Ivan Browen

Ivan W. Browen, age 64, a resident of Burtrum, MN, died October 29, 1997, at the Long Prairie Memorial Nursing Home.

Funeral services were held November 1 at the First Baptist Church, Long Prairie, MN, with Rev. Nick Bell officiating. Burial was at the Evergreen Cemetery, Long Prairie.

Ivan was born February 11, 1933, in Cottonwood, SD, to Isaac and Jennie (Meinerts) Browen. He married Donna Donovan on September 26, 1951, in Yankton, SD. He moved to Long Prairie in 1953 where he worked for Garmen Construction and Smith Construction, Long Prairie Dray Line and Prairie Packing. He also farmed in Burnhamville Township, Burtrum. He also drove truck for Fingerhut Manufacturing, St. Cloud. He moved to Superior, WI, in 1973 where he owned and operated Dewey Store and also drove truck for Amsoil and Halvor Lines of Superior. He moved to Burtrum in 1989, residing in Burnhamville Township, and drove truck for Jerry Hammond of Cohasset, MN, until his death. He enjoyed basketball and music. He was a member of the First Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Donna; seven children and their spouses, Audrey Brown of Long Prairie, Raelene Minkel and husband Myron of St. Cloud, MN, Paula Kiminski and husband Leroy of Superior, Marilyn Feela and husband Mark of Melrose, MN, Terry Browen and wife Chris of Grey Eagle, MN, Rick Browen and wife Monica of Superior, and Jon Browen and friend Laurie of Burtrum; one daughter-in-law, Mary Browen of Morris, MN; three brothers, Ralph Browen of Long Prairie, Elery Browen and wife Sonia of Long Prairie and Lance Browen and wife Audrye of Gillette, WY; four sisters, Dorothy Dirks and husband Bernard of George, IA, Mavis Bell and husband Dick of Gillette, Iona Gerlach and husband Gerald of Gillette, WY, and Charlene Kuehne and husband Jim of Worthington, MN; one sister-in-law, Margaret Browen of Worthington; 28 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Issac and Jennie; one son, Donald; two brothers, infant Clifford and Dale and two sisters, Marcella Klinkenberg and infant Neotha.

Casketbearers were Terry and Jon Browen, Myron and Raelene Minkel and Mark and Marilyn Feela.

Diane Tuholsky

Diane M. Tuholsky, 45, of St. Paul, MN, died suddenly on October 24, 1997.

A Memorial Mass was held October 29 at Kessler-Maguire Funeral Home with interment in Acacia Park Cemetery.

She was born June 26, 1952 in Little Falls, MN. Diane loved nature, and Native-American history and artifacts. He favorite hobby was bingo.

Survivors include two brothers and six sisters, Irene Boser and husband Elmer, Donald Tuholski and wife Roseanne, Betty Rohrenbach, Deloris Booth and husband Jerry, Josie Metzdorf, Joe Tuholsky and wife Delli, and twin sister, Deb Tuholsky; many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her mother Mathilda; a brother, Gerald; and nephew Daniel.

Marvin Altmann

Marvin Altmann, age 86, a resident of Klossner, MN, died October 24, 1997, at the New Ulm Medical Center in New Ulm, MN.

Mass of Christian Burial was October 28 at the St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church in Lafayette, with burial in the church cemetery.

Marvin was born August 28, 1911, in Lafayette Township, Nicollet County to Lewis and Louise (Woratschka) Altmann. He married Helen M. Reitter on November 16, 1936, at the St. George Catholic Church in St. George, MN. After marriage they farmed in Lafayette Township, Nicollet County until 1958 when they moved to Klossner. He owned and operated the Klossner Ballroom from 1960-1969. He also worked at the Burdick Grain Elevator in New Ulm until retiring in 1976. He was a member of the St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church in Lafayette.

