Dorothy M. Waller
Dorothy M. Waller, age 76, a resident of Baxter, MN, died November 27, 1998, at Bethany Good Samaritan Village in Brainerd.

Funeral services were held November 30 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Hillman, MN, with Pastor Lynn Broughton officiating. Burial was to be at a later date in Lakeview Community Cemetery.

Dorothy was born January 2, 1922, in St. Paul to Melvin Byron and Elvina (Graf) Carlson. A resident of Baxter for the past three years, she had also lived at Peavey Lake near Hillman, Sleepy Eye, MN, and Dows, IA. She married L. Clair Waller in St. Paul on September 29, 1940. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Hillman, and Bethany Auxiliary.

Survivors include her husband L. Clair Waller; two sons, Melvin A. and his wife Patricia Waller of Maple Grove, MN, and Larry C. and his wife Marilyn Waller of Moundsview, MN; a daughter, Carmen and her husband Leon Moll of Lino Lakes, MN; a sister, Beverly Johnson of Brainerd; nine grandchildren, Christopher, Br. Shawn, Teresa, Ryan, Britt, Brady, Leigh Ann, Jesse and Cory; and a great-grandson, Michael.

Loretta Ringwelski
Loretta Mae Ringwelski, age 87, a resident of Little Falls, MN, died November 23, 1998, at St. Otto’s Care Center in Little Falls.

Funeral services were held at St. Otto’s Care Center Chapel November 27 with Rev. Mel Lundeen officiating. Burial was in Oakland Cemetery in Little Falls.

Loretta was born October 25, 1911, in Tingley, IA, to the late Harry and Martha (Petry) Austin. She lived with her family in Tingley until the age of four at which time her family moved to the Brainerd, MN, area. The family moved to Little Falls in 1923 where she continued her schooling. After her schooling Loretta began working as a nanny in the Little Falls area for 15 years. She then worked for Munsingwear as a seamstress for a couple of years. Loretta then became a full-time homemaker, taking care of her children. She retired in 1970. Loretta enjoyed sewing, quilting, puzzles and reading. She adored her children and grandchildren.

Survivors include her daughters, Frances Fuller of Little Falls and Judith Cooley of Brainerd; five grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Oscar, William, Allison and Harry Austin; sisters, Luella Cooley and Hazel Austin and granddaughter, Janelle Cooley.

Pallbearers were Doug Cooley, Gary Cooley, David Ringwelski, Larry Mickles, Joel Mickles and Maynard Grangruth.

Murriel Habas
Murriel N. Habas, age 85, a resident of Little Falls, MN, died August 26, 1998, at St. Gabriel’s Hospital.

Funeral services were held August 29 at the Shelley Funeral Chapel in Little Falls, MN, with the Rev. Melvin Lundeen officiating. Interment was in Oakland Cemetery in Little Falls.

Murriel Naomi Habas was born on February 9, 1913, in Detroit Lakes, MN, to the late Carlos and Cora (Bates) Webster. She grew up in the Detroit Lakes area where she attended school through high school. After high school, she moved to Randall, MN, to help care for her sister’s children. She worked for Dr. Holtz in Little Falls from 1947-1952 as a housekeeper and then worked for Munsingwear for a short time. She was united in marriage to Joseph Habas on June 14, 1952, at First Baptist Church in Little Falls. Following their marriage, the couple lived with Joseph’s parents in Holdingford, MN, before moving to a farm in Swan River Township where they farmed. Joseph died on February 9, 1983, and Murriel remained on the farm until 1986 when she moved to Little Falls. She was a member of Grace Covenant Church in Little Falls, was active as a 4-H club leader, taught Sunday School and was a member of the Variety Garden Club. She enjoyed reading and especially her two granddaughters.

Survivors include her son, David Habas and wife Cindi of Little Falls and granddaughters, Jasmyne and Whitney Habas of Little Falls.

Murrial was preceded in death by her parents; husband; infant daughter; three brothers and six sisters.

John Karpinski
John Karpinski, age 96, a resident of Flensburg, MN, died August 26, 1998, at his residence.

Mass of Christian Burial was August 31 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Flensburg with Father Tony Kroll officiating. Burial was at the parish cemetery.

John was born October 8, 1901, in Flensburg to Paul and Suzanna (Drosky) Karpinski. He was united in marriage to Ann Super on November 12, 1928. Ann passed away on January 18, 1985. John farmed his entire lifetime in Flensburg. He was well-known for his supply of wood. John was a member of the Knights of Columbus and Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Survivors include his son, Fred Karpinski and wife Ethel of Flensburg; daughters, Mary Ann Smith and husband John of DeKalb, IL, and Georgina Peschel and husband Ronald of St. Paul, MN; sisters, Lucille Pacquin of Lamberton, MN, Ann Nickoforo of Minneapolis, MN and Adeline Stroschein of Minneapolis; 18 grandchildren and five step-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Ann in 1985, four brothers and one sister.

Casektbearers were Daniel Karpinski, James Karpinski, Arvin Karpinski, John Peschel, Rodney Smith and Merlin Smith.

Charles H. Timm
Charles Henry Timm, age 77, formerly of Brooklyn Center, MN, and recently a resident of St. Otto’s Care Center in Little Falls, MN, died August 27, 1998, at the nursing home.
Funeral services were held August 31 at the Evans-Norby Funeral Home in Brooklyn Center, with the Rev. Gordon Buhrer officiating. Interment was at Crystal Lake Cemetery, Crystal, MN.

