rude, Daniel Rude, Terry Irons and Amy (Rich) Kroeplin; 12 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, two sisters, her husband Henry in 1995, one granddaughter Jody in 1996 and one great-great grandson Nickolas in 1993.

Marguerite Robertson
Marguerite Robertson, 93, of Granite Falls, died July 11, 2003 at the Granite Falls Hospital. Memorial services will be held on Friday, July 25, at 11 a.m. at the Granite Falls Lutheran Church. Burial will be held at Lincoln Memorial Park, Lincoln, NE. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church on Friday. Marguerite C. Robertson was born Jan. 1, 1910 to Cleveland and Ida Belle (Martin) Calkins in Havelock, NE. She was baptized at the Gospel Tabernacle Church in Havelock. She graduated from Havelock High School in 1928. She married Francis Robertson on March 29, 1930. Marguerite was a beautician and was a salesclerk during WWII while her husband worked on the Al-CAN Highway. They were also partners in the United Auto Supply Company in Mankato. She was a member of the Eastern Star for over 50 years, active with the American Red Cross and a member of the Legion Auxiliary. She was also a long-time and past member of the First Christian Church of Mankato. She is survived by her daughter Shirley (and Wally) Thom of Granite Falls; grandsons: David (& Jan) Thom of Custer, SD; Steven (& Paula) Thom of Prior Lake, and Bradley (& Ruth) Thom of Glencoe; seven great-grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter; one sister-in-law Margaret Calkins of Yuma, AZ and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1991, four brothers and two great-grandsons. Wing-Bain Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Helen Ingstad
Helen Ingstad, 90, of Montevideo, died July 17, 2003 at Luther Haven Nursing Home where she had lived since August 1996. Her funeral was held July 19 at Trinity Lutheran Church of Montevideo with Pastor Kathryn L. Skoglund officiating. Organist was Mary Deitemeyer and soloist was Lori Petersen. Active pallbearers were Janet Nelson, Mary Skoglund, Karen Brewers, Lynn Suter and Chris Petersen, Kyle Petersen. Honorary pallbearers were Alan Petersen, Judy Youngren, Mary Jo Rushin, Jon Petersen, Peter Petersen and Keith Petersen. Interment was in Sunset Memorial Cemetery. Helen Ingstad was born Nov. 23, 1912 to Thomas and Mary (Mjunes) Ingstad in Montevideo. She spent her entire life in Montevideo and was a lifetime member of Trinity Lutheran Church where she was baptized and confirmed. She was an active member in the church. Prior to working in several retail stores in Montevideo, she worked as a housekeeper for several families. Helen is survived by nieces and nephews: Alfred (& Betty) Petersen of Clara City; Joyce Peterson (& Vernon) Youngren of Battle Lake and Mesa, AZ; Harold (Sharon) Petersen of Murdock; Mary Ingstad Smallwood of Bainbridge Island, WA and Dean (& Carol) Ingstad of Tucson, Az; cousins Minerva Wik of Paynesvile and Iola Borene of Montevideo, as well as members of their families. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Alfie (Ingstad) Peterson and three brothers, Louie, Harold and Raymond.
Wing-Bain Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Cecilia Buesing
Cecilia Buesing, 89, died July 19, 2003, at the Minneota Manor. Her funeral will be held July 24 at 1:30 p.m. at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Granite Falls with Father Bill Sprigler officiating. Soloist will be Todd Sharkey. Visitation is July 23 from 6-8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church. Honorary pallbearers are her grandchildren. Pallbearers are Jason, Craig, Michael, Derek and Aaron Buesing; Chad Lund, Kevin Sharkey and John Babatz. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Cecilia Alida Jennen was born March 9, 1914, in Ghent to Michael and Helene Jennen. She grew up in the Ghent and Minneota area, and went to St. Agnes School. On August 30, 1934, she married Ernest Buesing. They farmed and in 1948 bought a farm near Granite Falls. Ernie died in 1977 and Cecilia moved to her home in Granite Falls in 1979. She moved to Granite Ridge in 1998. From there she resided at Fieldcrest in Cottonwood and the Minneota Manor in 2000. Cecilia was a member of the CCW, International Affairs Guild, and Minnesota Falls Homemakers Club. Cecilia completed her GED in her early 70’s.
She is survived by daughters: Marilyn (and Clarence) Borgheiinck of Winthrop, Karen Lund of Ft. Myers, FL, and Annette (and Glenn) Sharkey of Hanley Falls; sons: Roger (and Shirley) Buesing of Renville, Gerald (and Brenda) Buesing of Phoenix, AZ, Kenneth (and Valerie) Buesing of Denver, CO, Dean (and Barbara) Buesing of Granite Falls, and Don (and Betty) Buesing of Granite Falls; daughter-in-law Mary Buesing of Colorado Springs, CO; 26 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; two sisters-in-law; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by daughter Lucille in infancy; son Thomas; son-in-law Robert Babatz; two grandchildren Lisa Buesing and Steven Babatz; and great-grandchild, Sara Babatz. Lynner Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Karl F. Pipke
Karl Frederick Pipke, 84, of Boyd, died July 18, 2003 at Johnson Memorial Hospital in Dawson. Funeral services were held July 22, at St. John’s Lutheran Church with Pastor Allen Lonnquist officiating. Organist was Karen Mamer. Casketbearers were Jeff Bailey, Brandon Satre, Marlin Satre, Mike Walters, Nick Walters, David Wiegers. Burial was in the church cemetery. Karl Frederick Pipke was born August 10, 1918 at the home of his parents Edward and Elizabeth (Golnick) Pipke in Omro Township. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. Karl attended St. John’s Parochial School and District #80. Karl farmed with his brothers Ruben and Paul in Omro Township his entire life. He was a life-long member of St. John’s Lutheran Church. He is survived by his sister Adele of Boyd; his cousins Elda Kopitzke and Lydia Stelter; along with other relatives and friends. Karl was preceded in death by his father Edward in 1955; mother Elizabeth in 1960; brother Ruben in 1996; and his brother Paul in 2003. Lynner Funeral Home of Clarkfield was in charge of the arrangements

