Henry Sobieck
Henry Sobieck, a resident of Bowlus, MN, died January 15, 1998, at the Albany Area Hospital.

Funeral services were held January 19, 1998, at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Opole. Burial was in the parish cemetery.

Henry Sobieck was born in North Prairie, MN to Daniel and Agnes (Warzniek) Sobieck on July 16, 1902. He married Louise Kieffer on January 13, 1930, in North Prairie. He was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Opole and he farmed in Opole until retiring in 1968.

Survivors include his wife of Bowlus; children, Alvina Engelmeier of St. Anthony, MN, Jeanette Morgel of Minneapolis, MN, and Pat Kollodge of Rice, MN; 15 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Angelo; and nine brothers and sisters.

Fredrick Kieffer
Fredrick ‘Fred’ Kieffer, age 46, formerly of the Morrill, MN area, died January 16, 1998, in Pine River, MN.

Funeral services were held January 19 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Morrill, MN with Father Thomas Olson officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery.

Fred was born in Little Falls, MN on October 6, 1951, to John and Dolores (Sand) Kieffer. He grew up near Morrill and attended school in Foley. Fred spent most of his adult years in the Brainerd area.

Survivors include his parents, John and Dolores Kieffer of Morrill; brothers and sisters, Kathleen Brown of Eagan, MN, Mary Lou Hereau of Apple Valley, MN, Sue Smith of Bloomington, MN, Jack Kieffer of Morrill, Dick Kieffer of Morrill, Barb Rich of Princeton, IN, and Lisa Brown of Ramey, MN; 11 nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, John and Rose Kieffer, Frank and Catherine Sand; and a niece, Ashton Kieffer.

Casketbearers were Herb Foss, Bob Kieffer, Virgil Blaszak, Tim Kieffer, Ronnie Graczyk, and Bill Kieffer.
Daniel Super

Daniel Super, age 78, died January 16, 1998, in Enid, OK. He was formerly from Flensburg, MN. Burial was was held January 20, 1998, in Salina, KS.

Survivors include his daughters, Mrs. Greg (Linda) Rosalia, Upland, CA; Mrs. Florian (Violet) Wotzka of Little Falls, MN; Mrs. Ken (Joyce) Leidenfrost of Little Falls; Mrs. Philip (Adrienne) Wozniak of St. Paul, MN and Emanuel Super of Flensburg.

Leslie Bass
Leslie Bass, age 82, a resident of Browerville, MN, died January 14, 1998, at the Long Prairie Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services were held January 19 at the First Baptist Church in Long Prairie, MN, with Revs. Ron Hibbs and Nicholas Bell officiating. Burial was in the Woodman Cemetery in Clarissa, MN.

He was born on September 21, 1915, in Staples, MN, to George and Signa (Brostrom) Bass. He married Thelma Denniston on October 9, 1934, in Staples. Les graduated from Staples High School. He lived and farmed in the Staples area until 1941 when he moved his family to California and he worked in the shipyards during the early years of WWII. Les and his family moved back to the rural Browerville area in 1943, where he farmed in Little Elk Township until 1970, when he and Thelma moved into Browerville. Les then went to work in Minneapolis at Midland Co-op until 1980; he enjoyed working at Midland as well as farming. Les was the assessor for Little Elk Township for 25 years and was on the Randall Creamery Board for many years. Les and Thelma enjoyed spending their winters in Texas and Arizona. Les was a member of the First Baptist Church in Long Prairie.

Survivors include his children, Jeanne (Ervin) Johnson of Fridley, MN; Janice (Marvin) Johnson of Fridley; and Bill (Barb) Bass of Long Prairie; brothers and sisters, Ray (Virginia) Bass of Ventura, CA and two nieces; seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Thelma in 1995.

Casketbearers were Benjamin and Matthew Ree, Troy and Nathan Tschida, Kristina and Michael Gonzalez, Eric and Jessica Johnson.

Honorary pallbearers were Arnie and Florence Westerberg, Ed and Bernice Hadash, Jack and Teresa Moraski, Roy and Eva Buhl, Roger and Marge Weske, Randy Reidel, Kate Heiling and Barney Bryniarski.

Larry Even

Larry Even, age 77, a resident of St. Cloud, MN, died July 14, 1998, at his home.

Funeral services were held July 18 at Immaculate Conception Church in Rice with Rev. Al Stangl and Rev. David Maciej officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery.

Larry Even was born October 26, 1920, in Forman, ND, to John Baptist and Margaret (Ebersviller) Even. He married Wayva Mathews on July 10, 1945, in Hot Springs, SD. He was a manager of Benton Co-op Telephone Co. from 1957-1984. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Rice American Legion Post 473, Rice Lions Club, and the N.T.C.A. He was a Navy veteran of WWII.

