Pauline A. Bohlin
Services will be held today, Thurs., at 2:00 p.m. for Pauline A. Bohlin. She died unexpectedly Sat., June 28, 2003, in a Duluth hospital. She was 52.

Pauline, a Proctor resident, was born in Duluth to Donald and Alice (Forsberg) Lundquist. She was a 1969 Proctor High School graduate. Pauline was employed with the Gopher Restaurant and Lounge for over 15 years, selling pulltabs.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include her seven children Jamie (Jennifer) of Duluth, Rachel (Bruce) of Cotton, Stephanie (Doug) Miller of Cotton, Jeremy of Canyon, Bridget (Adam) Bohlin of Duluth, Jesse Bohlin and Jarred Bohlin of Proctor, siblings Dawn VanValkenburg of Duluth, Laurie (Richard) Lindgren of Calif., and Scott (Robin) Lundquist of Superior, the children's father Dennis Bohlin of Moose Lake, six grandchildren, and her significant other Denny McCauley of Duluth.

Visitation is today from 1:00 until the 2:00 p.m. service in Bell Brothers Chapel.

Arrangements were made by Bell Brothers Funeral and Cremation Services.

Fay McKenzie Peyton
A Celebration of Life service will be held Thurs., July 17 for Fay McKenzie Peyton. She died Sat., July 5, 2003, at Reflections on Mirror Lake. She was 94.

She was born Feb. 23, 1909, in Superior, Wis. to Hugh and Teckla McKenzie. She graduated from Superior Central High School, spent a year abroad training as a concert pianist under I. Felipe in Paris, France. She continued her music studies at the Julliard School of Music in New York and studied art and dancing at the Art Student's League in New York City. A lifelong student, she continued her study of art in Duluth with David Erickson, Knute Helner, and University of Minnesota visiting artists.

In 1930, Fay married John Peyton. They moved to Ashland, Wis., where she taught dancing and piano for two years. They returned to Duluth where she continued to teach piano and in 1936, influenced by Thoreau's 'Walden Pond', Fay and John moved to Hermantown where they built their farm and lived a simple life.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband John, son Hamilton, a brother Roe, and a sister Beryl.

She is survived by her daughter Beryl (Tom Ward) Peyton and grandchildren Kris (Gerry) Sweetnam, Lori Mansell, Lisa (Dale) Merrell, Tanya Peyton, Todd (Marie) Peyton, Terry (Leah) Peyton, Tammy (Alan) Nguyen, Tina (Lee) Davis, Tara (Kris) Bryant, fifteen great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

The service will be held at the Duluth Cremation Chapel at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be directed to the Duluth Children's Public Library.

Richard Frank Lilliberg
Services were held yesterday, Wed., July 9 for Richard Frank Lilliberg of Old Hwy. 2. He died unexpectedly Fri., July 4, 2003 in his home. He was 52.

Rick was born in 1951 in Duluth to Leslie and Evelyn (Carlson) Lilliberg. He was a 1969 graduate of Denfeld High School. After high school he joined the Minnesota Army National Guard. He worked for the Duluth School Board, Duluth Steel Plant and retired in 2002 after 26 years from the Duluth Missabe and Iron Range Railway Company. He was a former member of Proctor Moose Lodge No. 1302. He married Nancy Fairbanks in 1977 in Proctor.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Robert.

He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Nancy; a daughter Sherri (Darin Lind) of Saginaw; a son, Lucas of Proctor; a granddaughter, Jaycee May Lind of Saginaw; sisters, Janice (Bud) McGraw of Idaho, Carol (Eldin) Hage, Susan Lilliberg and Pamela Kjerstad, all of Duluth; brothers Glen of Barnum, Jerry (Cheryl) and Timothy, both of Duluth and many nieces and nephews.

Burial was in Bethany Cemetery with military honors accorded by the Duluth VFW Combined Honor Guard.

Margaret Arfsten
Former Proctor resident Margaret Arfsten passed away Wed., July 2, 2003, in Hoffman, Minn. She was 86.

Margaret was born in Hillhead, South Dakota. She attended Nordland School District 1 in Marshall County. She married Herman Henry Arfsten in Fergus Falls, Minn., in 1936. They farmed near Nashua before moving to Proctor. They later moved to Browns Valley for several years, and then to Hoffman.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1987.

She is survived by her children Ronette (Jerry) Nelson of Mora, Sharla (Paul) Anderson of Kensington and Milan Arfsten of Duluth, grandchildren Andrea Nelson, Janelle Greengo, Melodee Smith, Mikkel Anderson, Mark Anderson, Annee Arfsten, Alaina Arfsten, and Troy Arfsten, and four great-grandchildren Alexa and Cailin Greengo, Zachary Smith and Justice Arfsten.

Funeral services were held Monday in Hoffman. Burial was in the Valley View Cemetery in Browns Valley.

Lois Mae Dock
Lois Mae Dock, who was born in Proctor and graduated from Proctor High School, died Tues., July 1, 2003 in Duluth. She was 82.

The Lakeside resident was born to Richard and Nellie Coughlan on July 24, 1920.

She attended St. Scholastic and did some modeling. She was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church.