William (Bill) O. Wathern
William Wathern, 79, of Boyd died July 17, 2003 at the Wiener Memorial Long Term Care Facility at Marshall. Funeral services were July 21, 2003 at Zion Lutheran Church, with Pastor Scott Muehlberg officiating. Norma Streich was the organist and Barb Berg the soloist. Honorary casketbearers were Justin, Adam and Karl Domogalla; Ryan and Cerissa Ling; Chad and Callin Lindemann and Sarah Clark. Casketbearers were James Bach, Greg Donovan, Odel Halverson, Orville Haugen, Craig Hermanson, Emil Streich. Burial was in the Ness Lutheran Cemetery. Military rites by VFW Post 1656, Madison with taps by Carlyle Larsen. William O. (Bill) Wathern was born Nov. 12, 1923 to William and Lola (Randall) Wathern in Swatara. He was baptized and confirmed in the Methodist faith. He graduated from the Swatara Schools. Following high school, Bill moved to Seattle, WA and worked in the shipyards until entering the U.S. Navy. He was a veteran of World War II. Bill married to Margaret Sjolie on May 17, 1947. She died in 1985. Three daughters were born. Bill and Margaret farmed and raised their children near Madison. Bill married Lois Skallen of Boyd on July 23, 1988. Bill and Lois made their home in rural Boyd.
Bill worked as a welder in his younger days but his major occupation was farming. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church. Bill is survived by his wife, Lois; daughters: Gloria Mittelstadt and Diane Clark of Seattle, WA and JoAnn Domogalla of Alexandria; stepdaughter Monica Lindemann of Marshall; sister Jean of Little Canada; eight grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Irma; and wife Margaret.
Lynner Funeral Home of Clarkfield was in charge of the arrangements.

Edward Cullinan
Edward Cullinan, 82, of Montevideo, died July 17, 2003 at Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo. His funeral was held July 21 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church with Pastor Donald McKee officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Sunset Memorial Cemetery.
Edward Francis Cullinan was born July 2, 1921 in New York to John and Cecelia (Gilmore) Cullinan. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He grew up in New York and graduated from Rockaway High School in Queens. He served his country during World War II in the U.S.A.F. as a mechanic stationed in Italy. Upon his honorable discharge he returned to the states and he married Margaret Schneider on Sept. 8, 1946. On Feb. 28, 1969, Ed married Dorothy Korner. Dorothy died in 1996 in Arizona. Ed married Johanna Cronin on July 2, 1997. During his active years Ed was a police officer in New Jersey for 17 years. He was a member of the Legion, the VFW, the Elks Club and Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. Ed is survived by his wife Johanna of Montevideo; two sons, Edward J. (& Bergit) Cullinan of Dover, TN and Daniel Cullinan of Canton, MI; two daughters, Lyn (& Jerry) Clark of Honsdale, PA, and Laurie Cullinan of Berkley, MI; two stepsons, Charles (& Essie) Korner of Tempe, AZ and Bill (& Joyce) Korner of Avenel, NJ; two brothers, Daniel (& Winifred) Cullinan of Tyler, TX and John W. (& Frances) Cullinan of Rockledge, FL; 10 grandchildren and extended family. Wing-Bain Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Elvin Huseby
Elvin Huseby, 95, died July 18, 2003 at the Granite Falls Manor. His funeral was held July 22 at the Wing-Bain Funeral Home Chapel in Granite Falls with Pastor Bob Knutson officiating. Pallbearers were friends and family. Interment was in the Granite Falls City Cemetery. Elvin Huseby was born on March 30, 1908 in northern Minnesota near Graceton to Gregor and Laura Huseby. He grew up and attended school in the Graceton area and on Dec. 3, 1931, he married Myrtle Gunderson. Elvin farmed with his wife for 35 years in the Morris area. They then resided for three years near Lake Louise. Following that, they moved to Lake Oscar for six years and eventually moved to Granite Falls in 1986. He is survived by his son George Huseby of Minneapolis; two daughters, Violet Lunde of Granite Falls and Myrtle Hamre of Cyrus; one sister Pearl Rosaasen of Sacred Heart; 12 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife (in 1994); three brothers, George, John and Gust; three sisters: Clara, Lila and Gertie; three grandsons, Lonnie Hildahl, Wayne Hildahl and Jerry Hamre and two sons-in-law, Glen Lunde and Julian Hamre.

Brianna Rachel Lalim
John and Angie Lalim of Roseau wish to announce the birth of their daughter, Brianna Rachel. Brianna was born July 15, 2003 and weighed 8 lbs., 1 oz. and was 20 1/2 inches long. Grandparents are Virginia Dahl and the late David Sistad of Roseau, Terry and Irene Holen of Montevideo and Ron and Kathy Lalim of St. Paul. Great-grandparents are Bernice Sistad of Grygla, Dee Marxen of Brainerd and Dennis and Idell Lalim of Willmar.
