Tyler Boody

Tyler Boody, age 17, a resident of Little Falls, MN, died June 8, 1998, in Crow Wing County.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held June 12 at the Middle School gymnasium with Father Harold J. Kost officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery.

Tyler was born and raised in Little Falls. He grew up loving to work and got started at an early age with mowing lawns and shoveling snow. He even had tennis shoes with lawn mowers on the bottom. Tyler loved to help his grandparents with any thing they needed done. Of course, the grandmas always had a special treat ready for him. He saved his money and last year bought himself some hunting land near the family cabin on Crow Wing Lake. He enjoyed going to “his land” to cut trees and watch the deer. He planted many trees and was very proud of his “land”. Tyler bought a new 4-wheeler this year and loved riding the trails with his family. He was a junior last year at Little Falls Community High School and everyone knew when he was there as he parked his “truck” in his special place everyday. After school he went to the bus/garage where he worked on trucks, buses and was just “Tyler”.

Survivors include his mother Linda LeMieur and husband Bob of Little Falls, his father, Gerald Boody and wife Tammy of Bowlus, MN; sisters, Heidi Boody and fianceé Bill Strong of Little Falls, Ivy LeMieur of Little Falls, Kris and Jessica Peterick, and Katie Boody of Bowlus; brothers, Logan, Cody, and Sam Boody of Bowlus; grandparents, Bob and Audrey Eix of Little Falls, Frank and Elaine Boody of Little Falls and Lorraine LeMieur of Little Falls.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Bob LeMieur Sr.; and an aunt, Mary Eastman.

Honorary casketbearers were the class of 1999.

Casketbearers were Jessica Waddell, Michelle Kaiser, Justin Luberts, Chad Newman, Landon Westerman, Andy Pantske, Kelly Rutz, Chris Burgardt, Mike and Dan Golombiecki.

James G. Fleischhacker

James G. Fleischhacker, a resident of Brainerd, MN, died June 5, 1998, at home after a long battle with colon cancer. Burial was from the Riverside Church.

He was born December 31, 1944, to George and Florence (Baer) Fleischhacker in Brainerd. He attended country school his first years, then the Brainerd schools, graduating in 1962. He married Margaret (Marty Helstrom) May 28, 1966, in Brainerd. James worked at Thelen Heating & Roofing for 31 years. He retired in November, 1996. He was a member of the American Legion Post 225 of Brainerd. He especially enjoyed fishing in Wisconsin.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Troy (Dondi) and Jason of Brainerd; two daughters, Lori and Jodi of Brainerd; three grandchildren, Codey and Chelsea Fleischhacker and Alex Bast; his mother, Florence of Brainerd; two brothers, LeRoy of Brainerd, Donald of Fort Ripley, MN; two sisters, Elizabeth Sever of Tempe, AZ, and Donna Pint of Freedhem, MN. He was preceded in death by his father.

Honorary pallbearers were Warren Holsapple, Jim Gau and Bobby Austin.

Casketbearers were Stanley Eisel, Craig Holsapple, Clinton Holsapple, Ricky Eisel, Stanley Eisel, Al Fleischhacker and Irv Zettervall.

George G. (Bud) Batters

George G. (Bud) Batters, age 69, a resident of Little Falls, MN, died June 21, 1998, at the St. Cloud Hospital in St. Cloud, MN.

A private graveside service will be held at a later date.

George (Bud) Batters was born to the late Clarence and Evelyn (Blake) Batters on May 18, 1929, in Little Falls in his home, where he resided for his entire life. He attended Little Falls schools, graduating with the class of 1947. He participated in sports in high school and avidly hunted with his relatives and friends. As a young man, Bud worked with his father at Batters Sand and Gravel. He was united in marriage to Joane VanThuyne in 1953. In 1963, he became active in road construction throughout Minnesota. He was then employed by Morrison County Road Maintenance. He retired in 1991 to his remote control and his garden.

Survivors include his wife, Joane Batters of Little Falls; daughter, Wendy Batters of Minneapolis, MN; sons, Bruce Batters and wife Susan of Little Falls, Michael Batters of Little Falls, Stephen Batters and wife Tina Rakow Batters of Little Falls and Mark Batters of Little Falls; sisters, Billie Batters Bennett of Little Falls and Gayle (Batters) Phelps and husband Al of St. Paul, MN; five grandsons; one granddaughter, and an expectant granddaughter, as well as many neighbors and friends.

Louise Sobieck

Louise Sobieck of Bowlus, MN, died June 19, 1998, at the St. Cloud Hospital.
Funeral services were held June 22, 1998, at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Opole, MN. Burial was in the parish cemetery.

Louise Sobieck was born June 28, 1910, in North Prairie, MN, to Joseph and Julia (Schwintek) Kieffer. She married Henry Sobieck on January 13, 1930, at North Prairie. She was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Opole and a member of the Christian Mothers. She farmed in the Opole area with her husband until retiring in 1968.

Survivors include her children, Alvina Engelmeier of St. Anthony, MN, Jeanette Morgel of Minneapolis, MN, and Pat Kollodge of Rice, MN; 19 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and sisters, Florence Maciejewski of St. Wendel, MN, and Edna Sufka of Little Falls, MN.

She was preceded in death by her husband who died on January 15, 1998, son, Angelo, granddaughter, Lori Engelmeier, and two brothers, Otto and Louis.

Robert E. “Bob” Steele

Robert E. “Bob” Steele, age 84, a resident of Little Falls, MN, formerly of Alexandria, MN, died June 24, 1998, at his home.

