Viola ‘Vi’ Marshik
Viola M. (Vi) Marshik, 65, of New Hope, MN, formerly of Pierz, MN, passed away August 14, 1998, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, MN. Services were held August 20 at Gill Brothers Funeral Chapel in New Hope. Interment was in Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis.
Viola Marshik was born in Genola, MN, to Leo and Amelia (Hoheisel) Sahr. She married Bernard J. Marshik on June 22, 1954, in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Pierz.

Survivors include her husband; daughters and son, Ronda Reimer of Maple Grove, Brenda Thour of Brooklyn Center, and Paul of Los Gatos, CA; four grandchildren; and sister, Donna Kelzenberg of Shoreview, MN.

Memorials are preferred to the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

Adam Taszarek
Adam Taszarek, age 87, a resident of rural Little Falls, MN, died August 24, 1998, at St. Gabriel’s Hospital in Little Falls.
Funeral services were held August 27 at Zion Lutheran Church in Little Falls with Rev. Martin Langemo officiating. Interment was in Oakland Cemetery in Little Falls.

Adam Taszarek was born on September 5, 1910 in Edgeley, ND, to the late Stanley and Hedwig (Wagwoisinik) Taszarek. He grew up near Edgeley, where he farmed. He was united in marriage to Amelia Schulz on September 20, 1940, in Valley City, ND. The couple continued farming near Edgeley until 1949 when they moved to Little Falls where they farmed in Darling Township. Adam semi-retired from farming in 1995. He enjoyed fishing, riding his three-wheeler and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Little Falls.

Survivors include his wife, Amelia Taszarek of rural Little Falls; son, Duane Taszarek and wife, Carol of Little Falls; daughter, Pat Copa and husband Don of Little Falls; grandchildren, Tim, Todd and Chad Taszarek, Amy Segler and Kurt Copa; sisters, Stella Forsman of Edgeley, and Sophie Malone of New Richmond, WI, and many nieces and nephews.

Adam Taszarek was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, Donald Dale Taszarek; three brothers and two sisters.

Honorary pallbearers were his grandchildren, Tim, Todd and Chad Taszarek, Amy Segler and Kurt Copa.

Active casketbearers were Bill Taszarek, Jim Rakow, Cliff Segler, Darv Keehr, Jerry Keehr and Patrick Prozinski.

Kathryn Kalis
Kathryn Sylvia Kalis, age 91, a resident of Pierz, MN, formerly of Little Falls, MN, and a long time resident of Royalton, MN, died August 23, 1998, at the Harmony House in Pierz.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held August 26 at Holy Trinity Church in Royalton with Father Raymond Steffes officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery.

Kathryn S. Kalis was born June 20, 1907, in Foley, Benton County, MN, to the late Michael and Mary (Wiechert) Quigley. She grew up in Foley where she attended and graduated from Foley High School. She was united in marriage to Anton G. Kalis on May 5, 1930. Following their marriage, the couple lived in Royalton where they owned and operated a repair business. After their retirement, Kathryn and Anton moved to the Alverna Apartments in Little Falls. Anton died December 8, 1990. Kathryn continued to live at Alverna Apartments until June of 1997 when she moved to the Harmony House in Pierz, where she resided until her death. She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Royalton.

Survivors include a son, William Kalis, and wife Mary of Des Plaines, IL; daughter, Sister Latona Kalis, OSF, of Little Falls; and one granddaughter, Cathy Kalis of Des Plaines.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Edward and Frank Quigley; and sisters, Emma Trenda, Marie Zeller and Martha Baumgartner.

Cleta Hart
Cleta Pollock Hart, age 61, a resident of Union Center, MN, and formerly of Tomah, WI, died August 23, 1998, at St. Joseph’s Memorial Hospital in Hillsboro, WI.
Funeral services were held August 25 at the White Funeral Home in Tomah. Pastor Robert Toso officiated. Burial followed at the Woodlawn Cemetery in Sparta, WI.

She was born December 20, 1936, in Angelo, WI, to Clair and Iva (Shaw) Johnson. Cleta graduated the valedictorian of her class in Camp Douglas High School in 1954. She lived in Tomah most of her life where she worked at Kinder and Bandbox. She also worked as a nurse’s aide and housekeeper at a nursing home in Texas. She was united in marriage to Charles Pollock of Ohio and later married William Hart of Tomah.

Survivors include her daughter Toni (Dave) Erickson of Kilgore, TX; her son, Robert (Cindy) Pollock of Burtrum, MN; one sister, Marion (LeRoy) Madison of Union Center; two granddaughters, Jaime Pollock and Tiffani Erickson; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands , one brother, Sonny, and one sister, Camilla.

Clara Bujarski
Clara Bujarski, age 94, a resident of Foley, MN, died August 24, 1998, at the Foley Nursing Center.
Funeral services were held August 27 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Foley. The Rev. Alfred Heltemes officiated. Burial was in the parish cemetery.

