Eldor L. Kazeck

Eldor L. Kazeck, age 76, a resident of Long Prairie, MN, died March 4, 1998, at St. Gabriel’s Hospital in Little Falls, MN.

Funeral services were held March 7 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Swanville, MN, with Rev. John O’Grein officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery.

Eldor L. Kazeck was born October 21, 1921, in Randall, MN, to the late Afred and Louise ‘Heck’ Kazeck. He grew up in the Randall area and attended country school. In 1935, the family moved to a farm north of Little Falls and Eldor helped farm. He entered the U.S. Army on November 13, 1944, and served as a policeman overseas until his honorable discharge on November 19, 1946. Eldor returned home and began a trucking business. He was united in marriage to Dorothy L. Stockman on March 31, 1950, at Zion Lutheran Church in Little Falls. Eldor worked at Hennepin Paper Mill in Little Falls from 1950 until retiring in 1983. The couple lived in the Swanville area from 1958 until 1971, when they relocated to Lake Beauty. Eldor enjoyed fishing, hunting, woodworking, gardening and tending his birds. He was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Swanville and the Long Prairie VFW Post 1140.

Survivors include his wife Dorothy; son, Jeffry Kazeck and wife Gayle of Long Prairie; daughters, Laura Benning and husband Leo of Ham Lake, MN; Brenda Mely and husband David of Spring Lake Park, MN; daughter-in-law, Rosanne Kazeck of Burtrum, MN; brother, Arno Kazeck of Sauk Rapids, MN; sisters, Rose Borck and husband Rudy of Fremont, NE; Wilma Stockman and husband Rev. William of Parkers Prairie, MN; 12 grandchildren and two great-granddaughters.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Richard Kazeck; brothers, Elvir and Reuben Kazeck.

Honorary pallbearers were David and Dennis Kazeck, Charles and Reed Stockman, John Claseman and Richard Peterschick.

Pallbearers were Ryan Kazeck, Gregory Mely, Christopher Sedey, Darrell Kukowski, Cory Larson, and Jayson Lindsay.

Beatrice ‘Bee’ Raster

Beatrice “Bee” Raster, age 95, a resident of Little Falls, MN, died May 27, 1998, at St. Otto’s Health Care Center in Little Falls.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held May 30, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Father Nick Landsberger officiating. Interment was at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.

Beatrice was born May 15, 1903, in Cushing, MN, to Joseph and Mary (Gorman) Houston. She was united in marriage to Matt Raster June 27, 1931, in Pontiac, MI. She taught school for 30 years and was at Our Lady of Lourdes School for 14 years. Bea was very involved with the DFL.

Survivors include two sisters, Helyn Hoffstedt of Little Falls and Margaret Herum of St. Otto’s Health Care Center in Little Falls; one brother, Walter Houston of Denver, CO, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1967 and five brothers.

Marvin LaValla

Marvin LaValla, age 75, a resident of Royalton, MN, died May 24, 1998, at his home.

Funeral services were May 28 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Royalton with Reverend John Ramsbacher officiating and burial was in Riverside Cemetery in Royalton.

Marvin was born on September 3, 1922, to Raymond and Ellen (McGuire) LaValla. He was united in marriage to Hazel Muncy, October 23, 1946, in Baudette, MN. Marvin was a part-time farmer and was employed at Boise Cascade in International Falls, MN, for 36 years. In 1984 he retired and moved to Royalton. He was Past Commander of Osmer J. Leigh American Legion Post 137 of Royalton, manager of the Royalton Community Center and Past President of the District Council of Aging for Morrison County. He is Past President of the Senior Citizens Club of Royalton. Marvin was the recipient of the Senior Citizen Award of Morrison County, and nominated for Senior Citizen of the State of Minnesota. He was also a member of Barber Shoppers of Little Falls, MN.

Survivors include his wife Hazel of Royalton; daughters Marlyce Stockinger of St. Paul, MN, Joyce Fink of Sauk Rapids, MN, and Christie Nord of Succasunna, NJ; grandchildren, Tasha and Tiffany Stockinger, Ryan, Eric and Wendy Fink, Travis and Brett Nord; brothers, Alvin of Ray, MN, LeRoy, Alfred and Vernon of Williams, MN, and Lloyd of Warroad, MN; sisters, Loretta Voll of Salol, MN, Evelyn Pederson of Warroad, Carol Norquist of Modesto, CA, and Cathy Baie of Ellensburg, WA.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.

Casketbearers were grandsons Travis Nord, Ryan and Erik Fink, and brothers, Alvin, Alfred, LeRoy, Vernon, and Lloyd LaValla.

Emily Leyes
Emily L. Kaiser Leyes, age 84, died November 15, 1997, in Viewcrest Health Center, Duluth, MN.

Emily was born in Royalton, MN, to parents John M. and Mary C. (Czech) Kaiser. She moved to Duluth in 1939 to work at St. Mary’s Hospital. She later worked at the former Klear Flax Co. until her marriage to James M. Leyes in 1948. A charter member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church, she had been active in its ladies circles. Emily devoted her life to her husband and raising her family. In later years, she enjoyed her garden and grandchildren.

Survivors include children, Marie Franckowiak and husband Raymond of Duluth, John Leyes of Bloomington, MN, Kathryn Leyes of Duluth and Robert Leyes and wife Debra of Chaska, MN; sisters, Helen Boros of Little Falls, MN, Sara Marek of St. Cloud, MN, and Martha Czeck and husband Paul of Bowlus, MN; brothers, John and wife Angie of St. Cloud, Alois and wife Lucille of Royalton and Otto and wife Dolores of St. Cloud and grandchildren, Michael, Pamela, Christine, Mark, Stephanie and Matthew.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband and sisters, Clara and Elizabeth.