She is survived by her husband, Virgil of Duluth; a daughter Suzanne (David) Van Deusen of Roseville; sons Thomas (Betty Mae) of Eau Claire, Wis., Dennis (Suzanne) of Plymouth, Robert (Kathy Korsgaard) and Daniel (Karen) both of Duluth; 14 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Burial was Saturday in Oneota Cemetery.

Marshall H. Larson
Marshall H. Larson, who was born in Midway Township and was a lifelong Munger and Hermantown resident died, Wed., July 2, in his Morris Thomas Rd. home. He was 84.

He was an employee of the Duluth Missabe and Iron Range Railway for 37 years, retiring as car inspector in 1979. He was a member of NARVRE, Proctor Moose Lodge No. 1302 and Solway Senior Citizens.

He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Marie Larson in 1963, brothers, Roy and Russell Larson and his twin sister, Marjorie Strum.

He is survived by his wife, Viena H.; a son, Timothy (Gail) of Hermantown; a daughter, Linda (Roland) Anderson of Deerwood; a sister, Beverly (Ray) Langenbrunner of Cloquet; a brother, Warren Larson of Duluth; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Burial was in Oneota Cemetery.

Edward 'Mike' Johnson
Steven M. (Katrina) Johnson of Proctor is saddened by the death of his brother Edward 'Mike' Johnson. He died Wed., July 2, 2003, in his Martin Road home. He was 54.

He was a 1969 graduate of East High School. He later entered the U.S. Navy, serving aboard S.S. Coral Sea aircraft carrier in Vietnam. He was employed by Kramer & Moen machine shop as a machinist for the past 20 years. He was a member of VFW Post #137.

Mike is survived by his father Martin Edward Johnson of Duluth, another brother, four nephews, one niece, and his beloved dog Max.

Interment was at Oneota Cemetery. Flag presentation accorded by the Duluth Combined Honor Guard.

Margaret Johanna Mindestrom
Margaret Johanna Mindestrom, who grew up in Proctor, the daughter of Thomas and Anna Amundson, died Wed., July 2, 2003 in Pinesville, NC. She was 83.

The Fort Mill, SC resident was born in Leonard, ND. On July 6, 1940, she married Ernest William Peters. They lived in Esko where they raised five children until Ernie's death in 1970. She lived in the Duluth area until August of 1985, when she married Woodrow Mindestrom and moved to Grand Marais. Margaret has been a South Carolina resident since 1999. She was a member of Grace Presbyterian Church in Fort Mill, SC, and formerly a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Duluth, and Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Grand Marais.

Survivors include her sons Richard Peters of Missoula, Mont., Thomas (Alyce) Peters of Warwick, RI, Robert (Sandy) Peters of Duluth, and Garry (Kathy) Peters of Portland, Ore., her daughter Margerie (Joe) Dondero of Fort Mill, SC, her brother Doran (Pat) Amundson of Seattle, Wash., 21 grandchildren, and 27 great-grandchildren.

Visitation 5-7 p.m. Thurs., July 10, 2003, and continues Friday from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. service at Bell Brothers Chapel. Burial will be at Apostolic Lutheran Church.

Arrangements were made by Bell Brothers Funeral and Cremation Services.

Kathleen M. 'Kathy' Bush
Kathleen M. 'Kathy' Bush, who was the PACC director and Adult Basic Education Coordinator in Proctor and Hermantown for eight years and served on the school board for 15 years, died Mon., July 14, 2003, in her home surrounded by her family following a brief illness. She was 55.

The Caribou Lake resident was born Dec. 17, 1947, in Owatonna, Minn., to Charles and Lucille (Wencl) Svatos. She had lived in Hoyt Lakes and Soudan in her youth, living in Duluth since 1967. Kathy was a 1965 graduate of Tower-Soudan High School. She graduated from Ely Junior College in 1967 and UMD in 1969. In addition to her duties as PACC Director and Adult Basic Education Corodinator, she lobbied the State Legislature to build a new Community Center in Proctor. She was secretary of the Rails Endowment for Athletic, Academic and Art Development (REA3D) from 1996 until her death. Kathy was a teacher at Cathedral High School and a homebound teacher for the Proctor and Hermantown School Districts and had been a member of the Proctor School Board from 1979-1994. She was a longtime Knowledge Bowl volunteer and Proctor High School coach. She worked for Lutheran Social Services as a group home youth worker and as the Community/ Church Relations Coordinator. She was an advisor for YMCA Youth in Government and served on the Board of Management. Kathy had been the campaign director for State Rep. Mary Murphy in 1996 and 1998 and was a volunteer for the DFL Party. She was a member of St. Raphael's Catholic Church where she was a Sunday School teacher, reader, and volunteer. She married Keith Bush in 1969 in Tower.

She was preceded in death by her father Charles.

Survivors include her husband Keith, daughter Amy Bush of Calif., sons Christopher of Calif., Anthony and Nathan, both of Duluth, mother Lucille Svatos of Tower, Sister Mary (Kent) Jacobson of Cloquet, brothers Ray (Shelley) of Iron, Minn., Ron (Sharon) Svatos of Ely and Steve Svatos of Tower, and several nieces and nephews.

A gathering of family and friends will be from 10 until the 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial, Fri., July 18, in St. Raphael's Catholic Church, 5779 Seville Road. Inurnment Lakeview Cemetery, Tower. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to the Kathy Bush Memorial Knowledge Bowl Fund, c/o Proctor School District, Proctor, MN 55810.
