Lawrence J. Doucette

Lawrence J. Doucette, age 92, a resident of Little Falls, MN, died March 24, 1997 at St. Otto’s Care Center in Little Falls.

Funeral services were held March 26, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Belle Prairie, MN with the Rev. Harold Kost officiating. Interment was in the parish cemetery.

Lawrence J. Doucette was born on June 3, 1904 to Louis and Mary “Bellefeuille” Doucette. Lawrence was united in marriage to Elizabeth Borash on June 5, 1928 in Sobieski, MN. The couple farmed in Crow Wing County before settling on the Doucette family farm in Belle Prairie.

Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth of Little Falls; sons, Leonard and wife Clara of Little Falls, Louis and wife Agnes of Cushing, MN, and Marvin and wife Audrey of Freedhem, MN, daughter, Lorraine Carlson and husband Leonard of Hudson, WI and Fountain Hills, AZ; 24 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren and many cousins and friends. Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents.

Pallbearers were Robert Doucette, Gordon Doucette, Hugh Carlson, Mark Doucette, Russell Doucette, and David Brutscher.

Mary Ann Dumbeck

Mary Ann Dumbeck, age 91, a resident of Brainerd, MN died March 29, 1997, at St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Brainerd.

Funeral services were held March 31 at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church with Father Cornelius Kelleher officiating. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery.

Mrs. Dumbeck was born on November 4, 1905, in Morrison County, MN, to Martin and Mary (Raeder) Fleischhacker. She was a lifetime resident of the Brainerd area.

Survivors include: two sons, Nick Dumbeck of Brainerd and Frank Dumbeck of Brainerd; three daughters, Marie Tougas of Brainerd, Kathy Wetzel of Brainerd and Arline Jarnot of Brainerd; 21 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph; seven brothers and one infant daughter.

Harry Holland

Harry Holland, age 86, of Motley, MN, died March 27, 1997 at St. Gabriel’s Hospital in Little Falls, MN.

Funeral services were held March 31 at the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Staples, MN, with Rev. Larry Hager officiating. Burial was in the American Township Cemetery in Warroad, MN.

Harry was born on January 1, 1911 at Park River, ND, son of the late Samuel and Annetta (Arneson) Holland. He played violin for dances. He was united in marriage to Melinda Otto on November 14, 1934 at Roseau, MN.

Survivors include his wife, Melinda; five daughters; Dorothy (Paul) Johnson of Golden Valley, MN, Virginia (Dr. Clark) Rundell of Windham, ME, Harriet Martini of Pine City, MN, Marj (Don) Samborski of Blaine, MN, Loreen (Jim) McEachern of Monticello, MN; 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, 10 brothers and sisters.

Albert Leo Scepurek

Albert Leo Scepurek, age 83, a resident of Anchorage, AK; and formerly of the Little Falls, MN, and Morrison County area, died March 26, 1997 in Bethany, Harrison County, MI. A Mass of Christian Burial was held March 31 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Little Falls with the Rev. Kenneth Riedeman officiating. Burial was April 1 at the Itasca Cemetery in Grand Rapids, MN.

Albert Leo Scepurek was born April 11, 1913 in Swan River Township, Morrison County, MN, to the late Jacob and Mary “Schlichting” Scepurek. He grew up in the Randall, MN, area and attended country school, later attending the School of Agriculture at the University of Minnesota were he was involved in animal husbandry of the Holstein cow. He was united in marriage on November 26, 1940 in Randall to Rose C. Denzel. Rose died October 8, 1994.

Survivors include his son, Henry Scepurek and wife Sandy of Wasilla, AK; foster son, Michael Newton of Soldatna, AK; brothers, John Scepurek of Randall; brother, Linus O.F.M. Scepurek of St. Paul, MN, Raymond Scepurek of Randall, Alphonse Scepurek of Chicago, IL; sisters, Mary Meyer of Pierz, Theresa Beig of Cherokee Village, AR; and Pauline Schmidt of Little Falls and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Rose, and a brother, Michael Scepurek.

Casketbearers were Mark Reich, Sebastian Scepurek, Gabriel Scepurek, Steven Meyer, Vincent Meyer, and Edwin Scepurek.

Clifford F. Block

Clifford F. Block, age 68, a resident of Pierz, MN, formerly of Lastrup, MN, died March 30, 1997 at St. Mary’s Villa in Pierz.

Funeral services were held April 2 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Lastrup, with Father Roger Theonnes officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery. Clifford was born August 3, 1928 in Granite Township to Bernard and Adelheid (Schommer) Block. He grew up on the family farm near Lastrup. Clifford was united in marriage to Elizabeth Bleichner on June 1, 1965 at St. Rita’s Church in Hillman, MN.

Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth of Pierz; sons, Clifford Jr. of Pierz, Bernard (Ben) and wife Laurie of Hillman, Michael and wife Hollie of Swanville, MN; daughters, Kristi Schmidtbauer and husband Paul of Pierz, Lynn Woitalla and husband Greg of Harding, MN; brothers, Ted and wife Marie of Hillman, Clarence and wife Vange of Lastrup, Chester and wife Kathy of Warba; sisters, Janet Meyer and husband Ervin of Brainerd, MN, Delores Block of Minneapolis, MN, Addie Stenzel and husband Bob of Minnetonka, MN, Judy Noskoviak and husband Jerry of Elk Mound, WI, and Grace Block of Seattle, WA; grandchildren, Maverick Kimmons, Nicole, Erin and Andrew Schmidtbauer, Courtney and Brittney Block, Mikayla, Jennifer and Adam Block. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Bernard, Jr.

Honorary casketbearers were Luvern Schomer, Marvin Hayes, Harold Welle, Virgil Rosekrans, Leroy Gulden, and Del Howard. Casketbearers were David Meyer, Ricky Gulden, Roger Block, Wayne Meyer, Doug Block and Steve Block.

Richard “Dick” E. Jones

Richard “Dick” E. Jones, age 72, a resident of Little Falls, MN, formerly of St. Paul, MN, died April 2, 1997, at St. Otto’s Care Center in Little Falls.

Funeral services were held April 5 at First United Methodist Church in Little Falls with Rev. John Longley officiating. Interment was in the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery at Camp Ripley, MN. Richard was born on January 31, 1925, in Moorhead, MN, to the late Joseph and Myrtle “Smith” Jones. He was united in marriage in 1962 to Violet “Vi” Hansen in St. Paul.

Survivors include his wife, Vi of Little Falls; children, Sharon Jones of Little Falls, Gail Cole and husband Kenneth of Montrose, MN, and Richard Jones of Becker, MN; sister, Norma Rossbach and husband Wallace of Detroit Lakes, MN, and grandchildren Dustin Cole and Shenandoah Cole. Dick was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.

Pallbearers were Robert Jacobson, John Samuelson, Jack Carlson, Cal Bengtson, Clayton Wells and Todd Halls.

Genevieve Broschofsky

Genevieve Broschofsky, age 84, a resident of Ah-Gwah-Ching Nursing Home in Walker, MN, died April 6, 1997 at the nursing home.

Funeral services were held April 9 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Buckman, MN with Father Ron Dockendorf officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery.

Genevieve was born November 11, 1912 in Buckman, to the late John and Elizabeth (Mueller) Broschofsky. She was a long time resident of Walker.

Survivors include a brother, Edwin; along with many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Peter and John; a sister, Loretta Theis. Casketbearers were Conrad Broschofsky, Eugene Broschofsky, Herb Broshofsky, Larry Theis, Alphonse Theis and Kenny Broshofsky.

Leone M. Cruser

Leone M. Cruser, age 84, a resident of the Lutheran Senior Citizen’s Home, Little Falls, MN, formerly of Sauk Rapids, MN died April 8, 1997 at the nursing home.

Funeral services were held at the Sacred Heart Church in Sauk Rapids with Rev. Eugene Doyle officiating. Burial was in Benton County Cemetery, Sauk Rapids.

Leone was born May 12, 1912 in Mayhew Lake, MN, to Christian and Annie (Hess) Maurer. She married Ben Cruser on May 12, 1934 in St. Anthony’s Church, St. Cloud.

She is mother and mother-in-law to, Arlene Lawrence of Baton Rouge, LA, and LeAnn and Richard Farrier of Little Falls. She is also survived by her brothers, and sister, Alfred Maurer of Sauk Rapids, Gerald Maurer of St. Cloud, Jean Medeck of Rice, MN and five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Casketbearers were Michael Hammond, Kim and Kevin Kroll, Dan Medeck, Ivan Cruser and Roxanne Bartkowitz.

F. J. ‘Mac’ McGowan

F. J. ‘Mac’ McGowan, age 88, a resident of Little Falls, MN, died April 1, 1997 near his winter home in Mercedes, TX. Funeral services were April 8 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Little Falls, MN with Father Nick Landsberger officiating. Burial was beside his beloved wife in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Mac was born July 8, 1908 in Scranton, IA to Rodger and Ellen (Connelly) McGowan. He was united in marriage with Eva Bennett. Since arriving in Little Falls, in 1940, Mac was totally involved in the community. In 1948, with the help of his wife, he started McGowan Welding Supply. By the time of his retirement in 1975, it was the largest independent welding supply and gases distributor in central Minnesota. Central McGowan, Inc. as it became known in 1963, served the needs of farmers, blacksmiths, fabricators, manufacturers, equipment rebuilders, hospital, dental offices, schools and private individuals in more than 57 Minnesota counties.

Survivors include three daughters, Mary Witucki of New Brighton, MN, Peg Smith of Little Falls and Nancy McGowan of Denver, Co; one son, Tom and wife Jill of Seattle, WA; 14 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; four sisters, Clare Gilbert of Dinuba, CA; Eileen Johnson of Indianola, IA, Ellen Kluzak of Lady Lake, FL and Alberta Goyne of Bonham, TX.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 50 years; Eva in 1985; a grandson, David Smith; two sons-in-law, Jack Smith and Gene Witucki; and three sisters.

Casketbearers were Eugene M and Stephen Witucki, John, Michael, Richard, and Thomas Smith, Ryan and Shawn McGowan.