Evangeline Tuholsky

Evangeline Marie Tuholsky, age 79, a resident of Little Falls, MN, died October 11, 1997, at St. Gabriel’s Hospital in Little Falls.

Funeral services were held October 14 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church with Father Leroy Kremer officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery.

Evangeline was born Marcy 2, 1918, in Minneapolis, MN, to Anthony and Mary (Hlad) Prozinski. She married Daniel Tuholsky in September, 1941. They resided in Camas, WA, until moving back to Little Falls in 1957. Evangeline worked as a bookkeeper for Aaronson’s Wholesale Grocery until her retirement. She was a member of Christian Mothers and Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church.

Survivors include daughters, Sharon Pasch and husband James and Maureen Klosowki and husband Dennis, both of Little Falls; brother, Anthony Prozinski and wife Harriet of Cushing, MN; sisters, Sister Bernadine Prozinski, OSF of Little Falls and Marilyn Pettiette and husband Lawrence of Shreveport, LA; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by husband, Daniel in 1990.

Pallbearers were James and Gerald Pasch, John Prozinski, Dennis, Brian and Kyle Klosowski.

Nancy Jo Meller

Nancy Jo Meller, age 39, a resident of Baxter, MN, died October 9, 1997, at St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Brainerd, MN.

Nancy Jo was born May 23, 1958, in Brainerd to Harvey and Ardis (Holsapple) Steinke. She graduated from Brainerd High School in 1976. She was a contract administrator at Camp Ripley.

Survivors include her fiance, Robert DeRosier of Little Falls, MN; his two children, Sara and Ryan DeRosier; her mother, of Brainerd; a sister, Suzanne Krueger of Brainerd; brother, Jack Steinke of Brainerd; brother-in-law, Steve Krueger; sister-in-law, Sheri Steinke; niece, Amber Steinke and two nephews, Wyatt and Travis Steinke. She was preceded in death by her father and grandparents.

Mary Svensson

Mary Louise Svensson, age 65, a resident of Hopkins, MN, died October 13, 1997, at Fairview Southdale Hospital, Edina, MN.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held October 16 at the Church of St. Joan of Arc, South Minneapolis. Interment was in Ft. Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis. Mary was born December 27, 1931, in Little Falls, MN, to Reinhard and Clara (Thommes) Stoll. She grew up in Pierz, MN, and graduated in 1949 from St. Francis High School, Little Falls. In 1952, she graduated from the St. Cloud Hospital School of Nursing with an RN diploma. More recently, she retired after a 30 year career at Fairview Southdale Hospital (Edina, MN) where she was director of nursing. Mary was very active in the community and the Catholic Church of St. Joan of Arc, Minneapolis, and was a member of the Alumni Association of St. Cloud School of Nursing.

Survivors include her husband, Malcolm of Hopkins; sons and daughters-in-law, Eric and Dawn of Hopkins, Michael and Meg of Pipestone, MN, and Kurt of Hopkins; Daughter and son-in-law, Jo and Tim Miller of Chaska, MN; daughter, Kristin Svensson and friend Michael Kearney of Minneapolis; six grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, William and Delrose Stoll of Pierz; sister and brother-in-law, Joan and Louis Rudd of Bloomington, MN; sister, Kay Stoll of Robbinsdale, MN, and other relatives and friends.

Valeria Waytashek

Valeria Marie Waytashek, age 74, a resident of Hillman, MN, formerly of the Pierz, MN, area, died October 11, 1997, at the St. Cloud Hospital as a result of injuries received in an automobile accident. Valeria was born July 25, 1923, in Rice, MN, to the late Lawrence and Ann (Schafer) Aschenbrener. She attended school in Rice and, at the age of 17, she taught in a country school. She was united in marriage to Jerome John Waytashek on September 19, 1943. They lived in the Pierz area until 1986. During that time, she taught school in Pierz and Lastrup. She owned and operated an antique store in Little Falls, MN. Valeria sold German Mutual storm insurance, was a stockbroker and farmed with her husband north of Pierz. After retiring they moved to Fort Meyers, FL, and summered in the Hillman area. She enjoyed painting, collecting antiques, book work and spending time with her family. She was a member of Christian Mothers.

Survivors include her sons, Roger and wife Fran of Cambridge, MN, Paul and wife Connie of Little Falls and Wayne of Cambridge, MN; daughters, Bonnie Holstlander and companion Bruce of Duluth, MN, Diane Barber of Phoenix, AZ, Debra Zipf and husband Matt of Plymouth, MN, and Mari Jo Poster and husband John of Pierz; sons-in-laws, Harvey Patterson of Rogers, MN, and Raymond Woitalla of Harding; sisters, Ermma Merenda and husband Joe of New York, LaVerne Kowalczyk and husband Clarence of Royalton, MN, Sally Nouis and husband Bob of Texas and Grace Barthelemy and husband Al of Royalton; brothers, Erwin Aschenbrener and wife Dedris of California and Robert Aschenbrener and wife Elsie of North Dakota; 26 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jerome in 1991; three daughters, Laurie in 1977, Sylvia in 1992 and Gloria in 1997; great-granddaughter Bethany in 1994 and brothers, Roman (Buddy) and Clarence Aschenbrener.
