Marguerite T. Watson

Marguerite T. Watson, died April 17, 1997, at the Sunrise Manor in Tyler, MN at the age of 87 years.

Memorial services were April 25 at Grace Episcopal Church in Royalton, MN. Burial was in the Riverside Cemetery at Royalton.

Marguerite was born July 13, 1909 in Chokio, MN to William and Theresa (Mader) Powers. She was a graduate of St. Catherine’s School of Nursing. Marguerite married Dr. Sidney Watson and the couple practiced medicine in the Royalton and Little Falls area for many years. She has been a resident of Sunrise Manor Nursing Home in Tyler, MN since December of 1990.

Survivors include one sister, Genevieve Lindquist of Wheaton, MN and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Theresa Powers; her brother, Robert Powers, her sister Cornelia Howard, and her husband Dr. Sidney Watson.

Jeffrey C. Rogers

Jeffrey C. Rogers, age 29, a resident of Holdingford, MN, died April 17, 1997, in New Ulm, MN, from injuries received in a truck accident.

Funeral services were held April 21 at St. Edward’s Catholic Church in Elmdale with the Rev. Todd Schneider officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery.

Jeffrey was born July 13, 1967, in Anoka, MN, to Charles and Janice (Beck) Rogers. He married Leonice Bartkowicz August 26, 1996, at St. Edward’s Catholic Church in Elmdale. He was a member of NRA. He drove truck for Peterson Trucking in Swanville for nine years and for the past five months, he drove truck for Mielke Oil Company in Swanville.

Survivors include his wife of Holdingford; stepdaughter, Stephanie Allen; and, son, Shawn; his parents, Charles and Janice Rogers of Little Falls; and a grandmother, Anna Rogers of Anoka. He was preceded in death by a brother, Jim.

Pallbearers were Paul Lapos, Luke Throner, Allen Hedin, Bob Van Kamp, Butch Gerads and Rodney Bartkowicz.

Lena May Sundberg

Lena May Sundberg, age 83, a resident of Spring Park, MN, formerly of Little Falls, MN, died April 17, 1997, at Ridgeview Medical Center in Waconia, MN. Funeral services were held at Bethel Lutheran Church in Little Falls with Rev. Kent Garlinghouse officiating. Burial was in the Darling Cemetery.

Lena M. Sundberg was born July 28, 1913, in Darling Township, Morrison County, MN, to the late Walter and Bertha (Bigalke) Shaffer. Lena grew up and attended school in Darling Township. She was united in marriage to Carl E. Sundberg on June 24, 1933, in Little Falls. The couple farmed in Darling Township until moving to Little Falls in 1950. Lena resided at Pine Grove Manor in Little Falls from 1972 until becoming a resident of the Presbyterian Homes in Spring Park in 1993.

Survivors include her daughters, Hildur Perkins and husband Ted of Excelsior, MN and Arlene Shirley of Fargo, ND; brothers, John Shaffer of Hibbing, MN and Clarence Shaffer of Belgrade, MT; grandchildren, Steve Miller, Janelle Mellick, Jeff Mowan and Julie Kersten; and, 11 great-grandchildren. Lena was preceded in death by her husband, Carl E. Sundberg in 1972, parents, a sister and two brothers.

Honorary pallbearers were Jeff Bigalke and the Little Falls VFW Auxiliary. Pallbearers were Dick Thelander, Ted Perkins, Steve Miller, Jeff Mowan, Robert Miller and Gil Gustafson.

Audrey Ann Maier

Audrey Ann Maier, age 57, a resident of Andover, MN, died April 19, 1997, at her home, following a lengthy battle with cancer.

Funeral services were April 22 at St. Timothy’s Catholic Church in Blaine, MN, with Rev. Pat Griffin officiating. Burial was in the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery.

She was born in Bowlus, MN on August 12, 1939, to Otto H. and Valeria E. (Namyst) Mrosla. She married David Maier and did clerical work for the U.S.D.A.

She is survived by her husband, David; daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Fred Bengtson of St. Cloud, MN; son, John Maier of St. Louis Park, MN; mother, Valeria Mrosla; brothers and sisters, Tom (Marlene) Mrosla, Ed (Kim) Mrosla, Rosie (Larry) Brower, Jane (George) Suska, Paul (Sheri) Mrosla, all of Royalton, MN, Doris (Roger) Tomala of Pierz, MN, Mike (Mary) Mrosla) of St. Anthony, MN; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Otto Mrosla.

John W. Kircher

John W. Kircher, age 48, a resident of Aitkin, MN, died April 18, 1997, at his home.

Funeral services were held April 22, 1997, from St. James Catholic Church in Aitkin with Fr. Patrick Coyle officiating. Burial was in the Bearhead Cemetery at Burtrum.

