Beverly A. Thostenson
Beverly Ann Long Thostenson 74, of Babbitt passed away peacefully on December 17, 2011.
She has requested no services. A memorial service will be held at The Hideaway in Babbitt at a future date.
She was born November 19, 1937 at home in Clarkfield, to Orville and Vina (Granell) Long.
Beverly graduated from Clarkfield High School in 1956. She met Don Thostenson and was married September 28, 1956. She and Don farmed for 12 years in Hanley Falls. In 1968 they moved to Babbitt where Don took a job as a bartender at the local liquor store, and then he transferred to the Babbitt Water and Waste Department where he eventually became a supervisor.

Sherryl “Dawn” Swenson
Sherryl “Dawn” Swenson, (Madison), 68, of Blaine. formerly of Clarkfield, passed away Monday, December 12, 2011 in St. Anthony.
There will be a Graveside Service at 1:00 p.m. Friday, December 16, at Terrace Lawn Memory Garden, Lac qui Parle County. Visitation is from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, December 15 in the Miller Funeral Home Chapel, 6210 Hwy. 65 NE, Fridley. Online condolences may be left at: www.millerfuneralfridley.com. Dawn was born to D. Ruth and Raymond Olson in Clarkfield on March 14, 1943. Dawn was a special person with musical and artistic talents who enjoyed the simple things that life had to offer.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Dawn is survived by daughter, Pamela DeMarais; sons: Thomas Madison and Michael Madison; grandchildren, Elizabeth and Joshua DeMarais.
Miller Funeral Home of Fridley is in charge of arrangements.

Eleanor M. Nyland
Eleanor M. Nyland, 81, of Alexandria, died on December 9, 2011 at Knute Nelson in Alexandria.
A funeral service was held on Tuesday, December 13, at Knute Nelson in Alexandria with Reverend Jim Oakland officiating. Music was provided by soloist, Andrea Olson and organist, Diane Alveshere. Interment was in Kinkead Cemetery in Alexandria. Casket bearers were Wes Bjurlin, Barry Ronning, Jeremy Holck, Ardelle Benson, Curtis Severeson, Wayne Holck.
Eleanor Mae Nyland was born on December 21, 1929 in Dawson to Anna and Robert Lideen. Her father passed away before Eleanor was born so she lived with her grandparents while her mom worked in a neighboring town, until the age of six when her mom, Anna remarried. One sister and two brothers were born to that marriage. Eleanor graduated from Wood Lake High School and was there until she was united in marriage to Olaf (Ole) Nyland on October 19, 1947 in Wood Lake.

Mary E. Jahn
Mary E. (Holm) Jahn, of Clarkfield, passed away on her 82nd birthday, December 11, 2011 at the Clarkfield Care Center.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Wednesday, December 14 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Montevideo, officiated by Father Jim Dvorak. Burial followed at St. Andrew Catholic Cemetery in Granite Falls.
Mary Elizabeth (Holm) Jahn was born on December 11, 1929 in Minneapolis to parents George and Eleanor (Joseph) Holm. She has one brother, George. She was baptized and confirmed in Minneapolis. Mary’s father passed away at a very early age and Mary and her mother and brother continued in live in Minneapolis where she attended school and graduated from the Minneapolis Public Schools. Following graduation she worked as a secretary for the Minneapolis Public School District until her marriage.

Erling S. Haaland
Erling S. Haaland, 90. of Clarkfield passed away on December 7, 2011.
Funeral services were held at Clarkfield Lutheran Church, Clarkfield at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 13, officiated by Pastor Bruce Nelson (former Pastor at Fron Luthern Church-Starbuck, and family friend), with visitation at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment was at the Clarkfield Cemetery.
Erling Stanley Haaland was born on November 6, 1921, the son of Elmer and Sarah (Lund) Haaland. He was baptized and confirmed at Clarkfield Lutheran Church, and graduated from Clarkfield Public High School. Erling then began farming with his father on the family farm.
On December 30, 1942 he was united in marriage to Dorothy Emily Hartfiel at Zion Lutheran Church in Tyro Township. This marriage was blessed with three children: Earl, Daniel and Julie. Erling and Dorothy resided and farmed near Clarkfield until 1979 when they moved to their lake home on Berens Point, Lake Minnewaska, in Starbuck.

