Robert Isaackson
Robert G. Isaackson, 80, of Cottonwood, died April 21, 2004 at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar. His funeral was held April 24 at Christ Lutheran Church in Cottonwood with Pastor Gwen Arneson officiating. Organist was Randy Morken and soloist, Gary Morken.
Honorary casketbearers were Tanner and Tate Eining; Todd, Scott and Jeff Boehne; Kari Kroger; Sara Ward and Erin Scandrett. Casketbearers were Clint, Greg and Tom Isaackson; George and Gordon Ericson; Mike and Bruce Kompelien and Jason and Nathan Idso. Interment was in the church cemetery.
Robert George Isaackson was born on Nov. 1, 1923 near Cottonwood to Theodore and Emilia (Loe) Isaackson. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He graduated from Cottonwood public school in 1941.
Robert married Virginia Kompelien on Oct. 6, 1945. They farmed north of Cottonwood and moved into Cottonwood in 1981. Robert was a member of Christ Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his wife Virginia of Cottonwood; three children: Sandra (Edward) Boehne of Cottonwood; Larry (Bev) Isaackson of Cottonwood; and Pam Greene of Sioux Falls, SD; three grandsons: Todd (Gail) Boehne of White Bear Lake; Scott (Jill) Boehne of Cottonwood, and Jeff Boehne of Madison, SD; three step-granddaughters: Kari (Chris) Kroger of Columbus, OH; Sara (Bill) Ward of Walnut Creek, CA, and Erin (Jake) Schandrett of Ephrata, PA; four great-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren; sister Mildred Ericson of Sleepy Eye, and brother Jim Isaackson of Cottonwood, and special family friend Jane Eining of Sioux Falls, SD.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
Kulow Funeral Service handled arrangements.

Ralph Parks
Ralph Parks, 77, of Granite Falls, died April 20, 2004, at the Granite Falls Hospital. His funeral was held April 23 at Granite Falls Lutheran Church with Pastor Bob Knutson officiating. Eleanor Sandquist was organist and Wes Grannes, soloist.
Pallbearers were the Ames Fire Dept.; Clint Petersen, Kevin Anderson, John Johnson, Lyle Scandrett, Russ Scott and Tim Hilts. Military honors were by the VFW and the Legion. Burial was in the Granite Falls City Cemetery.
Ralph Parks Jr. was born on Jan. 13 1927 in Lyford, TX to Ralph Sr. and Delilah Parks. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He grew up in Turin, IA and graduated from Castana High School in Iowa.
In 1944 Ralph served his country during World War II in the United States Navy participating in the Southern Pacific Theatre and was honorably discharged at the end of the war.
He married Deloris Jean Hegna on May 3, 1956. He worked as an engineer in Minnesota and then joined the Cedar Rapids Fire Dept. They moved to Ames in 1969 and he joined the Ames Fire Dept. and was fire chief from 1969 to 1992. Ralph was a life-time member of the American Legion and VFW and served as past commander for both organizations. He was also a member of the Disabled American Veterans. He was a Hospice volunteer and a Prairie 5 mealsite volunteer. He served on the Pioneerland Library Council and was active with the International Assn. of Fire Chiefs.
He is survived by two daughters: Stacey & Lisa) of Granite Falls and Becki (& Mark) Crowe of Washington; one son Kent Parks of Oregon; his mother Delilah of South Sioux City, NE: three sisters: Delores Parks of Pittsburgh, PA; Shirley Struble of Rock Island, IL and Kay Danner of Rock Island, IL; one brother Vaughn (& Velma) Parks of Albuquerque, NM; sisters-in-law: Louise (& Cliff) Kramer of Loretto and Ardis Kjersten of Sacred Heart, and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, the Rev. Ralph Parks Sr. and his wife Deloris in 2001.