He was born August 17, 1948, in Little Falls, MN, the son of Vernon W. and Betty L. (Galligan) Kircher. He grew up and attended school in Swanville and graduated from the Swanville High School in 1966. He joined the U.S. Army and served in Germany. Upon his discharge in 1969 he returned to Swanville and married Mary Ellen Maier on December 3, 1969, in Little Falls. They made their home in Little Falls for a time and then John worked for the DNR and lived in Two Harbors and Glenwood. They then lived and dairy farmed in Burtrum for six years. He then moved to Outing, MN, and then to Aitkin working for the DNR Fisheries Department. He has lived in Aitkin the past 10 years.

Survivors include his wife, Mary of Aitkin; two sons, Andrew of Duluth, Jeffrey of Bemidji; and daughter, Julie at home; mother, Betty Kircher of Burtrum; five brothers, Pete, Randy and David all of Burtrum, Jody of Browerville and Brian of St. Cloud, MN. He was preceded in death by his father.

Gary L. Larson

Gary L. Larson, age 59, a resident of Cushing, MN, died April 20, 1997, at his home.

Funeral services were held April 23 at Lincoln Evangelical Free Church in Lincoln, MN with the Rev. Terry Stumbo officiating. Interment was in the Scandia Valley Cemetery.

Gary L. Larson was born on November 8, 1937, in Appleton, MN, to the late Lester and Bertha “Kleven” Larson. He grew up in the Milan and Appleton areas, graduating from Appleton High School in 1956. He attended St. Olaf College for one year. He then went into the Army. Following his service in the Army, he finished his college studies at Mankato State. He had worked for many years in the field of business administration and was currently employed as the administrator of the Lutheran Senior Citizens Center in Little Falls, MN, since August of 1990. He was united in marriage to Pat on July 1, 1984, in Appleton.

Survivors include his wife, Pat of Cushing; daughters, Anna Hager and husband Norman of Wabasha, MN; and Pamela Larson of Chicago, IL; step-mother, Sylvia Larson; step-sons, Bryan Tollefson of Jacksonville, FL; and Jeffrey Tollefson of Vancouver, WA; brother, Anver Larson and wife Jo of Maple Grove, MN; sisters, Phyllis Rieppel and husband Marlin of Appleton, MN; and Loy Kelly and Mick of Albert Lea, MN; and his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Leone E. Fleckenstein

Leone E. Fleckenstein, age 89, a resident of Little Falls, MN died April 19, 1997, at St Otto’s Care Center in Little Falls.

Funeral services were held April 23 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Belle Prairie, MN with Rev. Harold J. Kost officiating. Burial was on April 24 at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis.

Leone E. Fleckenstein was born March 29, 1908, in Waukesha, WI to the late Alphonse and Mary Ann (Payant) Geniesse. She attended St. Augustine Grade School and graduated in 1925 from Waukesha High School. Leone moved to Milwaukee and worked as a secretary in real estate and insurance. She was united in marriage to Werner H. Fleckenstein on September 21, 1943, in St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in St. Louis, MD. The couple came to live in Pierz in 1946. In 1948, they relocated to Little Falls.

Survivors include her three nieces, Carol Shamburek, Phyllis Zirbel and Shirley Saathoff; four nephews, John and Tom Harrington and Joe and Andy Berger; special friends, Ruth Brutcher and Irene Dockendorf; and, many grandnieces and nephews.

Leone was preceded in death by her husband Werner on December 5, 1980; brothers, Aaron and Mark Geniesse; sisters, Constance Berger, Frances Turano, Veronica Geniesse and Mary Ann Harrington.

Margaret “Peggy” Round

Margaret “Peggy” Round, age 83, a resident of Florence, MT, formerly of Little Falls, MN, died April 11, 1997, at Missoula Community Medical Center from multiple injuries received from a fall.

Funeral services were held April 15 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Stevensville, MT. Burial was at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Florence, MT.

Margaret was born August 31, 1913, in Randall, MN, to George and Clara Calhoun. She married Harold Round on September 29, 1934, in Staples, MN.

Survivors include her husband; sons, Donald and Thomas Round of Florence; daughter, Patricia Miller of Golden Valley, MN; sisters and brothers, Sarah Ganfield of Marquelle, MI, Bea Monahan and Ray Calhoun of Little Falls, C.C. “Speed” Calhoun of San Jose, CA, Ann Hansen of Bencea, CA, Richard Calhoun of Danville, CA, Dona Bettroliff of Clearwater, FL, Clare Ritchie of Salem, MA, 18 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by sons, Robert and Raymond Round.

Pallbearers were grandsons, Douglas, Dand, Dennis, Thomas, Raymond and Patrick Round and Jeff and Tim Miller.

Lena May Sundberg

She enjoyed crocheting, embroidery, reading and visiting with people. Lena was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church and the Little Falls VFW Auxiliary.

Survivors include her daughters, Hildur Perkins and husband Ted of Excelsior, MN and Arlene Shirley of Fargo, ND; brothers, John Shaffer of Hibbing, MN and Clarence Shaffer of Belgrade, MT; grandchildren, Steve Miller, Janelle Mellick, Jeff Mowan and Julie Kersten; and, 11 great-grandchildren.