Clara Bujarski was born September 12, 1903, in Alberta Township, Benton County, to Frank and Rose (Zulkosky) Zulawski. She married Henry Bujarski November 26, 1923, at SS. Peter and Paul’s Catholic Church, Gilman. She worked at Lantz Lens Craft from 1963 to 1975, and also cooked at several restaurants in Foley. She was a lifelong resident of Foley where she was a member of the Foley Christian Mothers and a lifelong member of St. John’s Catholic Church. Clara also volunteered at the nutrition center at Dewey Place in Foley.

Survivors include her daughters, Dolores and John Thomas, Little Falls; Delphine and Harland Skuza, Foley; and Lorraine, Minneapolis; 14 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Henry; daughter, Isabelle Athman; two infant children; brothers, Enoch and Mike Zulawski; sisters, Mary Stachowski, Rose Rudnitski and Ellen;DNR and four grandchildren.

Hubert Braith
Hubert “Herb” Braith, age 71, a resident of Little Falls, MN, died August 19, 1998, at his home after a long battle with pancreatic cancer.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held August 24 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Little Falls with Rev. Leroy Kremer and Rev. Nick Landsberger officiating. Burial was in the Calvary Cemetery in Little Falls.

Hubert “Herb” Braith was born October 25, 1926, in Bluegrass, Wadena County, MN, to the late John and Martha (Bushlingher) Braith. He grew up and attended school in Bluegrass. After completing his education, he met and married Phyllis Fischer on September 17, 1951, in Bluegrass. The couple moved to Casselton, ND, where they resided until 1953. In 1953, they moved to Little Falls where he worked for Larson Boats before receiving his boiler’s license in 1963 from St. Cloud Vocational School. After receiving his boiler’s license, he worked for St. Mary’s School from 1963 until 1991 when he retired. Hubert enjoyed doing carpentry work as well as trapping, hunting, fishing, gardening, playing cards and his family. Hubert was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Ducks Unlimited, NRA, Minnesota Trap-pers Association and Minnesota Deer Hunters Association.

Survivors include his wife, Phyllis of Little Falls; sons, Wayne and wife Barb Moran of St. Cloud, MN, David and wife Denise Super-Braith of Colorado Springs, CO; daughters, Kathleen Solberg and husband Neil of St. Cloud, Anita Iverson of Forks, WA, Paula Waltman and husband Donald of Little Falls, Jacqueline Madges and husband Donald of Randall, MN; brothers, Peter Braith and wife Marie of Staples, MN, Frank Braith and wife Lucy of Wadena; sisters, Agnes Kaufman and husband George of Wadena, Mathilda Walimaa of Sebeka, MN, Angie Boyer and husband Sylvester of Duluth, MN; 13 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers and three sisters.

Jerome Ringwelski
Jerome Ringwelski, age 74, a resident of Sobieski, MN, died August 23, 1998, at the St. Cloud Hospital, St. Cloud, MN.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held August 27 at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Sobieski, with Father Raymond Donnay officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery.

Jerome was born on May 25, 1924, in Little Falls, MN, to Isidore and Julia (Boros) Ringwelski. He grew up in the Sobieski area. He was united in marriage to Bernadette (Moritz) Ley in May, 1967, in St. Anna, MN. They farmed in the Sobieski area all their lives. He enjoyed farming and gardening. He was a member of the Sobieski Lions Club.

Survivors include daughters, Brenda and husband Ken Kuchenmeister of St. Cloud, and Becky and husband Leon Vetsch of Little Falls; sons, Hubert Ley of Oak Harbor, WA, Tim and wife Lynn Ley of Little Falls, Harold ad wife Julene Ley of Sobieski, and Jerry Ringwelski, JR., of Sobieski; 20 grandchildren; sister, Mrs. MaryAnn Koroll of Elmdale; brothers, Joseph and wife Anella Ringwelski of Bowlus, and Robert Ringwelski, whose address is unknown at this time.

He was preceded in death by his wife Bernadette; parents, Isidor and Julia; sister, Lucille Koroll; and brother, Father Raymond Ringwelski.

Casketbearers were Paul and Peter Fussy, Bernard Frank, Dennis Koroll, Tom Ringwelski and Tony Boras.

Marjorie Meier
Marjorie Meier, age 65, a resident of Pierz, MN, and a former resident of Long Prairie, MN, died August 24, 1998, at St. Mary’s Villa in Pierz.

Funeral services were held August 26 at the Brenny - Simonet Funeral Home (East Chapel) in Little Falls, MN, with Pastor Hilda A. Parks officiating. Burial was at the Minnesota State Veterans’ Cemetery near Camp Ripley, MN.

Marjorie was born April 22, 1933, to Lyle and Goldie Ruth (Walters) Reed in Waubay, SD. She was united in marriage to Art Meier on May 18, 1962, in LuVerne, MN. The couple made their home in the Long Prairie area for many years. Marjorie enjoyed crafts, baking, playing cards, and her grandchildren. She was a past member of the Legion Auxiliary.

Survivors include her husband, Art Meier of Long Prairie; daughter, Skyla K. Willaert and husband John of Gaylord, MN; mother Goldie Ruth Walters of Sioux Falls, SD; sister, Ramona Moe and husband Delphys of Sioux Falls; two grandchildren, Cory James Johnson and Tyler John Willaert; and, many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, Lyle Reed.
