Lyle Grieger, 91 of Wood Lake, died Saturday, February 6, 2010 in the Granite Falls Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, February 10, in St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Wood Lake.

Sophie Lecy, 88, of Granite Falls, died Tuesday, January 26, 2010 at the Granite Falls Manor. Funeral services were held on Saturday, January 30 at Wang Lutheran Church in rural Maynard.

Verna Myhre
Verna Myhre, 85 of Montevideo, died Sunday, January 24, 2010 at Luther Haven Nursing Home. Funeral services were held on Friday, January 29 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Montevideo.

Sheldon Curtis Westre
Sheldon C. Westre, 88, formerly of Clarkfield, died on Thursday, January 28, 2010 at the Dow Rummel Nursing Home in Sioux Falls, South Dakota where he was a resident.

Verna D. Myhre
Verna D. Myhre, 85, of Montevideo, died Sunday, January 24, 2010 at Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo.

Christopher L. Paul
Christopher Lee Paul, 34, of Belle Plaine, formerly of Jordan, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, January 14, 2010 in Belle Plaine.

Eila L. Akre
Eila L. Akre, 81, died on January 25, 2010 after battling Renal failure.
On Friday, January 29, Graveside Services will be held at 1 p.m. at Newport Cemetery and a Memorial Service at 2 p.m. at the American Lutheran Church.
Viewing will be at Sherman-Knapp Funeral Home on January 28, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and January 29 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Donald R. Nelson
The spirit and soul of Donald Raymond Nelson, age 90, were freed from this fragile life on Friday, October 7, 2011. Don, held Clarkfield as his home for most of his life. He stepped into eternal glory from his latest residence in Colorado Springs, CO where he was living with his son, Chris, for the past 3 years. He was released from his frail body to receive an incorruptible one in the presence of God.
Funeral services will be held Friday, October 14 at 11:00 a.m. at Community Bible Church in Montevideo, officiated by the Rev. Bruce Jarmin. Burial will follow at the Clarkfield City Cemetery in Clarkfield.
Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 13, at Lynner Funeral Home in Clarkfield.
Don was born in Clarkfield on November 11, 1920, the son of Adolph “Shorty” Nelson and Mabel Nelson. He spent his growing up years and most of his married years in Clarkfield. He married his high school sweetheart, Marjorie Elkjer, on February 10, 1945 while he was still serving in the Army Air Corp. As WWII drew to a close, they returned to Clarkfield. Don’s love for God and for his family was central to his life as he raised three children, teaching them a love for God and family. Don’s legacy continues in the lives he and Marge have touched through their many prayers, continual encouragements and tangible support within their family and with many in the community.

Patrick McDaniel
Patrick McDaniel, 52, of Granite Falls, died Wednesday, September 28, 2011, at the Granite Falls Manor.
Funeral services were held on Monday, October 3, 2011, at the Granite Falls Lutheran Church.
Patrick D. McDaniel was born March 27, 1959, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, the son of A.D. “Mac” and Lavern (Sundermann) McDaniel. He was baptized at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls in 1959 and confirmed at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in Watertown, South Dakota. As a young boy he enjoyed living on the farm and playing cowboys with his brothers. He was a member of the Altamont 4-H Club where he enjoyed showing livestock and going to the state fair. He was also a member of the FFA in high school and held numerous offices. He graduated from Clear Lake, South Dakota High School in 1977. He went on to attend Minnesota West Technical College in Granite Falls and studied Fluid Power Technology. While in college he was president of the Fluid Power Club and won several awards. Following graduation he moved to Ohio to work for N.J. Fauver Company. He was an award winning salesman and was innovative and inventive in making machines work and labor easier and more effective. In 1998, he transferred back to Granite Falls to work for Sunsource/Fauver. He retired on disability in 2003.

Corella Hamre
Corella Eleanora Hamre, 88, of Sacred Heart, died Monday, September 26, 2011, at the Granite Falls Manor.
Funeral services were held on Friday, September 30 at Hawk Creek Lutheran Church near Sacred Heart, officiated by the Rev. Dan Bowman. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Corella Eleanora Hamre was born October 15, 1922, near Belview to Olaf and Adella (Rakke) Oie. She graduated from Granite Falls High School in 1940. Corella was united in marriage to Harry Hamre on March 26, 1944, at the Granite Falls Lutheran Church. She was a member of Hawk Creek Lutheran Church, Ladies Auxiliary and Magdalene Circle, the Minnesota Farmers Union, was a 4-H Club Leader, the Sons of Norway, Valdres Samband, and the Wang Homemakers. She enjoyed gardening, reading, puzzles, playing cards, and quilting at church.

