Ovid Houle

Ovid A. Houle, age 79, a resident of Belle Prairie Township, MN, died July 3, 1997, at St. Otto’s Care Center in Little Falls, MN.

Funeral services were July 7 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Belle Prairie with Rev. Harold J. Kost officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery.

Ovid was born July 27, 1917, in Belle Prairie Township, the son of the late Joseph H. and Luminia (LaForce) Houle. He grew up in Belle Prairie Township and attended District 1185 school. Ovid was united in marriage to Florence L. Borash on June 28, 1945, in St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Sobieski, MN. Ovid farmed with his father and later purchased the farm, farming until 1968. He then drove truck for Tri City Paving in Little Falls from 1968 until retiring in 1982. In 1993, the couple sold the farm to Rice Creek Hunting and Recreation but continued to reside there. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards and traveling. Ovid was a lifetime member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Belle Prairie.

Survivors include his wife, FLorence L. Houle; sisters, Stella LeBlanc of Little Falls and Laura Bellefeuille of Little Falls and nephews, Mark and Joe Bellefeuille.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Leon and Maurice Houle.

Pallbearers were Mark Bellefeuille, Dean Carlson, Church Borash and Scott, Louis and Russell Doucette.

Joseph Lampert

Joseph Lampert, age 80, a resident of Bowlus, MN, died June 28, 1997, at the Country Manor in Sartell, MN.

Mass of Christian Burial was July 2 at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Bowlus with Father Silverius Schmitt officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery.

Joseph was born January 24, 1917, in Morrison County, MN, to the late Peter and Sophie (Bursey) Lampert. He farmed in the Bowlus area and was united in marriage with Helen Sobania in Opole, MN, on September 22, 1936. Joe also was employed at the Bowlus Elevator and worked at DeZurik’s until his retirement.

Survivors include his special friend, Eleanor Sobiech of St. Cloud, MN; sons, Alois of Avon, MN, Clarence and wife Lois of Bowlus, Jerome and wife Annette of Bowlus and Robert and wife Elaine of St. Cloud; daughters, Marian Schlichting and husband Roger of Rice, MN, Margaret Grell and husband John of Nisswa, MN, Rita Court of Sartell and Cathy Lampert and Hank Velasquez, both of Sauk Rapids; a daughter-in-law, Karen Lampert of Monticello, MN; 34 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; a brother, Albert Lampert of Glendale, OR; sisters, Agnes Dubiel of Pierz, MN, Martha Stiller, Mary Brenny and Sister Mary Goretti OSF, all of Little Falls, MN, Charlene Lampert of Minneapolis, MN, Patricia Frank and husband Emil of Brainerd, MN, Betty Pollock and husband Leroy of Opole, Cecilia “Chee Chee” Posch and husband James of Little Falls and Regina Lauermann and husband Wayne of Waite Park, MN.

He was preceded in death by his wife Helen on November 17, 1985; parents; a son, Tony Lampert and brothers, Roman, Peter and John.

Casketbearers were grandchildren.

Rose Tschida

Rose J. Tschida, age 92, of Little Falls, MN, died July 8 at St. Gabriel’s Hospital in Little Falls.

Funeral services were held July 11 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Little Falls, with the Rev. Nick Landsberger officiating. Interment was in the St. Mary’s Parish Cemetery.

Rose J. Tschida was born May 26, 1905 in Rockville, MN, to the late John and Mary (Carvatt) VanDenheuvel. She grew up in the Freedhem and Lastrup, MN areas. She was united in marriage to Joseph Tschida on February 5, 1924, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Lastrup. The couple made their home in the Freedhem area where they farmed for a number of years. They moved to Little Falls in 1950 where Rose worked as a baby-sitter for a short time. Rose began working in housekeeping in 1951 at St. Gabriel’s Hospital in Little Falls. She retired from the hospital in 1981. She remained living in her home in Little Falls before entering St. Otto’s Care Center in Little Falls in May of 1997. Some of Rose’s hobbies included crocheting, playing cards, dancing and singing. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Secular Franciscan Order, Little Falls V.F.W. Auxiliary, Christian Mothers and was active in the Little Falls Senior Center.

Survivors include her daughters, Viola Tretter and husband, Peter, of Upsala, MN, and Bernice Fautsch of St. Paul, MN; brothers, LeRoy VanDenheuvel of Emily, MN, Gilbert VanDenheuvel of Luck, WI, and Edward VanDenheuvel of Pierz, MN; sisters, Lavina Anderson of Golden Valley, MN, and Delores of Wisconsin; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph (January 8, 1970); son, Lester Tschida; parents, John and Mary; brother, Joseph VanDenheuvel; sister, Anne VanDenheuvel and great-grandchildren, Stacy Tretter and Sara Burggraff.

Pallbearers were Troy, Scott and Rob Tretter, Matthew Lange, Shannon Burggraff and Tom Bartkowicz.

Theodore “Ted” Motschke

Theodore “Ted” Motschke, a resident of Altura, MN died July 6, 1997 at the Community Memorial Hospital in Winona, MN.

