Raymond L. Bordson
Jim Bordson and Penny Hanson, both of Proctor, are mourning the death of their father, Raymond L. Bordson. He passed away Sat., Apr. 26, 2003, in his Duluth home. He was 76.

Raymond was born in Madison, Minn. He was a veteran of WW II. He co-owned Bordson Painting Co., and retired from the Duluth Air Force Base as a Federal Employee. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church.

Raymond is also survived by his wife Shirley of 53 years, two other sons, two other daughters, a brother, 16 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and many special nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Interment was in Oneota Cemetery.

Kenneth W. 'Kenny' Hanson
Boyd Hanson of Proctor is mourning the death of his father, Kenneth W. 'Kenny' Hanson. He died Wed., Apr. 23, 2003 in a Duluth hospital. He was 68.

The Two Harbors resident was born in Knife River, where he grew up. He entered the U.S. Navy in 1952, and in 1955, returned to Knife River and married Lillian Hillstrom. He was employed as a machinist for the DM&IR Railway for 29 years and was also self-employed as a commercial fisherman on Lake Superior for most of his life. Kenny was a member of Knife River Lutheran Church and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Kenny is also survived by his wife Lillian, two other sons, a daughter, a brother, three sisters, eight grandchildren, and his dog Shania.

Anna 'Louise' Norman
Darlyne Zywicki of Twig is mourning the death of her mother, Anna 'Louise' Norman. She died Wed., Apr. 30, 2003, in Duluth. She was 93.

She was born in Canton, Ill. Louise moved to Floodwood with her family in 1914 and graduated from Hibbing High School. Louise married Oscar Norman in 1930 in Floodwood. She was a very community spirited lady and was a member of several community and women's clubs. She was a 4-H leader for 20 years, and member of the Floodwood Senior Citizens. Louise was a member of Hope Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday school and was a member of the Bible study group. She cooked at Bud's Place for ten years. She enjoyed flower gardening.

She is also survived by three grandchildren, two nephews, and three nieces.

Burial was in Hope Lutheran Cemetery in Floodwood.

Maureen Lois (Krohn) Roberts
Shirley Laakso of Saginaw is saddened by the death of her sister Maureen Lois (Krohn) Roberts. She died Mar. 19, 2003, after a battle against multiple myeloma. She was 73.

The Cloquet resident married James Roberts July 23, 1949, and lived the majority of her life in Scanlon and at Big Lake. Maureen was a lifelong member of Bethel Lutheran Church of Scanlon, where she sang in the choir and taught Sunday school. She worked for many years in the Cloquet school system and in the Carlton County Auditor's Office.

She is also survived by her husband Jim, a daughter, a son, a granddaughter and a great-granddaughter, and 16 nieces and nephews.

A celebration of her life will be held at Bethel Lutheran Church in Scanlon on Sat., May 10, 2003, at 11 a.m.

Helmi Ilona Lammi
Helmi Ilona Lammi, who lived in Proctor and was a Finnish language instructor in the Proctor schools, died Thurs., May 8, 2003 in her home. She was 83.

She was born in Tamarack, Minn., and was raised in Salo Township. She attended the Rice Lake School grades 1-8, and graduated from McGregor High School in 1937. Helmi married Floyd Gust Lammi in 1949. She worked for the Co-op Publishing Association in Superior, at the Range Co-op Federation in Virginia and at the Co-op Summer Camp at Arrowhead Lake. She helped found United Cerebral Palsy of Duluth and served in many positions for 40 years. She also earned a BS degree in Sociology from the University of Minnesota. She was President of the Board of Directors for Redruth Valley, which built a barrier-free assisted-living facility for handicapped persons. She was a member of Forbes United Methodist Church. Helmi sang in the Jarvenpaa Chorus, was a member of the Finnish American Historical Society, and a member and officer of Zonta.

She is survived by her husband Floyd G. Lammi of Proctor, sons Vic (Priscilla Stanley) of Denver, N.C. and Ted (Barb) of Cloquet, four grandchildren, a sister-in-law, and a nephew.

Delores A. 'Dee' Garritson
Delores A. 'Dee' Garritson, who attended Proctor schools, died Thurs., May 8, 2003, in Duluth. She was 79.

The former West Duluth resident was born in Minneapolis. She was a Duluth resident for most of her life. Dee was a former employee of Hotel Duluth Black Bear Lounge and Anton's Restaurant. She was a life member of Duprey-Alexander V.F.W. Post no. 137 Auxiliary and was an active member of the Ladybugs.

Dee was preceded in death by her parents Gust and Sophie, and a sister Rosalie.

Survivors include daughters Nona Hellen of Fergus Falls and Wanda (Eddie) Maki of Duluth, five grandchildren, and two great-granddaughters.

Burial was in Oneota Cemetery. Arrangements were made by Bell Brothers Funeral and Cremation Services.

