Arthur Boser
Arthur N. Boser, age 67, a resident of Sartell, MN, formerly of Buckman, MN, died at his home September 1, 1997.
Funeral services were held September 4 at the Country Manor Chapel in Sartell with the Rev. Kenneth Brenny and Chaplain Ken Bates officiating. Entombment was in Hilltop Mausoleum, Sauk Rapids, MN.

Art was born April 14, 1930, in Harding, MN, to Henry and Johanna (Servaty) Boser. He married Luella R. Waytashek on June 5, 1952, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Pierz, MN. He farmed in Buckman until moving to Sartell in 1995. He was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Buckman.

Survivors include daughters, Judy Anderson and husband Wayne of Rice, MN, and Vi Ann Storkamp and husband Bob of Avon, MN; son, Gordon and wife Rose Ann Boser of Buckman; daughter-in-law, Joy Boser of Rice; sisters and brothers, Bernadine Hayes, Victor and Lucille Boser and Harold and Claudette Boser of Little Falls; Caroline and Donald Waytashek and Betty and Gene Erkens of Pierz; Dorothy Keehr and Celia and Sy Stellmach of Sauk Rapids; Elli and Leander Gall of Plymouth, MN; sister-in-law, Lylia Boser of New Brighton, MN; 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Luella on July 18, 1997; son, Greg; brother, Arnold Boser and grandson, Bradley Anderson.

Casketbearers were Bob, Jim and Tom Boser, Stephen and Michael Anderson and Kyle Storkamp.

Jean Johnson
Jean Johnson, age 91, formerly of Royalton, MN, died August 30, 1997, at St. Mary’s Villa in Pierz, MN.
Funeral services were held September 1 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Royalton with Pastor John Ramsbacher officiating. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery in Royalton.

Jean was born February 21, 1906, in Floodwood, MN, to Henry and Ida (Smith) Tabell. She graduated from St. Louis County grade school 112 and Duluth Central High School. Following high school, she attended Young & Hursth Business College in Duluth. She married Peter C. Johnson on April 23, 1937, in Duluth, MN. She resided in Duluth until 1955 when she joined her husband in Royalton where they published the Royalton Banner weekly newspaper which they owned and operated until September 1, 1970. Prior to moving to Royalton, Jean worked with the Duluth Chapter of the American Red Cross office as Director of Home Services for 25 years. Jean was a former member of the Royalton Woman’s Study Club, Royalton Senior Citizens Club and was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.

Survivors include sisters, Mrs. Syma Salo of Norcross, GA, Mrs. Hulda Leibrock of Las Vegas, NV, and Mrs. Joseph (Helen) Vilis of Charlotte, NC.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Peter on April 1, 1975; four brothers and one sister.

Casketbearers were friends of Jean.

Gordon Lommen
Gordon “Gordie” Olaf Lommen, age 69, a resident of Little Falls, MN, died September 2, 1997, at his home in Little Falls.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held September 5 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Little Falls with the Rev. Nick Landsberger and Rev. Harold J. Kost con-celebrating. Burial was in the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery north of Little Falls. Military rites were conducted by Little Falls American Legion Post 46.

