Melvin Cross
Melvin Cross, age 84, a resident of Winnebago, MN, died January 16, 1998, in Mesa, AZ. He lived in the Little Falls and Pierz areas for more than 40 years.

Memorial services are pending.

Survivors include daughters, Kathy (Leon) Freeman of New Blaine, AR, and Bonnie (James) Haberle of Rogers, MN; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and special friend Mary Carson.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Leola.

Terrence Aleshire

Memorial services were held in St. Cloud, MN, March 31, 1998, for Terrence D. Aleshire, a resident of Blairsville, GA.

Terrence was the son of Milo and Cecile (Gaboury) Aleshire of St. Cloud. He grew up in Little Falls and later moved to St. Cloud and Blairsville, GA. Terry was a retired U.S. Army staff sergeant and a veteran of the Vietnam war.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara; his mother, Cecile; sons, Staff Sergeant Terry of Korea and Arthur of Indianapolis; daughter, Linda of Michigan; three brothers, Dwight of Willmar, MN, Keith of Plymouth, MN, and Arlyn of Dallas, TX; and sisters, Dariel O’Hara of St. Cloud, Candace Reid of St. Cloud and Cheryl Shafer of Alexandria, MN.

He was preceded in death by his father and one sister.

Dorothy Trepanier
Dorothy Trepanier, age 85, a resident of Watertown, MN, formerly of Pierz, MN, died June 29, 1998, at Elim Nursing Home in Watertown.

Funeral services were held July 2 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Little Falls, MN, with Father Nick Landsberger officiating. Burial will be in the Harlingen, TX, next to her husband.

Dorothy was born in Hugo, MN, on October 19, 1912, to Michael and Elizabeth (Thein) Steiner. She was united in marriage with Arthur Trepanier on June 20, 1938, in Northwood, IA.

Survivors include two daughters, Elizabeth Trepanier of Watertown, and Renee Trepanier and husband Steve Tschida of Little Falls; step-son, Arthur Trepanier, Jr., and wife LaVonne of Casper, WY; sister, Bette Turner of West St. Paul; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Arthur; sons, James and Ronald; brother, Michael Steiner; sisters, Louise Carlson, Anne DeLonais, Nell Holmes and Catherine Steiner; and a grandson, Steven Trepanier.

Casketbearers were Nolan, David, and Art Trepanier, Jr., Gabe and Steve Tschida, and Ted Holmes.

John E. Burski

John E. Burski, age 66, a resident of Rice, MN, died June 29, 1998, at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Home in Sauk Rapids, MN.

Services were held July 2 at Shepherd of the Pines Lutheran Church in Rice. Rev. Aaron Asmus officiated. Burial, with full military honors provided by the Rice American Legion Post #473, was in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Sauk Rapids.

John E. Burski was born October 31, 1931, in Sauk Rapids, MN, to John Henry and Doris (Wittstock) Burski. He served his country in the United States Army from 1952-1954. He married Joann Poganski on February 4, 1956, in Trinity Lutheran Church in Sauk Rapids. He lived most of his life in the Sauk Rapids/Rice area. He worked as a heavy equipment operator for Cecil’s Construction and later for Landwehr Heavy Moving, retiring in 1994. He was a member of Shepherd of the Pines Lutheran Church in Rice, Rice Senior Citizens, where he served as president, and the Rice American Legion Post #473.

Survivors include his wife, Joann of Rice; children and their spouses, John R. Burski of St. Cloud, Janna and Gary Skroch of Rice, Jeanne and Barry Anderson of St. Cloud, James and Aimee Burski of Hoffman, and Joel and Sandra Burski of Rice; brothers, Ralph Burski of Rice and Dennis Burski of Sauk Rapids; and ten grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two infant brothers, Ronald and Donald; two granddaughters, Katie Skroch and Teresa Anderson.

Ava Burgwald
Ava D. Burgwald, age 85, a resident of Brainerd, MN, died June 30, 1998, at the St. Cloud Hospital.

Funeral services were held July 3 at Brainerd’s Bethel Lutheran Church with Pastors Bob Twiton and LeRoy Nevin officiating. Burial was in Bethel Cemetery.