Funeral services were held June 26 at the Shelley Funeral Chapel in Little Falls with Rev. Suzanne Cekalla officiating. Burial was in the Minnesota State Veteran’s Cemetery. Military rites were conducted by the Little Falls American Legion Post #46.

Robert E. Steele was born July 21, 1913, in Chicago, IL, to the late Earl and Maud (Cochran) Steele. The family moved to Colorado in 1919 where Bob graduated from Greeley, Colorado, High School in 1932. He worked as a cowboy in New Mexico for two years. He then worked as a miner and as a photographer. He returned to Chicago and worked at Abbott Laboratories in their cost accounting department on IBM equipment. In 1940, he began work for the Department of Agriculture in Denver, CO. Bob entered the U.S. Navy in 1942 and served on submarines until his discharge in 1945. He returned to Denver and resumed working for the Department of Agriculture until his recall into the U.S. Navy in 1950 during the Korean Conflict. He returned to work at the Department of Agriculture on IBM computers until transferring to Lowry AFB in 1953, where he taught computers. Bob was united in marriage to Norma Spealman on April 14, 1954 ,in Denver. He was transferred in 1954 to Sheppard AFB in Wichita Falls, TX, and helped train Air Force officers in computer technology until retiring in 1971. The couple purchased Big Horn Bay Resort on Lake Ida in 1971, near Alexandria, MN, which they operated until 1981. They returned to Greeley in 1981 and came to reside in Little Falls in 1997. Bob was a medal winner in the Senior Olympics, competing from 1986-94. He was a charter member of the Golden K Kiwanis in Greeley and served as the program chair for many years. He was active in Mended Hearts, Meals on Wheels, Catholic Charities and the Centennial Village, all in Greeley.

Survivors include his wife, Norma; son, Vance Steele of Little Falls; daughter, Nancy Dobmeier and husband Clarence of Little Falls; and grandchildren, Brett and Brittany Dobmeier of Little Falls.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Phil Steele; and sister, Janice Steele.

Hugh Gaffney

Hugh Gaffney, age 101, of Randall, MN, died June 22, 1998, at the VA Hospital in St. Cloud. Arrangements are pending with the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Randall.

Ralph Carlson
Ralph Carlson, age 76, a resident of rural Little Falls, MN passed away June 15, 1998 at his home.

A Requiem High Mass was held June 19 at St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church in St. Cloud, MN with Father Jorge Diaz officiating. Burial was in St. Edward’s Catholic Cemetery in Elmdale.

Ralph was born November 24, 1921 in Minneapolis, MN to Chester and Muriel Carlson. He was a graduate of Edison High School and the University of Minnesota. Ralph was a World War II Veteran who served with the U.S. Army. He was united in marriage with Kathleen Feuling on October 19, 1957 at St. Joachim Catholic Church in Plainview, MN. They resided in Northeast Minneapolis until 1966 when Ralph became employed with the State of Minnesota and they relocated to Little Falls. Ralph had much love and concern for the Catholic Church and for his country. Ralph was also a member of the Holy Name Society.

Survivors include his wife, Kathleen of Little Falls; sons, Joseph of Sauk Centre, MN, Thomas and Peter of St. Paul, MN, James of Mahtomedi, MN, John of Roseville, MN, Matthew of Spring Grove, PA, Michael of Sao Paulo, Brazil, and Christopher at home; daughters, Mary Masog of St. Cloud, Ann Slagle and husband Gregory of Roseville, Therese Angele of Post Falls, ID, and Marie Carlson of Sartell, MN, sisters, Mrs. Robert (Audrey) Norgren of Minneapolis, Mrs. Gail Cullen of Fridley, MN, and Mrs. David (Julie) Hartung of Stillwater, MN; and 25 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Paul J. Carlson; grandsons, Steven Masog and Luke Carlson; and a brother, Paul Q. Carlson.

Casketbearers were his sons.

Leo ‘Jim’ Boisjolie
Leo “Jim” Boisjolie, age 66, a resident of Crosslake, MN, formerly of Little Falls, MN died March 6, 1998 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Brainerd, MN.

A Mass of Christian Burial was in held March 10, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Little Falls, with Father Nick Landsberger officiating. Burial was in the Oakland Cemetery. Military rites were provided by V.F.W. Post #1112 of Little Falls.

Jim was born December 28, 1931 in Randall, MN to John “Oscar” and Genivieve (Pierz) Boisjolie. He was united in marriage with Geraldine Hoeschen on September 28, 1963 in Waubun, MN. Geraldine died September 16, 1992. Jim was united in marriage with Linda Hochstetter on May 27, 1994 in Deadwood, S.D. He spent most of his life serving this country. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Following his honorable discharge, he worked at Camp Ripley, retiring from the National Guard in 1986. His hobbies consisted of fishing, hunting, golfing and cooking, and he enjoyed serving his neighbors and friends in any way he could. He was a member of V.F.W. Post #1112 of Little Falls.

Survivors include his wife Linda; sons, Robert of Richfield, MN and James of Fargo, ND: daughters, Joanne Boisjolie of Chicago, IL, Roxane Stutzman and husband Todd of Fargo, ND; step-daughters, Nichole Fredricks of Brainerd, and Darci Fredricks of Minneapolis; a brother, John (Jack) Boisjolie of Tucson, AZ; a sister, Donna Abrahamson of Big Lake, MN; a granddaughter, Maria Stutzman.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Geraldine; daughter Sharon; brothers Jerry and Kenny.

Casketbearers were Rick, Dale, Joe and Mark Abrahamson, Scott Francis, and Jason McCollum.