Hildora Lecy
Hildora Lecy, 93, of Echo, passed away January 18, 2012, at Granite Falls Municipal Hospital in Granite Falls.
Services were held Monday, January 23 at Rock Valle Lutheran Church Sioux Agency Township, Echo, with burial in the church cemetery.
Hildora Jeannette Lecy was born on October 27, 1918 in Swedes Forest Township, Redwood County to Oscar and Amanda (Iverson) Sander. She was baptized at Rock Dell Ev. Lutheran Church and confirmed on June 25, 1933. She attended country school at District #5. She married Noral Lecy on December 18, 1943 in New Port News, VA where they lived for a few years while Noral served in the United States Army Air Corp, before moving back to Minnesota. They lived on a farm north of Echo where they farmed for many years. Hildora loved crocheting, quilting and gardening. She enjoyed spending many winters in Texas and summers at their lake home.

Trudy E. Wilson
Trudy E. Wilson , 84, passed away on Monday, January 16, 2012 at the Granite Falls Hospital. Her final days were spent surrounded by family and friends.
A memorial service was held on Friday, January 20 at Hazel Run Lutheran Church in Hazel Run, officiated by Pastor David Christensen, with burial at Hazel Run Lutheran Cemetery in Hazel Run.
Trudy Eunice Wilson was born November 24, 1927 to Johannes and Clara (Highum) Opdahl in Werner, North Dakota. She was baptized and confirmed at Vang Lutheran Church and attended school in Werner, North Dakota. Following the death of her father, Trudy, her mother and sister, Amy, moved to Granite Falls in 1944. She graduated from Granite Falls High School in 1947. Trudy resided and worked in Parkland, Washington for two years and then returned to Granite Falls.

Muriel Mae Wiegers
Muriel M. Wiegers, 81, passed away at Johnson Memorial Care Center on Wednesday, January 18, 2012.
Funeral services were held Saturday, January 21, at St. John’s Lutheran Church of Omro Twp. with Pastor Allen Lonnquist officiating. Organist, Karen Mamer accompanied the congregation in singing “Just As I Am” and “ What A Friend We Have In Jesus” and vocalist, Aaron Madson singing “Amazing Grace” and “Beautiful Savior.” Niece, nephews, great nieces and nephews: Jon, Mary, Mark, Tom, Taylor, Mya, Katie, Elizabeth, Anthony, Zachary and Bryce were casketbearers and interment was in the church cemetery.
Muriel Mae Wiegers, the daughter of Otto and Emma (Lother) Wiegers, was born on May 15, 1930, on the family farm in Omro Township, rural Boyd, the same home where her father was born. She was baptized by Rev. Henry Albrecht on June 8,1930, and confirmed by Rev. A.W. Fuerstenau at St. John’s Lutheran Church in December of 1943. Muriel graduated from the Clarkfield High School in 1948 and took Teachers Training in Canby. It was at that time that she taught in rural schools. She continued her education and received her degree from Mankato State. Muriel enjoyed her years of teaching in the elementary school at Sleepy Eye.

Judith Lewison

Judith Lewison, 91, of Pine Island, formerly of Granite Falls, passed away on Sunday, January 15, 2012, surrounded by family, at the Pine Haven Care Center, following a courageous battle with cancer.
Funeral services were held Thursday, January 19 at the Granite Falls Lutheran Church, with burial at the Granite Falls City Cemetery.
Judith Leone Alvira (Knutson) Lewison was born on March 21, 1920, in Granite Falls, the daughter of George and Sally (Ruse) Knutson. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and grew up in Granite Falls. She had eight brothers: Clair Allen, Clifford Llewellyn, Adrian, Virgil, Gale, George, David and Kent. On September 21, 1940, Judy was united in marriage to Howard A. Lewison and was a lifetime resident of Granite Falls.

Richard (Dick) Douglass

Richard (Dick) Douglass, 80, died Monday, Jan. 23, 2012, after a long battle with cancer. His wife, Ellen, was by his side when he died at the home of his oldest son, Patrick, in Northfield.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, January 26, at the Church of St. Dominic in Northfield with Fr. Dennis Dempsey officiating. Interment with military honors will be in Ft. Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis.
Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, January 25, at the Benson & Langehough Funeral Home in Northfield. Visitation will continue on Thursday at the church one hour prior to the service. Memorials are preferred to Northfield Hospice.

Shirley Enstad

Shirley Enstad, 70, of Montevideo, formerly of Granite Falls, died on Friday, January 20, 2012 at the Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo.
Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, January 25, 2012 at 2:00PM at the United Methodist Church in Montevideo with Rev. Gwen Bohlke officiating.
Interment was at Terrace Lawn Memory Gardens of rural Montevideo.
Shirley Jean (Anderson) Enstad was born on January 7, 1942 in Brooten to Raymond and Viola (Mickels) Anderson. As a child she moved with her family to Montevideo. On January 12, 1957 she was united in marriage to Allen Enstad in Sacred Heart. They made their home in Granite Falls where she worked as a nursing assistant at the Granite Falls Hospital. Her hobby was spending time with her family. She enjoyed being with her children and grandchildren.
