Bernice Ann Paulina Schubert
Bernice Ann Paulina Schubert of Cloquet died Sun., Feb. 23, 2003, in her home. She was 69.

She was born in Valley City, N.D. to Carl and Anna (Bergann) Sed. She had lived in Duluth and Munger, and moved to Cloquet in 1988. She married Harold W. Schubert in Saginaw in 1961.

Survivors include her daughter Joy Marie Peterson, sister Laura Sed of Brookston, and her close friends Tony and Marge Jurek and Vivian Davey, all of Cloquet, and her senior companion Janet Oachs of Esko.

A graveside service will be held in the spring at Solway Cemetery. Arrangements were made by Bell Brothers Funeral and Cremation Services.

Eva Anna Mareski
Jennie Thorson and Helen Forstrom both of Proctor are saddened by the loss of their sister, Eva Anna Mareski. Eva, who was born in Munger, died Tues., Feb. 18, 2003 in a Duluth hospital. She was 77.

She was born on Aug. 29, 1925 to August and Michelina Mareski.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers August Jr. and Joseph, and sister Mary Cheetham.

Eva is also survived by her brother Edward of Northlake, Ill., several nieces and nephews, and sister-in-law Lorraine Mareski of Hermantown.

Burial was at Calvary Cemetery.

Beverly J. LaPlante
Martin LaPlante and Gaylen 'Bud' Anderson of Proctor and Marvin Anderson of Pike Lake are mourning the death of their mother and sister, respectively. Beverly J. LaPlante of Duluth lost her battle with cancer Wed., Feb. 26, 2003, in her home. She was 71.

She was born in Duluth. Beverly graduated from Denfeld High School in 1950. She was a member of Hermantown Community Church. She worked for the food service at Merritt and Denfeld Schools for 16 years. She was a member of TOPS weight club and reached her goal in 2000 to become a KOPS.

She is also survived by her husband of 52 years Arthur LaPlante, four other sons, three daughters, four sisters, another brother, an uncle, 14 grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

Neryne L. Granholm
A private family service was held last week for Neryne L. Granholm of Saginaw. She died Wed., Mar. 5, 2003 in a Cloquet Hospital. She was 85.

She was born in 1917 in Saginaw to James and Penninah (Richards) Dalton.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Rudolph W. Granholm; and 12 brothers and sisters.

She is survived by daughters, Darla (LeRoy) Peterson, Judy (Henry) Prouty and Delores (Ellwyn) Janke, all of Saginaw; grandchildren, Karla (Mike) Hennen, Jeff (Beth) Prouty, Rudy (Shannon) Prouty, Dustin Janke, Troy (Lainie) Janke and Richard (Nikki) Marvel; 12 great-grandchildren, one expected great-grandchild, brother, John (Shirley) Dalton, brothers-in-law, Alex Granholm and John Armstrong and many nieces and nephews.

Entombment was at Sunrise Memorial Park.

Evelyn M. Youngberg
LoraLee Prouty of Saginaw is mourning the death of her mother, Evelyn M. Youngberg of Duluth. She died Mon., Mar. 10, 2003 in St. Ann's Residence. She was 91.

She was born in 1911 in Duluth to Nels and Julia Peterson. She was a telephone operator with Northwestern Bell for over 32 years until retiring in 1972. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church - Ruth's Circle, Telephone Pioneers, Swedish Institute, UCT and the Scandinavian American Fraternity.

She is survived by another daughter, Beverly (Dan) Kurosky of Duluth; grandchildren, Kevin (Cheryl) and Kyle Kurosky, Julee (Bob) McRae and Steven (Laura) Prouty; great-grandchildren, Seth, Sean, Stefan, Shayna, Caylee, Adam, Amber, Tara and Kathleen 'Kate'; brother-in-law Ed Baker and many nieces and nephews.

Arrangements were made by Bell Brothers Funeral and Cremation Services.

Lucille Norlen
Services will be held this afternoon for Lucille Norlen of Morris Thomas Rd., who taught in the Proctor School District for 14 years. She died Tues., Mar. 11, at the age of 90.

She was born in Virginia, Minn. She attended Virginia Junior College and Duluth State Teachers College. She was a member of Forbes United Methodist Church. Lucille was a charter member of the Lincoln Park Garden Club, and also enjoyed many years of volunteering at St. Luke's Hospital. She bowled many years with the Morning Glories Bowling League.

She is survived by daughters Marjie (Lee) Klint of Hermantown, Sandra (Dennis) Siiter of Sandy, Utah, grandchildren Linda (Doug) Klint-Johnson, Randy (Toni Tigue), Al (Nikki Dennis), all of Hermantown, Annette (Chris) Stavros of Sandy, Utah, two great-grandchildren, and her sister Marie Farrell (Harold) of Rockford, Ill.

A memorial service will be held today (Thur., Mar. 20), in Forbes United Methodist Church in Proctor, with Pastor Marilyn Evans officiating. The family invites you to join them after the service for refreshments and a time of fellowship in the church reception room. Memorials to Forbes Methodist Church would be preferred.

