Juel Pitzel
Juel Ann Pitzel, age 62, a resident of Little Falls, MN, formerly of Frazee, MN, died July 31, 1998, near Paris, France.
A memorial mass was held on August 8, 1998, in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Frazee, with Father Joe DeCrans officiating. Burial will be held in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Frazee at a later date. There will be a memorial service for her friends in Little Falls at a late date.

Juel Ann Marlene Pitzel was born on June 23, 1936, the daughter of Carl and Emma (Kratzke) Pitzel of Hobart Township, near Vergas, MN. There she was raised. She attended and graduated from Frazee High School in 1954. Following school, she graduated from Moorhead State University in Moorhead, MN, with a degree in teaching. She then taught school in the Perham, MN, area. She then taught school in Roseau, MN, before teaching in Little Falls. She retired in 1997.

Survivors include her mother, Emma Pitzel, Frazee; two sisters, Janice (Lloyd) Watt of New Hope, MN, and Jane (Orville) Schnabel of Moorhead; two brothers, Monroe (Rose) of Moorhead and Michael (Bette) of Frazee. She is also survived by 12 nephews and nieces and two great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, Carl.

Julia ‘June’ Kedroski
Julia “June” Kedroski, age 80, a resident of Chicago, IL, formerly of Sobieski, MN, died August 4, 1998, at the home of her great niece Linda (Nouis) Carlson in Little Falls, MN.
Mass of Christian Burial was August 8 at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Sobieski with Father Raymond Donnay officiating. Burial was at the parish cemetery.

June was born April 27, 1918, in Pike Creek Township to Ignatius and Mary (Tillman) Piotrowski. She married Leo Kedroski on August 30, 1941, in Chicago, IL. She worked at Merrimount Spring & Wire Co; then later she and her husband ran a tavern called “Leo and June’s Tap.”

Survivors include her sister, Louise Kroijer of Redwood City, CA; niece, Beverly Nouis of Little Falls; nephews , Louis Ginter of Little Falls; and many other nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; 12 brothers and three sisters.

Casketbearers were Perry Nouis, Scott Nouis, Troy Nouis, Richard Carlson, Lindsay Nouis, Kayla Carlson and Linda R. Carlson.

William Crowder
William E. “Bill” Crowder, age 81, died August 18, 1998, at St. Anthony Care Center, Village of St. Anthony, MN.
Burial was at Fort Snelling Cemetery.

William was born February 28, 1917, to the late Minnie A. Klein-Crowder and William E. Crowder, Sr., on the Crowder ranch in Mountrail County, ND. Bill served in World War II as a lieutenant in the Army. After the war, he finished his law degree at the University of MN and received his Juris Doctorate, graduating in the top 10 of his class. He returned to Little Falls, MN, where he opened a law practice with John Katzmarek. He then opened his law practice in the Midland Bank Building in Minneapolis, MN. He practiced there many years until retirement. Bill was very active in many organizations such as The Shriners and the American Legion (legal advisor).

Survivors include two brothers, Fred of Mountrail County and Paul of Little Falls and two sisters, Mable of Dawson, MN, and June H. Crowder-Ashling, also of Dawson.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister and one brother.

Henry Kelzenberg
Henry Kelzenberg, age 87, a resident of Buckman, MN, died August 17, 1998, at St. Cloud Hospital in St. Cloud, MN.
Mass of Christian burial was held on August 22 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Buckman with Father Ron Dockendorf officiating. Burial was at St. Michael’s parish cemetery.

Henry was born November 23, 1910, in Buckman to Hubert and Anna (Roos) Kelzenberg. Henry attended Rural School District #17 in West Buckman. On June 29, 1937, he was united in marriage to Olivia Dehler in Buckman and continued to live in Buckman where they farmed for 50 years. He also worked for Franklin Manufacturing in St. Cloud. Henry enjoyed hunting, fishing and was a Twins fan. He was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church and St. Michael’s Society in Buckman.

