Gerald Lobin
Gerald James Lobin, age 60, a resident of Richmond Hill, GA, died August 3, 1998, in Hospice Savannah.
A Funeral Mass was held August 8 in St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, Sobieski, MN, conducted by the Rev. Raymond N. Donnay. Interment was in St. Stanislaus Catholic Church Cemetery.

Gerald was born in Swanville, MN, the son of the late James Vincent and Elizabeth (Witucki) Lobin. He was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, Sobieski. He was with Hobart Corporation/PMI for 25 years, having last worked as a supervisor.

Survivors include his mother, Elizabeth (Witucki) Lobin of Minneapolis, MN; two daughters and one son-in-law, Jody and Dave Herzuck of Crystal, MN, and Jackie Lobin of Savannah, GA; one son and daughter-in-law, James and Barb Lobin of Hudson, WI; one sister, Judy McConico of Minneapolis; two brothers, Jack Lobin of White Bear Lake, MN, and Neal Lobin of Chaska, MN, and four grandchildren, Ryan Herzuck, Amanda Herzuck, Matthew Lobin and Adam Herzuck.

Lorraine Anderson
Lorraine Merrie Anderson, age 65, a resident of Pine City, MN, formerly of Little Falls, MN, died suddenly August 1, 1998, at Lakeside Medical Center in Pine City.
Funeral services were held August 6 at the Swanson Funeral Chapel in Pine City. The funeral liturgy service was led by Fr. Michael J. Lyons with music provided by Joanne Cahill. Interment was in the State Veterans Cemetery near Little Falls.

Lorraine was born August 2, 1932, near Rice, MN, to William and Anna (Kedrowski) Christle. She attended the rural school near Rice. Lorraine, along with her family, lived in several communities: Waseca, Little Falls and Pine City. It was in Pine City where she and her husband Jim owned and operated Pine Manor No. I from 1980 to 1988. Lorraine was vice president and treasurer of this organization. Lorraine loved fishing, going for walks with her friends and cooking for her family and friends. In her younger years, she was an avid hunter. Lorraine was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.

Survivors include her husband, Jim; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon and Don Szczodroski of Little Falls and Gerry and Barth Adolph of Montgomery, AL; three grandchildren, Chris Szczodroski, Nicholas and Michael Adolph; one sister, Delphine Plofcan of Foley, MN, and many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Agnes Maciej and three brothers, Tony, Herb and Art Christle.

Casketbearers were Don Szczodroski, Barth Adolph, Dennis Anderson, Chris Szczodroski, Steve Plofcan and Larry Plofcan. Honorary casketbearers were Nicholas Adolph, Michael Adolph and James D’Aoust.

Regina Popp
Regina Popp, age 75, a resident of Little Falls, MN, died August 2, 1998, at the St. Cloud Hospital.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held August 5 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Little Falls with Father Leroy Kremer officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery.

Regina was born September 2, 1922, to Christ and Mary (Kupka) Klimek. She graduated from Holdingford High School in 1941. Regina helped on the family farm before going to work in Minneapolis, MN, in 1943. She married Eugene Popp on June 18, 1946. They lived in Pierz, MN, for two years, before moving to Little Falls. She raised her family and then went back to work in 1962 for three years at the Cliffwood Motel and one year at the St. Francis High School kitchen, and at the Lincoln School’s kitchen from 1966-1987. She was the head cook for 13 of those years. She also babysat two great-grandsons for four years. Regina was a life member of the American Legion and the VFW. She volunteered at St. Otto’s Care Center and quilted at Our Lady of Lourdes. She loved making quilts, crocheting, rosary making and sewing.

Survivors include her son, Dale and wife Colleen of Brainerd, MN; daughters, Gloria Larson Sweeney and husband Michael of Soldotna, AK, Marlys Dobis and husband Dan of St. Joseph, MN, Marlene Hopwood and husband Manvel of Royalton, MN, Janet Burt and husband Kevin of Little Falls, Gwen Nagorski and husband Dennis of Little Falls and Nadine Jelinski and husband Don of Corcoran, MN; brothers, Joe Klimek of North Prairie, MN, and Harry Klimek of Columbia Heights, MN; sisters, Mary Maciej of Little Falls, Anne Bieniek of North St. Paul, MN, Rose Opatz and husband George of Royalton and Theresa Bieniek of Holdingford; 20 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene in 1994; brothers, Albert and Roman; sister, Celia and her son-in-law, Warren Larson who died in 1992.

Casketbearers were her grandchildren.

Hazel Socher
Hazel Socher, age 82, a resident of Little Falls, MN, died August 4, 1998, at St. Otto’s Care Center in Little Falls.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held August 7 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Little Falls with Father Leroy Kremer officiating. Burial was at the Parish Cemetery.

