Albert Schindler

Albert “Bud” Schindler, age 81, a resident of Lake Shamineau, MN, died August 8, 1997, at the St. Cloud Hospital.

Funeral services were August 12 in the Faith Lutheran Church in Staples, MN with Reverend Stephen Sveom officiating. Burial was in the Scandia Valley Cemetery.

Albert Phillip Schindler was born on July 15, 1916, in Peoria, IL, son of the late Albert and Ellen (Stoker) Schindler. He graduated from Manual High School in Peoria. He was united in marriage to Lillian Tomford on August 6, 1937, in St. Charles, MO. Following their marriage they lived in Bartonville, IL, then moved to Richfield, MN, where they lived until their retirement. Following their retirement in 1977, they moved to Lake Shamineau. Albert was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Staples and VFW Post #9073 in Randall. He was very active in Senior Citizens Clubs in the Motley/Cushing/ Randall area. He served with the U.S. Army during WWII. Albert enjoyed a variety of outdoor activities, including hunting and fishing.

Survivors include a son, Doug (Kay) Schindler of Moorhead, MN; a daughter, Virginia (Jack) Bergerson of Bloomington, MN; four grandchildren, Kent and Jay Schindler, Steve Bergerson, and Karen McDonald; two great-grandchildren, Luke and Gannon McDonald; two brothers, Orville Schindler of Bartonville, IL, and Harold Schindler of Longmont, CO; two sisters, Berniece Hoogerwerf of Bartonville, IL, and Lois Jones of Peoria, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Lillian, in 1990. Casketbearers were Kent and Jay Schindler, Steve Bergerson, Liam McDonald, Bill Hoogerwerf and Hank Wahl.

Marion Brenny

Marion Brenny, age 94, a resident of Minneapolis, MN, died August 8, 1997, in Minneapolis.

Mass of Christian Burial was August 11, 1997, at the Basilica of St. Mary, Minneapolis, with Father Dale Korogi officiating. There were also services at St. Michael’s Church in Buckman, MN. Burial was at St. Michael’s Cemetery in Buckman.

Marion was born January 28, 1903, in Mayhew Lake, MN. She married Joseph Brenny at Annunciation Church in Mayhew Lake on June 13, 1922. Marion was a member of the Basilica of St. Mary for 30 years. She was a charter member of Care Guild and Omega Seniors, she was a long- time volunteer at nursing homes, was chairperson election judge, and was an active member of the D.F.L. and Eagles Auxiliary.

Survivors include daughters, Arleene Meyer, Audrey Glynn and husband Robert, Kathleen Baron and husband Henry; a son, Douglas and wife, Jeanne; a daughter-in-law, Donna Brenny; 20 grandchildren, and 32 great-grandchildren; six Glynn stepgrandchildren and families, four brothers and six sisters.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Joseph; and a son, Robert.

Casketbearers were Bruce, Bradley and Bill Baron, Bryan and Joseph Brenny, and Charles Meyer.

Caroline Guck

Caroline Guck, age 91, a resident of St. Mary’s Villa in Pierz, MN, passed away November 29, 1997, at the Villa.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held December 2 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pierz, with Father Ken Brenny officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery.

Caroline was born may 28, 1906, in St. Stephens, MN, to Michael and Anna (Lampert) Fielder. She grew up in St. Stephens as a farmer’s daughter. Caroline was united in marriage to Edward Guck on June 21, 1927, in St. Stephens. Following their marriage, the couple moved to Mayhew Lake where they farmed until 1945. After 1945, they farmed in Morrison County. She did domestic housekeeping for Dr. Stein and worked at the Pierz Cafe. Her hobbies consisted of quilting, crocheting and reading. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Church and of the Christian Mothers.

Survivors include sons, Daniel and wife Celine of Brainerd, MN, Lawrence and wife Marjory of Little Rock, MN, Melvin and wife Sandy of Fridley, MN; daughters, Rose Marie Johnson of Minnea-polis, MN, Genevieve Muehlbauer and husband Max of Little Rock, Lorraine Nerheim and husband George of Minneapolis, and Arlene Dutcher of Minneapolis; sisters, Alma Yamery of Waite Park, MN, and Marie Vouk of Rice, MN; 28 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Edward on November 2, 1968; one son, Raymond; two brothers and one sister; one grandson, Ronald Muehlbauer; two granddaughters, Tammy Guck and Carla Muehlbauer; one great-granddaughter, Kelsey Eden.

Casketbearers were Richard Johnson, Jr., Ray Guck, Jr., Dan Guck, Jr., James Guck, Dale Muehlbauer, George Nerheim, Jr., and Glenn Dutcher, Jr.

Leo Welle

Leo Welle, age 77, a resident of St. Mary’s Villa in Pierz, MN, died December 2, 1997, at the villa.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held December 5 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Lastrup, MN, with Father Roger Thoennes officiating. Burial was in the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Little Falls, MN.