Irene Soyring
Colleen Robertson of Proctor is mourning the death of her mother, Irene Soyring. Irene, who worked for more than 20 years at Nopeming Nursing Home, died Mon., May 5, 2003, in St. Petersburg, Fla., after a very brief battle with cancer. She was 71.

The Esko resident was born in Ogema, Minn. and was a 1949 graduate of Detroit Lakes High School. At Nopeming, she was first a nurse's aide and then a licensed practical nurse.

Irene is also survived by four other children, 12 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, three sisters, and a brother.

Michael T. Francisco
Ron Francisco of Midway Township is mourning the death of his father, Michael T. Francisco. He died Wed., May 7, 2003, in a Duluth hospital. He was 80.

He was born in Duluth and attended St. James School and Denfeld High School. He married Eve Schaff on Nov. 30, 1946, in Duluth at St. James Catholic Church. Michael taught baking classes at F.I. Salter Vocational School. He co-owned Francisco's Bakery with his brother Joe for 18 years. He worked for Clyde Iron as a dispatcher and machine assembler. He was a lifelong member of St. James Catholic Church. He was a past president of the Holy Name Society, and minister of holy communion.

Michael is also survived by his wife of 56 years Eve, two other sons, two brothers, two sisters, six grandchildren, one great-granddaughter, and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Interment was in Oneota Cemetery.

Lillian 'Lil' Mae Zuck
William 'Bill' Zuck of Proctor is mourning the death of his mother, Lillian 'Lil' Mae Zuck. She died Sun., May 11, 2003, in a Duluth hospice. She was 73.

The Duluth resident was born in International Falls. to Henry and Anna (Berglund) Christenson and lived in Duluth for 55 years. She was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church, an avid volleyball player, liked to bowl, garden, fish, and read.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a son and two sisters,

Lil is survived by a son, William 'Bill' of Proctor; a daughter, Linda 'Lyn' (Joe) Walkowiak of Duluth; a brother, Harlan (Shirley) Christenson of Internation-al Falls; 2 sisters, Mary Jane Roux of Milwaukee and Shirley Simos of Ft. Myers, FL; 3 grandchildren, Jody, Brian, and Chad; 3 great grandchildren, Tyler, Hannah, and Cody.

Memorials to St. Mary's Hospice or the American Cancer Society would be appreciated.

Arrangements by Bell Brothers Funeral and Cremation Services.

Gintautas Rapsys
Services were held yesterday, Wed., for Gintautas Rapsys. The Pike Lake resident and owner of the Blue Max Resort and Restaurant died in a car accident Thurs., May 15, 2003. He was 55.

Gint was born in Germany. His family immigrated to Chicago when Gint was a year old. After High School, he entered the U.S. Air Force and served for four years, stationed in Okinawa, the Philippines and Abilene, TX. It was in Abilene that he met his future wife. They lived most of their married life in Duluth at their home on Pike Lake.

Gint attended UMD, UWS, worked for the U.S. Post Office, Lake Superior Paper, and for the past seven years has been owner/operator of The Blue Max. He served with the 148th Minnesota Air National Guard in Duluth, fulfilling 20 years of military service.

He is survived by his wife and soulmate of 33 years Lorna, sons Ryan and Robin of Duluth, brothers Rimvydus and Vidmantas of Chicago, sister-in-laws Diane (Carl) Hargett of Las Vegas, Nev. and Marilyn (Dennis) Stebner of Punta Gorda, Fla., niece and nephews Greg and Corey Stebner of Duluth, Terry Stebner of Waconia, Minn., and Vid Jr., Ryan, Aldis, Tony Rapsys and Ramona Toner of Chicago, and Kit Kolman and Kay McDonald of Las Vegas.

Burial was at Calvary Cemetery with Military Honors. Arrangements were made by Bell Brothers Funeral and Cremation Services.

Lois Jane Jones
Charles T. Jones of Saginaw is mourning the death of his mother, Lois Jane Jones. She died Sun., May 11, 2003, in another son's Knife River home. She was 87.

The former Hermantown resident was born in Duluth and graduated from Denfeld High School. She was a secretary for the Hermantown School District for 18 years retiring in 1983. She was also a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Two Harbors.

Two daughters, two brothers and numerous grandchildren and friends also survive her.

Inurnment was in Calvary Cemetery in Rice Lake Township.

Richard 'Dick' Olson
Tim Olson of Proctor is saddened by the death of his brother, Richard 'Dick' Olson. He died Fri., May 16, 2003, in Duluth. He was 65.

Richard worked for the DM&IR Railroad for 40 years until his retirement.

He is survived by another brother Donald (Sharon) Olson of Atlanta, Ga., nephews Scott (Lori) Olson of Rochester, Brennan (Gayl) Olson of Woodbury, Jeremy (Cathy) Olson of Blaine, and niece Kristina (Justin) Korhonen of Minneapolis.

Private burial will be at a later date in Oneota Cemetery.
