Leonard Kallhoff

Funeral Services for Leonard Kallhoff, 85, of Graceville were held Friday, July 6, 2007, at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Graceville.

Burial took place in the St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery in Dumont. Military Graveside Rites were performed by the Jesse Poole American Legion Post #297 of Graceville,.

Leonard Wilfred Kallhoff was born on Feb. 9, 1922, in Clearwater, NE, to parents, William and Anna (Venteicher) Kallhoff. As a young boy, he attended country school near Clearwater and Elgin, NE. Leonard served in the United States Army during WWII from October 1942 until his honorable discharge in June 1945. Leonard received the Bronze Star medal, Good Conduct medal. Victory medal and the Purple Heart. After recovering from his war injury, Leonard returned home to Elgin and began farming. He later moved to a farm west of Madison.

While farming near Madison, Leonard met a young gal by the name of Patricia Theusch. On Oct. 15, 1955 Leonard and Patricia were married at St. Michael's in Madison. The couple made their home on a farm near Madison where they were blessed with three boys, Bruce, Kevin, and Randy. In the fall of 1958, the couple moved to a farm north of Graceville, where they welcomed home two daughters, Nancy and Sara. Together Leonard and Patricia raised their family and worked on the farm until their retirement in August of 1989.

Leonard and Pat then moved to a lake home in Alexandria, where Leonard had continued to reside after Patricia's passing in 2001. The lake home provided Leonard many fond memories spent with family and friends. In his young years, Leonard enjoyed fishing and snowmobiling as well as square dancing and bowling. Working with wood was a passion of Leonard's and he cherished quiet time spent working in his shop. He will be truly missed by those that loved him and called him friend.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, American Legion Post #297, and a member of the Forada Lions Club.

Leonard passed away Sunday, July 1, 2007, at the Douglas County Hospital in Alexandria at the age of 85.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Anna; wife, Patricia; son, Kevin; an infant daughter, Theresa; a sister, Irene; and an infant brother Gerald.

Left to cherish his memory are his children, Bruce (Kim) Kallhoff, Randy (Monica) Kallhoff; Nancy (Michael) Cox, and Sara (Todd) Wood; five grandchildren, Samantha Kallhoff, Jacqueline Cox, Jonathan Cox, Daniel Cox, and Megan Wood; two brothers, Alvin (Arlene) Kallhoff and Floyd (Phyllis) Kallhoff; two sisters, Delores (Dale) Hill and Evelyn (Wilfred) Arehart; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

The Larson Funeral Home of Graceville was in charge of the arrangements.

John Mattison

John Mattison, 61, died May 5th at the Ortonville Hospital. A memorial service was held Saturday, May 10th at Tabor United Methodist Church in Big Stone City.

Rev. Beth Conrad officiated. Music was provided by Pat Kunz, organist and Tim Mundwiler, vocalist. “Bootz”, John’s dog, was the honorary bearer. The readers were Albert Mattison and Shelby Flegel.

John Alan Mattison was born March 9, 1947, in Hibbing. He was the son of Albert John and Elsie (Sarkki) Mattison. He attended school in Hibbing.

John worked as a machinist and toolmaker for most of his career. He most recently was owner and manager of the Big Stone Motel, before retiring.

John was united in marriage on May 25, 2002, with Rebecca M. Mattison at Henriette. John was an avid motorist, enjoying vehicles and motorcycles of all kinds. He was a member of the Big Stone Cruisers Car Club and always had fun buying and selling vehicles. His greatest joy was spending time with his family and friends.

John Mattison is survived by his wife, Rebecca of Big Stone City, SD; three children: Ricke and wife Ruth Mattison of Mora; Sara and husband Kurt Flegel of Benson and Michael and wife Jessica Mattison of New Richland; three step-sons: Troy and wife Joline Wimmer of Ortonville; Travis and wife Jessica Lewellin of Grasston; Lee Anderson of Pine City; one brother, Michael and wife LuAnn Mattison of Webster, WI; 21 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Elsie and his second wife, Janice (Kookie) Mattison.

Mundwiler Funeral Home of Milbank was in charge of the arrangements for John Mattison.

Luella “Red” Hoxtell

Funeral services for Luella “Red” Hoxtell of Ortonville, were held Thursday, May 8, 2008 at First English Lutheran Church in Ortonville.

Reverend Marlene Elmstrom officiated.

Burial was at Mound Cemetery in Ortonville.

Luella Dorothy Eystad, daughter of William and Otha (Perry) Eystad, was born Sept. 9, 1923 at home in rural Alberta.