Survivors include his daughters and sons in law, Shirley and Bill Krohn of Lafayette, Bonnie and Wally Bastian of Klossner, Margaret and Tom Albrecht of Pierz, MN, Sharon Madsen of LaCrescent, MN, Helen and Tom Fromm of Waukesha, WI; Lois and Bob Schneider of Reeseville, WI; and Norma Altmann Bergseth and Del Borgseth of Detroit Lakes, MN; son, Howard Altmann of Klossner; 21 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sisters and brother-in-law, Delores and Charles Kranz of Minneapolis, MN, Bernice Fletcher of Roseville. He was preceded in death by his wife Helen Altmann on September 23, 1992; a daughter, Joanne Imker on January 2, 1990; a son in law Bob Madsen on January 8, 1996; a brother, Leander Altmann; and sisters, Viola Gleisner and Carol Farrell.

Ralph Willman

Ralph Linden Willman died on October 24, 1997, at the Mille Lacs Nursing Home in Onamia, MN, at the age of 88.

Funeral services were held October 27 at the Lakeview Community Church in Hillman, MN, with Rev. David Gouldin officiating. Burial was at the Church Cemetery.

Ralph Linden Willman was born on March 20, 1909, to Hans and Bessie (Swedeen) Willman in Cambridge, MN. He grew up and attended school in rural Cambridge and stayed on the home place to farm. He married Lenore Engquist on October 2, 1937, in Bradford, MN. To this union three children were born. The couple made their home near Cambridge and continued farming. In 1960 they moved to Hillman where they owned and operated Willman’s Corner Store. In 1968 they sold the store and moved to Minneapolis, MN. Throughout the years Ralph also worked construction with companies such as Kraus-Anderson and, from 1968 to 1972, Onan’s in Minneapolis. In 1972 they retired to Peavy Lake. Lenora died in 1986. He loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He had an interest in music, playing the drums, accordion and the violin. He also enjoyed woodworking and gardening.

Survivors include his daughters, Alice (Lyle) Anderson of Prior Lake, MN and Shirley (Harvey) Larson of Hillman, MN; daughter-in-law, Kathy Willman of Fridley, MN; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lenore; one son, Wallace “Pud”; brothers, Adolph, Arthur, Albert and his twin, Roy; sisters, Minnie, Madelia, Mildred and Edna.

The casketbearers included grandsons: Wade and Brent Willman, Brian Anderson, Jeff and Kent Larson, Ron Rezachek, Mark Vegsund and Stephen Leach.

Herbert E. Drews

Herbert E. Drews, age 68, a resident of Savage, MN, died October 20, 1997, in Dripping Springs, TX.

Funeral services were October 24, at the Burnsville, MN Funeral Home, followed by burial with military honors at the Fort Snelling National Cemetery.

Herbert was born February 28, 1929, to Emil and Clara (Kuhl) Drews near Swanville, MN. He served in the U.S. Army from August 1952 to July 1954 and was stationed in Germany during the Korean Conflict. Following his discharge he did construction work in Jamestown and Valley City, ND. He married Grace Erhart on July 5, 1956, in Watertown, SD. In 1974 he went to work for Hoffman Engineering in Anoka, MN, where he was employed until retiring in 1992. He was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in New Ulm, MN, a lifetime member of the American Legion and Post 132 in New Ulm. He loved fishing and playing cards.

Survivors include his daughters, Linda and Richard Pontsler of Ocean Shores, WA, Jo Lanier of Minneapolis, MN, Pamela and Mark Firle of Dripping Springs, Janet Drews of Burnsville, and Gloria and Erick Vallecillo of Chicago, IL; son, Herbert Drews, Jr., of Minneapolis; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; brothers, Reinhold Drews and Richard and Hilda Drews, all of Swanville, Emil Drews of Rockford, IL, Edwin Drews of Princeton, MN, Ervin Drews of Sauk Rapids, MN, and Norman and Ann Drews of Blaine, MN; many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and -nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Grace, in May 1996, his parents, three brothers, two sisters and three sisters-in-law.

