Norbert Wehlage
Norbert “Norb” B. Wehlage, age 74, a resident of Pierz, MN, died October 3, 1997, at his home in Agram Township, Morrison County, MN.
A Mass of Christian burial was held October 7 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Pierz.
Norbert was born May 7, 1923, in Greenwald, MN, to the late Joseph and Anna (Petermeier) Wehlage. He grew up in the Greenwald area. As a young man he moved to San Diego, CA, for two years during the war and worked in aircraft manufacturing. He returned to Greenwald and attended business college in St. Cloud. Following his schooling he worked for various construction companies as a bookkeeper. He owned and operated what is presently “Tootsie’s” bar in Genola. He was united in marriage to Georgina “Jean” M. Rauch on June 6, 1951, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Pierz. Follow-ing their marriage, Norb and Jean operated the bar in Genola for 15 years. He drove school bus and worked also as a special deputy for the Morrison County Sheriff’s Department until 1992. He continued and presently drove bus and worked as an accountant and tax preparer. He enjoyed deer hunting, duck hunting, fishing and playing cards. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and was a 50-year member of the Catholic Aid Society.
Survivors include his wife, Georgina “Jean”; son and daughters, Michael Wehlage of Aurora, MN, Diane Johnson and husband Harold of Bloomington, MN, and Ann Litke and husband Charles of Maple Grove, MN; sister, Selma Tschida of Meire Grove, MN; brother, Edmund Wehlage and wife Dolores of Greenwald and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Henry Wehlage.
Casketbearers were Dan Jensen, Dave Meyer, John Wehlage, Myron Reiman, James Wehlage, Robert Wehlage, Richard Rademacher and Ronald Storkamp.
Fannie Hay
Fannie G. Hay, age 85, a resident of Little Falls, MN, died October 2, 1997, at St. Gabriel’s Hospital in Little Falls.
Funeral services were held October 6, 1997, at the First United Church in Little Falls with the Rev. John Longley officiating. Burial was in Oakland Cemetery in Little Falls.
Fannie was born November 25, 1911, in Colman, Moody County, SD, to the late Cheever A. and Elizabeth A. (Gordon) Spear. She grew up in Colman attending school there and graduating from the class of 1929. She was united in marriage to Merle Cubbison in 1932. On December 6, 1941, she was united in marriage to George W. Hay in Pipestone, MN. Following their marriage the couple farmed in the Swanville, MN, area until 1972. Fannie also worked at Larson Boats in Little Falls. On December 8, 1981, her husband George died. She was a member of First United Church in Little Falls, Variety Garden Club, was a longtime volunteer at St. Otto’s Care Center in Little Falls and she enjoyed her garden and flowers of any kind.
Survivors include her daughter, Edythe Lindgren and husband Arthur of Little Falls; stepsons, George Hay and wife Ellen of Panama Beach, FL, and Robert Hay and wife Velda of Dadeville, AL; three grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren, nine step-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; sisters, Bell Thoreson, May Hively and Edith Barber; brother, John Spear; grandson, Kevin Lindgren and stepson, Richard Hay.
Honorary pallbearers were members of the Little Falls Variety Garden Club and casketbearers were Keith Lindgren, Sherman Bloom, Tony Armagost, Bertil, Bradley and Craig Johnson.
Larry Lyon
Larry Lyon, age 60, a resident of Prescott Valley, AZ, died September 30, 1997, near Prescott Valley.
Funeral services were held October 4 at the Prescott Community Church.
Larry was born February 6, 1937, in Grey Eagle Township, Todd County, MN, to Louise and the late Ivan Lyon.
Survivors include his mother, Louise; wife, Lois, who he married in 1970; three sons, Larry, Jr., Brett and Todd; two daughters, Tammy Gurtner and Candy Lyon; three grandchildren; one brother, Paul and one sister, Rhea Jean Holmgren.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ivan; two sisters, Zola Lyon and Roma Rosenow and two brothers, Kevin and Ira.
Ella Blood
Ella M. Blood, age 99, a resident of Carlton, MN, formerly of Pillsbury, MN, died October 3, 1997, at Carlton Nursing Home.
Funeral services were held October 6 at the Swanville Bible Church in Swanville, MN, with Pastor Timothy Sumner officiating. Interment was in Bearhead Cemetery at Pillsbury.