Survivors include his children, Alfred Kelzenberg and wife Donna (Sahr) of Shoreview, MN, Norman Kelzenberg and wife Barbara (Carll) of Spring Lake Park, MN, Leon Kelzenberg and wife Jean (Sitzman) of Watertown, MN, LouAnn Hoppe and husband Del of White Bear Lake, MN, Dennis Kelzenberg and wife Beverly (Hoheisel) of St. Cloud, James Kelzenberg and wife Sue (Williamson) of Rochester, MN, Ollie Kelzenberg and wife Kimber (Doring) of Leander, TX, and Reuben Kelzenberg and wife Sandra (Gross) of Chanhassan, MN; brothers, Theodore Kelzenberg of Richfield, MN, Gilbert Kelzenberg of St. Cloud and Herman Kelzenberg of Hendersonville, TN; 17 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Olivia (October 11, 1995) and one brother, Hubert.

Casketbearers were his sons, Norman Kelzenberg, Alfred Kelzenberg, Leon Kelzenberg, Dennis Kelzenberg, Ollie Kelzenberg, James Kelzenberg, Reuben Kelzenberg and son-in-law, Del Hoppe.

Fr. Joseph Fridgen
Fr. Joseph J. Fridgen, age 74, a resident of Grey Eagle, MN, died August 14, 1998, at his home in Grey Eagle.
A Mass of Christian burial was held August 18 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Grey Eagle with Bishop John Kinney officiating. Entombment will be at the Assumption Cemetery in St. Cloud, MN.

Fr. Joseph John Fridgen was born on July 1, 1924, at Vining, MN, son of the late Michael A. and Barbara (Thoennes) Fridgen. He graduated from Crosier High School at Onamia, MN, then attended Crosier Jr. College for two years. He studied theology and graduated from St. Paul Seminary. He was ordained by Bishop Bartholome at St. Mary’s Cathedral in St. Cloud on June 3, 1950. He served as assistant at Our Lady of Victory in Fergus Falls, MN - July 19, 1950. He served as pastor at St. John Nepomuk Church at Lake Reno, MN - July 1955, at St. Francis of Assisi in St. Francis, MN - August 1961, then returned to Fergus Falls and served as pastor - July 1968. He then moved to Osakis, MN, and served at Immaculate Heart - July 1980. He then moved to Grey Eagle and served a dual role as pastor at St. Joseph Church in Grey Eagle and St. Bernard Church at Ward Springs, MN - July 1986. Retired December 1, 1995. Additional assignments, first half-time Chaplain at Fergus Falls State Hospital - 1950-1955, Fr. Fridgen served on the Presbyterial Council of the St. Cloud Diocese and served as dean of the Fergus Falls and Melrose deaneries. Fr. Fridgen enjoyed the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling, flying. He was a past member of the Lions Club and Elks Club.

Survivors include his brother, Andrew Fridgen of Waukesha, WI, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Vince and Reynold and two sisters, Anne and Catherine.

Harold Jones
Harold D. “Bud” Jones, age 64, a resident of Onamia, MN, died August 14, 1998, at his residence.
Services were held August 17 at the Peterson-Johnson Funeral Home in Onamia. Burial will be at the Onamia area Veterans Cemetery in Onamia. Military honors will be provided by the Onamia Area Veterans.

Harold was born September 23, 1933, to Dewey and Edith (McGuire) Jones in Little Falls, MN. He grew up and attended schools in the Little Falls area. Following school, Bud served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. After four years in the service, he moved to the Minneapolis, MN, area and began working for the Soo Line Railroad. Bud was united in marriage to Marion Stine on July 27, 1957, at St. Elizabeth’s Church in Minneapolis. To this union four children were born. The couple made their home in Minneapolis until moving to Onamia in 1959. He then started the Bud Jones Auto Salvage yard in Onamia. He was a member of the American Legion in Onamia and a former member of the Onamia Lions Club. Bud enjoyed motor sports and fishing, but most of all, being self-employed. He was also a very familiar face at the Minneapolis impound auction.

Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Marion; four children, Mike of Onamia, Cindy (Dan) Jones-Seely of Boulder, CO, Bill (Donna) of Onamia and Melanie Jones of Boulder; five grandchildren, Justin, Kristen, Ryan and Kyle Jones and Morgan Seely; two sisters, Irene (Art) Holz of Baxter, MN, and Helen (Russell) Oberton of Randall, MN; mother-in-law, Mary Kangas of Milaca, MN; nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Kyle Jason Jones.

Casketbearers were Gordy Anderson, Danny Mehrwerth, Gary Oberton, Steve Peterson, Gerard Sullivan and Cliff Sasker.

The honorary casketbearers were Bud’s grandchildren.

Robert Stern
Robert Stern, age 71, a resident of Upsala, MN, died August 13, 1998, at the St. Cloud Hospital, St. Cloud, MN.

Mass of Christian burial was held August 19 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Upsala with Father Greg Mastey officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery.

Robert was born April 21, 1927, in Long Prairie, MN, to John and Katherine (Fraune) Stern. He attended elementary school and high school in Osakis, MN. He graduated from high school in 1945. Robert served 18 months in the U.S. Army, and after he got out he moved to Upsala. He married Irene Kveton on November 22, 1952, at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Browerville, MN. Robert operated Stern Produce in Upsala for 10 years. Robert was a poultry products inspector for the Minnesota Department of Agriculture for 14 years, a marketing specialist for the Minnesota Department of Agriculture for two years, and an industrial developer for the Minnesota Department of Economic Development for 14 years until his retirement. He was a charter member and council member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Upsala, served as Upsala Fire Department Chief, past board member Upsala Area School Board, past board member Upsala Library Board, past commander of Upsala Legion, past board member Albany Area Hospital, served on the Advisory Committee for the Department of Economic Security, past board member of Private Industry Council, past president of Central Minnesota Retired State Employees, Knights of Columbus member, and past board member of the Knights of Columbus Charities Committee. In his spare time he liked to fish and golf.

Survivors include Robert's wife, Irene of Upsala; two daughters, Patti Tschida and husband Darrell of Willmar, MN, and Julie Vouk and husband Jesse of Maple Grove, MN; brother, Clarence Stern and wife Rosie of Long Prairie, MN; four grandchildren; one brother-in-law; one sister-in-law and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister-in-law and one brother-in-law.

Joseph Paul Zajac
Joseph Paul Zajac, age 83, a resident of Onamia, MN, formerly of Hillman, MN, died August 24, 1998, at the Onamia Nursing Home.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held August 28 at St. Rita’s Catholic Church in Hillman with Father Nathan Packard officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery.

Joseph P. Zajac was born March 11, 1915, in Minneapolis, MN, to the late Frank and Victoria (Felius) Zajac. At the age of six years, his family moved to the Hillman area where they farmed. After his schooling, Joe worked on various farms in Minnesota and North Dakota. He later worked as a grain truck driver in Breckenridge, MN, and also served as a police officer in Breckenridge for five years. Joe moved to the Little Falls area and served as Morrison County Sheriff from 1955 to 1963. He returned to the Hillman area and farmed, later moving to Mille Lacs Lake. From 1989 to 1997 he lived at the Oakwood Apartments in Onamia, and in May of 1997, became a resident of the Onamia Nursing Home where he resided until his death.

Survivors include his brothers, Victor and wife Frances of Mantador, ND, Andy and wife Anna May of Hastings, MN; sisters, Mary Beumer and husband Ed of Hillman and Louise Kourim and husband Bill of Las Vegas, NV; and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, John, Simon and George.

Casketbearers were Gary, Tim, Marc, Larry, Raymond and John, Jr., Zajac and Jim Beumer.
