Roy Larson

Roy B. Larson, age 85, a resident of Staples Care Center and formerly of Little Falls, MN, died May 2, 1998, at the Staples Care Center.

Funeral services were held May 6 at the Brenny Funeral Home in Little Falls with Father Harold J. Kost officiating. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery in Osakis, MN.

Roy was born May 16, 1912, in Osakis to the late James and Mary Larson. He farmed near Osakis most of his life, retiring in 1972 and moving to Little Falls. For the past five years he has been residing at the Staples Care Center.

Survivors include nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother and two sisters.

LaVern Hastings

LaVerne Glen Hastings, age 59, died Tuesday, May 5, 1998, near his home.

Funeral services were held May 8, 1998, at the Apostolic Lutheran Church in Kingston, MN, with Rev. Arvi Aho officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.

LaVern was born on June 2, 1938, to Henry and Mamie (Dunderi) Hastings in Kimball, MN. He attended country school near his home. LaVern worked in Minneapolis, MN, in roofing with his brother and later was a machinist. LaVern also worked on small engines in his spare time. In 1990 he moved to Lakin Township where he lived near his sister.

Survivors include four daughters, Pam Kompelien of Brooklyn Park, MN; Cindy Luzinski of Inver Grove Heights, MN; Barb Allen of Apple Valley, MN; and Sheryl Benjamin of Onamia, MN; four sons, Robert of New London, MN; Richard of Minneapolis; Troy of Willmar, MN; and John Benjamin of Onamia; 12 grandchildren, three sisters, Lorraine Soderberg of Minneapolis; Jane Soderberg of Pillager, MN; and Judy Fleck of Hillman, MN; and three brothers, George Hastings of Hillman, Earl Hastings of Missouri and Leslie Hastings of Little Falls, MN.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Doris, and three brothers, Harland, Dale and Lowell.

Myrtle M. Eckblad

Myrtle M. Eckblad, age 88, a resident of Little Falls, MN, died May 25, 1998, at St. Otto’s Care Center in Little Falls.

Funeral services were held May 28 at the Cushing Baptist Church in Cushing, MN, with the Rev. Mark Erickson and Rev. Melvin Lundeen officiating. Interment was in the Cushing Union Cemetery in Cushing.

Myrtle Mae Eckblad was born on February 21, 1910, in Little Falls, to the late William and Nancy (Osborne) Galliher. She grew up in Vawter, MN, near Royalton, MN. She attended country school and graduated from Royalton High School. She then attended St. Cloud Normal School where she received her teaching certification. Myrtle taught in the Morrison County country school system for a number of years. She was united in marriage to Ralph Eckblad in August of 1936 in Little Falls. The couple made their home in Cushing where they owned and operated the Eckblad General Store until 1960. They then moved to Little Falls where Myrtle worked for the Morrison County Rural Superintendent. Following the superintendent’s death, Myrtle took over the position of Rural Superintendent. She was the last person to serve in that capacity. Myrtle then went to work for Morrison County Social Services where she was a secretary until her retirement in 1975. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed caring for her yard. She was especially fond of her grandchildren. She was a member of Cushing Baptist Church, the Garden Club in Little Falls and the Morrison County Retired School Teachers.

Survivors include a son, Bruce Eckblad and wife, Judy of Little Falls; sisters, Eleanor Dunsmore of San Antonio, TX, and Violet Hoveland of Mesa, AZ; and grandchildren, Sarah Eckblad and fianceé Cameron Johnson of Minneapolis, MN, Kristen Yocum and husband, Jon of St. Paul, MN, and Jonathan Eckblad of Duluth, MN.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Ralph Galliher; and sisters, Irene Simonson, Hester Johnson and Margaret Johnson.

Pallbearers were Tony Wenzel, Louis Doucette, Robert Bertsch, Robert Riitters, Lorence Eckblad and Elmer Johnson.

Margaret T. Dobis

Margaret T. Dobis, died May 27, 1998, at the Country Manor Health Care and Retirement Center in Sartell, MN.

Funeral services were held May 30 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in St. Anna, MN. Burial was in the parish cemetery.

Margaret Dobis was born June 4, 1918, in Elmdale, MN, to Phillip and Mary (Schitchta) Koroll. She married Albert Dobis October 9, 1945, in St. Edward’s Catholic Church in Elmdale. She was a member of of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in St. Anna and Christian Mothers. She farmed in the St. Anna area with her husband for 40 years.

Survivors include her husband of Avon, MN; sons and daughters, LeRoy of Avon, Carol Lammers of Moorhead, Vernon of Fargo, ND, Allan of Avon and Jane Fischer of Avon; nine grandchildren and one sister, Agnes Knopik of Little Falls, MN.

She was preceded in death by her four brothers, Stanley, Peter, Mike and Roman and two sisters, Mary Schmidt Woitalla and Albina Woitalla.

Marion E. Bono

Marion Ellen Bono, a resident of Minneapolis, MN, formerly of the Randall, MN, area, died May 18, 1998, in Minneapolis.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held at the Church of St. Albert the Great on May 21 with Rev. Tom Poulsen, O.P., officiating. Burial was in Sunset Memorial Park.

