Mrs. Bernice Vnuk
Mrs. Bernice V. Vnuk, age 74, a resident of Little Falls, MN, died September 11, 1998, at St. Otto’s Care Center in Little Falls.

Funeral services were held September 14 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Little Falls with Rev. Leroy Kremer officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery.

Bernice V. Vnuk was born January 6, 1924, in International Falls, MN, to the late Martin and Martha (Balaski) Ginter. She grew up in, and graduated from the high school in International Falls, MN. Bernice was united in marriage to Leonard T. Vnuk on November 25, 1947, in St. Thomas Catholic Church in International Falls. The couple lived in International Falls for nine years. They moved to Little Falls in 1955 and have resided there since. Bernice enjoyed camping, fishing, reading, baking and cooking. She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Little Falls.

Survivors include her husband, Leonard T. Vnuk; son, Leonard Vnuk, Jr., and wife Patricia of Little Falls; daughter, Judy Newman and husband Bob of Little Falls; brother, Gerald Ginter of International Falls; sisters, Eleanor Murray of Bemidji, MN, Nettie Harris of Bend, OR and Florence Beaulieu of Portland, OR; grandchildren, Chris Vnuk, Terri Krych, Melanie Vnuk and Michelle Newman.

Bernice was preceded in death her parents; brother, Manville ‘Babe’ Ginter and a grandson, Mark Vnuk.

Pallbearers were Chris, Donald and Gene Vnuk, Sean Krych, LeRoy Theischafer and Jim Baertsch.

Viola Eikmeier
Viola Eikmeier, age 75, a resident of Foley, MN, died September 11, 1998, at the Foley Nursing Center, Foley.

Funeral services were September 15, 1998, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Foley. The Rev. Alfred Heltemes officiated. Burial was in the parish cemetery.

Viola Eikmeier was born February 17, 1923, in St. Cloud, MN, to Jacob and Amelia (Habiger) Feichtinger. She married Edward Eikmeier June 22, 1944 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, St. Cloud, MN. She had worked at Fandel’s Department Store, Fabritec and 13 years for Tempo. She has also baked and decorated cakes for 35 years. She was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church and Foley Christian Mothers.

Survivors include her husband Edward of Foley; sons David and wife Mary Ann of Royalton, MN, Tom and wife Jennifer of Folson, CA; daughter-in-law, Marie Eikmeier of Anchorage AK; sister, Delores Schumer, St. Cloud; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Richard, September 30, 1980; and a brother, Alfred Feichtinger.

Pallbearers were Jerry Goenner, Donald Eikmeier, Kenneth Eikmeier, Eugene Rudolph, Peter Fiedler and Rich Smelter.

Alice Plowman
Alice Plowman, age 91, a resident of Little Falls, MN, died September 12, 1998, at the Lutheran Care Center in Little Falls.

Memorial services were held privately.

Alice (DeYoung) Plowman was born October 25, 1906, in Clough Township, Morrison County, to the late Erick and Lisa (Martinson) Alm. She was the youngest of eight children.

Survivors include a son, Harlan Clinkenbeard and wife Margie of Waukesha, WI; daughter, Alice Jean Lawrence of Little Falls; nine grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, four brothers, three sisters and one grandson.

Ann Bonik
Ann M. Bonik, age 92, a resident of Little Falls, MN, died September 14, 1998, at St. Otto’s Care Center in Little Falls.

Funeral services were held September 17 at St. Otto’s Care Center Chapel in Little Falls with Rev. Anthony Kroll officiating. Burial was in Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery.

Ann was born July 17, 1906, in Royalton, MN, to the late Joseph and Agatha (Schietza) Sobania. She grew up and attended school in Royalton. Ann was united in marriage to Frank X. Bonik on June 27, 1933, in Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Royalton. The couple lived and farmed in Pike Creek Township, Morrison County, until retiring to Little Falls in 1984. Ann cooked at the President’s Cafe in Little Falls and at St. Gabriel’s Hospital. She was also a housekeeper for many residents of Little Falls. Ann enjoyed crocheting, knitting, gardening and baking. She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Little Falls.

Survivors include daughters, Mary Ann Athman of Bloomington, MN, Rose Stowell and husband Bob of Burnsville, MN, and Lorraine Bonik of Moorhead, MN; sisters, Rose Hudek of Royalton and Frances Spedivich of Little Falls; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank on March 19, 1988; two infant sons, Louis and Albert Bonik; four brothers, Peter, Tony, Frank and William Sobania and a sister, Mary Polonsky.