Red passed away at home, on May 2, 2008. She will be missed dearly by her family and those who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her children, Jerry of Phoenix, AZ, Jim (Jill) of Big Stone City, Kathi (Russ) Thymian of Ortonville; five grandchildren, Heather (Chad) Schellberg, Amy (Ty) Hoppe, Jesse (Wendy) Thymian, Adam (and special friend, Tesla) Thymian, Darin Sigler; four great-grandchildren, Courtney and Caitlynn Schellberg, Hailey Hoppe, Joslynne Sigler; one brother, Merle (Dory) Eystad of Mesa, AZ; sister, Irene Longworth of Ortonville; as well as cousins, nieces and nephews.

Red was preceded in death by her husband, Dan; parents; sisters, Jeanette and Louise; brother, Dwayne “Beaner”.

Frances Rakow

Funeral services were held Saturday, May 10, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church of Bellingham, for Frances Rakow.

Pastor Thaine Kister officiated at this service. Congregational songs were sung, with Sue Ohm at the organ. Active pallbearers included; Jeff Sorenson, Pat Sorenson, Steven Wellnitz, Kevin Holman, Dennis Holman and Kenneth Swenson. Concluding services were held at Bellingham City Cemetery.

Frances Ann Holman was born on March 12, 1926 in Odessa, to parents Mark and Amanda [Steen] Holman.

Death came to Frances, May 7, 2008, at Northridge Nursing Home in Ortonville. She had reached the age of 82 years, one month and 25 days.

Fran is survived by two sons; Craig Rakow of Bellingham, and Tracy [Suzy] Rakow of Whiteland, Ind., six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, two brothers; Amer Holman of Appleton, and Harold Holman of Zumbrota, also a sister, Gloria Sorenson of Louisburg.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mark and Amanda, husband Lawrence, son Bryan Rakow, two brothers, Bud and Dale Holman, and two sisters, Evelyn Swanson and Carol Swenson.

Shirley Lorraine Goodhart

Shirley Lorraine Goodhart, 68, of Ortonville, passed away April 26, 2008, Ortonville. Services for Shirley Goodhart were held Thursday, May 1, 2008 at First English Lutheran Church in Ortonville. Reverend Marlene Elmstrom officiated.

Burial was at Mound Cemetery in Ortonville.

Shirley Lorraine Anderson was born in Madison, on April 5, 1940, to Hjealmer and Emma (Monson) Anderson.

She is survived by her two sons, Scott (Becky) Goodhart of Detroit Lakes, and Todd (Karen) Goodhart of Milbank, SD; one sister, Clarice Schnaser of Ortonville; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Rosella (Roger) DeCamp of Chokio; two granddaughters, Katrina and Beth Goodhart; as well as many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jim; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Lillian (William) Goodhart; sister and brother-in-law, Evelyn (Ken) Kotwitz; brother-in-laws, Merlyn “Mert” Schnaser, and Luverne Goodhart.

Justine “Tina” Anderson_Funeral services for Justine “Tina” Anderson, 92, of Ortonville, were held Monday, June 9, 2008 at 2:00 pm at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Nassau.

Reverend Brad Larson officiated.

Burial was at St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery in Nassau.

Pallbearers were Cory Wildung, Luke Henrich, Mike Henrich, Tanner Radermacher, Travis Radermacher, and Taylor Radermacher. Honorary Pallbearers were Larry Wildung, Scott Anderson, LeRoy Anderson, Bob Anderson, Bud Radermacher and Matt Henrich.

Justine Elizabeth Weber was born on March 29, 1916 to parents John and Barbara Weber in Lakeshore Township, Lac qui Parle County. Justine is survived by daughter Virginia (Harvey) Wildung of Ortonville; daughter-in-law, Sharyn Anderson of Willmar; sister-in-laws, Ardella Runchey of Marshall, Florence Weber of Dawson, Dorothy Weber of Madison, Marion Weber of Ortonville, Luella Anderson of Madison, Arlene Anderson of Madison; eight grandchildren, LuAnn (Bud) Radermacher, Julie (Matt) Henrich, Larry (Diane) Wildung, Penny (Tim) Brandon, Robert (Linda) Anderson, LeRoy (Melissa) Anderson, Scott (Rhonda) Anderson, Loretta (Lowell) Wricks; 27 great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Orne; son, Russell; 4 grandbabies; eight brothers, Johnny, Elden, Elmer, Joe, Clarence, Frank, Tony, and Harold; four sisters, Mayme Buchman, Leona Anderson, Agnes Chester, Alvina Tobias.
