Iva Lambert

Iva Lambert, age 89, a resident of the Hillman, MN area died September 26, 1997 at her home.

Mass of Christian burial was held September 30, at St. Rita’s Catholic Church in Hillman, with Father Nathan Packard officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery.

Iva was born December 26, 1907 in Gilman, IA to the late William and Gertrude (Green) Hennessey. After graduating from Iowa State Teachers College, she taught country school in Mitchell County, IA, for four years. She was united in marriage with Kenneth Lambert on February 14, 1936 in Osage, IA. The couple began farming near Osage, with two horses, five cows, and twenty chickens. They moved to Hillman in 1950 and Iva was a homemaker until she began teaching again in 1966. She taught in Morrison County and in Waite Park until 1973. Iva enjoyed visiting, knitting, reading, and enjoyed the beauty of flowers and birds at the feeders. She wrote many children’s books. She was a life member of Christian Mothers, St. Rita’s Church in Hillman. Iva was also a member of the Senior Citizens Club in Hillman and was the first president of the Hillman Adult Leisure Club.

Survivors include her husband, Kenneth of Hillman; a son, William and wife Nancy of Blaine, MN; daughters, Rosemary Mischke and husband Sylvester of Buckman, MN, Gertrude Lambert of Onamia, MN, Margaret Nicholas and husband William of Hastings, MN, Virginia ‘Ginny’ Tembruell and husband Ardell of Freedhem, MN, and Rita Boyce and husband Thomas of Osage, MN; a sister, Helen Beck of Lime Springs, IA; 21 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Richard in infancy; two sisters, Mabel and Katherine; and a brother, Frank.

Honorary casketbearers were Catherine Meyer, Rita Brown, Ranyl Moran, Mary Lou Hoheisel, Eleanor Skochenski and Sally Meyer.

Casketbearers were Tom Mischke, James Boyce, Ardell Tembruell, Jr., Brian Lambert, Gary Nicholas and Scott Mischke.

Patricia S. Gozola

Patricia S. Gozola, age 76, a resident of St. Otto’s Care Center, formerly of Crystal, died September 26, 1997.

A funeral mass was held September 30 at The Church of St. Raphael, Crystal with burial at St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Maple Grove, MN.

Pat was born May 12, 1921 in Little Falls, MN, to parents A.I. Stone and Irene (Monahan) Stone. She was a secretary and Jr. Volunteer director for St. Therese Nursing Home in New Hope, MN. She was past president of the St. Therese Home Auxiliary, North Memorial Medical Center Auxiliary and the past president of HCAM (Medical Care Aux of MN.) She was also past president of the Jr. Catholic League. She was preceded in death by husband John Gozola in 1993.

Survivors include sister, Jerry Nagel of Little Falls, MN; nephews John Nagel and wife Bonnie of Little Falls, Robert Nagel of Crystal and wife Kelly of Little Falls; one niece, Mary Dukowitz of Brainerd, MN and grand nieces and grand nephews.

Memorials are preferred to St. Theresa Home, 8000 Bass Lake Rd., New Hope or St. Otto’s Care Center of Little Falls, MN.

Joseph F. Bates

Joseph F. Bates, age 61, a resident of Sobieski, MN died September 24, 1997 at St. Gabriel’s Hospital, Little Falls, MN.

Funeral services were October 4 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Watkins, MN with Rev. Richard Gross and Deacon Ken Bates officiating. Burial was in the St. Anthony’s Parish Cemetery in Watkins.

Joseph Bates was born October 7, 1935 in Watkins to Norbert and Magdeline (Korte) Bates.

Survivors include her mother, Magdeline Bates, Watkins; daughters and sons, Dena Suska and Randy Bates, Willpenit, WA; Margie Wynne, Minneapolis, MN; Ray, James and Joey Bates, Little Falls; sisters and brothers, Dolores Faber and Marilyn Kuechle, Watkins; Florence Pope, McLean, VA; Irene Sullivan, Melrose, MN; Beatrice Clark, Edina, MN; Kenneth Bates, Sauk Rapids, MN; Gordon Bates, Green Isle, MN; Ronald Bates, Fairbanks, AK and seven grandchildren. He also leaves behind friend and companion, Fern Post.

He was preceded in death by his father, brother, Robert, and granddaughter, Alicia.

John L. Branger

John L. Branger, age 85, passed away at his home on October 3, 1997.

John was born in Arnhem, Holland (the Netherlands) on September 9, 1912. As a young boy he migrated to a Canadian logging area with his parents and later moved on to the St. Anthony area of Minneapolis, MN. John married Doris Birkenmeier on January 13, 1945. He was a machinist for 35 years with General Dairy Equipment Company until his retirement in 1974. In 1991, John and Doris moved to Lake Shamineau, Motley.

Survivors include his wife, Doris; daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Denny Peterson; brothers and spouses, Bob and Betty, Charles and Eileen, Carl and Ruth; many nieces, nephews and friends.

Lester R. Krull

Lester R. Krull, age 84, died October 12, 1997, at the Forest Lake District Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services were held October 15 at the Lakeview Community Church in Hillman, MN with Rev. David Gouldin officiating. Interment was in the Lakeview Community Church Cemetery.