Pallbearers were Ron Stowell, Jeff Manske, Lee Morrison, Tim Fitch, Chris Fitch and Cindy Fitch.

Shawn Michael Grittner
Shawn Michael Grittner, age 21, a resident of Pierz, MN, died September 17, 1998 as a result of a car accident near Pierz.
Mass of Christian Burial held September 21 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Buckman with Father Ken Brenny officiating and Father Ron Dockendorf concelebrating. Shawn will be buried in the St. Michael’s Parish Cemetery.

Visitation 4-9 p.m. Sunday, September 20 at the Brenny Funeral Home in Pierz. Christian Mothers at 7 p.m., Parish Prayers at 8 p.m., and Knights of Columbus at 8:30 p.m. Visitation will also be from 8-10 a.m. on Monday, September 21 at the Brenny Funeral Home in Pierz.

Shawn was born on November 17, 1976, to Ronald and Karen (Loidolt) Grittner in St. Cloud, MN. He went to grade school at St. Michael’s in Buckman. Shawn was a mass server and a member of St. Michael’s Church in Buckman. He attended high school at Pierz Pioneer High School where he graduated in 1995, and then attended St. Cloud Technical College for two years. Shawn worked for Preimesberger Lumber as an architectural draftsman. He belonged to the Central Minnesota Railroad Club and was a member of the Central Minnesota Builders Association.

Survivors include his parents, Ronald and Karen Grittner of Buckman, MN and his sister, Melissa, at home; grandparents Ray and Bernadine Loidolt of Pierz, and Regina Grittner of Royalton, MN.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Leo Grittner.

Casketbearers: Aaron Virnig, Preston Fox, Jason Brezinka, Jesse Brezinka, Ryan Butkowski and Corey Butkowski.

Honorary casketbearers: the members of the Minnesota Central Railroad Club.

Marilyn Slater
Marilyn Theresa Slater died September 21, 1998, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Brainerd, MN, at the age of 72.
Funeral services were held September 26 at the Peterson-Johnson Funeral Home in Onamia, MN, with Father William McNiff officiating. Interment followed at the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Wahkon, MN.

Marilyn was born on March 20, 1926, in Brainerd, to Joseph and Mary (Keminski) Smude. She grew up and attended school in Onamia. She was united in marriage to Bob Slater in January of 1943 at the Holy Cross Catholic Church in Onamia. She worked as a nurses’ aide at the Onamia Nursing Home for 18 years. She enjoyed fishing, gardening, and taking care of her flowers.

Survivors include her children, Bonnie Holtz and husband Dave of East Bethel, MN, Charlotte Slater of Little Falls, Michael and wife Barb of Coon Rapids, MN, Randy Slater of Wahkon, Cindy Roden and husband Allen of Monticello, MN and Rebecca Jenkins of Onamia; 12 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; sisters, Marlys Olson and Margie Boser of Onamia; and brother, Jerome Smude of Onamia. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Bob, son Billy, sister Marion and brother Jimmy.

David Poster
David John Poster, age 67, a resident of Buckman, MN, died September 19, 1998, at the St. Cloud Hospital in St. Cloud, MN.
Mass of Christian burial was held September 22 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Buckman with Rev. Ron Dockendorf officiating. Burial was in St. Michael’s parish cemetery.

David was born April 29, 1931, in Buckman Township, Morrison County, MN, to the late Louis and Margaret (Stumpf) Poster. He grew up in Buckman Township and attended country school. He graduated from Little Falls High School in 1949. After high school he farmed with his father. David was united in marriage to Maxine M. Hoheisel on June 14, 1955, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Pierz, MN. Since their marriage, the couple has farmed and resided in Buckman Township. David played in the Jolly Vagabond Band as a drummer for many years and enjoyed playing cards. He was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church and St. Michael’s Society in Buckman.

Survivors include his wife, Maxine; sons, Greg Poster and wife Donna of Royalton, MN, and Russ Poster and wife Gloria of Buckman; daughters, Debbie Poster of Buckman, Diane Lardy and husband Mark of Richmond, MN, and Denise Loidolt and husband Reid of Golden Valley, MN; brothers, Lawrence Poster and wife Leora of Pierz, James Poster and wife Phyllis of Royalton and Daniel Poster of Little Falls, MN, and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter, Morgan Lardy and brother Clarence Poster.

Honorary pallbearers were Donald Kelzenberg, Bob Seppelt, Reiny Theis, Ronnie Przybilla, Marvin Przybilla and Ambrose Janski.

Pallbearers were John, Steve, Mike, Gordie, Jerry and Kevin Poster.
