Margaret Weingartner
Margaret (Lynne) Weingartner passed away in Prescott Valley, Arizona on December 16, 2011.
She was born in Clarkfield on August 11, 1929.
She is survived by children Judy Gotchall and James W. of Arizona; five grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; brothers: Arden Lynne (Ethel) of Clarkfield; Stanley Lynne (Shirley) of Ortonville; twin sister Mary Solien (John) of Aitkin; and sister Elizabeth Nordwick (Harry) of California; nieces and nephews.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, Arden and Esther Lynne; husband Robert; brothers: Wesley, Richard and Ralph; and niece Ann Lynne.
Burial will be at Logan Military Cemetery in Denver, Colorado in January.

Esther V. Norem
Esther Viola (Benson) Norem, 87, Colorado Springs, Colorado, formerly of Granite Falls; died December 22, 2011.
Cremation has taken place and a service will be held in the spring of 2012 at Hope Lutheran Church, Wautoma, Wisconsin.
She was born December 28, 1923 to Norwegian immigrants, Adolph and Sina (Olson) Benson, at Sacred Heart. Esther was the youngest of thirteen children and graduated from Sacred Heart High School in 1942.
On June 4, 1946 Esther married Juell Ellsworth Norem at Glenwood. They moved to Aberdeen, South Dakota in 1948, and then in 1964 to Wautoma, Wisconsin. She returned alone to Granite Falls after Juell died in 1985. In 2009 she moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado where she resided with her daughter Candis.

Gary L. Johnson
Gary Leland Johnson. 70. of Clarkfield, passed away on December 19, 2011.
Funeral services were held on Friday, December 23 at New Life Church in Clarkfield, officiated by Pastor Doug Clevenger, with Military Rites by the Clarkfield American Legion, J. Ben Johnson Post #169. Burial was at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery in St. Paul.
Gary was born at home in Kerkhoven to Leland and Hazel (Bergstrand) Johnson on January 25, 1941. Gary attended grade school and part of high school in Benson until the family moved to Clarkfield in 1955. He graduated from Clarkfield High School in May of 1959 and joined the United States Navy. Following his discharge from the service he held many different positions in Minneapolis, Marshall, Clarkfield and finished his work life with early retirement from the United States Post office in Willmar when his sight began to fail.

Norma Formo Ormseth
Norma Formo Ormseth passed away on December 19, 2011 at her home at San Marcos, California.
Memorial Services are pending.

Ray John Walters
Ray John Walters, 62, of Moreno Valley, California, formerly of Clarkfield, passed away on December 19, 2011 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Los Angeles, California.
Funeral services were held at Miller-Jones Mortuary in Moreno Valley on December 27. He will be laid to rest at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery.
Ray Walters was born September 16, 1949 at Canby to parents Nick and Bernice (Eide) Walters. He was confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Omro Township. Ray attended Clarkfield High School and graduated with the class of 1967. Ray was united in marriage to Mary Carey in September of 1973.

Stanley Rache
Stanley Rache, 89, formerly of rural Granite Falls, died on Friday, December 23, 2011 at the Glen Oaks Nursing Home in New London.
Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, December 30, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Bergen Lutheran Church with Rev. Steve Weston officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be Thursday afternoon and evening with the family present from 5 - 7 p.m. and with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m.. at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo.
Stanley Arthur Rache was born on June 3, 1922 in Stony Run Township of Yellow Medicine Co., to Mons and Sophia (Simonson) Rache. He was baptized in June of 1922 and confirmed in September of 1935, both at Bergen Lutheran Church and attended school in District 14 in rural Stony Run Township. On September 16, 1956 he was united in marriage to Audrey Syde at the Maynard Baptist Church. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He farmed and lived in Stony Run Township until moving into Montevideo in 1995. In 2009 he moved to the Glen Oaks Care Center in New London. He was a lifelong member of Bergen Lutheran Church, serving on the cemetery board and as an usher for many years. He was also a member of the Farmers Union and the American Legion. He was an avid farmer and enjoyed camping, fishing and all things outdoors.

