Dorothy L. Pancratz
Dorothy L. Pancratz, age 87, a resident of Little Falls, MN died September 21, 1997, at St. Gabriel’s Hospital in Little Falls.
Funeral services were held September 26 at the Shelley Funeral Chapel in Little Falls, with the Rev. Melvin Lundeen officiating. Interment was in Calvary Cemetery in Little Falls.

Dorothy L. Pancratz was born on January 1, 1910, in Little Falls Township, Morrison County, MN to the late George and Selma (Swanson) Ragan. She graduated from Little Falls High School in 1928. She worked for Gordon Fergeson Company in St. Paul, MN, at Lampert Lumber in Little Falls, for Doctors Olson and Weber in Little Falls for one and half years as a receptionist and for Jim Madden at the Pine Edge in Little Falls as a clerk for one year. She retired in 1956 when she married Lambert Pancratz and became a homemaker.

Survivors include a stepson, Tom Pancratz of Casper, WY; stepdaughter, Barbara Merner of Mesa, AZ; stepson-in-law, Chester Sears of Cushing, MN and cousins, Verone Riddle and Ed Swanson both of Little Falls, Louise Renquist of Minneapolis, MN, Beverly Clark of Richfield, MN, Dick Swanson of Anoka, MN, Clifford Swanson of Des Moines, IA, Jim Swanson of Omaha, NE and Shirley Keeler of California.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lambert Pancratz in 1969; parents; stepdaughter Gertrude ‘Trudy’ Pancratz-Sears; stepson, George Pancratz; brother, Dale Ragan and sisters, Charlotte Jackson, Genevieve Ress, and Norma Ragan.

Honorary pallbearers were longtime friends, Betty Hovet and Dorothy and Walter Rogosheske. Casketbearers were Alan Sandvol, Tom Sears, Gerald Erickson, Ken Severson, Mark ‘Maurie’ Miller and John Weber.

Simon Zajac
Simon “Sam” J. Zajac, age 80, a resident of Hillman, MN died September 18, 1997, at Abbott-Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held September 22 at St. Rita’s Catholic Church in Hillman with the Rev. Nathan Packard officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery.

Simon “Sam” Joseph Zajac was born April 4, 1917, in Minneapolis, to the late Frank and Victoria (Felius) Zajac. At age four his family moved to the Hillman area where they farmed. As a young man he left home for a time and worked for Northrup King. He returned to the family farm near Hillman and farmed. He was united in marriage to Bridge O’Konek at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Brennyville in 1948. He served as Lakin Township fire warden for over 40 years, and was a former member of the Lakin Township Board, Ramey Creamery Board, trustee of St. Rita’s Catholic Church in Hillman, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus.

Survivors include his sons and daughter, Donald of New Richmond, WI, Kenny, Marc, Richard and wife Debra, David, Dennis and wife Barb, all of Hillman and Janet Zajac of Crystal, MN; brothers, Joseph Zajac of Onamia, MN, Victor Zajac and wife Frances of Mantador, ND, Andrew Zajac and wife Anna Mae of Hastings, MN; sisters, Mary Beumer and husband Ed of Hillman and Louise Koerim and husband Bill of Las Vegas, NV and nine grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife on December 2, 1962, parents and brothers, John and George Zajac.

Casketbearers were Gary, Tom and Tim Zajac, Jimmy Beumer, John O’Konek and Gary Gotvald.

Harold Thompson
Harold J. “Tommy” Thompson, age 87, a resident of Rice, MN, died September 18 at the St. Cloud VA Medical Center.
Funeral services were September 22 at the Dingmann Family Funeral Chapel with Rev. Peter Lundholm officiating. Burial was in Wattson Township Cemetery in Leonard, ND.

Harold was born August 27, 1910, in Leonard, ND to Torge and Inger (Mostul) Thompson. He married Sarah Elizabeth Brown on January 25, 1947, in Wichita, KS. He lived in Rice for the past 15 years, and prior to that he lived in Crystal, MN and Kansas City, MO. He was a chemist for Midland Cooperatives, Minnea-polis, which is now Land O’ Lakes, until retiring in 1975. He was an Army veteran of WWII.

Survivors include his children, Philip and Sue Thompson of St. Cloud, MN; and Linda and Paul Jacobson of Mankato, MN; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Sarah on May 31, 1988; son, Michael Thompson; sisters, Olive Shippey, Alto Thompson, Florence Thompson, and Alice Hobbis; brothers, Theodore Thompson, David Thompson and Philip Thompson. Casketbearers were friends.

Robert O’Hotto
Robert L. O’Hotto, age 60, of Waskish, MN died August 31, 1997, at North Country Regional Hospital in Bemidji, MN.
A memorial service was held at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Waskish with the Rev. John Filius officiating. Military honors were provided by VFW Post 7052, Kelliher, MN.

He was born December 3, 1936, at home in Pulaski Town-ship in Morrison County to Albert and Margaret (Hoppe) O’Hotto. He was the youngest of nine children and was raised there. At 19 years of age, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served four years of active duty and eight years in the U.S. Navy Reserves. He was honorably discharged with the rank of BT2 in March of 1969. He then made his home in the Twin Cities area and was self-employed as a bricklayer and stone mason most of his life. He moved to Waskish in 1992 and had lived there since. He was a lifetime member of VFW Post 7052 in Kelliher and enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening.

Survivors include Lil O’Hotto of Waskish; three daughters, Jacqueline Burchard of Boston, MA., Julanne Stevenson of Apple Valley, MN and Jill Pieri of Minneapolis, MN; a son, Daniel O’Hotto of Minneapolis; three granddaughters; four sisters, Evelyn Butterworth and Janet Bondetti, both of Salinas, CA, Madelyn Mulheran of Eden Prairie, MN and Bernie Carlson of Bowlus, MN and two brothers, Harold O’Hotto of Minneapolis and Eugene O’Hotto of Crosslake, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Reinhart and Don.

