Margaret Piekarski

Margaret Piekarski, age 70, a resident of Fergus Falls, MN, died February 20, 1998, at the Merit Care Hospital in Fargo, ND.

Funeral services were held February 24 at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Fergus Falls with Father Joseph Korf officiating. Burial was in St. Otto’s Cemetery, Fergus Falls.

Margaret was born April 28, 1927, in Little Falls, MN, the daughter of Halver and Helen Hilmerson. She grew up and attended school in Little Falls. After high school graduation, she worked for the Morrison County Courthouse. On June 24, 1946, she married Louis Piekarski. In 1957, the couple moved to rural Fergus Falls and farmed in the Fergus Falls area. She enjoyed flower gardening and traveling. She was a member of the Buse Township School Board and she was also the treasurer for Buse Township for numerous years. She was an active member of Catholic Daughters and a volunteer for the Pioneer Retirement Community.

Survivors include her husband, Louis; three daughters, Kathy Hudson and husband Doug of Wahpeton, ND, Patricia Piekarski of Fergus Falls and Jane Piekarski of New Jersey; four sons, David Piekarski and wife Susan of Ashby, MN, and Robert Piekarski, Dan Piekarski and wife Susan and Michael Piekarski and wife Tamie, all of Fergus Falls; six grandchildren, Kari, Jason, Kevin, Alisha, Doug and Levi; sisters, Evelyn Hinnenkamp of Nevada, Mary Buss of Pequot Lakes, MN, Betty Thrasher of Alabama and Doris Larson of Little Falls; one brother, Jim Hilmerson of Little Falls and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Frank Hilmerson.

Gertrude Hedblom

Gertrude H. Hedblom, age 92, a resident of Little Falls, MN, formerly of Freedhem, MN, died February 20, 1998, at St. Otto’s Care Center in Little Falls.

Funeral services were held February 24 at First Lutheran Church in Little Falls with Rev. David Steffenson officiating. Burial was in the Freedhem Cemetery in Freedhem.

Gertrude was born January 18, 1906, in Freedhem to the late Alfred and Anna (Malm) Swanson. Gertrude grew up and attended District 89 school in Freedhem. She was united in marriage to Clarence J. Hedblom on June 15, 1929, at the Freedhem Lutheran Church in Freedhem. After their marriage, the couple farmed in the Freedhem area until 1946. Gertrude occasionally worked as a clerk at the Freedhem store. The couple continued to live in Freedhem until retiring in 1988 to the Alverna Apartments in Little Falls. Gertrude became a resident of St. Otto’s Care Center in November 1992 where she resided until her death. Gertrude enjoyed baking, making afghans and sewing. Her home and her family were her life. She was a former member of Freedhem Lutheran Church and a current member of First Lutheran Church in Little Falls.

Survivors include her daughter, Karen Talbott and husband James of Arden Hills, MN; sister, Mabel Peterson of Annandale, MN, and grandchildren Mary Talbott of Chicago, IL, and David Talbott of Minneapolis, MN.

She was preceded in death by her husband Clarence on June 15, 1990; daughter, Marian Hedblom, two brothers and two sisters.

Pallbearers were Willis Swanson, James Peterson, Glen Rychner, Harvey Rychner, Charlie LeBlanc and Paul Hedblom.

Kimberly Griffith

Kimberly Dawn Griffith, age 37, a resident of Staples, MN, died February 19, 1998, at her home.

Funeral services were held February 21 at Faith Lutheran Church in Staples with Rev. Stephen Sveom officiating. Burial followed in Bridgeman Cemetery.

Kimberly was born July 16, 1960, in Omaha, NE, daughter of Robert Mayberry and Jeneane Johnson. She grew up in Omaha and as a young lady moved with her family to Motley, MN, where she attended Motley High School. Kimberly was united in marriage to Timothy Scott Campbell. Following his death she moved to Staples where she had worked for several years as a certified nursing assistant (CNA) at the Greater Staples Care Center.

Survivors include her parents, Jeneane Johnson of Motley and Robert Mayberry of Motley; special friend, Ken Kalkman of Staples; five daughters, Corey Campbell of New York Mills, MN, Heather Campbell of Leader, MN, and Jessie, Elizabeth and Rebecca Griffith at home; two sisters, Kelly Bienusa and Dana Fischer, both of Staples; maternal grandfather, Arlyn Welling of Motley; maternal great-grandmother, Pearl Welling of Omaha, paternal grandfather, Ray Mayberry of Omaha and several nieces, nephews , aunts and uncles.

Casketbearers were Lonny Killian, Steve Mertens, Matt Morales, Pat Bienusa, Ron Fischer and Tracy Gibson.

Theresa Sura

Theresa R. Sura, age 85, a resident of Waite Park, MN, formerly of Bowlus, MN, and Swanville, MN, died February 21, 1998, at the St. Cloud Hospital.

Funeral services were held February 25 at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Bowlus with Rev. Silverius Schmidt officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery.

Theresa was born October 15, 1912, in Collegeville, MN. The family moved to the Upsala, MN, area, where Theresa attended school. She was united in marriage to Edmund A. Sura on February 16, 1931, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Holdingford, MN. The couple farmed in Stearns County. In 1954, they moved to the Bowlus area and farmed. Theresa worked as a seamstress for Munsingwear in Little Falls, MN, for five years. She then worked as a store clerk at the Karlinski General Store in Royalton until it was closed. In 1978, the couple retired to Swanville. In 1997, Theresa moved to Waite Park. She enjoyed playing cards, bingo, fishing, quilting, sewing and, most of all, her family and friends. She loved music and could play the harmonica, violin and the accordion. Theresa was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Swanville, Christian Mothers and the Swanville Senior Center.

