Hildegarde Nolan
Hildegarde Nolan, age 68, a resident of Gilbert, AZ, and formerly of Little Falls, MN, died August 22, 1998 at Phoenix, AZ.

Memorial services were held August 29 at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Janesville, MN, with the Rev. Syl Brown officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery.

Hildegarde Nolan was born December 29, 1929, in St. Cloud, MN, to James and Hildegard (Hilger) Twomey. She married Dick Nolan October 15, 1955, at St. Augustine’s Catholic Church, St. Cloud. She graduated from St. Benedict’s College, St. Joseph, MN, in 1951 and had taught English and girl’s physical education in Janesville from 1951-1953 and at Pine Island from 1953 to 1955. She had been employed as a proofreader for newspapers in LeSueur and Little Falls. Hildy was a district manager in circulation for the St. Cloud Daily Times before moving to Nevada in 1987. She was a member of St. Gall’s Catholic Church, Garderville, NV, VFW Post Auxiliary #8583, the Literacy Center and the Northern Nevada Literacy Council. She had recently moved to Gilbert, AZ.

Survivors include her husband, Dick Nolan, Phoenix; daughters and sons, Ann, LaJolla, CA, Patti, Sacramento, CA, John, Gilbert, AZ, Kay Upchurch, San Diego, CA, Judy Wright, Chandler, AZ, Terry, Cary, IL; brothers and sisters, Ione Daniel, St. Cloud, Jerry Twomey, Little Falls, Renee Twomey, Roseville, MN, Elaine Stramer, Hazelton, ND, Kathleen Pecchia, Moose Lake, MN, Dr. David Twomey, Golden Valley, MN, Julie Wenner, St. Cloud, Barbara Wolfe, Helena, MT; and 10 grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Dr. James Twomey.

Marie Miller
Marie (Stegora) Miller, age 79, resident of Harding, MN, formerly of Brainerd, MN, died August 24, 1998, at the Mercy Medical Center in Coon Rapids, MN.

Funeral services were held August 28 at the Holy Cross Catholic Church in Harding with Fr. Roger Thoennes officiating. Burial was in the Holy Cross Cemetery.

Lawrence J. Liners
Lawrence J. Liners, age 85, a resident of Hillman, MN, former resident of Brainerd, MN, died July 13, 1998, at St. Cloud Hospital.

Lawrence was born December 3, 1912, in Brainerd to Omar and Frances Liners. He had owned and operated the Spring Brook Resort in Rice, MN, and the Chicken Shack in Hillman.

Survivors include his wife, Marilyn; two sons, Daniel and Terrance Liners; two daughters, Rebecca Majerus and JoAnne; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and a brother, Hank Liners.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Clarence and son, Jerry.

Irene Capko
Irene Capko, age 83, a resident of Little Falls, MN, died July 13, 1998, at St. Gabriel’s Hospital in Little Falls.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held July 16 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church with Father Leroy Kremer officiating. Burial was at Our Lady of Lourdes parish cemetery.

Irene was born April 4, 1915, in Delano, MN, to Andrew and Christina (Czech) Gnitka. She married George Capko on February 7, 1945. They had two children. The couple farmed all of their lives, starting at Swanville, then to Delano, Meyer and Maple Lake. They retired in Maple Lake for seven years, then moved to Little Falls. Irene was a caring person and a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Church.

Survivors include two sons, Dennis and wife Barb of Maple Lake, MN, and Donald and wife Ruby of Monticello, MN; brothers, Basil and Sam Gnitka; sisters, Catherine Fautsch, Susan Styrbicky, Anna Klick and Cecilia Barthel; grandchildren, David Bartel, Dennis Jr., Erik, Lori, Donald Jr., Cindy, Sarah and Crystal Capko; and, great-grandchildren, Darick and Shelby Bartel, Jamie, Ryan and Tylor Capko.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Frank, John, Matt and Andrew Gnitka; sisters, Mary Lyrek, Lucy Motzko, Margaret Secora, Florence Gnerer and Genevieve Sobczynski and grandson, Scott Capko.

Casketbearers were Dennis Jr., Erik, Larry and Jerry Capko, Ricky Klick and Dale Klick.

Anna Schram

Anna Schram, age 88, a resident of Rice, MN, died July 26, 1998, at Country Manor Health Care and Retirement Center.
Funeral services were held July 30 at First United Methodist Church in St. Cloud, MN, with Rev. Shane Burton officiating and burial in Benton County Cemetery.

Anna was born September 15, 1909, in Minden Township (rural Benton County) to Fred and Edith (VonWald) Gerzema. She married Ralph Schram on January 18, 1936, at Holy Angels Church in St. Cloud. She was a homemaker and also worked at Jack Frost for 15 years. She lived in rural Benton County her entire life. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in St. Cloud, Rice Senior Citizens, and was a volunteer at Rice Elementary School and Good Shepherd and Country Manor Nursing Homes.