Ella was born May 7, 1898, in Burnhamville Township, Todd County, MN, to the late Frank and Flora Kruetzer. She grew up in the Burtrum area and attended school there. Her family moved to Swanville for a few years before settling in Pillsbury. She was united in marriage to William J.C. Blood in 1917. The couple made their home in Pillsbury where Ella was a homemaker. William died in June, 1976, and Ella continued living in Pillsbury until she moved to Cloquet, MN, in 1991 to live with her daughter-in-law, Rose Blood. She entered Carlton Nursing Home in 1994 where she resided until her death. Ella loved gardening and is remembered by her family for saving everything.
Survivors include her daughter-in-law, Rose Blood of Cloquet, MN; grandchildren, LaVonne Robbinson of Belleview, FL, Ronald H. Blood of Billings, MT, and Debra Utech of Hinckley, MN; seven great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William; son, Harold J. Blood; infant daughter, Verna Mae Blood; parents; brothers, Harold, Ed and Frank Kruetzer and sisters, Stella Wilmot and Mamie Barber.
Mabel DeVriendt
Mabel DeVriendt, age 88, a resident of Royalton, MN, died October 8, 1997 at the Lutheran Senior Citizens’ Home in Little Falls, MN.
Funeral services were held October 11, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Royalton, with Pastor John Ramsbacher officiating. Burial was in the Riverside Cemetery in Royalton.
Mabel was born April 9, 1909 in Austin, MN to the late Victor and Ella (Rafoth) Nelson. She was united in marriage with Carl Tverberg in January of 1930. Carl died in 1941. She was united in marriage with Edward DeVriendt on July 9, 1942. Edward died August 20, 1983. Mabel resided in Royalton from 1949 until 1979 when she moved to Little Falls. Her hobbies consisted of crocheting, cooking, gardening, reading, and dancing. She loved visiting with her family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include her sons, Lavern Tverberg and wife Corneal of Stacy, MN, Wayne DeVriendt and wife Betty of Sauk Centre, MN, Larry DeVriendt and wife Connie of Royalton; a daughter, Diane Sufka and husband Robert of Royalton; 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; one son, Glenn; one grandson, Rick; one brother; and one sister.
Honorary casketbearers were Paul Tverberg and Brad Sufka.
Casketbearers were Randy, Mark, Dale and Dean DeVriendt, Vernon and Vance Tverberg.
Casimer Piasecki
Casimer A. Piasecki, age 88, a resident of Little Falls, MN, formerly of Harding, MN, died October 8, 1997, at the Lutheran Senior Citizens Home in Little Falls.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Casimer was held October 11 at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Harding.
Casimer was born November 21, 1909, in Poland to Walter and Josephine (Novak) Piasecki. His family moved to the United States in 1911. Casimer attended school in Sauk Rapids. After his schooling, he moved to the Harding area where he then married Lucille Pularski on June 5, 1935, at Holy Cross Catholic Church. He farmed in the Harding area until 1975 when he retired. He also was a supervisor for the Pularski township for many years. Casimer became a resident of the Lutheran Senior Citizens Home in Little Falls in 1989. He enjoyed fanning, fishing, playing cards and wood working, Most of all he enjoyed spending time loving his grandchildren and telling them stories.
Survivors include his daughters, Loretta Hansen - Rudie of Little Falls, Bernice Huver of Pierz, MN, and Doris Paul of Kooskia, ID; brothers, Stanley Piasecki of Pine Center, MN, and Leo Piasecki of Center City, MN; sisters, Stephanie Shubert of Pierz and Helen Szlogowski of New Brighton, MN; 17 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandsons.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Richard Piasecki; brothers, Walter and Julius Piasecki; sister, Francis Waytashek; four grandchildren and one great fishing buddy, Harold “Shorty” Jorgenson.
Casimer will be remembered for his wonderful spirit and will for life. His family will never forget his strong and willing heart.
Pallbearers were Dan Waytashek, Tom Gerwing, Mike Waytashek, Janey Gerwing, Gary Piasecki, Mark Piasecki, Thomas Phelps and Mark Kuchinski.
Isadore Smieja
Isadore Smieja, age 89, a resident of Royalton, MN, died September 2, 1997, at St. Otto’s Care Center in Little Falls, MN.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held September 6, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Royalton with Father Laurn Virnig officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery.
Isadore was born April 4, 1908, in Independence, WI, to the late Peter P. and Mary Smieja. He farmed all his life prior to retiring in 1974. His hobbies consisted of carpenter work, making small wood objects, fishing and hunting. He was a member of Holy Trinity Church.
Survivors include two sisters, Mary Schlichting of Royalton and Kathryn Zehnle of Sartell, MN, along with many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Clarence, Alois and Clifford and one sister, Martha Kasella.
