Louis VonderHaar

Louis E. VonderHaar of Lake Oswego, OR, passed away from cancer on November 11, 1997.

A Memorial Service was held at Bethlehem Church in Lake Oswego, on November 15, 1997.

He was born April 4, 1927, in Little Falls, MN. He retired from Minnesota Mining and Manufac-turing Company after 34 years of service.

Survivors include his wife Dori; son, Steve; daughter and son-in-law Kim and Brian Barry; granddaughters, Natalie and Madeline; brothers, Carl of Little Falls, MN; Werner, Issaquah, WA, and Robert of Fresno, CA.

Philip J. Dolney
Philip J. Dolney, age 72, a resident of Little Falls, MN, died December 14, 1997, at his home.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held December 17 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Little Falls, with the Rev. Nick Landsberger officiating. Burial was in the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery north of Little Falls. Military rites were conducted by Little Falls V.F.W. Post #1112.

Philip J. Dolney was born April 30, 1925, in Roseau County, MN, to the late Joseph and Rosalia (Ewalt) Dolney. He grew up in Roseau County near Greenbush, MN, and attended a country school there. He entered the United States Army on October 16, 1944, at Fort Snelling, MN, and received an honorable discharge on November 19, 1946, at Fort Sheridan, IL. During his military stay, he received the Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon, Philippine Liberation Ribbon, Bronze Star, Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal Japan. Philip was united in marriage to Cecelia Seelen on May 16, 1950, at St. Xavier Catholic Church in Little Falls. Following their marriage the couple lived in Little Falls where he drove truck for various companies. He resided in Little Falls until his death. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and a life member of Little Falls VFW Post #1112. He enjoyed watching wrestling, playing his poker machine, walking, spending time with his grandchildren and visiting with people.

Survivors include his wife Cecelia Dolney of Little Falls; sons and daughters, Mike and wife Karen of Little Falls, Edwin of Plymouth, WI, Gerald of Randall, MN, Yvonne “Bonnie” Boser and husband Roy of Pierz, MN, Irene Neyssen and husband Mike of Little Falls, Marlene Minion and husband Brad of Roseville, MN, Annette Backhaus and husband Rick of Plymouth, WI, and Sandy Fussy and husband Dale of Royalton, MN; special family friend, Bernie Dolney; 28 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sisters, Connie McFarlin of Greenbush, Theresa Prozinski of Flensburg, MN, and Cecelia Adamski and husband Pete of Stephen, MN; brother, Ted Dolney of Candy, OR and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Anton Dolney and sisters, Josephine Dolney, Mary Dolney and Esther Adamski.

Honorary pallbearers were Philip’s grandchildren and casketbearers were grandchildren, Mike Jr. Eric, Jerard and Chris Dolney, Jamie, Jeff and Brian Boser and Justin Neyssen.

John Nelson
John Nels Nelson died November 18, 1997, at his home in Milaca at the age of 68 years, nine months and four days.

Funeral services were held November 21 at the Peterson Johnson Funeral Home in Milaca. Interment was in the Borgholm Cemetery near Bock, MN.

John was born on February 14, 1929, to Albin and Effie (Oakland) Nelson in Minneapolis, MN. He started school in Minneapolis and then moved with his family to Milaca where he graduated from high school in 1948. He joined the National Guard and was activated during the Korean Conflict. He worked as a mechanic at Fort Ripley for 13 years. John worked as a mechanic, and with the wrecker service, at North Star Garage in Milaca until retirement in 1989. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and taking rides in the country.

Survivors include his wife, Dunita; two daughters, Sharon Ballow and husband Duane of Randall, MN, and Cathy Bundy and husband Mike of Little Falls, MN; one son, Donald and wife Beth of St. Cloud, MN; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; step children, Tom Thompson of Ogilvie, MN, Vicki Parker of Hillman, eight step-grandchildren; one sister, Margaret Huselid of Fresno, CA, and one aunt, Alice Nelson.

Richard Seelen

Richard J. Seelen, age 57, a resident of rural Hillman, MN, died Saturday, October 4,at St. Cloud Hospital in St. Cloud, MN.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, October 8, at St. Rita’s Catholic Church in Hillman, MN, with the Rev. Nathan Packard officiating. Interment was in the parish cemetery.