Martin Rebers
Martin Rebers, 91, of Walker, died April 27, 2004. His funeral was held May 1 at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church of Bemidji with Pastor Lon Kuether officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Martin George Rebers was born on Oct. 23, 1912 to George and Caroline (Kirschbaum) Rebers at Granite Falls. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He attended grade school in Granite Falls. He farmed in the Cottonwood and Hazel Run area. He married Annamarie Schwartz on June 10, 1945 in Cottonwood. The couple farmed south of Hazel Run for 21 years and retired in January of 1966. They bought a summer resort south of Cass Lake and retired from there in 1976.
He and Annamarie together with four other couples formed a WELS church group later to be known as St. Mark’s Lutheran Church of Bemidji.
He is survived by his three children: Caroline (Marvin) Schneider of St. Frances, Martin Rebers Jr. (Deb) of Fort Dodge, IA; Kenneth Rebers (Judy) of Austin, TX, seven grandchildren, one great-grandson, 13 nieces and nephews, one sister, Helma Schwartz of Vesta; two sisters-in-law Elda Rebers of Belview and Marcella Rebers of Belle Plaine.
He was preceded in death by his wife Annamarie Rebers, parents, four brothers, one sister and one nephew.
Arrangements were by Thomas-Dennis Funeral Home, Walker, MN 56484.

Myrtle Borning
Myrtle Borning, 90, of Woodbury, formerly of Marshall, died May 2, 2004 at United Hospital in St. Paul. Her funeral will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, May 7, at St. John Lutheran Church in Woodbury with Rev. Jonathan Marx-hausen officiating. Visitation will be from noon until the time of the service on Friday at the church. Burial will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 8, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery in Granite Falls with Rev. Keith Becknase officiating.
Myrtle Laura Borning was born Dec. 9, 1913 in rural Claremont to Albert and Anna Hargefeld. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She was a graduate of Owatonna High School and Mankato Commercial College, after which she was employed as a legal secretary.
Myrtle married Willis Borning on Oct. 16, 1940. After World War II they moved to Echo until 1971 when they moved to Granite Falls. Myrtle worked at Neal’s Variety and Ben Franklin Store until she retired in 1982. In May of 1995 they moved to Hill Street Place in Marshall. And in October of 2003 she moved to the Twin Cities area. Myrtle was a member of the LWML and taught Sunday School.
She is survived by two sons: Tom of Inver Grove Heights and Gary (and Judith) of Diamond Bar, CA; daughter Eileen (and Ed) Ocone of Woodbury; son-in-law Cliff Williams of Eureka, CA; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 2002, daughter Janet Williams in 1989, two brothers and five sisters.

Lloyd Stratmoen
Lloyd D. Stratmoen, 86, of Granite Falls, died April 28, 2004, at the Granite Falls Municipal Hospital. His funeral was held May 1 at Granite Falls Lutheran Church with Pastors Bob Knutson and Liza Simpson officiating. Burial was in Hillcrest Cemetery.
Lloyd Delmar Stratmoen was born on June 9, 1917 in rural Dawson to Leif and Hannah Stratmoen. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.
Lloyd joined the Minnesota National Guard and served for six years before entering the regular Army. He took his training at Camp Clairborne, LA and from there was sent to Northern Ireland and served under Gen. George Patton during the invasion of North Africa and Italy. He received a battlefield commission in Naples before going to fight in Anzio, where he was wounded in action. Following his honorable discharge in October of 1945, Lloyd served an additional five years in the Army reserve in Dawson. He was the recipient of a Purple Heart, the Bronze Star and other wartime honors.
On Dec. 23, 1944, Lloyd married Hazel Crouse in Dawson. He worked in retail business and industry and was a lifetime member of the Granite Falls American Legion, Veterans of Foreign War and the DAV. He was also a faithful member of Granite Falls Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his wife Hazel of Granite Falls; his three daughters, Ann (& Duaine) Amundson of Willmar; Liz (& Doug) Schuler of Mascoutah, IL and Barb (& Jerry) Gustafson of Granite Falls; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and a sister, Doris Nash.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers and one great-grandson.