Leo was born February 5, 1920, in Lastrup, to George and Martha (Wagner) Welle. He grew up and attended rural school near Lastrup. He served in the U.S. Army from March 2, 1942, until being honorably discharged on November 20, 1945. He was united in marriage with Loretta Tretter on January 19, 1948. Leo worked for various granite companies as a stonecutter for 30 years. He retired in 1982 and continued to reside in Lastrup. He was a member of the Pierz American Legion.

Survivors include his wife, Loretta of Pierz; sons, Clarence and wife Kim of Lastrup, Joseph and wife Pam of Royalton, MN, George and wife Marlys of Sauk Rapids, MN, Leo and wife Karen of Little Falls; daughters, Barbara Welle of St. Cloud, MN, Theresa Waytashek and husband Dennis of Sartell, MN, Rose Kowalzek and husband Adrian of Ham Lake, MN, Ella Kowalzek of Sauk Rapids; a brother, Alcuin Welle of Lastrup; a sister, Zita Poser of Pierz; 29 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Elizabeth Poser; and an infant brother, Ambrose.

Casketbearers were Kevin, Scott, Jon and Daniel Welle, Philip and Harlan Kowalzek, and Gary Waytashek.

Ann Boisvert
Ann Boisvert, age 83, a former resident of Elmdale, MN, died December 6, 1997, at the Long Prairie Hospital in Long Prairie, MN.
Mass of Christian burial was held December 9 at St. Edward’s Catholic Church in Elmdale with Father Todd Schneider officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery.

Ann was born November 7, 1914, in Royalton, MN, to the late Anton and Lena Fussy. She was united in marriage with Leo Boisvert on October 16, 1934, in Royalton. They lived in the Elmdale area most of their lives and Ann did catering for weddings.

Survivors include sons, Eugene and wife Peg of Long Prairie and Ives of Moundsview, MN; daughters, Shirley Gran of Osakis, MN, Delsie Hansen and husband Robert of Spring Lake Park, MN; sisters, Helen Kelzenberg of Richfield, MN, Agnes Smieja of Royalton, Josephine Walz of Royalton, Clara Lust of Buckman, MN, and Mary Welch of St. Cloud, MN; 14 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo; four brothers, Joe, John, Peter and Anton and a sister, Rose Smieja.

Casketbearers were Brad Brezinka, Mark Hansen, Dennis Boisvert, Joe Boisvert, Jerry Skiem and Todd Lewis.

Alyssa Fuller

Alyssa M. Fuller, four-month old resident of Alexandria, MN, died December 5, 1997, at the Fairview University Medical Center in Minneapolis, MN.

Funeral services were held December 8 at the Shelley Funeral Chapel in Little Falls with Rev. Keith Thompson officiating. Burial was in the Oakland Cemetery in Little Falls.

Alyssa was born July 16, 1997, in Alexandria to Tony Fuller and Laurie Skog.

Survivors include her father, Tony Fuller of Alexandria; mother, Laurie Skog of Alexandria; grandparents, Gary and Pat Letourneau of Cushing, MN, and Joan Skog of Miltona, MN, aunts, uncles, niece and nephews.

Roman Zwak

Roman Zwak, a resident of Albany, MN, formerly of Opole, MN, died December 7, 1997, at Mother of Mercy Nursing Home in Albany.

Services were held December 12 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Opole. Burial was in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Opole.

Roman was born in Opole to Peter and Frances (Gamroth) Zwak. He married Sophie Patrias on August 12, 1941, in St. Wendel, MN. He was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Opole. He was a county assessor for 15 years and a 25-year school board member in Opole. He prepared income tax returns, was a taxidermist and worked for Fingerhut for eight years.

Survivors include his wife, Sophie; daughters, Audrey Lange of Holdingford, MN, and Linda of St. Anna, MN; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Frank and Bro. Ed Zwak OSB and three sisters, Helen, Mary and Mathila Skwira.

Dorothy Bednar
Dorothy Joan Bednar, age 64, a resident of Brainerd, MN, died December 4, 1997, at her home.

Mass of Christian burial was held December 8 at St. Francis Catholic Church in Brainerd with Father Roland Antus officiating. Burial was in South Long Lake Cemetery.

Dorothy was born June 30, 1933, in Portland, OR, to Helmer and Violet (Brakage) Haller. She married Jerome E. Bednar May 6, 1950, in Brainerd. They lived in Shoreview and Becker before moving back to Brainerd in 1987. She enjoyed creating porcelain dolls. She taught classes on doll making in the Brainerd Lakes area and operated Dorothy’s Legend-ary Dolls for many years.

Survivors include her husband, Jerome; seven sons, Jeff Bednar of Brainerd, Gary Bednar of Blaine, MN, Roman Bednar of Brainerd, Brent Bednar of Brainerd, David Bednar of Brainerd, Steven Bednar of Maple Grove, MN, and Anthony Bednar of Brainerd; two daughters, Lori Olson of Zimmerman, MN, and Kimberly Hanson of Zimmerman; 14 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and a sister, Naida Brown of Florida.