Richard was born on July 10, 1940, in Granite Township, Morrison County, MN, to the late Joseph and Minnie (Hoheisel) Seelen. He grew up in the Hillman, MN, area and attended District 151 school before attending school in Onamia, MN. He was united in marriage to Terry Tretter on September 10, 1966, at St. Rita’s Catholic Church in Hillman. The couple made their home in Leigh Township in Morrison County near Hillman, MN. Richard was employed at Bostrom’s Garage of Onamia, MN, Christle Construction in Royalton, MN, Hoffman Gravel and Excavating of Hillman, MN, and was presently employed at Neuman Manufacturing of Royalton, MN. Richard’s lifetime hobby was mechanical which he did out of his garage at home. He loved ice fishing, deer hunting, going out to the woods to “make wood” and was a “community handyman”. He was a member of the Hillman Knights of Columbus and past member of the Hillman First Response Team. Richard was critically injured on September 18, 1997, when a tornado struck and destroyed the family home and garage where he was working at what he loved most - mechanical work. He had been hospitalized in the ICU unit of the St. Cloud Hospital from the time of the tornado until his death.

Survivors include his wife, Terry Seelen of Hillman, MN; sons, Tim and Scott Seelen, both of Hillman, MN; brothers, David Seelen and wife, Shirley of Little Falls, MN; and Glenn Seelen and wife LaVonne of Hillman; sisters, Lorraine Girtz and husband Jack of Brooklyn Park, MN; Marian Rademacher and husband Richard of Brainerd, MN; Dolores Trafas and husband Marvin of Little Falls, MN; Gloria Schommer and husband Ted of Hillman, MN; and Brenda Wacker and husband James of Brainerd, MN; and granddaughters, Ashley and Vanessa Seelen.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Geri Fuhrman.

Ruby L. Booth

Ruby L. Booth, age 88, a resident of Bowlus, MN, passed away October 3, 1997 at St. Otto’s Care Center in Little Falls, MN.

Funeral services were held October 7, at Zion Lutheran Church in Little Falls with Pastor Martin Langemo officiating. Burial was in the Elmdale Lutheran Church Cemetery in Elmdale, MN.

Ruby was born December 24, 1908 to George and Ragna (Moen) Larsen in Swan River Township. She married Raymond Booth on May 17, 1930 in Elmdale Lutheran Church.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, George and Dee Booth of Bowlus; daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Ben Konsor of Aitkin, MN, daughter Benita Baggenstoss,a nd Dave Baggenstoss of Bowlus; 15 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; a brother, Donald Larsen of Royalton, MN, and a sister, Luella Rudolph of Minneapolis, MN.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents, five brothers and one sister.

Honorary pallbearers were granddaughters, Cheryl Messing, Lisa Keil, Kim Scrabeck, Karin Cook, Sandy, Jolie and Sara Baggenstoss.

Pallbearers were grandsons, Steven, Brian, Michael and John Booth, Patrick and Rob Konsor, Jeff and Jay Baggenstoss.

Rosalie Elfering

Rosalie A. “Sally” Elfering, age 80, died October 6, 1997, at her home in Freeport, MN.

The funeral was held October 9 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. The Revs. Roger Klassen, and Jim and Roger Thoennes officiated. Burial was in the parish cemetery.

Sally Elfering was born May 10, 1917, in Freeport to Frank and Agnes (Heinen) Zwack She married Elmer Elfering on August 29, 1939, in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Freeport. They farmed in Oak Township, Stearns County, until retiring in 1972. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Catholic Aid Society, Freeport Senior Citizens and Christian Mothers, Women’s Catholic Order of Foresters and Quilting Bees.

Survivors include her husband; daughters and son, Phyllis Scheerle, Little Falls; Myrna Notch, Linda Zierden and Thomas, Freeport; Judy Roering, Albany; sisters and brother, Beatrice Kortenbusch, Melrose; Vi Ramacher and Larry, Freeport; 25 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sons, David, Ronald and Dwaine; brother, Roman; sister, Armella Wensman, and one grandson.

Pallbearers were her grandchildren.

Rose Christle

Rose B. Christle, age 81, a resident of St. Cloud, MN, died October 4, 1997, at her home.

Funeral services were held October 11 at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, St. Cloud, with the Rev. Tim Baltes officiating. Burial was in Immaculate Conception Cemetery.

Rose was born August 20, 1916, in Langola Township (Benton County) to Joseph and Mary (Morgel) Warzecha. She married George Christle September 25, 1939, in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Rice, MN. She was a homemaker and lived in the Royalton and Rice area her entire life. She was a member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church in St. Cloud.

Survivors include her sisters and brothers, Agenline Lesmeister and Leo Warzecha of Roseville, CA, Joseph Warzecha of Little Falls, MN, Emma Brausen of St. Cloud and Sylvester Warzecha of Bowlus, MN.

She was preceeded in death by her parents; husband on August 29, 1976, and brothers, Louis and Aloys Warzecha.

Casketbearers were nephews, Jim, Randy, Kevin, Steve and Richard Warzecha.