Gordon was born May 2, 1928, in Nelson, Douglas County, MN, to the late Olaf B. and Ella (Peterson) Lommen. He attended and graduated from Alexandria High School, Class of 1946. He joined the United States Marine Corps on September 26, 1946, and received an honorable discharge on September 17, 1948. His military years served him as a corporal and rifle expert. In 1948, following his military career, he wanted to be an architectural and mechanical draftsman. He attended Brown Institute in Minneapolis for Radio Engineering. His radio career was precipitated by a radio station that started in his hometown of Alexandria. Completing his training at Brown Institute he went to work for KOBK Radio in Owatonna, MN, which was, at that time, sister station of KLTF in Little Falls. Three months later Gordie was transferred to KLTF. It was May 5, 1951, when he took over the morning shift Chief Engineer on KLTF, and remained with KLTF, and was KLTF’s radio voice of Central Minnesota for 37 years, until his retirement in 1988. He was united in marriage to Lois A. Fleming on February 14, 1953, in Breckenridge, MN. Gordie was named with Harriet Turner as “Minnesota Broadcasters with Personality” by Governor Wendell Anderson’s Proclamation of December 23, 1976, of “Gordie Lommen and Harriet Turner Day in Minnesota.” He will be remembered for his professional broadcasting, his humor, the presentation of his Christmas corner program and for the partyline program. He was involved in many civic organizations, which included the Little Falls Jaycees, Exchange Club, Boy Scouts and the old Rec. “Center.” He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Little Falls and served as a lector, Little Falls American Legion Post 46, served on the Little Falls Loan Association, Teen Board, Minnesota Heart Association, United Fund, taught “55 and Alive” for several years, volunteered at St. Gabriel’s Hospital, served as M.C. for everything from creamery meetings to Queen Pageants. He was an avid golfer, enjoyed fishing and helped all of his children with carpentry projects from building dressers to work in their homes. Survivors include wife, Lois; son, Michael and wife Renee of Alexandria; daughters, Jon Marie Lommen and husband James Nordstrom of Wabasha, MN, Patti Harrison and husband Jim of Rice, MN, and Mary Fregin and husband Doug of Trempealeau, WI; sister, Dorothy Dyke of Alexandria; mother-in-law, Regina Fleming of Little Falls and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Honorary pallbearers were Gene Pappenfus, Jim Anderson, Dick Schultz, Harold Lutz, Tim Truman and Lenny Braun. Casketbearers were Jack Peck, Bob Davis, Sumner Sabean, Herbert Turner, Gary Block and Jack Lemme. Memorials are preferred to the Heart Association.

Cheryl Hartman
Cheryl Leann Hartman, age 43, a resident of Brainerd, MN, died September 7, 1997.
Funeral services were held September 10 at First Lutheran Church in Brainerd with Reverend Mark Anderson officiating. Burial was in Fort Ripley Cemetery.

Cheryl was born February 10, 1954, in Brainerd to Albert and Bernice (Sullivan) Hartman. She worked at St. Joseph’s Medical Center in the Human Resources Department. She was a member of First Lutheran Church.

Survivors include three children, Brandon, Deon and Amy Hartman; three grandchildren, Jordan, Jessie and Alexis Hartman; parents, Albert and Bernice Hartman of Fort Ripley, MN; brothers and sisters, Keith Hartman of Hudson, WI, Donna Jorgensen of Buffalo, MN, Duane Hartman of Fort Ripley, MN, Robert Hartman of Crosslake, MN, and Cindy Sayre of Washington.

She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Angela.

Estelle Conley
Estelle Conley, age 77, a resident of Alverna Apartments in Little Falls, MN formerly of St. Paul, MN died September 6, 1997, at the Lutheran Senior Citizens Home in Little Falls.
A memorial service was held on Sunday, September 14, 1997, at Alverna Apartments for immediate family and friends. Burial will be at the Fort Snelling Cemetery at a later date.

Estelle was born October 14, 1919, in St. Paul, MN to the late William and Grace (McLeod) Blackman.

Survivors include a brother, William J. Blackman; daughter, Sandy Sandstrom; sons, Dean Larsen and Lloyd Conley; grandchildren, Jim, Tom and Susan Schilling, Mike and Bob Larsen; four great-grandchildren and one on the way; several other relatives and friends.

Eugene Schmidt
Eugene Schmidt, age 66, a resident of Randall, MN, died September 5, 1997, at the Lutheran Senior Citizens Home in Little Falls, MN.
Funeral services were September 8 at St. James Church in Randall with Fr. Al Quade officiating. Burial was in the St. James Cemetery. Military rites were conducted by VFW Post #9073 of Randall.

Eugene Schmidt was born on November 18, 1930, in Randall, son of the late Joseph and Helen (Simons) Schmidt. He entered the Army Guard, then was activated during the Korean Conflict. He was united in marriage to Lucille Karpinski on November 26, 1951, in Little Falls. He worked at Crestliner and road construction then was custodian for the Dr. S.G. Knight Elementary School in Randall for 20 years. He was a member of St. James Church of Randall and VFW Post 9073 of Randall. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, automobiles and visiting with people.