Marion was born October 22, 1925, in Randall to Ernest and Louise (Griffen) Andres. She grew up in the Randall area where she attended school and graduated from the Little Falls High School. On July 22, 1945, she was united in marriage to Louis Bono in Valleho, CA. After their marriage they lived in Randall for a brief period before moving to Minneapolis where she lived until her death. Marion was a loving and caring wife, mother, relative, and friend. She touched many lives: motherless children, lonely persons living alone, and anyone needing help. She also visited many sick and elderly people through the years. Marion’s volunteer efforts included St. Albert’s Church and being a teacher’s assistant at the parish school. She helped countless other children through her many years of work with the Minneapolis Chapter of the Association for Children with Learning Disabilities and had served as president. She was a recipient of the WCCO Good Neighbor Award. She was later involved in the AIDS Aliveness Project and the AIDS Home Project. In the last three years of her illness, she crocheted 87 afgans and gave most of them to relatives and friends.

Survivors include her husband, Louie; sons, Lawrence and wife Chrisanne, Robert and wife Susanne and James and wife Melissa of Minneapolis and Steven and wife Denise; daughters, Elizabeth Bono and Kathleen Bredy and husband Larry of Minneapolis; brothers and sisters Eleanor Hines and husband Vernon of Randall, Bernard and wife Winnie of Corcoran, Wally of Farmington and Dorothy Newcomb and husband Jim of Zimmerman, MN.

She was preceded in death by her parents; infant twin daughters, Marilyn and Marlene; son, William; brothers, Harold and Lawrence; and sister, Elizabeth.

Pallbearers were Rick, Bob and Andy Andres, Fred Campas, Craig Walters and Patty Roth.

Anna Wenzel
Anna Wenzel, age 88, a resident of Little Falls, Minnesota died August 6, 1997 at the Lutheran Senior Citizens Home in Little Falls in the presence of her family.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Monday, August 11, 1997, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Little Falls, Minnesota with Father Timothy Wenzel and Father Leroy Kremer con-celebrating. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Visitation will be 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Sunday and 9 a.m. until the service hour on Monday at the Brenny Funeral Home (West Chapel) in Little Falls. Parish prayers will be at 7:30 p.m. Sunday evening at the funeral home.

Anna Wenzel was born November 2, 1908, in Minnea-polis, MN to Joseph and Mary (Motzko) Danko. As a child, she moved with her parents to Little Falls. She attended Our Lady of Lourdes School in Little Falls. Anna was united in marriage to Anthony (Toney) Wenzel on October 14, 1929, at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Little Falls. They farmed in Darling Township near Randall from 1929 until 1968 when they retired. After retiring, the couple moved to Randall for a short time and then to Route 2, Little Falls, in Pike Creek Township. Anna was a good gardener and raised beautiful flowers and vegetables. She was a homemaker, known for her excellent baking, especially bread and pies. She enjoyed visiting her children and grandchildren. She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Little Falls. Anna was also a member for many years of St. Harold’s Mission Circle of St. James Church in Randall.

Survivors include sons and daughters, Beverly (Kenneth) LeMieur, Kenneth (Jeanette) Wenzel, Thomas (Joy) Wenzel, Rep. Steve Wenzel, all of Little Falls, Lawrence Wenzel of Browerville, MN, Tony (Judy)Wenzel of Randall, MN, Virginia Wenzel of Cambridge, MN, the Rev. Timothy Wenzel of Sauk Centre, MN, Kathryn (Dan) Knight of Littleton, Colorado, Michael (Charlotte) Wenzel of Forest Lake, MN, Gerard (Kathy) Wenzel of East Grand Forks, ND, and Anne (Gary) Derosier of Fergus Falls, MN; sisters, Helen Lamusga, Beatrice Nasal, and Dorothy Anderson of Cambridge, MN; one brother, Ernest Danko of Omaha, Nebraska; 37 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Toney on May 23, 1995; two sisters, Susan Eisel and Mary Gamble; one brother, George Danko; and an infant son.

Pallbearers will be grandchildren, John and Dr. Timothy LeMieur, John Wenzel, Matthew Knight, Peter Wenzel, and Joshua Wenzel.

Memorials to Our Lady of Lourdes Church are preferred by the family.

Kenneth Boisjolie

Kenneth Boisjolie, age 60, a resident of Clearwater, MN, died August 4, 1997 at the St. Cloud Hospital.

Funeral services were held August 7 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Little Falls, MN with Father Nick Landsberger officiating. Burial was in the Calvary Cemetery. Military rites were provided by the American Legion Post #46 of Little Falls and the American Legion of Clearwater.

Kenneth was born February 5, 1937 in Pike Creek Township to the late John and Genevieve (Pierce) Boisjolie. He grew up in Little Falls and graduated from Little Falls High School. Kenneth was united in marriage with Diane Fietek on July 14, 1962 in Flensburg, MN. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He worked in the construction business in Des Moine, Iowa and in Arizona. Following construction work, he was employed at Northern Pacific as a brakeman until his retirement on February 4, 1993. He was member of the Clearwater Legion and a member of UTU (United Transportation Union).

Survivors include his wife, Diane of Clearwater, MN; a son, Timothy and wife Jennifer of Big Lake, MN; brothers, Jack and wife Mary of Little Falls, Jim and wife Linda of Cross Lake, MN; a sister, Donna Abrahamson and husband John of Big Lake; a special grandson, Ryan Kenneth Boisjolie; granddaughters, Amanda and Mackenzie; a grandson, Cody.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Kimberly Kaye; two sons, Paul Oscar and Peter John; and a brother, Jerald.

Casketbearers were Buck Dahlin, Bob Sowada, Orv Johnson, Bob King, Gordy Yaezle, and George Finden.