Hazel was born on November 19, 1915, in Swanville Township, MN, to Frank Sr. and Bertha (Goehtz) Barthel. She attended school in Swanville. Hazel was united in marriage to Leonard Socher on June 12, 1933, in Swanville. They lived in South St. Paul, and then moved to Little Falls. She worked at Munsingwear for seven years, and then worked at Crestliner Boat Company for nine years, retiring in 1979. She enjoyed cooking and having lots of company. She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church and the Christian Mothers. Hazel was known as Busha by her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and their friends.

Survivors include her daughter, Joyce Doroff and husband Clarence of Little Falls, and Gladys Barber and husband Vernon of Burtrum, MN; one sister, Mildred Loken of Long Prairie, MN; seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Hazel was preceded in death by her parents; husband Leonard in 1980; brothers, Art, Frank, Henry, Otto and Raymond Barthel; sisters, Ella Anderson, Ester Schuett, Florence Kuhl and Martha Van Drasek.

Casketbearers were Alan Loken, Gary Doroff, Patrick Doroff, Chris Barber, Jeff Barber and Don Edlud.

Barbara Hodel
Barbara Hodel, age 58, a resident of Little Falls, MN, died August 4, 1998, at St. John’s Hospital in Maplewood, MN.
Funeral services were held August 8 at Bethel Lutheran Church in Little Falls with Reverend Kent Garlinghouse officiating. Burial was at St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Barbara was born October 16, 1939, in Sauk Centre, MN, to James and Francis (Dickinson) Buckley. She was raised in Sauk Centre where she attended school. In 1974 she moved to Little Falls where she did housekeeping and cooking. Barbara loved gardening.

Survivors include two sons, James Pettit of Little Falls and Dan Lewandowski of Maplewood; three daughters, Debra Gale of St. Louis Park, MN, Kim Bobick of Maplewood, and Jamie Jackson of Oakdale, MN; brother Jerry Buckley of Big Lake, MN; and nine grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Casketbearers were Jeremy Pettit, James Bobick, Jesse Bobick, Daniel Lewandowski, Tony Hugaboom and Wayne Richner.

Loretta Trettel
Loretta Trettel, age 77, a resident of Royalton, MN, died August 7, 1998, at her home.

Mass of Christian Burial was August 11 at Holy Cross Church in North Prairie, MN, with Father Silverius Schmitt officiating. Burial was in the Holy Cross North Prairie Cemetery.

Loretta was born November 11, 1920, in Bowlus, MN, to Paul and Bertha (Barton) Fussy. She lived and worked in Columbia Heights, MN, for 10 years. On May 6, 1952, she married Carl Trettel. Since then, they’ve lived and worked on their farm near Royalton and, “she arose each day and offered her day’s work for the honor and glory of God.” She was a member of the Christian Mothers and Holy Cross Church in North Prairie.

Survivors include her husband Carl Trettel; daughter, Carolyn Becher and her husband Gene of Paynesville, MN; son, Leo Trettel and wife Cindi of Royalton; daughter, Theresia Sutton and husband Dave of Royalton; brothers, Donald Fussy and wife Delores of Bowlus and Melvin Fussy and wife Karen of Richfield, MN; grandchildren, Sarah Weinand, Paul Weinand, Diana Trettel, Keith Trettel, Daniel Sutton, Stephanie Trettel, and Adrian Trettel.

She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter Mary, and her infant sister Lois.

Casketbearers were Cindi Trettel, Gene Becher, Dave Sutton, Sarah Weinand, Paul Weinand, Diana Trettel, Keith Trettel, Daniel Sutton, Stephanie Trettel, and Adrian Trettel.

Esther C. Johnson
Esther C. Johnson, age 89, a resident of Milaca, MN, formerly of Randall, MN, died August 9, 1998, at the Elim Home in Milaca, MN.

Funeral services were held August 13 at First Lutheran Church in Little Falls, MN, with Rev. Janeva Stromberg and Rev. Sanna Reinholtzen officiating. Burial was in the Randall Cemetery.

Esther C. Johnson was born October 28, 1908, in Parker Township, Morrison County, MN, to the late John and Mary (Turner) Olson. She grew up in Parker Township and attended country school. Esther was united in marriage to Clarence R. Johnson on August 3, 1932, in Little Falls. The couple farmed in Parker Township until 1971. Esther continued to live on the farm until coming to reside in Princeton, MN, in November, 1994. Esther became a resident of the Elim Home in Milaca, MN, in September, 1996. Esther enjoyed crocheting and quilting. She was a member of First Lutheran Church in Little Falls.

Survivors include her daughters, Annette Jopp and husband Junior of Waite Park, MN and Marie Williams and husband Paul of Princeton, MN; sister, Emma Huebner of St. Petersburg, FL; three grandchildren, Tina Simmonds, Jackie Bloomquist and Tony Williams; six great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence; parents, grandson, Todd Williams; two infant grandsons; sisters, Clara Hovland and Ella Hill; brother, Richard Olson.

Honorary pallbearers were John, Todd and Troy Hovland and Rick Olson.

Pallbearers were Don Fitch, Andy, Norman and Richard Hovland, Tony Williams and Lee Olson.
