Jamie Pulak
Jamie “Chess” Pulak, age 22, a resident of Harding, MN, died June 7, 1998, as a result of a car accident south of Garrison, MN.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held June 10 at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Harding with Father Roger Thoennes officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery.

Jamie was born March 4, 1976, in Little Falls, MN, to James and Judy (Young) Pulak. He graduated from Pierz Healy High School in 1994. He worked at Polar Tank, Platte Lake Steel and Weiss Construction. He liked to fish, hunt, ride the 4-wheeler and spend time with his family and friends. He was a member of the Holy Cross Church in Harding.

Survivors include his parents, James and Judy Pulak of Harding; a brother, Michael of Harding; grandparents, Catherine Young and Helen and Ed Pulak, along with many aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Elmer “Boots” Young.

Honorary casketbearers were Jerry “Spud” Hayes, Denise Woitalla, Kelly Rudolph and Stacy Woitalla.

Casketbearers were Joe and Paul Pulak, Jimmy Barrett, Justin Young, Jason Fisher and Tom Schubert.

Edwin Winskowski, Jr.

Edwin Toney Winskowski, Jr., age 61, a resident of Little Falls, MN, died June 4, 1998, at Minnekwaska District Hospital.

Funeral services were held June 8 at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery with Father Harold Kost officiating. Burial followed the service. Military rites were provided by VFW Post 1112.

Edwin, Jr. was born on June 12, 1936, in Little Falls to Edwin, Sr. and Josephine (Wentland) Winskowski. He attended school in Little Falls, then enlisted in the U.S. Navy January 26, 1954. He was honorably discharged June 11, 1957. Following his discharge he worked for the railroad, Hennepin Paper Co. and as a carpenter. In recent years he moved to Starbuck, MN. He loved to fish and hunt.

Survivors include his mother, Josephine Winskowski of Little Falls; son, Todd Winskowski of Minneapolis, MN; two daughters, Wendy Torseth of Minneapolis and Paula Winskowski of Montreal, GA; brother, George Winskowski of Little Falls; four sisters, Loretta Marotte of Little Falls, Marge Barnes of Little Falls, Marian Johnson of Minneapolis and Janet Swenson of Little Falls and special friend, Sharon Larson of Starbuck.

He was preceded in death by infant daughters, Susan Winskow-ski and Kristy Winskowski, and his father, Edwin Winskowski, Sr.

Olivia Walters
Olivia Walters, age 80, a resident of Brainerd, MN, died at N.C. Little Memorial Hospice in Edina June 8, 1998.

Funeral services were June 12 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Rice. Burial was in the parish cemetery.

Olivia Walters was born March 25, 1918, in Benton County to Martin and Margaret (Binsfeld) Aschenbrenner. She lived in Rice from 1963 until 1973, when she moved to Brainerd. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Christopher Catholic Church in Nisswa.

She is mother and mother-in-law to, Shirley and Donald O’Loughlin of Shakopee, Sharon and Thomas Murphy of Pierz, and Yvonne and Glen Trisko of Sauk Rapids, MN; brothers and sisters, Ed Aschenbrenner and Stella Johnson of Rice, Elmer Aschenbrenner, Irene Goebel, and Margie Wunderlick of Rice, and Florence Hall of Silvis, IL; nine grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Leander Aschenbrenner; and sister, Alma Aschenbrenner.

Floyd Richmond

Floyd W. Richmond, age 83, a resident of Royalton, MN, died June 27, 1998, at his home.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held June 30 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Royalton, with Father Laurn Virnig officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery.

Floyd was born August 10, 1914, in Greenwood, WI, to the late William and Elsie (Shaw) Richmond. He was united in marriage to Hilda Wilson in Waukegan, IL, on December 12, 1936, and worked in Milwaukee, WI, before moving to a farm near Neillsville, WI. He farmed and ranched in Whitetail, MT, from the late 1940s before settling in Royalton in 1956. Floyd was a lifelong dairy farmer until he retired. He enjoyed playing cards and dominoes and visiting with his family.

Survivors include his sons, Floyd J. and wife Lynne of Little Falls, MN, and Kenneth and wife Eloise of Buena Vista, CO; daughters, Shirley Kuhlmey and husband Norman, Marie Peterick and husband Kenneth and Eva Richmond, all of Royalton; 18 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; brother, Robert of Janesville, WI; sister, Berdine Gretchmacher of Richmond, IN; half brother, Kenneth Gardner of Milwaukee; brothers-in-law, Louis Kretlow of Sussex, WI, Charles Wilson of Decatur, IL, and John Wilson of Buena Vista and sisters-in-law, Kate Drescher and Emma Wilson of Neillsville.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Hilda in 1991; sisters, Dorothy Kretlow and Fern Ackerman; half-sister Jean Whitehead; grandson, Doug Kuhlmey in 1979 and great-grandson, Jeremy John in 1985.

Casketbearers were Curtis Richmond, Russell Peterick, Richard Peterick, Robert Peterick, Randall Peterick, Scott Kuhlmey and Michael Tesch.

Louise Lashinski
Louise Lashinski, age 99, a resident of St. Benedict’s Center in St. Cloud, MN, a former resident of Sobieski, MN, died June 25, 1998, at the Center.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held June 27 at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Sobieski with Father Virgil Helmin officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery.