Ava was born November 8, 1912, in Meade County, SD, to Frank and Cora (Purdy) McClintock. She was a lifetime area resident and a member of Bethel Lutheran Church.

Survivors include two sons, Billy Burgwald of Brainerd and Dennis Johnson of Colorado; one stepson, Robert Burgwald and wife Barb of Brainerd; one daughter, Judy Meyer and husband Gary of Blaine, MN; one stepdaughter, Ruth Ann Stearns and husband Harold of Brainerd; 14 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one sister, Eva Cox of Limon, CO; and one brother, Bob McClintock of Rockford, IL.

She was preceded in death by her husband William, three brothers and one sister.

Neil Gammon

Neil “Bud” Gammon, age 75, a resident of Little Falls, MN, died June 7, 1998, at St. Gabriel’s Hospital in Little Falls.

Funeral services were held June 9 at the First United Church in Little Falls with Pastor Mary Kay Sauter officiating. Burial was at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN. Military rites were given by the VFW Post 1112.

Neil was born August 21, 1922, in Keota, IA, to Neil and Pearl (Ramge) Gammon. He graduated from high school in Iowa, and then was united in marriage to Neva (Spray) Gammon on June 22, 1947 in Kimball, MN. In 1948 they moved to Little Falls and he was employed at Minnesota Power & Light, retiring in 1981. Neil served in World War II in North Africa as a flight mechanic working on the B-25s. He enjoyed horses, motorcycling, traveling and watching softball.

Survivors include his son, Craig A. Gammon of Enumclaw, WA; daughters, Hollyce Gammon of Robbinsdale, MN, and Tracy Gammon Vogt of Baxter, MN; two brothers, Howard Gammon of Houston, TX, and Lyman Gammon of Columbia, TN; sister, Phyllis Gammon Selser of West Burlington, IA, and seven grandchildren, Jason, Trista, Adam, Melanie, Benjamin, Stephanie and Travis.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Neva.

Susan Holley

Susan Holley, age 85, a resident of Little Falls, MN, died June 6, 1998, at St. Gabriel’s Hospital in Little Falls.

Funeral services were held June 9 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Little Falls with Fr. Nick Landsberger officiating. Burial was at St. Mary’s parish cemetery.

Susan was born Mary 22, 1913, in Edgeley, ND, to the late Peter and Mathilda (Picary) Lammer. The family moved to the Little Falls area where she was raised. She was united in marriage to Caroll “Chub” Holley. They had a lake place where they enjoyed fishing and the outdoors. She also enjoyed bowling and the companionship of her pets. She was also a loving aunt. She was a resident of Lutheran Care Center for a year and a half.

Survivors include nephews, Bill Lammer of St. Cloud, MN, Fred Lammer of Nome, AK, and Frank Smith of Brainerd, MN; nieces, Margie Kuether of Faribault, MN, Judy Fisher of Andover, MN, Donna Posick of Tacoma, WA, Ida Jorgenson of Little Falls and Alice Ditch of International Falls, MN, and sister-in-law, Rachel Lammer of Little Falls.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Leo, Joe and Pete Lammer; sister, Lucy Smith; nieces, Dolly Swanson and Susan Smith and nephews, Bennie Smith and Bob Lammer.

Casketbearers were Ann Hassing, Pam Omen, Julie Pepin, Don Pepin and Aaron Barta.

Ursula Fuecker
Ursala C. “Sue” Fuecker, age 82, formerly of St. Cloud, MN, and Randall, MN, died June 7, 1998, in Denver, CO.

Services were private.

Sue was born on March 17, 1916, in Cold Spring, MN, to John and Katherine (Nierenhausen) Maus. She married Clark Fuecker on January 9, 1936, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Cold Spring. She lived and was employed as a waitress in St. Cloud until moving to Denver in 1967.

Survivors include her children, Douglas Michaels and wife Sharon of St. Cloud, Mrs. Walter (Araloene) “Sis” Tody of Randall, Will Fuecker and wife Dottie of St. Cloud, Jack Stevens and wife Pat of St. Joseph, MN, Lon West and wife Gail of Denver and Mrs. LeRoy (Rolaine) Perea of Denver; 20 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1975 and one brother, Wilfred Maus.