Survivors include her sons, Raymond Sura and wife Delores of St. Cloud, MN, Eugene Sura and wife Jenny of St. Joseph, MN, Alois Sura and wife Gladys of Columbia Heights, MN, Arnold Sura of Ogilvie, MN, and Ronald Sura of Milaca, MN; daughters, Betty Marsolek and husband Emil of Columbia Heights, Florence Koshenina and husband Jerry of New Brighton, MN, Lucille Marsolek and husband Roman of Mounds View, MN, and Joanne Bobick of St. Paul, MN; sister, Vicki Mortenson of Comstock, WI; daughters-in-law, Delores Sura of St. Cloud, Cheryl Sura of St. Paul and Elaine Sura of Mesa, AZ; 37 grandchildren and 48 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edmund on January 21, 1990; sons, Albin, Vincent, Leonard, James, Dennis, Gerald and Donald Sura; daughter, Delores Sura; four brothers and four sisters.

Pallbearers were the grandsons.

Agnes Warnberg

Mrs. Agnes A. Warnberg, age 99, a resident of Little Falls, MN, formerly of the Freedhem, MN, area, died February 19, 1998, at the Lutheran Care Center in Little Falls.

Funeral services were held February 23 at Grace Covenant Church in Little Falls with Rev. Steven Anderson and Rev. Melvin Lundeen officiating. Burial was in the Evangelical Free Church Cemetery in Freedhem.

Agnes was born January 31, 1899, in Chicago, IL, to the late John and Sophia (Broman) Ellison. In 1903, the family moved to Antigo, WI. In 1909, the family came to live in Freedhem where she attended school. Agnes was united in marriage to Arthur Warnberg on November 8, 1920, at her parents’ home in Freedhem. The couple farmed in the Freedhem area until retiring in 1982 to Pine Grove Manor in Little Falls. Agnes became a resident of the Lutheran Care Center in Little Falls in July, 1993. After her children were grown, she enjoyed braiding rugs and making bed quilts, for which she won a 1st place prize at the Minnesota State Fair. Agnes also enjoyed gathering berries and canning them into jelly and jams. She was a member of Grace Covenant Church in Little Falls.

Survivors include her sons, Howard Warnberg and wife Margaret of Little Falls, MN, Rudolph Warnberg and wife Lorraine of Richfield, MN, and Harry Warnberg and wife Emily of Lynn Haven, FL; daughters, Lois Olson and husband Edward of Overland Park, KS, Opal Liljegren and husband John of Bellevue, WA, and Barbara Thill and husband Glen of Burnsville, MN; 23 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur on May 10, 1987; parents; son, Lawrence Warnberg; brothers, David, Arvid, Fred, Albin and Julius Ellison; sisters, Alma and Hilma Stromquist, Alice Beckman and Ellen Peterson.

Pallbearers were grandsons.

Edward Boisvert

Edward E. Boisvert, age 70, a resident of Spring Lake Park, MN, died February 23, 1998, at Unity Hospital in Fridley, MN.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held February 26 at St. Timothy’s Catholic Church in Blaine, MN. Interment was at the Fort Snelling National Cemetery.

Ed was born and grew up in Little Falls, MN. He married Opal Natalie Collings on February 25, 1963. He was a veteran of World War II, a life member of the Fridley VFW Post and a member of the Carpenters Union.

Survivors include his wife, Opal; mother, Frances; daughters, Kathy Deggendorf and husband Joe, Adele Boisvert, Ann Walker and husband Brian and Chrissy Boisvert; sons, Jeff and wife Yvonne and Jay; grandchildren, Joe, Ben, Sam, Billy and Maria; sisters, Evelyn Ploharz and Dorothy Daleiden and husband Kenneth; many nieces nephews and other relatives and friends.

John Wedin

John (Gene) Wedin, age 90, a resident of Upsala, MN, died February 23, 1998, at his home.

Funeral services were held February 26 at Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Upsala with Pastor Alan Bray officiating.

John was born July 16, 1907, in Upsala to Nels and Matilda (Nelson) Wedin. He was raised and educated in Upsala. He began working for the B & 0 & Alton Railroad in Chicago, IL, in 1922 as a fireman. In 1930, he moved to Grand Forks, ND, where he worked for the Great Northern & Burlington Northern Railroads as an engineer. He was united in marriage with Ida Thiers on May 21, 1933, at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Grey Eagle, MN. John retired from the railroad on September 15, 1972, after 50 years of service. In 1976, the couple moved to Upsala where they resided until John’s death. He was baptized and confirmed at Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Upsala. He was a past member of the Augustana Lutheran Church in Grand Forks, ND, and a present member of Gethsemane Lutheran in Upsala. John was a member of the Kem Temple, and Malta Lodge #131 of Grand Forks, was a member of Order of Eagles Aerie 350 of East Grand Forks, MN, BLF & E Union, Upsala Historical Society and a past member of the Elks, Grand Forks, ND. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, his family and his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Ida; children, Robert Wedin and wife Phyllis of Grand Forks, ND, Judy Barta and husband Stan of Michigan, ND, Joanne Eason and husband Bob of Elk River, MN, and Sandra Kuepers and husband Charles of Upsala, MN; 17 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Ernie; sister, Esther Hagstrom and great-grandson, Joshua Barta.

Casketbearers were Bob and Mark Wedin, Scott and Tom Anderson, Jeff and Joel Barta and Sean and Marc Kuepers.