Survivors include her children and spouses, David and Joanie Schram of Lewisville, TX, Fred Schram and friend, Linda Scepurek of Rice, MN, Ann and Francis Homand of Ledyard, CT, Delores and Gary Block of Monticello, MN, and John Schram of Rice; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death her parents; husband Ralph on February 6, 1968; brother, Louis Gerzema; and granddaughter, Cindi Schram.

William L. Morse

William L. “Bill” Morse, age 85, a resident of Grand Rapids, MN, died July 23, 1998, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Park Rapids, MN.
Burial was with full military honors in the Itasca - Calvary Cemetery, Grand Rapids, MN.

He was born in Minneapolis, MN and raised in Little Falls, MN. He was united in marriage to Mary Klancher in 1934. He started working in Air Shows at the age of 12, where he did wing walking, parachuting and assisted with airplane maintenance. He made his first solo flight at the age of 15; he worked in the aviation industry ever since, mostly as a bush pilot, flying from Ely, MN, into remote fishing lakes. He also flew many sightseeing tours from area resorts. During W.W. II, he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps in the Ferry Command, flying P-39 Bell Air Cobras. He had lived in the Grand Rapids area since 1960. He was a member of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, the Seacraft Pilots Association and the Experimental Aircraft Association.

Survivors include his wife, Mary; two sons, William, Jr., of Little Falls and Ray of Grand Rapids; and seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth, in 1993, a brother, Donald, and a grandson, Michael.

Thomas B. Lindner

Thomas B. Lindner, age 60, died July 8, 1998, from injuries sustained in a 1979 accident.
Private family services were at Our Lady of the Lake Church in Mound, MN and at Sullivan Lake, Hillman, MN.

Thomas was formerly of Mound, Hillman and Waconia. He had served six years in the U.S. Air Force, was a graduate of the F.B.I. Academy, was a former Hennepin County detective, the Chief of Police of Minnetrista, a part-time Carver County deputy and the former owner of the Channel Inn Resort at Platte Lake.

Survivors include his wife Leona (Mutch); children and spouses, Sherrie (Charles) Vickstrom, Randy (Donna); Rory (Marlys); sister, Sharon (Davern); brother, Michael; grandchildren, nephew, nieces, great-nieces and great-nephews, Mrs. and Mrs. Vincent Goetz, Ronald Goetz, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by parents Jake and Norie Lindner.

Imelda A. Schuman
Imelda A. Schuman, age 80, a resident of Swanville, MN, died November 25, 1998, at her home.
Funeral services were held November 30 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Swanville with Rev. Thomas Meyer officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery.

Imelda A. Schuman was born December 16, 1917, near Swanville to the late Peter and Mary ‘Liesch’ Schuman. She grew up near Swanville and graduated from the Swanville High School. Imelda worked as a postal clerk in Ward Springs, MN, and eventually transferred to the Swanville Post Office. She became the Swanville Post Master in 1968 and retired from her position in 1979. Imelda loved to travel, restore furniture and make quilts. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Swanville and was active in the Mission Circle.

Survivors include a brother, Raymond Schuman of Georgia; nephews, Lawrence Schuman (and Faye) of Ft. Morgan, CO and Leo Schuman (and Diane) of Glyndon, MN; nieces, Sister Mary Schuman of Baudette, MN, and her personal care attendant, Sister Fran Kempenich; sister-in-law, Frances Schuman of Sauk Centre, MN; nine grand nieces and nephews, and 10 great grand-nieces and nephews.

Imelda was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Lucy Schuman; and, a brother, John Schuman.

Pallbearers were Frank Gessell, Thomas DeFrance, David Sobania, Terry Nash, Gerald Hollermann and David Schuman.

Irene (Decker) Kelly
Irene (Decker) Kelly, age 92, a resident of St. Paul, MN, formerly of Swanville, MN, died November 26, 1998, at the Galtier Nursing Home in St. Paul, MN.

Funeral services were held November 30 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Swanville with Rev. John Grein officiating. Burial was in Springbrook Cemetery in Swanville.

Irene (Decker) Kelly was born on May 22, 1906, in Grey Eagle, MN, to the late Frank and Ida (Koester) Dettler. She grew up and attended school in the Long Prairie school system, graduating in 1924. After completing her high school education, Irene attended Long Prairie teachers training for one year. She taught country school for four years. Irene was united in marriage to Reinhold Decker on September 24, 1930, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Long Prairie, MN. The couple farmed in the Swanville area for 49 years. Reinhold passed away January 30, 1979. Irene continued living on the farm until 1980. She was united in marriage to Jesse Kelly in 1981 and the couple moved to St. Paul where she resided until her death. Irene was a senior companion for fourteen years at the Galtier Nursing Home in St. Paul. She enjoyed visiting with friends, crocheting, reading and spending time with her family.

Survivors include her husband, Jesse Kelly; son, Warren Decker and wife, Ruth of Minnetonka, MN; daughter, Marjorie Olson of St. Paul; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband Reinhold; son, Andrew Decker; daughter, Marilyn Zellman and an infant daughter; brother, Edwin Dettler; sisters, Edna Gamhl and Ida Rickert.

Casketbearers were Lloyd Beseman, Lawrence Decker, John Sutcliffe, Alfred Koester and Loren Mielke.
