Harold Bennet Aldridge
Tim Aldridge of Proctor is mourning the death of his father Harold Bennet Aldridge of Duluth. He died Thurs., Apr. 10, 2003, in a Duluth hospital. He was 80.

Harold was born in Chambersburg, Pa. He was a WW II Navy veteran serving on a destroyer as a torpedo mate. He was a very talented electromechanical engineer working at Woolen Mills where he organized the labor union, and the Arrowhead, Bridgeman-Russell and Franklin Creameries where he retired. While in retirement, Harold worked as the building maintenance engineer for Faith Haven Apartments, as well as providing technical support to several area businesses. He married Janet Willeck in Duluth in 1986. He was a member of the Lutheran Church of The Holy Trinity, VFW Post 137, Teamsters Union, a life member of the Moose Lodge, and enjoyed hobby farming.

Harold is also survived by his wife Janet, daughters Patricia (Richard) Newton of Wrenshall, Nancy (Steven) Shannon of Esko and Juli Willeck of Seattle, Wash., sons Barry (Alana) Aldridge of Ironton, Minn., Matthew (Celeste) Aldridge of Cloquet, Jim Willeck and Jeff (Jennifer) Willeck, both of Eden Prairie, his mother, a daughter-in-law, 15 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Inurnment was at Oneota Cemetery, accorded by the Duluth Combined Honor Guard. Arrangements were made by Bell Brothers Funeral and Cremation Services.

JoAnn P. Stangland
Joyce McDonald of Proctor is mourning the death of her mother JoAnn P. Stangland. The longtime Duluth resident died Sat., Apr. 12, 2003, in her home. She was 64.

JoAnn was born in Chicago, Ill., and had been a resident of the Duluth and Superior area for most of her lifetime. She had been employed as a home health care aide.

She is also survived by two sons, two other daughters, a brother and a sister, and three grandchildren.

Interment was in Oneota Cemetery.

James Robert Ripley, Sr.
James Robert Ripley, Sr., age 48, of Oak St., Proctor, died peacefully on Mon., April 14, 2003 at St. Mary's Medical Center Hospice Unit after a brief illness.

He was born on December 2, 1954 in Paonia, Colorado to Robert Collin and Margaret Marie (Long) Ripley and had been a Duluth area resident since 1968.

Jim had worked as a welder for Sheet Metal Local 10. He recently become a member of the Catholic Church. He enjoyed playing pool, classic cars, and spending time at the lake.

He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents, his sisters Dawn Marie, and R. Colleen Ripley McGirl.

Survivors include his son Jim (Taunya) Ripley, Jr. of Duluth, his mother Margaret Ripley of Duluth, his father Robert of CA., his brothers Douglas (Emma) of Carlsbad, NM., and Jerry (Linda Mae) Hodges of TX., his sister Marie (Denny Jannetta) Corey of Duluth, his grandsons Christian and Paul, aunts, an uncle, many nieces and nephews, his special friends Jill and Mike Busam of Duluth, and his dog "Babies".

Memorials should be directed to Jim's family c/o Jim Ripley, Jr., 1201 101st Ave. W., Duluth, MN. 55808.

Visitation will be Fri. from 5-7 p.m. at Bell Brothers Chapel and continue Saturday from 9 a.m. until the 10 a.m. service at St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church. Burial will be in Oneota Cemetery.

Arrangements by Bell Brothers Funeral and Cremation Services.

Shane D. Anderson
Shane D. Anderson of Wausau, Wis., formerly of Duluth, died Wed., Apr. 9, 2003, in Wausau Hospital as a result of an automobile accident. He was 22.

Shane was born January 29, 1981. He attended Caribou Lake Elementary in Twig, and Proctor Jr. High School.

He is survived by his father Doug Anderson of Fredenberg, Minn., mother Lisa Patterson (fiancé Ted Ruth) of Scofield, Wis., sister Marisa Anderson, brother Steven Anderson of Fredenberg, grandparents Byron and Marge Anderson of Duluth and Mary Goodell of Superior, many aunts and uncles, and girlfriend Sara.