Ordell M. Alness
Ordell Marlow Alness, 81, of Bloomington, passed away peacefully at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis on December 24, 2011 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s and pneumonia.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 29, at 11:00 a.m. at Emmaus Lutheran Church, 8443 2nd Ave. S. in Bloomington. Visitation is Wednesday, December 28, from 4-7 p.m. at the Morris Nilsen Chapel, 6527 Portland Ave. S. in Richfield, and one hour prior to the service at church. Memorials may be directed to Emmaus Lutheran Church or to the Alzheimer’s Association.
Ordell was born August 22, 1930 in Clarkfield.
He was preceded in death by an infant son, Michael Dean Alness; his parents, Magnus and Inga (Foss) Alness; two sisters, Jorena Schrupp and Alvina Cole; and two brothers, Merlin and Inghart Alness.
Ordell is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Shirley; his children and their spouses, Brad (Vonnie), Susan (David) Johnson, Brenda (Bryon) Horak and Robert (Susan); 11 grandchildren and six great grandchildren; brother, Ornie Alness; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.
Arrangements are with Morris Nilsen Chapel.

Alice M. Laechelt
Alice M. Laechelt, 77, of Clarkfield, passed away on Friday, December 16, 2011 at Sylvan Place in Canby.
Funeral Services were held on Tuesday, December 20, at 10:30 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, in Tyro Township, officiated by Pastor Loren Kruse. Burial followed at Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Tyro Township, Yellow Medicine Co., Boyd.
Alice Marie was born to Anton and Mable (Lund) Wick on December 23, 1933. She grew up 2 miles northeast of Montevideo on the family farm. Alice was raised on the farm and attended school in Montevideo. She was baptized and confirmed at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Montevideo. She graduated from Montevideo High School in 1952. She worked at JC Penney while in high school.

Lucille M. O. Carter
Lucille M. O. Carter, formerly of Fargo, ND, died at the age of 94 at the Granite Falls Municipal Hospital and Manor, in Granite Falls.
A Memorial Service will be held at Granite Falls Lutheran Church on Thursday, December 22 at 4:00 p.m.
Lucille was born to Louis and Anna Merkens at their farm near Ada on April 17, 1917. She attended Pleasant View country school not far from the farm. She continued her education and graduated from Ada High School and attended Moorhead State University where she received her teaching certificate. She taught rural country school for five years. Later, she returned to teaching for several years in area towns. She and her husband farmed northwest of Ada until 1975 when they moved to Fargo, North Dakota due to her husband’s poor health.

Alma C. Lee
Alma C. Lee, 97, passed away at the Granite Falls Manor on Wednesday, December 14, 2011.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 22, at 1:30 p.m. from Christ Lutheran Church in Cottonwood with burial in the church Cemetery.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service from 12:30 - 1:30 p.m. Thursday.
Alma Catherine (Todt) Lee was born September 19, 1914 in Wood Lake Township, Yellow Medicine County, the youngest of eight children born to Carl and Doris (Sievers) Todt. She became a child of God through Holy Baptism on April 04, 1915 in St. John Lutheran Church, Wood Lake. She renewed her baptismal covenant through confirmation on 1928. She attended Wood Lake Public School and graduated in 1931. On May 27, 1939 she married Arthur O. Lee in Watertown, SD, and they farmed in the Cottonwood area until Art passed away on January 29, 1971. She was a homemaker all her life. In 1970 she went to work as a cook at the Cottonwood Public Schools and she retired as head cook in 1990. She continued to live in her home in Cottonwood and enjoyed her retirement there until September 2008 when she entered the Minneota Manor after a stay in the Granite Falls Hospital. She entered the Granite Falls Manor in November, 2011 after another hospital stay.

Gary L. Johnson
Gary L. Johnson, of Clarkfield, passed away on Monday, December 19, 2011 at St. Cloud Hospital.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 23, at 11:00 a.m., at New Life Church in Clarkfield.
Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 22 at Lynner Funeral Home in Clarkfield.
Lynner Funeral Home of Clarkfield is in charge of arrangements.