Survivors include his wife, Lucille; six daughters, Diane (Jeff) Johnson of Park Rapids, MN, Barb (Terry) Fisher of Hibbing, MN, Judy Schmidt of Little Falls, Sue (Dale) Strack of Randall, Annette (Bruce) Crosby of Sauk Rapids, MN, Lisa (Rich) Shaw of St. Stephen, MN; six sons, Arthur Schmidt of Ogden, UT, Marvin Schmidt of Hibbing, Arnold (Patricia) Schmidt of Sauk Rapids, Lawrence (Gabrielle) Schmidt of Browerville, MN, Robert Schmidt of Randall, Eugene “Mark” (Mechelle) Schmidt of Chippewa Falls, WI; five sisters, Joann Wippler of Little Falls, Margaret Jorgensen of Minnetonka, MN, Helen “Babe” Andres of Pierz, MN, Mary Donnelly of Lakeville, MN, Bernadine Schmidt of Richfield, MN; one brother, William Schmidt of Motley; 19 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant brother, James; and, two granddaughters.

Casketbearers were his nephews, Jim Schmidt, Gerry Schmidt, Dennis Schmidt, Joe Schmidt, Willie Schmidt, Justin Schmidt and Chuck Schmidt.

Lawrence Juenemann
Mr. Lawrence L. “Larry” Juenemann, age 55, of Staples, Mn, and formerly of St. Cloud, MN, died on September 5, 1997, at the Minneapolis Veteran’s Administration Medical Center in Minneapolis, MN.
Funeral services were held September 9 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in St. Cloud, MN, with Rev. Virgil Helmin officiating. Burial was in the Minnesota Veterans Cemetery in Little Falls.

Lawrence, son of Herman and Margaret (Yaeger) Juenemann of St. Cloud, was born December 13, 1941, in Minneapolis. He lived in St. Cloud for over 30 years where he was employed as a printer for the St. Cloud Times. He has been a resident of the Motley-Staples area for the past 22 years. He served in the US Army from 1962-1965. He was a member of Motley American Legion Post 124.

Survivors include his parents; brothers and sisters, Doris Markfort, St. Cloud; Tom, St. Cloud; Nancy Sampsell, Garrison, ND; and Bill, Albany, NY.

Pallbearers were members of his family.

George H. Lahr
George H. Lahr, age 60, a resident of Rice, MN, died September 5, 1997, at his home.
Memorial services were held at Assembly of God Church in Little Falls with Rev. Keith Thompson officiating.

George was born July 3, 1937, in Le Sauk Township (Benton County) to Mike and Agnes (Witzman) Lahr. He married Jackie Wheece on April 18, 1958, in Milbank, S.D. He farmed and also owned and operated a concrete business, G.H. Lahr, Inc. He did missionary work in Mexico occasionally over a five-year period, he started the Food Shelf in the Rice area, and raised deer. He attended Assembly of God Church in Little Falls, was president of Anchored In Jesus Ministry in Rice, and was in the National Guard for seven years.

Survivors include his wife Jackie of Rice. He is father and father-in-law to, Joseph and Marla Lahr of St. Cloud, MN Patrick Lawrence and Debra Lahr of Rice, Bonnie and Pastor Bruce Winkelman of Evanston, WY, Terry and Ronald Harren of Luxemburg and Ashley and Joseph Roering of Opole.

He is also survived by his mother, Agnes Lahr of St. Cloud; sisters and brothers, Agnes Rothstein, Joanne Schefers, Lawrence Lahr, Eugene Lahr, Leo Lahr, and Doris Schefers of St. Cloud, Delphine Erkins of Greenville, SC, Michael Lahr of Sartell, Kenneth Lahr of Sauk Rapids, MN; nine grandchildren, Johnathon, Nathan, Daniel, and David Lahr, Brian, Becky, and Elizabeth Winkelman, Kaitlyn Harren, and Amanda Steckling.

He was preceded in death by his father, granddaughter, Kristie Rose Harren and sister, Evelyn Asmus.