Kathleen Louise Bienusa Pietz
Ada Pietz of Proctor is mourning the death of her mother Kathleen Louise Bienusa Pietz. She died Mon., Apr. 21, 2003, in Staples, Minn. She was 41.

Kathy was born April 19, 1962 in Anoka, Minn. to Roger and Sharon (Wing) Bienusa. She graduated from Staples High School in 1980, and from Wadena Vo-Tech in Cosmetology in 1982. She was employed at the Powder Puff Salon in Staples and the Hair Hut of Motley. She worked for a number of years as a waitress. She married August H. Pietz of Motley, Minn. in 1987. In 1989, she was employed by Burlington Northern Railroad as a switchman/ brakeman. She was promoted to conductor in 1991. She moved to Duluth in 1994, and went for promotion as a Locomotive Engineer in 1995. She was a member of the Union, the UTU, Local 1175. Kathy ended her railroad career in 1998 and went to work for the Duluth Regional Care Center helping the physically and mentally challenged adults.

She moved to Proctor in 2000 and became involved with the Proctor Winter Carnival as a volunteer. She was a member of Women of the Moose Proctor Chapter 1302. In 2001, she started go-cart racing and won first place in her very first race for the Keyboard Lounge.

Kathy loved life and always lived it to the fullest and treasured each new experience. She had many friends from Staples, Motley, Duluth, and Proctor who were very special to her'Geraldine Mertens, Sharon Goff, Steve and Mary Jo Reetz, Gail Breckenridge, Michelle Lenk, Steve Shake, Ernie Converse, Bonnie Line, Barb Hasselberg, Barb Bagley, Dennis Trana, Helen Pierson, Alan Guthrie, Krissy Bijold, Steve and Paula Hess, Katie Starkey, Neil Davis and the BPM's, Roger Raymond, Mike Scinocca, Jerry Hughes, Chopper Nick, C.J. Nick, Tom Schaffer, Wanda Larson, Deb Weir Hester, Mike Weir, Joe and Sandi Bodell, John and Lila Haugland, Nancy Nick and family, Pat Trudean, Frank Hickman, Rick Strom, Janice LeSarge, Kelly Michelizzi, Betty Joe and Jim Nichols.

Kathy was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents Charles and Bertha Wing of Duluth, and her paternal grandparents George and Iris Bienusa of Staples.

She is also survived by her son Matthew Pietz of Staples, her parents, six sisters and five brothers, 12 nephews, five nieces, two great nephews, and many aunts and uncles.

Visitation at Brenny Funeral Home, 4th St. NE, Staples, Thurs. 5-8 p.m. with rosary at 7 and prayer service at 7:15 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Sacred Heart Church in Staples Fri., Apr. 25 at 10:30 a.m.

Edwin Merlin Haggy
Services were held Tuesday for Edwin Merlin Haggy. He died as the result of an automobile accident Wed., Apr. 16, 2003. He was 28.

He was born in Duluth in 1974 to Edwin H. Haggy and Deborah J. Hansen. He was a Proctor High School graduate. He had just received his contractor's license and was going to start building houses on his own in May. He worked for Phil Poppenberg Construction.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Edwin and Olive Haggy and his maternal grandmother Jennie L. Baublitz.

He is survived by his father Edwin (Sandy) Haggy, and his mother Deb Hansen, both of Proctor, brothers Tom (Tara) Haggy of Proctor and Joel (Lisa) Greer of Ariz., sisters Melissa Ulshafer of Proctor and Danal Moe of Duluth, maternal grandfather Merlin H. Baublitz of Proctor, many aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and his faithful dog, Scooby.

Arrangements by Bell Brothers Funeral and Cremation Services.