Louise was born December 2, 1898, in Swan River Township to John and Agatha Gwosdz. She was united in marriage to Albert Lashinski October 26, 1920, in Sobieski. They lived on the farm in Swan River Township until their retirement in 1957. They continued to live in Sobieski until 1983 and then moved to St. Benedict’s Center in St. Cloud. Her hobbies consisted of crocheting, making quilts, playing the harmonica and the Senior Choir at St. Benedict’s.

Survivors include her sons, Fred and wife Florence of St. Cloud, Dan and wife Fran of Rogers, MN, David and wife Leona of Avon, MN, Jerry and wife Jeanette of Anoka, MN, Eugene and wife Irene of Albany, MN, and Jim Lashinski of Denver, CO; daughters, Bernice Euteneuer and husband Victor of Holdingford, MN, Irene Oldakowski of Little Falls, MN, Helen Brezinka and husband Louie of Coon Rapids, MN, Jeanette Wippler and husband Don of Cushing, MN, and Diane Zylka and husband Larry of Menomonie, WI; brothers, Joe Gwost, George Gwost, David Gwost, all of Little Falls and Eddie Gwost of Detroit, MI; sisters, Mary Ciminski of Seattle, WA, Esther Stanek of Little Falls, Tillie Gardner of San Diego, CA, and Rose Ringwelski of Flint, MI; 60 grandchildren; 121 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Albert; one son, Ray; four brothers; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Casketbearers were Fred, David, Dan, Gene, Jerry and James Lashinski.

Honorary casketbearer was Don Wippler.

Frank Smuda
Frank Smuda, age 87, a resident of Little Falls, MN, died June 28, 1998, at his home in Little Falls.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held July 1 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church with Father Leroy Kremer officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery. American Legion Post #46 conducted military rites.

Frank was born April 2, 1911, in Little Falls to Peter and Tillie Smuda. He resided at his family’s farm in Pike Creek Township all of his life. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. After his discharge he went to work for the Hennepin Paper Co. in Little Falls where he worked for 32-1/2 years. After his retirement in 1976, he worked with his family running Smuda’s Zoo until 1990. In his younger years he enjoyed many hours of fishing. He especially looked forward to the time when he could put his ice house on Pike Creek to spear fish. He helped his late sister, Louise Smuda, raise their niece and nephew. He was also a life member of American Legion Post #46.

Survivors include his niece, Alvina; nephew, Bennedict and wife, Alice Smuda, and many other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Louise; brothers, Louie, Thomas and Joseph Smuda.

Casketbearers were John, Jerry and Wayne Smuda, Donald Zoren, James Palmquist and Richard Czech.

Mabel Sanders
Mabel V. Sanders, age 101, a resident of Little Falls, MN, and formerly of the Randall, MN, area passed away June 25, 1998, at St. Otto’s Care Center in Little Falls.

Funeral services for Mabel Sanders were held June 27 at the Randall Presbyterian Church in Randall with the Rev. Suzanne Cekalla officiating. Burial was in the Randall City Cemetery.

Mabel V. Sanders was born May 2, 1897, in Darling Township, Morrison County, MN, to the late Alfred and Eurica (Nystrom) Smith. She grew up in the Randall, Lincoln and Fort Ripley areas and attended country school. After her schooling, she worked at the American Hotel in Little Falls. Mabel was united in marriage to Paul William Sanders in July of 1916 in Randall. Together the couple made their home in Fort Ripley, later moving to Lincoln and finally to Randall where they farmed and owned and operated Sanders Trucking from 1928 until 1951 when Paul died. Mabel continued to live on the family farm near Randall until April of 1998 when she came a resident of St. Otto’s Care Center in Little Falls and resided there until her death. Mabel was a member of the Randall Presbyterian Church in Randall, the First English Lutheran Church in Clough Township, where she was baptized, life member of the Randall VFW Auxiliary, Randall Presbyterian Ladies Aid and Randall Senior Citizens. Mabel lived for her family, her home and enjoyed bingo, flowers, needlework, crocheting, playing cards, checkers, crossword puzzles and traveling.

Survivors include sons, Calvin C. Sanders and wife Dorothy of Randall, Ivan E. Sanders and wife Dorothy of Little Falls, Kenneth F. Sanders and wife Mary of Westmont, IL, and Eldon D. Sanders and wife Viola of Randall; daughters, Arlene M. Strack and husband John of Little Falls; Harriet J. Turner and husband Herb of Randall; 27 grandchildren, 64 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Paul on January 19, 1951; parents; sons, Paul W. and Robert L. Sanders; daughter, Joyce Kobliska; brothers, August, Albert, Ernest and Fred Smith; sisters, Bertha Smith, Byrd Fick and Amelia Johnson; half-sister, Ellen Salvhus and two grandsons, Michael Kobliska and David Strack.

Honorary pallbearers were John Strack, Kenneth Sanders, Eldon B. Sanders, Connie Kogler, Clayton Sanders and Sue Strack-Smith. Casketbearers were Emery Strack, Jerry Sanders, Larry Sanders, Dr. Kenneth Sanders, Jr., Steven Kobliska, Maureen Nelson and Jeff Turner.
