Dorothy Albrecht

Dorothy Mae Albrecht, age 68, a resident of the Browerville, MN, area, died June 19, 1997, at St. Otto’s Care Center in Little Falls, MN.

Funeral services were held June 23 at the Lincoln Evangelical Free Church in Lincoln, MN, with Rev. Terry Stumbo and Rev. Carold Anderson officiating. Burial was in the Lewis Lake Covenant Church Cemetery near Ogilvie, MN.

Dorothy was born May 31, 1929, in Beresford, SD, to the late Elmer and Hildur (Hedman) Bergquist. In 1934, her family moved to Ogilvie, MN, where she grew up and attended school, graduating from high school in 1947. She attended Franklin School of Nursing in Minneapolis, graduating as a Licensed Practical Nurse. Dorothy was united in marriage to Elmer R. Albrecht on September 27, 1952, at the Lewis Lake Covenant Church in Ogilvie. The couple farmed in Mapleton, MN, for four years. In 1956, they returned to Ogilvie where Dorothy worked in the Mora Nursing Home. They moved to Cambridge, MN, in 1966, where Dorothy worked in the Cambridge Nursing Home. In 1968, they moved to Milaca, MN, where Dorothy worked in the Milaca Nursing Home. In 1971, they moved to the Browerville area where Dorothy worked in the Clarissa Nursing Home and later in the Staples Nursing Home until retiring in 1984. Dorothy was confirmed in the Lewis Lake Covenant Church. She enjoyed playing the organ, church activities, knitting, reading, gardening and canning food.

Survivors include her husband, Elmer R. Albrecht of Browerville; daughters, Shirley Mason of Browerville and Karen Vocelka and husband David of Park Rapids, MN; sister, Doris Anderson and husband Rev. Carold Anderson of Agenda, KS; six grandchildren, Mindy, John, James and Elizabeth Vocelka and Michelle and Sabrina Mason.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Pallbearers were the grandchildren.

Adelaide Valley

Adelaide Valley, age 97, a resident of Little Falls, MN, died June 18, 1997, at St. Mary’s Villa in Pierz, MN.

Funeral services were held June 21 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Little Falls with Father Nick Landsberger officiating. Burial was in the Holy Family Cemetery in Belle Prairie, MN.

Adelaide was born on May 14, 1900, in Belle Prairie to the late John and Senieve (LaFond) Bastien. She was united in marriage to Albert O. Valley on June 28, 1921, at St. Francis Xavier Church in Little Falls. The couple farmed in Belle Prairie Township until 1943 when they moved to Little Falls. Addie was a volunteer at St. Otto’s Care Center and was a member of St. Anne’s Society. She was a devoted and caring wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed sewing and crocheting.

Survivors include sons, Louis Valley and wife Marge of Macomb, MI, and Leonard Valley and wife Mary Ann of St. Cloud, MN; daughter, Rosyne Valley of Little Falls; daughter-in-law, JoAnn Valley of Minneapolis, MN; 23 grandchildren, 48 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Albert; daughters, Lucille Valley and Beatrice Schilling; a son, LeRoy; brothers, Arthur, Henry, Homer and Louis Bastien and sisters, Rose LeBlanc and Edna Houle.

Casketbearers were grandchildren.

Mary Witucki

Mary Witucki, age 37, a resident of rural Little Falls, MN, died June 22, 1997, from injuries received in an automobile accident.

Funeral services were held June 25 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Little Falls with Father Leroy Kremer officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery.

Mary was born in St. Cloud, MN, on August 30, 1959, to John and Mary (Woltman) Langner. She lived in Holdingford, MN, until 1964 when her family moved to Little Falls. Mary attended school in Little Falls and was united in marriage with Dan Witucki on October 26, 1976, in Sisseton, SD. They resided in Wisconsin, Alaska, and, for the last few years, in Little Falls. Mary was presently employed at Ferche Millwork, Inc., in Rice, MN.

Survivors include her husband, Dan of Little Falls; a son, Daniel and two daughters, Bobbi Joe and Latoya, all of Little Falls; one grandson, Dustin of Little Falls; parents, Vern and Mary Tanner of Little Falls; mother-in-law , father-in-law, Mrs. James (Delores) Witucki of Little Falls; brothers, Allan Langner and wife Julie of Princeton, MN, Tom Langner and wife Traci of Big Lake, MN, and Mike Tanner of Little Falls; a step-brother, Terry Tanner of Little Falls and sisters, Gloria Becher of Anoka, MN, Doreen Hanson and husband Bert of Big Lake, Heddie Nagorski and husband Larry of Little Falls, Bonnie Duscher of Little Falls, Sharon Wickham and husband Ron of Brainerd, MN, Linette Thesing and husband Dale of St. Cloud and Janene Tanner of Little Falls.

She was preceded in death by her father, John Langner; brothers, David, John and Jeff and a step-sister, Denise.

Casketbearers were Jim Witucki, Jr., Dan Myrum, Tom Langner, Allan Langner, Mike Tanner and Jamie Brynarski.

Helen Nieken

Helen A. Nieken, age 78, a resident of St. Cloud, died June 26 at St. Benedict’s Center in St. Cloud.

Funeral services were June 28 at St. Augustine’s Catholic Church in St. Cloud, with Reverend Simon Bischof, OSB, officiating. Burial was in the Assumption Mausoleum in St. Cloud.

Helen was born January 13, 1919 in Lastrup, MN, to Peter and Helen (Tretter) Leeb. She married Ernest J. Nieken on April 24, 1945, at St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church in Lastrup. She lived in St. Cloud all of her married life. She was a member of St. Augustine’s Parish.