Funeral services were held July 9 at the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Norton Township, Winona County, with many nieces and nephews from Pierz, Little Falls, St. Cloud and Minneapolis attending.

Ted was born October 17, 1910 in Pierz, MN, to Albert and Mary (Pionek) Motschke. On April 2, 1940, he married Evelyn Mussell in Norton Township, MN. He farmed until retiring in 1977 when he moved to Altura. Ted was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Norton. He enjoyed fishing as well as the outdoors. Survivors include his wife Evelyn; many nieces and nephews; one brother-in-law, and one sister-in-law, Marvin and Phyllis Mussell.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Mary Motschke, Sr.; brothers, Albert Motschke, Jr., Frank Motschke, Paul Motschke, Joe Motschke, and John Motschke and sisters, Mrs. Peter (Agnes) Brausen, Mrs. Frank (Mary) Wurzer and Mrs. Robert (Kathern) Bednar.

Herman Hegseth
Herman Hegseth, age 80, a resident of rural Browerville, MN, died November 23, 1997, at Long Prairie Memorial Nursing Home.
Funeral services were held November 26 at Zion Lutheran Church in Browerville with Rev. John Dalen officiating. Burial was in Christ the King Cemetery in Browerville.

Herman Hegseth was born June 10, 1917, in Corinth, ND, to Hans and Anna (Linseth) Hegseth. He was married to Lorraine LeMire in Sydney, MT, on October 4, 1940. Herman farmed for most of his life and also did commercial cleaning with his son, Curt, for about five years. He also worked in the oil fields of North Dakota for 15 years. Herman enjoyed hunting, fishing and loved his grandchildren. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Browerville, and was a former member of the Big Lake Sportsman’s Club.

Survivors include children, Clinton Hegseth and wife Grace of Browerville, Curtis Hegseth and wife Iris of Clarissa, MN, Connie Pohlkamp and husband Dan of Little Falls, MN, and Kaye Becker of Williston, ND; brothers and sisters, Anna Jorgenson of Williston; Inga Hanson of Williston, Olga Stenberg of Watford City, ND, and Minnie Maulding of Portland, OR; 15 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lorraine on October 24, 1997; brothers, Martin, Olaf and Erling and sisters, Mary and Hazel.

Casketbearers were Jason Hudalla, Ted Hegseth, Michael Pohlkamp, Mike Nuehring, Dennis Parteka and Joe Bryniarski.

Mary Van Risseghem
Mary (Gohl) Van Risseghem, age 89, a lifelong resident of Onamia, MN, died November 18, 1997, at the Mille Lacs Nursing Home.
Funeral services were held November 22 at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Onamia with Father William McNiff officiating. Mary was preceded in death by her husband, John and was buried next to him at the Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery.

Mary was born May 23, 1908, in Buckman, MN, to Joseph and Ernestina Gohl. Her family moved to Onamia a few years later. She was a parishioner at the Holy Cross Catholic Church since shortly after it was founded. She grew up in Onamia during the Great Depression and the Roaring ‘20s and married John Van Risseghem in 1928. John and Mary made their home on a farm three miles west of Onamia for 57 years, where they farmed, operated a small lumber mill, and raised five children. A few years after John died in 1985, Mary moved in with her daughter Ilene (John) Swiderski of Onamia, where she lived until June of this year.

Mary is survived by her sons, Roger Van Risseghem and wife Arlene of Minneapolis, MN, and Art Van Risseghem and wife Charolette of Little Falls, MN; daughters Ilene Swiderski and husband John of Onamia, Mary Bleecher and husband Art of Denver, CO, and Evelyn Dybyik and husband Bill of Brainerd, MN, 18 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, five brothers; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Casketbearers were her 10 grandsons, Duane, George, Paul, Bob, David, John and Joel Van Risseghem, Jim Swiderski, Bob Kardoes and Kirk Dybvik. Honorary casketbearers included her eight granddaughters, Patti Fisher, LuAnn Polve, Julie Green, Tawni Gaslin, Mary Van Risseghem, Nancy Van Risseghem, Connie Massmann and Colleen Van Reesmann.

Devon Notermann
Devon Marie Notermann, age two, of Apple Valley, MN, died November 24, 1997.
Mass of Christian Burial was held November 26 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Shakopee with the Rev. James P. McConville officiating. Interment was in the Catholic Cemetery, Shakopee.

Devon was born on November 4, 1995, in St. Paul, MN, the daughter of Nichole Notermann.

Survivors include her loving mother, Nichole; grandparents, Tony and Claudia Notermann and Robb and Lana Tice; uncles and aunts, Tony and Brett Notermann, Melissa Tice and Jason and Heather Zander; great-grandparents, Harold and Liz Keith, Joseph Notermann, Claude and Mary Lou Sinnen, Helen Tice and Richard Tice; special friends, Jackie and Jane Sonnek and many other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers were Brett and Tony Notermann II, Jason Zander and Adam Reiter.