Charles was born July 2, 1921, in Little Falls, son of John H. and Jeanette (Schubert) Timm. In his youth he farmed with his father north of Little Falls. Later he was employed as an electrician in Minneapolis. He married Lorraine Olson June 14, 1947, in Little Falls and she preceded him in death September 30, 1986.

Survivors include his sister, Irene Dengel of Little Falls.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents and sister, Dorothy.

Alma Hoffman
Alma Hoffman, age 87, a resident of Sauk Rapids, MN, died at the Good Shepherd Home August 30, 1998.

Funeral services were September 2 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sauk Rapids with Rev. Eugene Doyle officiating. Burial was in the Assumption Cemetery in St. Cloud, MN.

Alma E. Hoffman was born in Rice, MN to Frank J. and Anna (Schreder) Popp on April 17, 1911. She married Michael J. Hoffman on October 17, 1932, in Immaculate Conception Church in Rice. The couple lived in rural Foley until 1964, when they moved to St. Cloud, and later moving to Sauk Rapids in 1981. She worked as a cook for the Good Shepherd Lutheran Home, St. Cloud State University, and Country Kitchen. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sauk Rapids and was a member of the Christian Mothers (St. Monica’s Society.)

Survivors include children and spouses, Richard and Dorothy Hoffman of Minot, ND, Leonard and Juanita Hoffman of Minnea-polis, MN, Gordan Hoffman of St. Cloud, Mary and Edwin Timmers of St. Cloud and Joe Hoffman of St. Cloud; 32 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, one step-grandchild, and one step-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Michael on May 30, 1986; son, Michael on November 10, 1996; brothers and sisters, Lena Popp, Tillie Britz, Bill Popp, Rose Thene, Lawrence Popp, Clara Jurek, Katherine Kowitz, Arnold Popp, Josephine Mueller and two great-granddaughters.

Fred ‘Fritz’ Meyer
Fred “Fritz” Meyer, age 67, a resident of Pierz, MN, died August 26, 1998, at St. Cloud Hospital in St. Cloud, MN.

Mass of Christian Burial was August 29 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Pierz with Father Ken Brenny officiating. Burial was in St. Joseph’s parish cemetery. Military rites were by Pierz American Legion Post 341.

Fred was born April 4, 1931, in Pierz Township to Nicholas and Anna (Bares) Meyer. He married Margaret Gasperlin on August 28, 1956, in Albany, MN. He was in the United States Army, member of Pierz American Legion Post 341, member of the Pierz Fire Department for 24 years until he retired in 1981, worked as a meat cutter at Meyer’s Meat Market, and later purchased his own semi truck and did trucking until he retired in 1996.

Survivors include his wife Margaret Meyer of Pierz; sons, Jeff Meyer and wife Bonnie of Princeton, MN, Larry Meyer and wife Chris of North Glenn, CO, Danny Meyer and wife Sandy of Brennyville, MN; daughters, Joy Leidenfrost and husband Bill of Pierz, and Lisa Blondell and husband Pat of Sartell, MN; brothers, Harold Meyer and Richard Meyer, both of Pierz; sisters, Dorothy Thielen of Pierz, Geraldine Braun of Little Falls, and Jeanette Schaefer of Pierz; and 12 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Nicholas and Anna; and sons, Scott and Nick.

Casketbearers were Chuck Meyer, Tom Meyer, Clif Meyer, Mark Meyer, Mike Schaefer and John Thielen. Honorary casketbearers were the Pierz Fire Department and members of Pierz American Legion Post 341.

Hubert R. Heroux
Hubert R. “Bum” Heroux, age 75, a resident of Little Falls, MN, died August 27, 1998, at St. Otto’s Care Center in Little Falls.

Funeral services were held August 31 at the Shelley Funeral Chapel in Little Falls. Interment was in the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery at Camp Ripley with military rites conducted by Little Falls American Legion Post 46.

Hubert R. Heroux was born on December 30, 1922, in Little Falls, Morrison County, MN, to the late Michael and Clara (Leduc) Heroux. He grew up in Little Falls where he attended school graduating with the Class of 1940. He continued his education for two years at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, MN. From February 1942 to October 1942, he worked for Foley Brothers Construction Company in Colstrip, MT. He then entered the U.S. Navy on November 21, 1942, and was honorably discharged on April 3, 1946. After the service, Hubert worked for a year on the Garrison Dam project in the Dakotas. He then went to work at Weyerhauser Lumber Company in St. Paul, MN, the Grain Exchange in Minneapolis and then Green Giant Company from which he retired. Hubert continued living in Minneapolis following his retirement until moving to Little Falls in 1990. He became a resident of St. Otto’s Care Center in 1994 where he resided up to the time of his death.

Survivors include his brothers, Art Heroux and wife Dodie of Little Falls and Archie Heroux of Little Falls; sister, Mary Sargent and husband Donald of Brooklyn Park, MN; nephew, Gerald Kieley as well as many other nieces and nephews.

Hubert was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and three sisters.

Pallbearers were George, Bob and Jim Heroux, Michel Kieley, Bob ODette and Joe Gessel.