Survivors include her son, Donald of Minneapolis; daughter, Ruth Milder of State Center, IA; eight grandchildren; three brothers, Herbert and John of Pierz, MN, and Clarence of St. Cloud; three sisters, Laura Pella and Lucille Magnen, both of Pierz; and Bernice Davis of Baldwin, FL.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband on January 4, 1997; one brother, Christ; two sisters, Elizabeth Retzlaff and Mary Kahlhammer.

Anne Bryniarski

Anne Helen Bryniarski, age 87, a resident of Randall, MN, died June 29, 1997, at St. Otto’s Care Center in Little Falls, MN.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held July 2 at St. James Catholic Church in Randall with Father Al Quade and Fr. Francis Britz concelebrating. Burial followed in the St. James Parish Cemetery.

Anne was born May 21, 1910, in Browerville, MN, the daughter of the late Peter and Mary (Kolodzizczyk) Drong. She grew up and attended school in Browerville. Anne was united in marriage to Anthony Bryniarski on January 14, 1930, in Browerville. Following their marriage, they lived in Browerville. In 1943 they moved to the Randall/Cushing area where they farmed for many years. During that time Anne also worked at St. Otto’s Care Center, Larson Boatworks and Lik-Nu Cleaners. She was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Randall where she was involved with Christian Mothers and the St. Sylvia Circle. She was also a member of the Cushing Women’s Club.

Survivors include daughters, Rita Toenies and husband Al of Little Falls, Lorraine Altrichter of Lake Alexander, MN, Mariann Host and husband Allan of Long Prairie, MN, and Joanne Collins and husband Gary of St. Cloud, MN; son, Raymond Bryniarski and wife Kate of Cushing; sister, Albena Thompson of Burnsville, MN; 23 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren.

Anne was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Anthony in 1990; infant son, Steven; granddaughter, Jacquelyne Nathe; sister, Sophie Novotny and brothers, Peter, Frank and Wally Drong.

Casketbearers were Dale Collins, Rodney Host, Steve Bryniarski, Brian Bryniarski, Brent Bryniarski and Gary Altrichter.

Gladys Dreckman

Gladys Dreckman, age 83, a resident of Little Falls, MN, died June 26, 1997, in Alexandria, MN.

Funeral services were held July 1 at Community Covenant Church in Upsala, MN, with the Rev. Stephen Josephson of Peace Lutheran Church in Little Falls, MN officiating. Interment was in Bearhead Cemetery in Pillsbury, MN.

Gladys Dreckman was born on January 22, 1914, in Glenwood, MN, to the late Sam and Molly (Raffensparger) Martin. She was united in marriage to Frank Hanson, Jr., on June 11, 1931, in Little Falls, MN. The couple made their home in Culdrum Township and Darling Township before moving to Rockford, IL and later to Minneapolis, MN. Gladys worked at bakeries in Rockford and Minneapolis. The couple’s home in Minneapolis burned and they moved to Parker Township where they purchased a farm where Gladys was busy as a homemaker. Following Frank’s death on November 3, 1958, Gladys moved to Grey Eagle, MN. She was united in marriage to Albert Dreckman on September 12, 1964, in Swanville, MN. The couple moved to Bruce Township in Todd County where they resided until Albert’s death in 1979 at which time Gladys moved to Little Falls. She spent the last two weeks with her daughters, Irene and Bernice in Alexandria, MN. Gladys loved to crochet, sew, collect rocks, polish rocks and make jewelry out of the polished rocks.

Survivors include her sons, Dewayne Hanson of Little Falls, Vernon Hanson and wife Bonnie of Long Prairie, MN, John Hanson and wife Mary of Swanville, and Bert Hanson and wife Doreen of Big Lake, MN; daughters, Irene Kittelson of Alexandria, MN, Grace Finken and husband Leroy of St. Rose, MN, Bernice Kay and husband Jerry of Felicity, OH and Viola Taylor and husband Edward of Little Falls; brothers, Clifford Martin of Minneapolis and Cecil Martin of Loveland, CO; sisters, Ethel Johnson, Thelma Kadlec and Doris Holy all of Willmar, MN; 34 grandchildren and 59 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; brothers, Claude, Harold and Ernest Martin and sister, Vida Kopacek.

Honorary pallbearer was Paul Hanson. Active casketbearers were Wayne, John Dean, Timothy, Greg and Mark Hanson, Daniel and Darvin Kittelson and Troy Finken.

Ernest Monson

Ernest Monson, age 70, a resident of Pierz, MN, died June 26, 1997 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Minneapolis, MN.

Funeral services were held June 30 at the Shelley Funeral Chapel in Little Falls, MN with the Rev. Hal Spann of the First United Church in Little Falls officiating. Burial was in the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery north of Little Falls.

Ernest Monson was born October 20, 1926, in Annandale, MN to the late Frank and Jessie (Hart) Monson. His family lived in Buffalo, MN, and in 1928 they moved to the Hillman, MN area where he attended school. He entered the United States Army on March 3, 1945, and received an honorable discharge December 6, 1945. He returned to Minnesota and lived in Little Falls where he worked for Land-O-Lakes Creamery. He moved to Minneapolis and worked all over the United States for Longyear Mineral Drilling until 1976-77 when he retired. He moved to the Pierz area and resided there until his death.

Survivors include his sons, Charles of Coon Rapids, MN and Glen of Tennessee; daughter, Debbie Sweeney of Duluth, MN; sister, Amelia Crotty and husband Donald of Hillman; brothers, Nels and wife Bertha of Randall, MN and Elmer and wife Clarice of Hillman.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Harold and sisters, Irene and Evelyn Monson, Hazel Schlegel, Marie Carlson and Violet Olson.

Casketbearers were Kurt, Donald, Ronald and Elmer G. Monson, and Ronald M. Crotty.