Evelyn Larson

Evelyn O. Larson, 99, a resident of Pioneer- Care in Fergus Falls, died Friday, September 30, 2011, at Lake Region Healthcare in Fergus Falls.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, October 15, 2011, at the PioneerCare Center in Fergus Falls with Chaplain Harry Olson officiating.
Interment will be at First Lutheran North Cemetery, Fergus Falls.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the PioneerCare Chapel Fund.
Olson Funeral Home in Fergus Falls is in charge of arrangements. Condolences may be sent online at www. olsonfuneralhome.com.

Marvin “Swede” Olson
Swede Olson, a long-time resident of Granite Falls and member of Granite Falls Lutheran Church, died Friday, September 30, at Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Omaha, Nebraska at age 79.
A celebration of life memorial service is planned for 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 8, at Granite Falls Lutheran Church with visitation one hour prior. Burial will be held at Hillcrest Cemetery.
Marvin Richard Olson was born to Olaf and Guro Olson on September 8, 1932 in Sioux Agency Township, Yellow Medicine County. He was baptized and confirmed into the Christian faith at Rock Valle Lutheran Church. As a young boy, Swede lived on a farm in the Minnesota River Valley near Echo, and attended a one-room country school. As a young teen he moved to Granite Falls with his parents where he attended Granite Falls High School and graduated in 1950. Swede enlisted in the United States Navy in 1951, served shipboard as a gunner’s mate during the Korean Conflict and did tours of duty in Cuba, Greenland and the Mediterranean Sea. He was decorated and honorably discharged in 1955. He returned to Granite Falls following the service where he met and married Evelyn “Evie” Mack, a school teacher. They had three sons: Lee, Craig, and Bruce.

Gerald Velde
Gerald Velde, 93, of Granite Falls, died Friday, September 30, 2011, at the Granite Falls Hospital.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, October 4, at the Yellow Medicine Lutheran Church in Hanley Falls. Burial was in the Yellow Medicine East Cemetery.
Gerald Jerome Velde was born January 28, 1918, the son of Tolerius and Ella Junette (Kalberg) Velde, in Minnesota Falls Township. He was baptized on June 10, 1918 and confirmed on May 28, 1933 at Yellow Medicine Lutheran Church in Hanley Falls. He attended school in Red Top and graduated from the Hanley Falls High School.
Gerald was united in marriage to Harriet Corinne Cole on June 1, 1941, at Yellow Medicine Lutheran Church. To this union 2 daughters and 1 son were born. Gerald was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. He was a very progressive and innovative lifelong farmer near Hanley Falls. Gerald was a member of the Farmer’s Co-op Elevator Board from 1966 until 1990, the Hazel Run Township Board, the Hanley Falls Co-op Lumber Company Board and Son’s of Norway. He was also active at Yellow Medicine Lutheran Church serving on several boards. Gerald enjoyed farming, traveling, reading, Arizona winters, golfing, wood carving and was very proud of his Norwegian heritage.

Elvira Helen Bruss
Elvira Helen Bruss, 90, formerly of Echo died Saturday, September 24, 2011 at Sweet Living Assisted Living in North Branch,
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, September 28, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Milaca, officiated by the Rev. Gary Fehring.
Interment was at Forest Hill Cemetery in Milaca.
Arrangements were with Peterson-Johnson Funeral Home of Milaca.

Dorothy K. Ulrich
Dorothy K. Ulrich, 95, of Clarkfield, formerly of Bellingham, passed away on Thursday, September 29, 2011.
Funeral services were held on Monday, October 3, at the United Methodist Church in Montevideo with Pastor Gwen Bohlke officiating.
Burial was at Belllingham City Cemetery in Bellingham.
Dorothy Kinsey Ulrich was born December 11, 1915 in Bromide, Oklahoma to Benjamin and Mattie (O’Donohue) Kinsey. She graduated from high school in Commerce, Oklahoma. Following high school. Dorothy worked at various domestic jobs and during WWII at a Shell Loading Plant in Parsons, Kansas.
She was united in marriage to Fred Ulrich on December 17, 1947 at the First Christian Church at Vinita, Oklahoma. The couple farmed near Bellingham until Fred’s death in 1967. In 1974 Dorothy moved to Clarkfield where she stayed with and cared for many elderly people in their homes. Dorothy was always an active gardener who especially loved flowers. She was a former member of the Clarkfield Garden Club. She was a faithful member of the Evangelical United Brethren Church of Bellingham and later Clarkfield and Montevideo United Methodist Churches.