Ben Klapel

Ben Harry Klapel, age 92, a resident of Tahlequah, OK, died September 27, 1997, at Go Ye Village in Tahlequah.

Funeral services were held October 2, 1997, at Go Ye Village Chapel with Rev. Paul Tavener officiating. Burial followed in Tahlequah City Cemetery under the direction of Hart Funeral Home.

Ben was born January 20, 1905, in Buffalo Lake, MN, the son of William and Amelia (Schaumon) Klapel. In 1952 he married Nime Selvina Johnson in the state of Iowa. Ben was in the Army for a short while and farmed in Fort Ripley, MN, for many years. The Klapels moved to Little Falls, MN, where he was a carpenter and Nime taught school. They later lived in Bella Vista, AR, where they were members of the Assembly of God Church. They were very helpful and supportive of the Assembly of God ministry and missionaries. On July 29, 1992, they moved to Go Ye Village.

Survivors include one brother, William E, Klapel of Stacy, MN; five sisters, Millie E. Klapel of Anoka, MN, Minnie Allen and Emma L. Killian, both of Little Falls, Elda McDonnell of St. Cloud, MN, and Hattie Jensen of Port Orchard, WA; a sister-in-law, Violet Klapel of Nampa, ID; a host of nieces and nephews and many friends and loved ones. He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Nime; three brothers and four sisters.

Jean Anne Weiss
Jean Anne Weiss, age 57, a resident of Randall, MN, died at her home on September 13, 1997.
Funeral services were held September 18 at St. James Catholic Church in Randall with Father Al Quade officiating. Burial was in the St. James Parish Cemetery.

Jean Anne Weiss was born on August 6, 1940, to George and Gertrude (Kasper) Brummer in Little Falls, MN. She graduated from St. Francis High School in Little Falls. She was married to Roland Weiss in 1961 in Pierz, MN. Jean worked at the Little Falls Daily Transcript. She moved to Minneapolis, MN, and worked for the Billy Graham Institute for several years. In 1985 she moved to Randall to care for her mother. Jean was a member of the St. James Catholic Church in Randall. She enjoyed crocheting and playing cards.

Survivors include a son, Jamie Weiss of Auburn, NE; two daughters, Debra Richard of Portland, OR, and Cynthia Weiss of Orlando, FL; her mother, Gertrude of Sartell, MN; two brothers, Roger Brummer of Fairfield, CA, and Roland Brummer of St. Cloud, MN; a sister, Mary Woods of Annapolis, MD, and six grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father.

Patsy Peterson
Patsy J. Peterson, age 50, a resident of Hillman, MN, died September 15, 1997, at United Hospital in St. Paul, MN.
Memorial services were held at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Hillman on September 20 with Rev. Lynn Broughton officiating. Burial was in the Lone Pine Cemetery in Morrill, MN.

Patsy was born April 26, 1947, in St. Cloud, MN, to Andrew and Geraldine Carter. She grew up in the Hillman area and attended elementary school in Hillman and graduated from the Onamia High School in 1965. Patsy attended Brainerd Community College. After graduation from college, she worked for the Brainerd Chamber of Commerce. Patsy was united in marriage to John Peterson on June 18, 1966, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Hillman. The couple moved to Brainerd, MN, for a few years and then returned to the Hillman area. Patsy worked for the Hillman Post Office for a number of years and then returned to the farm with her husband. Patsy enjoyed gardening, crocheting, knitting and all types of crafts. She also appreciated the outdoors. Patsy had a kind heart and was sensitive to the needs of others and willing to help when ever she was needed.

Survivors include her parents, Andrew and Geraldine Carter of Hillman; brothers, Keith Carter and wife Linda of Hillman and Randy Carter of Minneapolis, MN; sister, Nancy Elwell and husband Dennis of Oak Park, MN, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents; husband, John in 1989 and brothers, Billy and Andy.