Troy E. Lind
Mike Lind of Saginaw is saddened by the death of his brother, Troy E. Lind. He died on his birthday, Tues., Apr. 15, at the age of 41.

He was born in Oakland, Calif. He was a member of the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa. He also worked at Black Bear Casino in the security department for four years.

Troy was preceded in death by his parents.

He is also survived by his wife Teri, brothers Kevin (Linda) and Keith (Cindy) both of Cloquet, Boochie of Carlton and Kim (Faye) of Indiana, sister Loretta (Scott) Erickson of Cloquet; daughters Tiffany of Duluth, Kaylee, Keshia and Mika all of Cloquet and Clarissa of Saginaw; sons Travis and Cody Hacken-smith of Minneapolis and Jagger Lind of Cloquet, his father and mother-in-law, Dennis and Roberta Olson of Cloquet, sisters-in-law Krista Olson and Stephanie (Gary) Gatewood all of Cloquet and many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and friends. He will be sadly missed by special friend 'Chewy.'

Interment services were at New Holy Family Cemetery.

Kory John Meyer
Kelly Alseth of Proctor is saddened by the death of her brother, Kory John Meyer. The Duluth resident died Wed., Apr. 16, 2003. He was 36.

He was born in 1966 and graduated from Denfeld High School in 1984. He was a member of Elim Lutheran Church and was active in its youth activities. He was a former member of the Duluth Boy's Chorus and the Duluth Superior Square Dance Association.

Kory survived for 9 1/2 years following a tragic accident that left him a quadriplegic. He went on to graduate as a computer aided design technician from Minneapolis Community College where he was on the dean's list and was class president. Following graduation, he worked as a CAD technician at MNDOT in Minneapolis. He became a skilled driver, qualified for his license and was able to transport himself through the congestion of the Twin Cities freeways to and from work.

He married Heather Beetcher on July 13,2002.

He is also survived by his wife Heather, his parents, Clarice (Jean) LeRoy and Ron (Barb) Meyer, three other sisters Kristin, Emily and Amy, all of Duluth, a brother, Kirk (Mary) of Knob Noster, Missouri, his maternal grandmother, Dorothy M. Johnson of Twig, his step-grandparents Gilbert and Ollie Johnson of Duluth, a nephew, a niece, many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Burial at Oneota Cemetery.

Hazel B. Carlson
Hazel B. Carlson, who was active in Grand Lake Township as its town clerk, in cub scouts, and the Township Fire Department 'Sirens' auxiliary and PTA president, died Sun., Apr. 20, 2003. She was 85.

Hazel was born in Virginia, and lived most of her life in Duluth. During WW II, Hazel lived in Chicago and was supervisor in a factory making aviation instruments for the war effort. She moved to the area in 1948. Hazel and her husband Bill also managed the Miller Hill Manor in Duluth before retiring to Phoenix in 1976. Hazel lived in St. Paul the last nine years.

She was preceded in death by her husband William J. in 1992.

Hazel is survived by a son William J., Jr. of St. Paul, one sister, a sister-in-law, and many nieces and nephews.

Denny H. Thompson, Jr.
Services were held earlier this week for Denny H. Thompson, Jr. He died Sat., Apr. 26, 2003, in his home. He was 39.

Denny was born in Duluth and had been a lifelong resident. He was employed as an auto mechanic with Miller Hill Jeep Eagle in Duluth. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and being with his two dogs Rascal and Berrick.

Denny is survived by his parents Dennis, Sr. of Saginaw and Mary (John) Sundquist of Hovland, his wife Robyn, son Dennis, III (Carley O'Dell) and daughter Chelsey Marie, all of Duluth, sisters Debbie (Brian Ronding) Thompson of Hermantown, Cheryl Thompson of St. Paul, Jennifer Thompson of Saginaw, brother Henry Thompson of Saginaw, grandmother Helen Thompson and in-laws Doug and Linda Freeman, all of Duluth, three nieces, and four nephews.