Lester R. Krull was born on February 12, 1913, to Richard and Ethel (Jackson) Krull in Wabasha, MN. He attended school in Wabasha and, at the age of 14, moved to Minneapolis, MN, where he attended Columbia Heights Schools. He was united in marriage to June V. Maxson on June 9, 1937, in Columbia Heights, MN. The couple resided in Winona, MN for a few years and then resided in Columbia Heights until retirement. Lester worked as a tool and die setter for 37 years for General Metalware. He also worked as a carpenter. In 1974 they moved to the Platte Lake area near Hillman. Lester enjoyed fishing and was a lapidary.

Survivors include his daughter, Lila and husband, Ronald, two sons, Stephen and friend Kathy, and Kelly and wife Judy, six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, June, one son, Douglas and a sister, Lila.

The casketbearers were Stephen, Kelly and Dennis Krull, Ron, Brett and Sarah Cameron.

Jeanne Moeglein

Jeanne Elizabeth Moeglein, 81-year-old resident of Little Falls, MN, died October 9, 1997, at St. Otto’s Care Center in Little Falls.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held October 13 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Little Falls with the Rev. Nick Landsberger officiating. Burial was in the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery north of Little Falls.

Jeanne E. Moeglein was born December 10, 1915, in Peoria, IL, to the late Thomas and Margaret (Nugent) Hennessey. Jeanne lived in Peoria until the age of three years at which time her family moved to Minneapolis, MN. She attended school at Washburn High School in Minneapolis, graduating from the class of 1933. After high school she worked in several department stores in the Minneapolis area. During WWII she moved to Michigan where her parents lived. She met and later was united in marriage on August 18, 1945, to Robert L. Moeglein at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Little Falls. After their marriage the couple continued to live in Little Falls where Col. Robert Moeglein served as Camp Commander at Camp Ripley. Col. Robert Moeglein died October 3, 1994. Jeanne continued to reside in Little Falls until her death. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Little Falls. Survivors include her nieces and nephews and great-nieces and -nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and sisters, Lorraine Hambleton, Kaythryn Ruplin, Rose Giesen, Mary Anderson and Frances Nelson.

Casketbearers were Leighton and Phillip Quinn, William Moeglein and Jack Maloney, Vick Anderson and Tom Ruplin

Philip M. McGonagle

Philip M. McGonagle, age 71, a resident of Red Wing, MN, died October 12, 1997, at St. John’s Regional Health Center in Red Wing. Memorial services were October 15 at First Lutheran Church in Red Wing with Pastor Paul Knutson officiating.

Philip was born on June 15, 1926, in Seattle, WA, the son of Ralph and Hallie (Carnes) McGonagle. He graduated from Seattle Public Schools and then served in the US Navy during World War II. During that time he served in the Pacific Theatre and in five major battles. He then attended University of Washington where he was a member of Alpha Sigma Phi and then graduated in 1952 from St. Cloud State University. For one year he taught in Ashley, ND. On June 15, 1956, he married Pat LaFond in Little Falls. From May of 1953 until February 1959 he was a social worker for Morrison County Welfare and then became director of the Pope County Welfare Department. On May 1, 1961, he became director of the Goodhue County Welfare Department until his retirement on June 1, 1988. He was a member of the American Legion in Red Wing, Barnstormers R.C. Club and the Upper Hiawatha Valley Pilots Association. He is a past member of the Civil Air Patrol, Coast Guard Auxiliary, Elks, Kiwanis, Jaycees and Red Wing Yacht Club. He enjoyed golf where he was a member of Mississippi National and flying. His professional affiliations have been American Public Welfare Association, Minnesota Social Services Association, Minnesota Association of Social Service Administrators. He has served on the Board of Directors of Interstate Rehabilitation Center, South-eastern Minnesota Health Planning Council and Southeastern Minne-sota Health Systems Agency.

Survivors include his wife, Pat; two daughters, Kelly (Steve) Flanders of Red Wing and Kay (James) Miller of Faribault; three grandchildren, Lia Miller and Taylor and Hallie Flanders; and one brother, Kenneth (Cele) of Cushing, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Honorary pallbearers were Sam Drodofsky, Leland Goyer, Burton Huneke, Donald Jansen, Donald Johnson, George McDougall, Al Nelson, George Reinhart, Robert Seifert and Lloyd Wright.

Anne S. Meyer

Anne S. Meyer, age 80, a resident of St. Cloud, MN, formerly of Hopkins, MN, died October 9, 1997, at the St. Cloud Hospital.

Funeral services were held at Holy Family Catholic Church, Hillman, MN with Rev. Vincent Ott, O.M.I., officiating. Burial was in the Holy Family Parish Cemetery.

Anne Meyer was born in Crosby, MN on February 6, 1917, to George and Catherine (Smolcic) Stimac. She married Matthias C. Meyer on June 19, 1939, in St. Joseph’s Church in Crosby. She was a member of St. Mary’s Cathedral and Daughters of Isabella. Anne worked at the Sears Roebuck Store in Minneapolis, MN, and raised her family in Hopkins. Upon her husband’s retirement, they moved to Hillman where they lived until his death in 1987. Anne then moved to St. Cloud where she lived until her death.

Survivors include daughter, Betty Malsed of Virginia, MN; son, James Meyer of St. Cloud; daughter, MaryAnne Cutter of Hartselle, AL; brothers, Joe Stimac of Salem, OR; John Stimac of Bethesda, MD; and Matt Stimach of Fort Lauderdale, FL; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren

She was preceded in death by her father, George Stimac; mother, Catherine Smolcic; husband, Matthias C. Meyer; sister, Kate Stimac Tidd; and brothers, Frank Stimac and George Stimac.