Survivors include his sons and daughters, Richard of Princeton, TX, Michael of St. Joseph, MN, Duane of Sauk Rapids, MN, Krissie Beastrom of Rice, Randy of St. Cloud, MN, David of McKinney, TX, and Sandra of Coon Rapids, MN; sisters, Marie Loch of Forman, ND, Veronica Torgeson of Breckenridge, and Gertrude Johnson of Brecken-ridge; twelve grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Wayva on April 13, 1984; brothers, Ralph, Wilfird, and John; sister, Doris Remme; and granddaughter, Robin Kay Even.

Casketbearers were Richard, Michael, Duane, Randy, David, Tye, and Ryan Even and Richard Beastrom.

Ernest O’Dell

Ernest O’Dell, age 75, a resident of Motley, MN, died July 16, 1998, at the St. Cloud Hospital.

Funeral services were held July 18, at the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Staples, MN, with Reverend Allen Westover officiating. Burial was in the Mount Nebo Cemetery in Hewitt, MN.

Ernest O’Dell was born October 23, 1922, in Necedah, WI, son of the late Emery and Mayme (Saunders) O’Dell. He worked in home construction in Illinois and then in Tucson, AZ for many years. He moved to Becker Township in 1983 where he was a resident until his death. He enjoyed hunting and the outdoors.

Survivors include his three daughters, Gerry (Allen) Westover of Augusta, CA, Connie O’Dell of Tucson, AZ, JoAnn (Wayne) Riddle of Tucson; two sons, Robert (Anita) O’Dell of Nisswa, MN, and Ronald (Jennifer) O’Dell of Georgetown, TX; 13 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Angeline L. Scheibel

Angeline L. Scheibel, age 95, a resident of the Foley Nursing Center, Foley, MN, formerly of Zimmerman and Ramey, died June 9, 1998, at the Center.

Funeral services were held June 13 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Morrill, MN. Fr. Thomas Olson officiated. Burial was in the parish cemetery.

Angeline Scheibel was born October 3, 1902 in Farming, MN, to John and Mary (Theuringer) Koppy. She married Christ Scheibel June 4, 1929, at Lake City, SD. She lived in Lake City until 1936 when she moved to Ramey. In 1983, the couple moved to Zimmerman and she moved to the Foley Nursing Center in 1995. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Morrill where she was a member of the Christian Mothers.

Survivors include her sons and daughters, Betty Villalta, International Falls, MN, Jim and Suzanne of Bozeman, MT, Judy and Al Acker of Zimmerman, MN, C. Gemma and Bob Ronning, Lee Summitt, MO, Faye and Rich Young of Foley, Sandy and Jerry Brummer of Zimmerman, Dan and Val of Elk River, MN; 29 grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren; sisters, Veronica Nolan of Seattle, WA, Theresa Scheibel of Foley and Martha Kettler of Roseville, MN.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Christ on September 19, 1988; son, William on September 19, 1993; daughter, Ruth Dinnella, July 1, 1997; grandsons, Mark and Neal Dinnella and a son-in-law, Don Villalta.

Pallbearers were grandchildren.

Maxine Hiatt

Maxine June Hiatt, age 72, a resident of Sartell, MN, formerly of Cushing, MN, died June 9, 1998, at the St. Cloud Hospital in St. Cloud, MN.

Funeral services were held at the Cushing Baptist Church on June 12 with the Rev. Mark Erickson officiating. Burial was in the Cushing Union Cemetery.

Maxine was born on September 7, 1925, to the late Bert and Mable (Goumaz) Hocker in Rifle, CO. As a young girl, she moved with her family to Springfield, IL, where she grew up and attended school. She later met Marvin Hiatt and the couple were married on September 18, 1942, in Springfield. The couple moved to Cushing in 1958. Maxine worked for Mussingwear in Little Falls, MN, as a seamstress and raised four children. She retired from Mussingwear in 1977 and continued living in the Cushing area. Marvin passed away February 14, 1980. Maxine moved to the Country Manor Apartments in Sartell in January of 1998, residing there until her death. She was a member of Cushing Baptist Church. She enjoyed sewing, feeding birds and spending time with her family.

Maxine is survived by her daughters, Delores Thompson and husband Dan of Superior, WI, and Diana Vaverek and husband Wayne of Sauk Rapids, MN; son, David Hiatt and wife Louise of Buhl, MN; brother, Tom Hocker; sister, Geneva Mayberry; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Marvin on February 14, 1980; son, Daniel in 1962; brothers, Joe and Bill Hocker and a sister, Doris Hocker.

Honorary pallbearers were Cushing Baptist Christian Women. Pallbearers were Dustin and Hope Vaverek, Jeff and Roger Radimecky, Theresa Carrick and Pam Longrie.