Norbert 'Norb' Michael LeBlanc, Sr.
Diane Thiry of Proctor is mourning the death of her father Norbert 'Norb' Michael LeBlanc, Sr. of Silver Bay. He died suddenly Sat., Mar. 15, 2003, in Lakeview Memorial Hospital in Two Harbors. He was 70.

Norb was born in Duluth. He grew up and went to Proctor schools. He married Elizabeth 'Betty' Fortier in 1951. Norb was a pipefitter at DM&IR Railroad for 10 years and moved to Silver Bay in 1962 where he worked for Reserve Mining Co. for 27 years. He also worked at the Silver Bay Lounge for 31 years, and was a member of the Moose.

He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Theresa LeBlanc, and brothers Raymond, Glen and Herbert.

He is also survived by his wife of 51 years Betty, children Susan (Gerald) McGovern of Biwabik, William 'Bill' (Linda) LeBlanc of Champlin, Minn., Norbert Jr. (Deanna) LeBlanc of Silver Bay, Kathleen 'Kathy' (Ken) Piatt of Brooklyn Park, Minn., ten grandchildren, three sisters and a brother.

Burial was at Silver Bay Cemetery.

Eva B. Johnson
Florence Scheer of Saginaw is mourning the death of her sister Eva B. Johnson of Duluth. She passed away Thurs., Mar. 13, 2003, in Lake Haven Manor. She was 91.

She was born in Duluth, and was a lifelong resident. She married Arthur Johnson in Duluth in 1929. Eva was an employee of ChunKing Corp. and R.J. Reynolds Foods for many years. She was a member of Elim Lutheran Church and a former member of West Duluth Women of the Moose.

She is also survived by two daughters, two daughters-in-law, ten grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Burial was at Oneota Cemetery. Arrangements were made by Bell Brothers Funeral and Cremation Services.

Donald L. Tverberg
Violet Riggio is mourning the loss of her brother, Donald L. Tverberg of Cohasset, Minn. He died Thurs., Mar. 13, 2003 in Grand Rapids. He was 67.

Don was born in Fosston, Minn., where he grew up and attended school. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He married Betty Erickson in 1957, and later married Sheryl Zimmel in 1968. Don worked for the V.P. Snell Construction Co. and then as a truck driver for Itasca Ready Mix for many years retiring in 1997. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Grand Rapids, Teamsters Local 346, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1720.

He is survived by his wife of 35 years Sheryl, two daughters, a stepdaughter, two sons, two other sisters, four brothers, 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, his first wife, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Burial was in the Wildwood Cemetery in Cohasset. Military Honors were accorded by area veterans.

Kurtis William Wayt
Kurtis William Wayt of Saginaw died Sun., Mar. 30, 2003 in his home. He was 10 years old.

He was born in Duluth on February 7, 1993. He attended Bay View Elementary School in Proctor, loved to ride horses at North Country R.I.D.E. in Esko, loved to swim, play and watch sports, especially basketball, and was an avid Barney fan. He was a wonderful boy who touched so many lives. Anyone who was lucky enough to meet him will never forget his smile. His family and friends were lucky to have him in their lives for ten years.

Kurtis is preceded in death by his grandfather Dennis J. Wayt, Sr., his aunt Debbie Mattson, and his great-grandmother Alice Zable.

He is survived by his mom and dad, Sheila R. Mattson and Dennis J. Wayt, Jr. of Saginaw, sister Lindsy at home and Ashley of Jacksonville, Fla., paternal grandmother Sandra Wayt of Saginaw and maternal grandparents Byron and Sandy Mattson of Proctor, aunts and uncles Robert and Leann Shevchuk of Hermantown, Lori and David Ellingson of Big Lake, Minn., Greg and Debbie Knutson of Benson, Minn., Cindy and Ed Malie of Brainerd, Minn., Teresa and Mark Bennett of Proctor, and Mike Sicilian of Duluth, and 15 cousins.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. tonight (Thurs.) and from noon until the 1 p.m. service Friday in Bell Brothers Chapel, 601 N. 56th Ave. W.

Arrangements were made by Bell Brothers Funeral and Cremation Services.

Lee F. Benoit
Duane Benoit of Proctor is mourning the death of his brother Lee F. Benoit of Virginia. He died Mon., Mar. 24, 2003 at Virginia Regional Medical Center. He was 69.

Lee was born in Duluth Dec. 27, 1933.

He was preceded in death by his first wife Zola (Rydberg) and his parents.

He is also survived by his wife Myrna, children Georgia (Rich) Harter of Menomonee Falls, Wis., Steven (Tammy) Benoit of Duluth, Lisa (Mark) Plachta of Duluth, Tina Benoit and Jack Gillespie of Brooklyn Park, Minn., and, stepdaughter Theresa (Dan) Lovdahl of Superior, 11 grandchildren, one other brother, and two sisters.