Edward Hoffman
Edward G. “Eddie” Hoffman, age 81, a resident of Pierz, MN, died September 22, 1997, at St. Mary’s Villa in Pierz.
Funeral services were held September 24 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Pierz with Rev. Kenneth Brenny officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery.

Edward G. “Eddie” Hoffman was born January 22, 1916, in Buh Township, Morrison County, MN, to the late Charles and Margaret (Held) Hoffman. He attended District #129 School in Buh Township. Upon completing his schooling, Ed began farming. He was united in marriage to Emma M. Stuckmayer on November 10, 1943, in St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church in Lastrup, MN. The couple farmed in Buh Township. Eddie also worked as a carpenter, butcher and painter. He retired in 1978 but continued to live on the farm until moving into Pierz in 1983. Eddie became a resident of St. Mary’s Villa in Pierz in 1993. He enjoyed playing cards, dice, bingo and fishing. Eddie was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Pierz and was the Buh Township supervisor for many years.

Survivors include his wife Emma; sons, Virgil Hoffman and wife Doris of Ramsey, MN, Dennis Hoffman and wife Janice of Pierz; brothers, William ‘Bill’ Hoffman of Pierz, Victor Hoffman and wife Delores of Pierz; grandchildren, Brenda and Dale Hoffman; great-grandchildren, Brandon and Kyle Hoffman.

Eddie was preceded in death by an infant son, Matthew Hoffman; granddaughter, Karen Hoffman; brother, Raymond Hoffman; sisters, Margaret Dehler and Bertha Hoffman.

Pallbearers were Lloyd, Gerald and Robert Hoffman, Brian and Allen Stuckmayer and David Saehr.

Herbert Ploof
Herbert John Ploof, age 72, a resident of Little Falls, MN, died in Little Falls.

A Mass of Christian burial was held April 6, 1998, at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Little Falls with Father Leroy Kremer officiating. Burial was in the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery. Military rites were provided by American Legion Post #46 of Little Falls.

Herbert was born October 6, 1925, in Little Falls, to the late Herbert C. and Cecelia (Theis) Ploof. He served in the U.S. Army and received an honorable discharge in 1955. He was united in marriage with Elsie Quinn on March 16, 1963. Herbert worked as a baker in Little Falls, Chisholm, Wadena and Sauk Rapids. He was a life member of the American Legion and had been a resident at Pine Grove Manor since 1987. He enjoyed reading and watching sports.

Survivors include brothers, Don and Jerry of Little Falls and Harvey of St. Cloud, MN; sisters, Ethel Johnson of Spring Hill, FL, Ione Clinansmith of Northville, MI, and Alexia Waite of Little Falls, along with many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Jackie, Richard and Duane and a sister, Addie Vosen.

Honorary casketbearers were members of American Legion Post #46 of Little Falls.

Casketbearers were nieces and nephews of Herbert.

Frances Pint

Frances Pint, age 93, a resident of St. Otto’s Care Center, died April 4, 1998, at St. Otto’s in Little Falls, MN.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held April 6 at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Belle Prairie with Father Harold Kost officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery.

Frances was born March 10, 1905, to Mike and Margaret Dockendorf in Lake Benton, MN. She married James L. Pint, Sr., on October 4, 1923, at Holy Family Parish in Belle Prairie. The couple moved to a farm in Ripley Township, where they farmed for 35 years. After her husband’s death in 1959, Frances continued to run the farm for several years until she went to work at the Lutheran Senior Citizens Home. In 1971 Francis purchased a home in Little Falls where she lived until 1992. She then moved into the Alverna Apartments. She lived there until 1996, when she moved to St. Otto’s Care Center. She was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary.

Survivors include her two sons, James and wife Agnes of Brainerd, MN, and Gerald and wife Donna of Freedhem, MN; six daughters, Rosemary McCarthy and husband James of Apache Junction, AZ, Janet Canterbury and husband Ray of Omaha, NE, Ruby Tomberlin of Shakopee, MN, Isabell Zimbrick and husband Harley of St. Bonifacious, MN, Geraldine Rudolph and husband Jerry of Little Falls and Peggy Holsapple and husband Warren of Fort Ripley, MN; one sister, Margaret Swaser of St. Paul, MN; 27 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James; one son, Robert; three brothers; one sister; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Casketbearers were Kelly Pint, Mike McCarthy, Raymond Canterbury, Clinton Holsapple, Howard Zimbrick and Gerald Pint, Jr.

Honorary casketbearers were Naomi Rudolph, Sally Schiender, Gale Perlinger, Bernadine Venske, Lisa Retka and Brenda Isder.
Giftbearers were Jessie Nuttbrock and Tracy Pint.

Janaya Erickson

Janaya Monique Erickson, age 18, a resident of Little Falls, MN, died April 4, 1998, as a result of an automobile accident.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held April 8 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Little Falls with Father Nick Landsberger officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery.

Janaya Monique was born January 18, 1980, to William and Jean (Bachan) Erickson of Little Falls. She attended the Little Falls Community High School. She enjoyed going to school, music and art. Janaya was a member of the volleyball and softball teams, and was a member of the Honor Society.

Survivors include her parents, William and Jean (Bachan) Erickson of Little Falls; her sister, Tiffany Erickson of Rice, MN; maternal grandparents, Phyllis and Joseph Bachan of Little Falls and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Angeline and Lennart Erickson.

Casketbearers were Amanda Lashinski, Laura Sherwood, Trevor Tykwinski, Jesse and Jabeaua Bachan and John Marsolek.

Honorary casketbearers were members of the Senior Class of 1998.