Annie Gerdes
Annie Gerdes, 86, died May 26, 2004, at Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo. Her funeral was held May 29 at Hope Reformed Church in Montevideo with Pastor Don Plantinga officiating. Organist was Bev Sneller and soloist, Kelly Snell.
Pallbearers were grandchildren: Ryan, Darren and Stacy Manthey; Mindi Maksinchuk; Brandon, Brent, Nichaol and Angela Gerdes; Jody Brown; Tony, April and Michelle Van Roekel; and Berkeley and Brady Russ. Interment was in Terrace Lawn Memory Gardens in Montevideo.
Annie Gesina Gerdes was born Dec. 1, 1917 to John and Annie (Myer) Meyer in Holland Township. She was baptized and confirmed at Raymond Lutheran Church. She married Elmer Gerdes on June 27, 1941.
She is survived by three daughters: Donna (& Ronald) Manthey of Hazel Run; Margie (& Jerry) Van Roekel of Mesa, AZ, and Arlene Mansfield of Phoenix, AZ; three sons: Jerry (& Janice) Gerdes of Mesa, AZ; Randy (& Maggie) Gerdes of Loveland, CO, and John (& Pam) Gerdes of Montevideo; 14 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; son Marvin; one granddaughter; three brothers and two sisters.

Maryanne Stavne
Maryanne Stavne, 40, of Litchfield Park died May 12, 2004, in Phoenix, AZ. She was born Aug. 11, 1963 in Phoenix. She worked a a health-care provider.
Maryanne is survived by her husband Michael Stavne of Granite Falls; two daughters, Deanna Clark of Litchfield Park and Alyssa Stavne of Granite Falls; one son, Joshua Stavne of Granite Falls; two sisters, Terri McComb of Tucson and Stacey Price of St. Cloud; one brother, Michael McComb of Goodyear and three grandchildren.
A gathering in Maryanne’s name is planned for Saturday, June 12, from 1-4 p.m. to be held at the Memorial Park’s small shelter on the south side.

Art Kuehn
Art Kuehn, 94, of Echo, died May 25, 2004 in Granite Falls Hospital. Services were held May 29 in Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Echo with Rev. Paul Henning officiating. Organist was Kathy LaVoy.
Pallbearers were Arden and Allyn Bendix, Marvin Stelter, Tom Garvin, Burton and Daryl Kuehn. Burial was in the Vesta Cemetery.
Arthur Carl Kuehn was born April 18, 1910 in Echo Township to Alexander R. and Bertha (Muenchow) Kuehn. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. Art grew up on the family farm and attended country school. After his schooling he farmed with his family in Echo Township before moving to his farm northwest of Wood Lake where he farmed until retiring in 1978 and moving into Echo. Art farmed for 44 years. He was a member of Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Echo and had served on the board of directors for the Wood Lake Elevator for several years.
He is survived by his brother Dr. George Kuehn and wife Marian of Renville; sister-in-law Deloris Seime of Belview, a grand-nephew Steven Pearson of Echo and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers: Paul William, Alexander, Gerhold, Walter and Harold, and six sisters: Emma Stelter, Alma Stelter, Clara Roepke, Ella Kuehn, Lorena Bendix and Viola Kuehn.
Sunset Funeral & Cremation Association handled arrangements.

Bert Doesken
Bert Doesken, 90, of Clara City, died July 18, 2004, at the Clara City Care Center. Funeral services were held on July 21 at the Bethany Reformed Church with Pastor Don Plantiga officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery
Bertus Doesken was born on Feb. 4, 1914 to Bernhardt and Ella (Koster) Doesken, in Crate Township, Chippewa County. He was baptized on Oct. 11, 1914. He attended country school.
He married Hazel Margaret Prekker on March 2, 1937 in Clara City. Bert had his confessional of faith March 19, 1937. He farmed all his life in Chippewa County, retiring in 1978 and moving to Clara City.
He is survived by his daughter Sally (& Bob) Thoma) of Granite Falls; his son Barry Doesken of Minneapolis; two grandchildren: Jon (& Heidi) Thoma of Litchfield and Mike Thoma (& special friend Cassie) of Sioux City, IA; two great-grandchildren: Megan and Justin Thoma of Litchfield; three sisters, Tille Prekker of Clara City; Barbara (& Marvin) Draeger of Montevideo and Viola Stewart of Tacoma, WA and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Hazel in 1982, and two brothers, Edward and Harry.
